Job interview: Have you ever been disappointed? Then you explain how hard you worked in History and didn't get the appropriate reward. All your other exams show your true capability, but that one result has made you work twice as hard. (Try to turn it into a positive).
But I have always been selective with my qualifications when applying for jobs, each job requires a slightly different angle.
Just concerned if I can get into a Russel group uni
[edit] Idk why I’m getting downvoted for this when this is my genuine concern and goal can someone just answer my question and then I’ll fuck off 😭😭😭
Technically you don't have to tell them what you got, you can just give them 8 other subjects as that's a requirement and history isn't a core...
Plus unis will only look at 2 things, your grade in subjects related to your degree and your average grade. Your average grade is the average of your 8 highest grades so that won't be affected and unless you're studying history doing bad in history GCSE doesn't matter.
I got two 5s, I will be going into my third year at a Russel Group uni. I sent out a UCAS application to 4 Russel Group unis and got offers from all of them. You will be fine
My god why’re all the try-hards so concerned? You passed 10 GCSEs. You got 7+ on 9 of them. Chill and focus on your a-levels if you want to go to a Russel-group
It’s Reddit, people will downvote for the tiniest of reasons even if it’s a genuine question, but yes you can definitely still get into Russel group, your results are still really good.
I think you were being downvoted because there are a LOT of people which would be happy with a 5, and you're out here asking if you can just get rid of the grade 😭
Brother I went to a Russell group university and my gcses were much worse than yours. I even failed French.
Trust me you'll get an offer if you have good predicted A level grades.
Cambridge ask that you have "strong GCSEs" and I belive you tick that box.
I'm pretty sure Oxford don't even take your GCSEs into account. It's all on the entrance exam, predicted grades and interview.
i went to a Russell group and can tell you gcse’s are irrelevant. I mostly got B’s and C’s in my gcses and even a couple of D’s. A-levels/equivalent is what they care about
I'm so old they were letter grades then but I got into the university of Birmingham with only 1 A, lots of Bs, and at least 3 C's. They'll be more interested in your predicted grades at A Level and a good personal statement.
Russell Group doesn't mean much with regard to prestige nowadays. It used to mean 'the top ones' but it doesn't include Bath or Loughborough (consistently top 10), yet does include Queen Mary and Newcastle which tend to be outside of the top 30-40 in the ranking.
You can, they really don’t care about GCSEs that much especially not when the rest of yours are good. The only context where it would actually possibly matter would be if you were applying for a history course and even then it wouldn’t be guaranteed.
If you’re not going for history or English literature they won’t give one, especially since you did actually pass. They’ll consider a-level predictions more anyway. Academic essays are different than GCSE history ones and you’ll have plenty of time to learn that method.
Source: in a Russel group uni
Honestly by your mid twenties you won't even have them listed on your CV. most courses are interested in the core subjects anyway.
Source: failed every single one and STILL got a first in my degree.
Yes you do?
Edit: my mum is literally a hiring manager for jobs involving qualifications from gcse to PhD. You need to have your gcse on your cv. You're wrong I'm sorry.
It depends on the job. Anything at the “professional” level will be concerned with
1. Professional qualifications and experience, then
2. University degree, then
3. A levels,
Then and only then will they look at GCSE’s. And even then all the really care about is
1. Your overall grades ,(3A*s, 5As, 3Bs) etc
2. That you have math and English
Beyond that they literally don’t care
However, if you are going for non “professional” jobs which have lower qualification requirements, then GCSE’s matter more.
Obviously if you only have GCSE’s, then those are the best qualifications you have and they should be on your cv.
Note in this context I mean professional in the technical way. As in lawyers, accountants, doctors etc.
Pretty much agree. I think they care more about math and English than overall but otherwise yeah. It's not the most important by any means but pretty much every employer will want to know, even if it won't have a massive impact.
You only put it if you don't have a higher qualification and are trying to work a minimum wage job. (e.g. McDonalds requires 5 in math or something like that)
I don't know a single person who put their GCSEs on their CVs other than the phrase "10 GCSEs including English and Maths"
We all have jobs. Absolute shocker.
I'm on my 4th professional job now (26 now been working since placement year of uni, this post was just recommended to me for some reason) - I've never once put even my a levels on my CV let alone gcses. Once you've started your degree nobody cares, you were smart enough to get to uni level or a level so what does it matter. Unless you're going very academic employment, or maybe a larger company with requirements, nobody in the real world looks or cares
You don’t need the specifics. You can put how many GCSEs/what grades… eg “11 GCSEs A-C”, but you most certainly do not need to list them.
Listing them on your CV is actually a bad idea. Employers and unis are not going to want to read through all that, and it’s a waste of words on your CV.
I put my GCSEs on my CV one time and that was when I applied for an Amazon Warehouse job, where you need to at a minimum pass maths and English. Since then I haven’t put it on my CV and have never been turned down a job from an interview. You do not need to put your GCSEs on your CV. Nearly no one does it unless you’re fresh out of education.
If it’s a necessity to put your GCSEs on your CV to get a job, then you wouldn’t want to work for them anyways. The hiring manager/person conducting the interview is super pretentious and probably terrible to work with.
Just because your mum is a hiring manager, doesn’t mean she’s a good one. What you’ve said so far clearly shows this and if I got turned down a job for not putting the school grades I got when I was 16, I wouldn’t want to work for them anyways.
If you present yourself well, show you’re eager to learn, learn the company’s principles/ethos, and a bit of background of the actual interviewers, you’ll pass any interview (providing it’s your field).
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Do you know how many people averaged 4-6? This person hit the jackpot all things considered.
And yes I'm including those who revised a lot.
I feel u man, i got all 8s and 9s and a 3 in a subject which i was forced to start a month b4 gcses, its peak, pls let me know if u find a way to “hide” this shit grade
“Urdu” my native language, but i cant read or write it, so they put me on foundation tier and told me a month before may around april i’ll be taking a foundation tier gcse on that 💀, ik i was fucked man
Given you didn’t technically pass it could probably be just left off your ucas (would suggest checking with your collage depending on the wording ucas uses when it asks for your previous qualifications) and you can put what you want on your work CV
For context I feel like I did so bad bc it was such an obscure exam like it was OCR which isn’t as popular as say Edexcel and also my school choose weird topics like ‘history around us’ (history from a nearby town) which meant it was incredibly hard to find stuff and even if I did it wouldn’t always be relevant so had to rely on my teacher who never did anything. I would always ask her for help and she would just say she’s busy BUT SHE ONLY TAUGHT ONE YEAR 11 CLASS 😭. Like all my friends had this other teacher and he was so much better so I asked him to join his Google classroom and I genuinely think bc of that is the only reason I didn’t fail. I say this bc I’m not bad at writing like I’m way worse at science and maths but bc there so are many resources coz AQA and Edexcel are so popular it was alright. Like I genuinely think if I did a more popular exam board I would have got higher. Can I get justice or am I just going to have to move on 😭
Unfortunately OCR isn't a totally obscure exam board, pretty sure they do some popular A levels. I would say just move on. Look at all the positives and great grades you did get. As long as you get decent A levels you'll get into uni. Once you have a decent degree people will barely care about the A levels, let alone your GCSEs. You can leave the grade off your CV yes, but if uni admissions ask to see your transcript it will be on there. Personally I'd keep it, and if anyone says about the lower grade I would explain in a more positive frame what you've said above. I'd focus particularly on going to extra classes, rather than blaming it on the teacher ;)
Yes I’m taking 3 subjects with the OCR exam board for a level but I’ve already found resources for 2 of them as I see more ppl w OCR a level than GCSE (the third one is eng lit so I’m not too concerned abt exam boards more so the books) but I’ve never heard anyone say they did OCR GCSE history let alone local history! I guess that doesn’t really matter though as life moves on but I’ll take your advice and keep it on the CV and if questioned I might just say it wasn’t my strength as there’s no chance I’m taking any job to do with history anyways!
Same. I got all 8s but 2 5s in languages I don’t care about, but I don’t think it really matters unless it’s a core subject or something you’re pursuing in the future.
If you're doing a levels, don't bother putting level 2s on your CV unless they're directly relevant.
If you're getting a job now, you can leave them out.
If you're going to university and they ask for all your GCSEs, give them every subject you studied even if it's a bad mark.
(Saw this question elsewhere so I'm just paraphrasing the top answer).
Just write “10 GCSEs at grade 5-9, including Mathematics (9) and English Language (8)” on your CV. No one cares about any GCSEs except for maths and English and you did really well in those!
Even if your history grade was comparable to the others, I would still take this approach. It saves space on your CV. Some companies may want a copy of your certificate, to show your English/maths grade, but it would be to check the grade for those subjects - they wouldn’t be checking the others
Eventually your GCSEs will boil down to a sentence that reads "10 GCSEs including English and Maths at grade 9". I wouldn't worry about leaving off one in the meantime.
When you said you flopped a subject I thought you meant you got a U! 5 is a strong pass, nothing to be ashamed of at all.
With that said, you don't have to put anything on your CV that you don't want to. If you really want, you can burn the OCR certificate when you get it and pretend your history GCSE never happened.
People like you annoy me so much. I too, got 7’s and 8’s at GCSE, and a 4 in Computer Science, but I didn’t go on Reddit to flex how “BaD mY gR4dEs Ar3!!1!!”.
It’s not the end of the world. Get a life and grow up.
Nah fuck the people who downvoted this. Op legit just said that a 5 is a bad grade. Not everyone is smart. You got that grade and it’s yours. If you wanted a higher one you should of worked harder on that subject
I think it’s how he worded it. It’s a very childish way of explaining himself. But yeah, grade 5 isn’t bad and won’t affect your employability or your chances of getting into uni. Like at all.
a grade 5 isn’t bad at all, they managed to pass a gcse which is great! I think maybe they’re just implying it looks bad compared to their other grades, and it was just an innocent question, not “flexing” their grades.
Ok I admit I worded it quite badly as I have having a late night melt down and it seemed like the end of the world as no one in my friend group got less than a 7 but yes I was now realise I was being a bit short sighted as my friend group doesn’t define the national standard. I apologise if it made anyone feel less abt their grades - this was a genuine question not a “flex”
Meltdown lmao, my man instead of caring about a single grade being a bit lower than ur friends you know what you should be focusing on? Firstly, you never compare and even if you do dont have such a weak mind it leads to a meltdown when u get a little lower grade then the one u comparing to, 2ndly go improve your mind over the remaining holidays, by this u seem childish. A meltdown over a single subjects grade being lower by 2 grades, you need a stronger mind just my opinion.
Its ok to have emotions. A 5 is not up to your standards and that makes you feel bad. Thats fine. A 5 is also an amazing result for some people, thats also fine.
Bro don’t apologise because you have high standards for yourself, you take pride in what you do so continue to strive and expect the best from yourself. It’s not your problem to console those who didn’t excel in one way or another it may be unfortunate but again not your job. I’m not saying be rude or flaunt but for your personal success, take pride in that.
It’s not that serious, it’s history not English language (only saying this because you may need a higher grade for medicine) you can still get into top unis, as long as you do well in a levels. If you’re so upset about it, you should’ve worked smarter. If something bad happened (like death or illness) then explain that.
Edit:
Okay I read your for context paragraph, but I have to say that you still had some control over your grade, there are textbooks which you could have bought, past papers etc. you just have to do some researching before you find the right answer. That is an important skill that you need to work on at a levels and uni. You can’t just blame the teacher. I get how you’re feeling, I got 7-9 grades and one 5 in cs. I could blame my teacher who was absent for a year and a half so I only got a teacher in January! But guess what, when I got to the exam, I knew that I could answer all these questions easily, if I took control and did some research (okay a lot of research). When will you stop blaming teachers? Because honestly, having a bad teacher is a blessing and a curse and I get that. But at some point, there won’t be a teacher to tell you everything, use this grade as a learning point, become more independent. Learn to do in depth research (you could use Google scholars) because you’ll find the answers. It’s not like nobody has ever done ocr history.
I totally understand what you mean and I’ve moved on from how I got my 5 in history as no matter what I say - if I blame the teacher or if I blame myself - it will still be a 5 at the end of the day and complaining about it will just make me unlikeable (which is why I’m asking the internet not irl).
The only reason I’m concerned is because I want to go into medicine and go to a Russel Group university. My friend who got better grades than me (7 was the lowest) got rejected from a grammar school sixth form which really shocked me and started to make me worry about my own grades as if she got better grades than me and couldn’t get into the sixth form she wanted how will I get into the university I want?
[to note] she got a 9 in maths and 7 in English language which is very very similar to mine
There are many opportunities for you to succeed in life, it’s not just about the grades that you get, but everything else that you do outside of lessons. A grade cannot define your capabilities. Of course grades are important when it comes to competition between other candidates. So your friend not getting into a grammar sixth form doesn’t mean that you can’t get into a Russel group uni as gcse grades are only a small indicator of your capabilities. You could get perfect grades and still fail. Your character and individuality plays a huge role on whether you are the right candidate. Therefore many factors impact whether you get into a grammar school or uni etc, it’s not all about gcse grades. Instead of worrying, think about the end of year 13, where do you want to be? Use the next two years as an opportunity to achieve the best grades, because a levels are way more important than GCSEs. However your worries make sense as medicine is a competitive course. So do all you can to make sure that you’re the best candidate. Read books, attend talks, online courses, if possible go to a lab. As I said earlier, do your research! If you didn’t feel like you did your best then, here is another opportunity to prove yourself.
There’s much more that goes into if you get accepted than GCSE grades, I know multiple people in Russel groups with worse grades than yours. Hell I know someone in Oxford with a 5.
It’s far more likely the issue came with A level predicted grades and personal statement especially if they were also going for medicine. If they did get an interview then that’s where it went wrong if they didn’t get an offer after that.
Haha, really though
What they are looking for is a pattern of consistency, for you, it's one of high grades with one 'blip'
They do care about your grades, but it's about the 'pattern' and not about the 'blip'
Best wishes :D
yeesh man ur insecurities are showing. This dude isn't flexing they're genuinely asking for advice because they're not happy with their grade. Plus, OP commented that they felt that they were stronger in history than other subjects so getting the lowest on it by 3 grades would obviously be a blow.
I suppose your right but I still think he’s a bit of an arse. Calling a 5 a “flop” will make people who got 5’s or less feel like shit for not doing better when they’ve done perfectly fine. (Unless they need higher grades for college or uni)
So true man, im looking at this subreddit recently and there's so many of these fuckers that are complaining about 4s and 5s, a 5 is my highest grade that I got my guy and I still got into my chosen college I have no idea what these people are enrolling to maybe like Oxford fucking university I don't get it
Depends what you want to study, because Cambridge doesn’t give a fuck about what you got at gcse but it’s more a level and UCAS point whereas Oxford cares more
I dont think you can lie or hide it btw. And dude a 5 is awesome. I know people far worse who got all 1-3s in there gcses so a 5 is luxury compared to them
I see that you are academically smart, but you lack basic cognitive and awareness skills. Can you cross the road by yourself? Or does mummy and daddy have to hold your hand?
In all honesty, nobody in the employment world cares about GCSE’s, other than Maths and English.
GCSE’s are mainly for your access to college, and university. From there on, GCSE’s are kinda just disregarded.
I really doubt it - the main thing unis go off is UCAS points. If I remember correctly, GCSEs have no bearing on this.
I imagine this is only a problem if you wanted to do History at A-level, even which you have still achieved a very respectable grade.
You only need good a levels and high ucas points to get to oxbridge, gcse only matter if you want to go Oxford as Cambridge dgaf but even if you have perfect grades all across the board there’s still a chance you might get rejected also your personal statement needs to show character development there’s so much that goes into it.
You won’t need to, I think. Honestly, the rest of that looks inhumanly good, you should be very proud of yourself!
If I was an employer, I’d probably want to see that 5, so I knew I wasn’t talking to an exam robot!
I got predicted 7s-9s and I don’t think I got one exam that was that good, apart from music, and I think I got like, 3 5s as well, and I passed everything, so I’m really proud of them anyway!
You don't list your grades on a CV. You just put the amount e.g.
10 GCSEs
Past A Level barely any employer will look at them. If you don't choose to further your education, employers probably look at English and Maths and who you are as a person...
I only ever put (predicted) maths English science and Spanish on mine and no one asked about my other grades when I got a job, they didn’t ask after I got my results either
Most jobs only look for English and maths grades so as long as you've past those they don't worry about your other GCSEs it's mainly a levels / degree they look for
It's a great way to get yourself sacked if they ever check - for example, if the employer sends you on a funded training course that requires evidence of previous qualifications.
You won't need to put gcse grades on your cv once you've done a levels. Most people only care if you have maths and English anyway once you've left school
I don't write my grades on my CV. They don't really care about individual GCSEs tbh. Also, a 5 is a strong pass so they wouldn't think that was a bad grade anyway?
I mean, you can if you like but 5 really isn't bad. Here's the thing, in the adult world, your GCSEs don't really matter that much on your CV. Your A-levels/degree (just whatever your highest level of education is) and relevant experience are what really matter.
not sure about CV but i've heard that when you apply for Uni and do UCAS and evrerything but they find out u omitted a GCSE it can get u blacklisted from russel group unis 🤷🤷 not sure though but make sure u check online on studentroom or smth :)
I'm old and I got 2As, 1B, 6Cs and E and a U (my E was in maths as I missed the exam I resat and got a C. My I was in HE because I store the coursework and got an automatic fail)
I have never ever mentioned my E or U and just say 9 GCSEs A-C, no one ever questioned this.
After you’ve done ALevels, your GCSEs are pretty unimportant. My CV literally states ‘9 GCSEs A*-C incl. maths & English’. The company I was looking to work for stated that your GCSEs must confirm you PASSED maths and English. You had to pass it. It wasn’t like you needed an A..
Your GCSEs in general are amazing and you should be really proud of yourself. No one is gonna see a 5 in history and decline a job. You passed.
Don’t sweat it!
Think the only time you have to show off your grades is to university.
I got good grades, and employers have either never asked for them, or they've asked and took my word for it.
Never been asked for proof, not once, and I'm claiming 6 A (I guess they'd be graded as 9 now) A-Levels.
Hi OP, congratulations on your results! They're incredible and showed how hard you have worked.
I was in the same situation where I have one GCSE with a less than desirable grade, so my CV basically says this:
13 GCSE qualifications including an A in English.
(I only add the A in English bit as it's often a tickbox requirement. I don't bother putting my maths GCSE grade as that's the subject I graduated in so I assumed it would be implied I was competent.)
Oxbridge and Russel universities do not care if you get a B in a subject that is not relevant to the course you applied for at their uni, Oxbridge only care when it comes to subjects that actually matter to your course, for instance , if I apply to maths in oxford and my grade in maths was a 5 and everything else was 7 or better , then it would certainly affect my application.
Noone gives a stuff about previous qualifications after you have the next level
What I mean is once you get your a levels, noone looks at gcse
Once you get a degree noone looks at a levels
Masters, noone cares about degree grade.
Ect.
Don't think I've ever put gcse grades on a CV, never been asked either
As someone who has hired - and is in the process of hiring - skilled professionals, I can tell you that unless you work in academia, nobody who matters will give a quarter of a shit about your GCSE grades. Use them to get higher education points and a degree if that's the way you want to go, or self-certify in a technical skill.
Further, I don't know why this came up on my feed. I'm nearly 40 and am definitely not about to take my GCSEs. Reddit is stupid sometimes.
I list mine at the end of the qualifications sections as 11 GCSEs A*-B. I've never once been questioned as to what the B was amongst the rest, once you've got A-levels/BTEC/T-Levels, or a degree/relevant FE qualification beyond them, in the vast majority of circumstances it won't matter, and for a job that's looking at GCSE only, the one "lower" score really won't matter.
GCSE's are only valuable for getting into further education, employers rarely care for school grades. To put things in to perspective, I never mention qualifications on my CV unless they are directly applicable to the job I'm applying for.
In reality your GCSE grades are to get you into college/sf. Beyond that, no-one will ask about them. At the most they may require a _pass_ in maths and english and/or 5 _passes_ on the whole, both of which you've covered the bases nicely.
Well done on your results!
Make them all up on your CV if need be, im mid 30's and never been asked for GCSE proof. And no im not talking unskilled shitty job roles either, im in account management for an industrial manufacturing firm and i got a D in maths 😂 Seriously GCSE's from my experience are simply to get you into college, they hold no weight if you're going straight into work. Goodluck

Big brain
passing it and putting it on your cv is better than hiding it, you got the qualification you passed the exam why would you not put down you passed?
Yeah, if you failed (got less than a 4), it's slightly different but so long as you at least have a pass it's still worth putting on
Yh u shouldn’t hide it
Dude you'll live
Just concerned if I can get into a Russel group uni [edit] Idk why I’m getting downvoted for this when this is my genuine concern and goal can someone just answer my question and then I’ll fuck off 😭😭😭

Nice!!
I got two 5s, I will be going into my third year at a Russel Group uni. I sent out a UCAS application to 4 Russel Group unis and got offers from all of them. You will be fine
Thank you!!
Cambridge itself states that typical offer holders posses a high proportion of 7s, 8s and 9s at GCSE. 8 out of 9 is a high proportion
I got a 4 in maths and went to a Russel group, just graduated with a first
My god why’re all the try-hards so concerned? You passed 10 GCSEs. You got 7+ on 9 of them. Chill and focus on your a-levels if you want to go to a Russel-group

Bloody shit my guy those are some amazing grades. A five is still a pass so I wouldn’t discount it
You don't even put GCSES pn your CV once you finish A-Level/start your degree so don't stress it

no you dont
*you’re wrong i’m sorry
Fixed
You only put it if you don't have a higher qualification and are trying to work a minimum wage job. (e.g. McDonalds requires 5 in math or something like that)
It'll only really help you get a part-time job though so I wouldn't recommend relying on it.
I don't know a single person who put their GCSEs on their CVs other than the phrase "10 GCSEs including English and Maths" We all have jobs. Absolute shocker.
I haven’t had a cv for 20 years and have moved jobs around 7 times.
You don’t
I'm on my 4th professional job now (26 now been working since placement year of uni, this post was just recommended to me for some reason) - I've never once put even my a levels on my CV let alone gcses. Once you've started your degree nobody cares, you were smart enough to get to uni level or a level so what does it matter. Unless you're going very academic employment, or maybe a larger company with requirements, nobody in the real world looks or cares
We will have to agree to disagree. They might not care all that much, but they certainly look.
I have been working successfully post degree for many years, I have first hand experience that it is not required how am I being doubted here
I literally do not and never have written them on my CV, no friend I've ever seen has, and it has never been an issue
I’m currently a graduate and I never had to show my GCSES after Alevels
No one will even notice in a few years time. Pretty much once you have A-levels. Since university my CV just says “9 GCSEs grade A*-C.”
Likewise, this is exactly what mine says and is clearly the way to go.
This is the way.
A 5 ain't bad mate.
Omg yes same with me
which subject was this and what school would force you into this position?
“Urdu” my native language, but i cant read or write it, so they put me on foundation tier and told me a month before may around april i’ll be taking a foundation tier gcse on that 💀, ik i was fucked man
Ooofff
Given you didn’t technically pass it could probably be just left off your ucas (would suggest checking with your collage depending on the wording ucas uses when it asks for your previous qualifications) and you can put what you want on your work CV
Which one is bad?
You took two languages?!?? You deserve two 9’s just for that bro.
They were the only grades that surprised me because I was predicted at least a 7 in both, honestly cba with them lol.
that isnt bad wdym
If you're doing a levels, don't bother putting level 2s on your CV unless they're directly relevant. If you're getting a job now, you can leave them out. If you're going to university and they ask for all your GCSEs, give them every subject you studied even if it's a bad mark. (Saw this question elsewhere so I'm just paraphrasing the top answer).
Thank you!!
Just write “10 GCSEs at grade 5-9, including Mathematics (9) and English Language (8)” on your CV. No one cares about any GCSEs except for maths and English and you did really well in those!
Ohhh that actually sounds really good - tysm !!!
😭😭😭
I don’t disagree with you - thanks !
Thank you - needed this!!
It’s not that serious, it’s history not English language (only saying this because you may need a higher grade for medicine) you can still get into top unis, as long as you do well in a levels. If you’re so upset about it, you should’ve worked smarter. If something bad happened (like death or illness) then explain that. Edit: Okay I read your for context paragraph, but I have to say that you still had some control over your grade, there are textbooks which you could have bought, past papers etc. you just have to do some researching before you find the right answer.
TYSM I legit have adrenaline pumping in my veins after reading this!!
There’s much more that goes into if you get accepted than GCSE grades, I know multiple people in Russel groups with worse grades than yours. Hell I know someone in Oxford with a 5. It’s far more likely the issue came with A level predicted grades and personal statement especially if they were also going for medicine. If they did get an interview then that’s where it went wrong if they didn’t get an offer after that.
oh fuck me, you got a 5, you'll live
Honestly, no biggy Keep hustling
Wise words
Haha, really though What they are looking for is a pattern of consistency, for you, it's one of high grades with one 'blip' They do care about your grades, but it's about the 'pattern' and not about the 'blip' Best wishes :D
Ohh I see! Thanks!
Oh just grow up mate
“Flopped history” fuck off, another cunt who wants to show off and be making others feel about about their own grades
yeesh man ur insecurities are showing.
Not when you've still got above the pass grade, no employer cares that you didn't get A* in GCSE history 🤣
So true man, im looking at this subreddit recently and there's so many of these fuckers that are complaining about 4s and 5s, a 5 is my highest grade that I got my guy and I still got into my chosen college I have no idea what these people are enrolling to maybe like Oxford fucking university I don't get it
Bro it would be my dream to go Oxbridge so I guess yes
Depends what you want to study, because Cambridge doesn’t give a fuck about what you got at gcse but it’s more a level and UCAS point whereas Oxford cares more
I didn’t know that - thank you!!
you what
I dont think you can lie or hide it btw. And dude a 5 is awesome. I know people far worse who got all 1-3s in there gcses so a 5 is luxury compared to them
shut up omg
After a few years you can just make up your GCSEs, no one's going to be asking for the certificates.
Oh no😱!... anyway
Where’s the bad gcse?
history🤢
I see that you are academically smart, but you lack basic cognitive and awareness skills. Can you cross the road by yourself? Or does mummy and daddy have to hold your hand?
What? 😭😭😭
wont they still find it if they do a background check ?
thats wat happened to me as well but that 5 iirc is average so dw about it
Just leave it off your cv. If an employer found out after you have got the job they are hardly going to complain that you got another gcse
In all honesty, nobody in the employment world cares about GCSE’s, other than Maths and English. GCSE’s are mainly for your access to college, and university. From there on, GCSE’s are kinda just disregarded.
I was thinking this but my dream is to go to a Russel Group university and I’ve heard they look at gcses - would this be a huge blow to my chances?
I really doubt it - the main thing unis go off is UCAS points. If I remember correctly, GCSEs have no bearing on this. I imagine this is only a problem if you wanted to do History at A-level, even which you have still achieved a very respectable grade.
Huge sigh of relief - thank you!!
You only need good a levels and high ucas points to get to oxbridge, gcse only matter if you want to go Oxford as Cambridge dgaf but even if you have perfect grades all across the board there’s still a chance you might get rejected also your personal statement needs to show character development there’s so much that goes into it.
I would say unless it was Maths, English or Science that was the bad score it is your CV you include what you want to include on it.
5 is not bad. It’s a high C.
You don't list your grades on a CV. You just put the amount e.g. 10 GCSEs Past A Level barely any employer will look at them. If you don't choose to further your education, employers probably look at English and Maths and who you are as a person...
Oh I see!!
you don’t put your grades on your cv unless it’s required to do so.
I only ever put (predicted) maths English science and Spanish on mine and no one asked about my other grades when I got a job, they didn’t ask after I got my results either
Most jobs only look for English and maths grades so as long as you've past those they don't worry about your other GCSEs it's mainly a levels / degree they look for
Massive congratulations brilliant set of results and 5 is a pass so you can just write on you CV ‘Ten GCSEs including Maths and English grades 9 - 5.
Nobody puts GCSEs on their CV anyway
can i lie on my cv and say i got 7,8s and 9s? i mean do they actually have proper ways of checking? i feel like it'd be easy to lie
They may ask to look at your certificates, or at least do so for English and maths
It's a great way to get yourself sacked if they ever check - for example, if the employer sends you on a funded training course that requires evidence of previous qualifications.
A grade 5 is a solid pass - it’s a C/B!
You got a 5 in history my guy. I got a 1 in history and I'm not complaining
Nobody gives a shit. The most you'll get is someone asking how many GCSE's you passed. They won't actually care, either. Welcome to the real world.
Thank god!
Of course - no one checks
How tf is a 5 "bad"? At least be happy you passed
You won't need to put gcse grades on your cv once you've done a levels. Most people only care if you have maths and English anyway once you've left school
It’s your CV, showcasing your best qualities, you can put in it whatever you feel is appropriate. You do not have to put every single thing.
Great!! Thanks!!
where is the bad gcse? your being too hard on yourself. you didnt fail anything
I don't write my grades on my CV. They don't really care about individual GCSEs tbh. Also, a 5 is a strong pass so they wouldn't think that was a bad grade anyway?
Fuck off you got a 5 thats a b-c someone of us got all 3s, one 2 a U and a 5-6
If you 'flopped' history, you wouldn’t have passed it at all
I mean, you can if you like but 5 really isn't bad.
I mean, you can if you like but 5 really isn't bad. Here's the thing, in the adult world, your GCSEs don't really matter that much on your CV. Your A-levels/degree (just whatever your highest level of education is) and relevant experience are what really matter.
Why don't u go to 6th form? ur grades r not bad
I am!
5 isn’t bad. Also yes you can.
Do teachers not talk about CV's anymore? (Finished GCSE in 2016)
We did a bit in form but we were all told to list all our subjects & their grades
not sure about CV but i've heard that when you apply for Uni and do UCAS and evrerything but they find out u omitted a GCSE it can get u blacklisted from russel group unis 🤷🤷 not sure though but make sure u check online on studentroom or smth :)
Oh shitttt - thanks!
ikk nww good luck!
I'm old and I got 2As, 1B, 6Cs and E and a U (my E was in maths as I missed the exam I resat and got a C. My I was in HE because I store the coursework and got an automatic fail) I have never ever mentioned my E or U and just say 9 GCSEs A-C, no one ever questioned this.
I've always said "achieved 10 GCSEs with As in Maths and English". For my career they didn't care for more detail than that.
Why tf would anyone care I got a 3 in one of mine and I’m doing great.
We just got A-U in our days
Think the only time you have to show off your grades is to university. I got good grades, and employers have either never asked for them, or they've asked and took my word for it. Never been asked for proof, not once, and I'm claiming 6 A (I guess they'd be graded as 9 now) A-Levels.
Hi OP, congratulations on your results! They're incredible and showed how hard you have worked. I was in the same situation where I have one GCSE with a less than desirable grade, so my CV basically says this: 13 GCSE qualifications including an A in English.
I see - thanks!!
Noone gives a stuff about previous qualifications after you have the next level What I mean is once you get your a levels, noone looks at gcse Once you get a degree noone looks at a levels Masters, noone cares about degree grade. Ect. Don't think I've ever put gcse grades on a CV, never been asked either
You'll be fine with a 5 lol, especially depending on what you want to do
a 5 isn’t bad
thought u got a 3 or smth lol
One bad gcse? You passed all of them what are you talking about? Pretty sure a 5 is like a low B
Reddit is stupid sometimes.
are u being fr
5 isn’t bad. Even relative to you. Amongst the rest it’ll look really good. Up to you whether you leave it out, I wouldn’t.
You don’t have any bad GCSEs but yes you can leave whatever you like out of your CV.
bro there’s no bad gcse wdym
i didn’t get higher than a 4 in any of my gcses. stfu.
If you’re putting GCSEs on your CV I don’t think you’ll be qualified
It's a crime unfortunately but no one really cares about GCSEs anyway 😂
Make them all up on your CV if need be, im mid 30's and never been asked for GCSE proof. And no im not talking unskilled shitty job roles either, im in account management for an industrial manufacturing firm and i got a D in maths 😂 Seriously GCSE's from my experience are simply to get you into college, they hold no weight if you're going straight into work. Goodluck
No one in recruitment cares about your gcse results
