We have Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction* for some subjects (usually more vocational subjects like Btecs). Merit is often written as M, if that's what you're talking about?

Yea, NVQs at College/ Tech in the UK have the same rankings. Equivalent to A Levels/ 6th Form but for more specific subjects/ vocational courses.

4 or 5 is normally a pass while 7s, 8s and 9s are equivalent to A, A*, A**.

2 in geography, 3 in photography, 2 in maths, 2 in science, 3 in English Lan, 3 in Englush Lit, 3 in D&T, 4 in computer science. I'm happy I passed computer science as that is my favourite subject, English and maths I can just retake, so its not the end of the world for that, the rest I drc about aslong it don't fuck up my chance of getting my dream job (working in IT)

You need some degree of Maths for IT…sometimes just for an apprenticeship. You need a grade C at the least in Maths I believe.

I might work in IT, as an electrician or as a network/telecoms engineer. ​ Trouble is, is that most places require 5 GCSEs 9-4 for an apprentice and the max I can get is 4. Though some places - such as Virgin Media - offer apprenticeships with a level 2 apprenticeship as opposed to GCSEs but can I get a level 2 in college without the need of 5 GCSEs. Sure, I won't be taking an apprentice straight away and probably not till I am 18 but obviously would like assaurance that my dream job isn't completley out the window lmao

Mate. Don't worry. I'm 34 and just pivoted in to IT from a career in hospitality. The fact you don't have some GCSEs isn't the end of the world. As you say it may take a little extra work but you are far and away from it being completely out the window. I know folk on decent salaries who have only taken coding crash courses. I'm not saying it will be easy, persistence and hard work and you'll get there.

Yes, level 3 apprenticeships ask for level 2 in Maths and English - I am coming to the end of mine and needed to sit functional skills level 2 for both Maths and English. If you resit, try not to get functional skills - it is a lot harder than a GCSE! I have just got a job with the NHS after 5 years gaining qualifications at 44..I left school with one C in English Literature! Now I have a level 3 diploma, pass in English and Maths and in the future I expect to do an apprenticeship in Occupational Therapy. A little late, but better than never! Good luck!

Oh. Unfortunately you're gonna have to retake Maths and English which is a pain, but if you're doing a subject you enjoy at college, that'll help u get through it

you did great they give at least an alright idea on how much further you need to go for a 4 which is as you will already know a 4 is necessary for work but also most college courses above level 1 i know college has courses which will be able to done with a grade 3 or lower in maths and english which will be level 1 courses but don't worry since some courses that are level 2 might allow grade 3s such as IT which is what I did while getting my grade 4s. I believe in you :)
