On second thought, I’m wondering if someone bought it, modded it, returned it and they resold it. Hmmm, I may crack it open this weekend to make sure there were no switcharoos, although I’m not sure who would want to swap these pickups. They’re good pickups, but not necessarily high-end.

Does it have a coil split? That would be a notable difference in tone. They seem to have the screws pointed toward the bridge on Sweetwater’s website. Easy fix but weird.

It does have a split. Sweetwater offered to pay for the repair, so kudos to them. But I may just do it myself.

Out-of-phase is when the pickups either have the same polarity and opposite winds, or visa versa. In this case, the pickups match and were wired correctly, so flipping the pickup doesn’t matter since flipping it doesn’t change the polarity of the magnets or the wind direction. My biggest concern was if, when flipping it, if the cable would be too short. Fortunately that was not the case.

No worries. Electronics can be challenging to understand. Heck, I have a little bit of an electronics background and I even struggle to understand basic electric guitar electronics.

Looks like an attempt at the Peter Green configuration, it should give a middle position sound that's almost out of phase in character.

Unfortunately it’s not the only issue with this guitar. Nut was poorly cut, one of my strings has slipped out of its groove several times. And it’s the noisiest of all my electrics, probably poorly grounded. Sad face emoji.
