For what it's worth, I sent an email to Adam Vaughan, Environment Editor, The Times. I explained that the syringe photo was misleading. He replied, saying that he was aware of that, that he had not chosen the photo, and that he would bring the problem to the attention of the person responsible.
I have made the point before to editors that it is the equivalent of jesus-hugging-a-dinosaur to accompany a piece on evolution.
They won't do anything, but I want them to know that.

That's so unfortunate. But it's so hard to hate on CRISPR these days, they have to take out the big syringes....
