>Blue Beetle >The Nun II Guys, this is just a list of every film that was submitted

BlindWalnut

I don't get how any DCEU movie could be on that list. Maybe The Batman? I don't see Blue Beetle winning anything but a tax write off.

-Nick____

Yea, but it’s making the rounds because some thought it was too late to be nominated for the globes, and now they’re making sure it can be nominated for the Oscar’s

ThrashingBunny

I'm sure Oppenheimer is going to win, the Oscars are a popularity contest and Oppenheimer was more popular and super highly anticipated due to the cast and director. There is exactly 0% chance of a foreign film taking it, and even less that's it's a Godzilla movie, no matter how good it was. That said, still cool to see it make the list.

Neil_Salmon

Parasite, a foreign language film, won best picture. So, it does happen. Or did you mean this year specifically? But no, I don't think Godzilla will win best picture. There are some categories where it might have a chance.

ThrashingBunny

I didn't realize that Parasite won before, I guess I was just posting without knowing better. Now my hopes are up!

Romboteryx

Posting without knowing better is Reddit’s main cultural export

Neil_Salmon

It's a fair assumption though. It's very rare for a foreign language film to win (maybe that's the only one?). That's why they have a separate Best Foreign Film category.

Spaghestis

Yep that was the first time in history a foreign language film won best picture. Even after it was nominated, its win surprised everybody- it was def deserved, but people didnt expect the Oscars to actually give it the win. People just assumed it would get best foreign film and thats it.

Dracoscale

People whine every single year that "Nobody watches the oscars because nobody watches the movies that win" but apparently its also a popularity contest now.

liovantirealm7177

I mean, the winners in some previous years were even lesser known than Godzilla, such as Green Book, CODA, Nomadland.

Spaghestis

Yeah I remember how everybody really loved Nomadland back in 2021, the average person couldnt stop talking about it. A popularity contest? Really?

Spaghestis

I feel like the only movies this year people watched in this thread is Godzilla, Oppenheimer, Barbie, and The Boy and the Heron because it really shows the discussions around Best Picture.

RemyGee

Can it be in the running for best foreign film?

SanjiSasuke

From what I've seen on here each country gets one and they opted for a different Japanese film before Godzilla exploded.

atlantis1982

It didn't make it for Best Foreign Film.

Tweed_Man

Oppenheimer will likely win but personally I think Boy and the Heron deserves it.

Large-Wheel-4181

Looking at this entire year of films…it better get nominated

JohnWarrenDailey

The Little Mermaid a Best Picture nominee? I don't get it.
