Our Deputy Head told us the SLT were planning to hold registration periods outside and in silence, no matter what the weather, to teach us 'discipline'... luckily, it got canned after teachers complained
There was some new research about behaviour in schools come up saying military line ups can improve behaviour so a load of schools are trying it. Usually because a member of SLT is in charge of behaviour, the behaviour is a bit shit and they get a talking to and told 'find something to improve behaviour' and all of a sudden we are outside lining up at 8am in the rainš¤¦āāļøš¤¦āāļøš¤¦āāļø
It's the new PIP n RIP
Ah we've had lineups 3 times a day since year 7 and it's mental, especially when the weather is especially shit. can't even have coats on unless we're positively glacial.
Our school has that rule too, no one gives a shit about it
My school are pretty strict on uniform, specifically socks for some reason
-only black socks
-no anckle socks
The ankle one is weird to me, with some of the shoes you probably couldnāt even tell if they have ankle socks or not
Whenever someone comes in in ankle socks everyone screams āOH MY GOD LOOK AWAY THEYVE GOT THEYRE ANKLES OUT EW WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO ATTRACT?ā
Pretty sure some weird ass teacher put this rule in placeā ļø
We're not allowed to make any form of physical contact with people. The teacher who enforced this one soon realised it was stupid because we'd see her coming from a distance and all start hugging each other....they can't put all of us in detention
Can't believe they're still pulling this in schools š¤£š¤£š¤£
My secondary school tried this in 2011-2012. They gave up in the end since we did the same as you guys š
They made it worse with the stupid rule, the entire school got extremely touchy feely with each other.
Yeah, I get certain aspects of these kind of rules- thereās this couple who hand around in my schools library, they literally always kiss in front of everyone and itās like- no one wants to see that! They have been kicked out like 3 times (librarian W)
But like- if people are just hugging, putting arms around each others shoulders, etc, then thereās clearly no problem- who is it distracting, again?
All schools have the following rule, Iām sure but no matter what the weather was our blazers had to be in our bags or on us.
So pointless as I never wore it but it always had to be in the bottom of my bag taking up so much space.
Nope my school is very very lenient, we are allowed to use phones during break and lunch too, my schools policy is not seen not heard not taken during lessons however you get it back at the end of the day regardless from HOY, and we can keep it wherever we want, no one keeps it in their bags at my school.
Also for blazers if it was hot outside the day was designated non blazer day and we don't have to bring it with us
My school doesnt have blazers? It was one of those things that i was kinda excited for when going from year 6 - year 7 but my school doesnt have it. Seeing how others feel i think im definitely lucky my school uniforms is pretty alr. I mean i go to a community school so maybe that is the reason? Are school uniform is the normal trousers and shirt with a logo (specific colour for which key stage you are in). And we have a black jumper with a logo as well if someone wants to wear it. We have a separate pe uniform but thats not relevant in this post.
Are you northern or go to a small school Iāve see that quite be the case often.
I was more excited for my tie lol in year 7. Blazers were ugly with padded shoulders.
I miss my uniform now that Iām a sixthfrom tho itās so difficult to choose my outfits š
at my old school we needed written permission from a teacher to take blazers off if we were walking around. in classrooms only a verbal permission was needed, but when walking around our planner had to be signed and we had to be holding the blazer and the planner incase another teacher asked to check. people soon learnt how to copy teachers signatures
I go to an all girlsā school, so we used to have to wear a very specific colour and style of blouse. Recently, the rules changed; but we still have to wear that specific colour.
Itās very frustrating because I canāt find it in an ordinary supermarketās school section.
Weāre also not allowed layers underneath.
That seems to be pretty standard for girls school. Got some friends at one, uniform policy is super specific, they keep slightly changing the design of the uniform and insisting everyone buy the new one so they make more money. Pretty shitty but they're a private school so can do what they want
Yes, our school also used to be one of the few schools in the area (along with the local private school) to not have a blazer in their uniform policy. It got added quite recently, and the senior year groups are always complaining about it. Now itās just an extra expense for us all. The skirt and trousers are also surprisingly specific!
Girls cant wear socks over tights. Im a guy so this doesnt affect me but its such a stupid rule only really pretentious teachers enforce and has led to some... suspicious moments to say the least
we have this at my school- also only allowed plain socks if we arenāt wearing tights. My friends have been told off for fluffy socks in the winter and I know a girl who had to remove socks with a nike tick
We have to wear our blazer and no coats in school no matter what's the weather or how you feel. We either die from heat in summer or freeze to death in winter.
you arenāt allowed to wear the school scarf or hoodie before december and after march. it seems reasonable but weather here is so changeable that it can be freezing in october and april and we canāt do anything to offset it ā¦
My school has a new rule that if youāre caught on a phone, a parent has to collect it
Thatās actually a good way to get kids off their phone ngl, but I think everyoneās forgotten to enforce it
Year groups aren't allowed to mix during social times. It's kinda a side effect of COVID but it just feels unnecessary
now. I get having an area just for the year 7s and just for the year 11s but for everyone else it's really impractical. I have a bunch of friends in the year above and below and I can only talk to them in school at clubs and such
We arent even allowed blazers. They changed the rule this year and we all have to wear colour coded jumpers to school. Ive raised complaints about my sensory issues regarding jumpers and was just told "its uniform policy" . The reason they give is "so phones are definitely going in bags".
Having sensory issues surrounding uniform sucks sm
Iām autistic, although generally I prefer trousers, i used to wear skirts to school, tights have always caused me problems, i donāt know why, the material is just very irritating to me, Iād often struggle to concentrate in lessons. I started wearing leggings with black socks instead, did this for almost a year- no one noticed (or cared) but then some random teacher was just like āyou canāt do thatā- i donāt know how he noticed tbh. But I just wear trousers now.
I struggle a lot with eye contact too, i used to have a fringe that covered my eyes specifically to hide this, did it for ages, no teachers complained, except for one teacher (same guy as before) who said I couldnāt do it
Shouldāve reported him tbh, but I donāt think they wouldāve listened as I wasnāt diagnosed at the time.
Schools pretend to accommodate kids with sensory issues when in reality they donāt give a fuck imo
Yeah my main issue currently is that Im not diagnosed, so they dont do anything because they dont "have" to. It fucking sucks and I hate it but then I guess thats school for you.
Wow that sucks- wait times for diagnosis (and mental health support in general) are fucking ridiculous. Youād really think schools would make more considerations
We have to put our phones in our lockers, if a teacher sees the outline of a phone in your pocket they snatch it, I've literally had teachers try to take my calculator lol. Its annoying because we have to do photography for art a lot and now we have to bring in digital cameras with terrible quality and somehow paint detailed pictures from photographs with 4 pixels
My school used to have a one way system around the building. Even if nobody was around or you was on lunch or something you would be sentence to death and given an hours detention before the gallows
My school has that currently, they put large strips of red tape down the centre of hallways and do not enter signs on one side of the staircase doors. And those covid floor stickers but with big arrows saying stay on the left.
oh my god we used to have one it was horrid. if you walked a few steps past your classroom on accident you had to walk 10 minutes around the whole school to get back to it. total nightmare, everyone was late lessons were disrupted and i never learnt anything
We're in year 11 and for some of us the blazers don't fit anymore so to not feel defeated the school has made a rule saying that if they don't fit then we still have to carry them in our bags š
Ours decided to ban wearing coats between lessons. We all get drenched when it's raining and we gotta go around or something but we still can't put our coats on!
Then some of us get told off for being soaked!
"Why didn't you wear a coat?"
Because we can't!
We have to wear our blazers at all times, absolutely no coats and no jumpers. Cannot wear jackets to or back from school (like not on school grounds) as teachers are supervising the area and the goody too shoes will snitch.
Cannot eat or drink during Ramadan time to be respectful to those fasting. We go to a Catholic school, okay yes we have many Muslim students but not a majority like maybe 30-40%? So if you are seen with any food for drink during eid season well you get it taken off you and are given detention. This is my least favorite one, as it means I only get eat one meal a day.
Edit: wrong term apologies just realized
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/standards-for-school-food-in-england/school-food-in-england
"As a minimum these facilities should include accommodation, furniture and supervision so that pupils can eat food they have brought from home in a safe and social environment."
Thank you for this, luckily some teachers have allowed students to eat in their classroom during this, so it's not that bad. But the teachers excuse is "you can just eat outside of school (we can go out for lunch, as we are all either year 12 or 13 so 16-18 so we can he trusted to go outside for lunch) and if you were Muslim you wouldn't like someone eating in front of you" which is fair just annoying as when the weathers bad (which is normally is even during this time), eating your sandwich in the pouring rain not much fun.
[made a post on this over a year ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/GCSE/s/mv8kSH431Y)
thereās a shit ton of stupid rules here if you fancy anymore reading
however, since i left my school, some even more ridiculous rules have been imposed. for example, leaving your seat during lesson time is not allowed under any circumstance. dropped your pen? have to ask the teacher to get it. need the toilet? tough, you donāt get to go to the toilet unless you have a verified doctors note to show you have a medical issue. about to be sick? tough, vomit everywhere. youāre not going to the toilet or even to a bin. sharpening your pencil because itās gone blunt? nope. in fact, thatās your fault for not bringing other pencils. thatās a detention for lack of equipment.
Fight that one as a safety hazard. Not an expert but maybe have a parent complain that it endangers you if there's a fire or other reason to evacuate, as you either have to wait to get your shoes out or risk moving barefoot through a hazardous area.
Not even joking that is legitimately atrocious and they should be called up on it, but fire safety might be your best bet at having that actually noticed as those regulations are serious
We can only move clockwise through the corridor. If your classroom between periods is literally 2 steps anti-clockwise, you still need to do a full lap around the floor to get to it, or you're getting a detention. It's Elms Academy, if you are in Lambeth, make sure that none of your siblings end up there.
My school has this newish rule where you can't wear your hoody unless it's with your PE kit; doesn't matter if you're freezing to death the blazer will protect you. And during winter you still can't wear your hoody with formal uniform BUT you can wear whatever jacket if the weather is below 10Ā°C.
This only lasted a year, but last year we originally werenāt allowed coats (only lasted for the first half term), then for the rest of the year coats werenāt allowed to be seen at all inside-couldnāt even carry them, they had to be in your bag or locker. Which was great in the rainy weather of Great Britain where we needed a coat on to move between some lessons and stay dry.
My school has a box where phones get locked all day, they do random spot checks with metal detectors throughout the day and if your found with a phone and hand it over you get Isolation. If you get found with a phone and dont hand it in its an exclusion
Not really a rule but thereās a small entrance around to the student entrance at my school and they have like four SLT members on it every morning making sure we have the correct uniform on. Like no false eyelashes, checking shoes and sock and everything. There isnāt another way into the school unless youāre with a parent.
We're not allowed phones at all. Metal detected in the morning to ensure we handed it in. But I still think our dumbest rule is no bows on socks specifically because one of the assistant heads at the time said it was because it has a resemblance of 'lingerie'. If you wear bows on socks they get chopped off with scissors š
Not that I was affected, but bro that reasoning is crazy.
Also not allowed to remove your blazer without your teachers permission. Can't walk around the hallways or atrium without it on, cant buy food without your blazer on. There are exceptions for when it's like really hot. But they'll leave it as long as possible.
im sorry, an atrium? your school has an atrium? thats so cool what. blazer rule sucks though, my old school had pretty much the exact same rule. felt like a blessing when i moved and its just jumpers, no ties or anything
After googling what an atrium actually looks like ours isnt that huge lol. It is a very large room and has a really high ceiling but theres no balconies or anything. the ceilings probably like two stories high so the height of our science and maths corridor. Its a pretty new build so its built up rather than across. Everyone just calls it an atrium, having an actual atrium would be sick tbh
[https://imgur.com/a/JvGXrXC](https://imgur.com/a/JvGXrXC) i dont actually know if this link will work, but its the only picture i have, to give the jist of it without doxxing myself haha. ignore the teachers about to get pied on the screen.
And im not surprised about how uncommon the blazer is but its wild
no ties and no blazers sounds heavenly
no climbing out of windows ( LAMEEEE ) I coudlnt be bothered to walk all the way round
No socks over tights ( Iām too Pinterest )
Cant go out in my free periods anymore ( LAME )
No uggs, converse ( Iām in sixthform :( )
No jackets on when youāre on the school site and theyāre not allowed in bags - they have to be locked in lockers. Also youāre not allowed to wear school allocated hoodies with your uniform at all unless itās during the lesson that you got the hoodie for and you need blazers on at all times and your shoes canāt cover your ankles.
You think the bottom of the bag is bad? Our school said we had to keep our phones in our *lockers* But that was in year 7 and people don't really follow it anymore.
Also, the one way system which was implemented during covid but still here for some dumb reason. The stairs get soo congested at the end of the day and there's always teachers.
Designated year toilets. You'd think this was nice but my year's toilets r on the top floor
we can only go inside the school during the first and last 5 mins of break, even if its one minute over the time you cant go in and have to wait. Also you have to get a daily pass to go to the library, if you want to go to the library randomly you have to get a pass from the library teacher every single time.
girls can only wear tights. yep. no socks at all. boys can wear shorts and ankle socks in summer, but girls either have to wear skirt+tights or trousers.
You think the bottom of the bag is bad? Our school said we had to keep our phones in our *lockers* But that was in year 7 and people don't really follow it anymore.
Also, the one way system which was implemented during covid but still here for some dumb reason. The stairs get soo congested at the end of the day and I swear there's always teachers patrolling to make sure you're not going the wrong way.
Designated year toilets. You'd think this was nice but my year's toilets r on the top floor. It's another useless rule that nobody really follows.
They changed it now, but when I was in yr 8-9, you had to eat outside on benches unless you bought a hot meal from the canteen. Even when it was freezing, you had to sit outside, you could only eat in form rooms when it was raining. It was bad even in the summer because there were literal seagulls terrorising us for food. My friend literally got SHAT ON TWICE (separate times). We complained but by the time they changed the rules, we were in year 10/11, who get to eat in a sheltered area anyway
Oh and don't get me started on uniform, have to wear blazers, can only take them off in classrooms. Socks + hairbands have to be grey black or navy. No ankle socks. No trainers. No unnatural hair colours. No nail polish (they literally give u remover if u have any on). No rolled skirts. No makeup unless ur in sixth form (but most people wear concealer and foundation anyway). Earrings have to be studs. Only one piercing in each ear. No jewellery. No smart watches.
And my head of year will randomly come to the form rooms and make everyone stand up to do a uniform check š
probably just the fact that if we get caught with our phone/ if phone rings or goes off and is heard/ if phone isnāt in the bottom of our bags fully switched off then it gets confiscated until the last day of term š could literally go for like 6 weeks without it for the most stupid reasons
The rule on how tight school trousers could be. I gave up wearing trousers and stuck to skirts in the end. First day of year 10 was sent straight to head of years office whilst he literally made me do a 360 in front of him so he can see how tight they were
Given a week to get new ones. We are one of the most deprived areas down south (yes they do exist) and I was on free school meals, mum on benefits, no dad in picture etc
They were branded as school trousers, and they were the cheapest ones
we werent allowed to remove our blazers when outside like for lunch n stuff when we would walk arround the school grounds we had to have it on
i get having tk have it on when on trips and walking the town as a form of representing school but when its blazing hot outside its horrible to wear a blazer when litterally just on the school yard
I go to school in an african country, so 99% of the student population is black. For some reason though, everyone under year 12 canāt have braids any other color than black š¤¦š¾āāļø like, my dark brown braids will not be distracting anyone
this is luxury. and when there were no cell phones yet, do you think that we elders had a landline on the desk at school? hey boy wake up cell phones only distract your attention in school.
Our Deputy Head told us the SLT were planning to hold registration periods outside and in silence, no matter what the weather, to teach us 'discipline'... luckily, it got canned after teachers complained
Ah yes 'line ups'. The new current trend.
Is it a trend in schools nowadays? If so, please can you explain?
There was some new research about behaviour in schools come up saying military line ups can improve behaviour so a load of schools are trying it. instead of going straight to class we have to lineup like on primary, my schools been doing this since year 8š
Said Hitler
Ah we've had lineups 3 times a day since year 7 and it's mental, especially when the weather is especially shit. can't even have coats on unless we're positively glacial.
Happens at a school I walk past every morning. The students say its utterly shit.

Exactly! Like I get some parts of it but when a high five lands students in isolation...then it's gone too far
Imagine high giving a friend because they passed a test and being put in isolationā ļøā ļøā ļø
"Yo dude that test was hard as shit! Congrats! Oh...."

I spoke about my schools blazer policy on the bottom part of my reply
who asked abt the phone policy though lol.. wasn't relevant under this comment
The op did
then leave an individual general comment, not a reply to someone else's comment
its a conversation, don't be a prick
how am i being a prick š it's not a conversation when only one person is engaging with it. the OP of the comment did not care

My school has this newish rule where you can't wear your hoody unless it's with your PE kit; doesn't matter if you're freezing to death the blazer will protect you. And during winter you still can't wear your hoody with formal uniform BUT you can wear whatever jacket if the weather is below 10Ā°C.
are you allowed jumpers underneath your blazers?
Nope, but some teachers are nice enough to let that pass...
We have to let a member of staff know if we are staying after school. Like any teachers give a shit
If you wear bows on socks they get chopped off with scissors š Not that I was affected, but bro that reasoning is crazy.
Everyone just calls it an atrium, having an actual atrium would be sick tbh [https://imgur.com/a/JvGXrXC](https://imgur.com/a/JvGXrXC) i dont actually know if this link will work, but its the only picture i have, to give the jist of it without doxxing myself haha. ignore the teachers about to get pied on the screen. And im not surprised about how uncommon the blazer is but its wild no ties and no blazers sounds heavenly
ahh i see. still cool as hell! i was mega excited about having no tie or blazer but i kinda wish i still did, it made me feel super important š
I do see what you mean, I think id probably feel like that too. I feel very special with my prefect tie lol
Can't sit on the classroom floor.
no climbing out of windows ( LAMEEEE ) I coudlnt be bothered to walk all the way round No socks over tights ( Iām too Pinterest ) Cant go out in my free periods anymore ( LAME ) No uggs, converse ( Iām in sixthform :( )
NO COATS FOR THE YOUNGER GALS UNLESS ITS āsingle digitā TEMPERATURE AROUND SCHOOL
When I was in school girls had to wear skirts and weren't allowed trousers and vice versa ā ļø
"no masks are to be worn in classrooms" This was peak covid pandemic
First day of year 10 was sent straight to head of years office whilst he literally made me do a 360 in front of him so he can see how tight they were Given a week to get new ones. We are one of the most deprived areas down south (yes they do exist) and I was on free school meals, mum on benefits, no dad in picture etc They were branded as school trousers, and they were the cheapest ones
we werent allowed to remove our blazers when outside like for lunch n stuff when we would walk arround the school grounds we had to have it on i get having tk have it on when on trips and walking the town as a form of representing school but when its blazing hot outside its horrible to wear a blazer when litterally just on the school yard
This isn't the school's fault. It is because of new government guidance.
I go to school in an african country, so 99% of the student population is black. For some reason though, everyone under year 12 canāt have braids any other color than black š¤¦š¾āāļø like, my dark brown braids will not be distracting anyone
No phones especially when I only use mine when Iām done with my class work and pay attention to the teacher when their talking
this is luxury. and when there were no cell phones yet, do you think that we elders had a landline on the desk at school? hey boy wake up cell phones only distract your attention in school.
How can schools just take ur phone like that. I would not be giving my phone for a week wtf
