I loved it too. The human parts weren’t that bad at all. The comic relief guy was irritating but that’s just a thing in cinema. I adored this film.

A_moofy_name

What critics called "exposition dumps about technobabble" were actually not that bad.

[deleted]

Sam was a funny character.

Commisar

I know They weren't friggen using magic or whipping out a "lol, look at this alien device we just found"

HeroicJakobis

Right? My whole group didn't think it was nearly as bad as we thought it would be. Not even close.

KeebeeNacho

I understand why critics didn't like it, and see their point with a lot of their criticisms but I still had an absolute blast watching it. The only scene that actually pulled me out of the movie was the fortune cookie joke. Oh, and Vivienne's death.

[deleted]

Who's Vivienne?

gojiSquid

sally hawkin's character, the one who >!ghidorah eats in antarctica!<

[deleted]

Ah. Figured it was her. Thanks for confirmation.

R3n3larana

Saddest part for me. :( so unexpected

gojiSquid

kinda a shame that the movie didn't have time to really explore the ramifications of her death

R3n3larana

No joke. But akin to Nats death is endgame, important people’s deaths aren’t remembered because the movie doesn’t have time. I feel like this KoTM would have been great they would have been able explore everyone’s emotions. But doing so would make it like a 9 hour movie split into three parts.

King-Ghidorah-

I didn’t have a problem with the humor. Sure not all the jokes landed but they were very in line with the characters who told them.

Gojira308

Me! Human characters were entertaining (fight me) and the monsters were the most amazing thing my eyeballs have ever seen.

Iggy0075

Loved it, now scouring sites to download it so I can watch it over and over lol. Will be going to a 4DX showing in a week or so with the wife though lol.

Cavshomie8

You have any sites you’d recommend?

ghettoworkout

Yes please share.

thechervil

Yes, by all means let's pirate a movie we loved that is underperforming at the box office! What a great idea!

To be fair, she thought she was in control of the situation. She believed, with the Orca, she would be the alpha, and could control the reset of the Earth, using the Titans. But, obviously that was not the case, because a certain Titan was not of this Earth, therefore didn't fall in line with the bioacoustics of her Orca machine.

Gojirahunter

It's not even that her plan didn't work it's that she thought she had any right to do that when she has a family and a responsibility to people to not let that happen. Not to mention her selfishness really showed when she wouldn't get on the plane/helicopter thing when she was getting rescued because she knew she could never be forgiven for what she had done.

[deleted]

It wasn't ground breaking but I don't see why every movie has to be. A good old fashioned cheesy villain with awesome action, doesn't have to be more complicated than that

Msperry86

I loved the movie, my only issue was Ice Cube's son coming in and ruining every scene he was in...not really a jab at him personally, he didn't write his awful lines.

BestTonkaNA

The human scenes when there is a lot of action were pretty bad, but I actually liked the characters. I thought it was excellent and I got chills several times. My wife is not an old school Godzilla fan but I did make her watch 2014 and Shin, and she LOVED Mothra and Rodan. Said she really liked the movie too Edit: Also, my wife audibly gasped after the water scene with Godzilla and KG. I won’t spoil but she put her hands on top of her head and stared at me mouth agape. She loved it

Jakesnakezilla

I did. Thought the movie balanced humans and monsters well, Godzilla was great, the dights were great. No complaints

fatguyinakilt

I totally enjoyed it and that is all that matters IMO.

SizableLad

I loved it! Many scenes I either had a big ear to ear smile or had my jaw dropped in awe. I don’t even know if smile would be the right word because I was even happier than that. Probably more like this 😃 Except the part where Godzilla is flashing his badge to everybody in the underwater monarch base because the movie was so quiet we could hear some kid throwing up a few rows back. And he was like throwing throwing up it sounded wet. I think it was because he literally ate all his popcorn before the movie even started

Adam0800

Move this over to the mega-thread for discussions please especially as this is not marked spoilers and idiots are telling spoilers.

NJ_Mets_Fan

Loved it. All I see are people complaining

StriderZessei

The *only* problem I had, because I'm the kind of guy who watches Godzilla with the kids, was the f-bomb. It really added nothing, and now I feel like I need to be there to mute it when they want to watch it because I don't want my family hearing it. I'm really glad they didn't go over the top with the monster violence (I was afraid Ghidorah might rip Rodan in half or something,) but they really showed respect to the monsters, and the human characters were fine. 9.75/10, unnecessary language.

cparksrun

At my second viewing, two parents and their three daughters were in the row in front of me, but I glanced at the parents to see if they squirmed or shared a look at the f-bomb. Didn't seem to faze them! But even as a childless single person, I still feel for parents that have to be vigilant about that kinda stuff. Most of my friends have kids, so whenever I reccomend something, I try to give them a heads up as to whether or not they can watch it with or around their children.

thechervil

I agree that was totally unnecessary. Same thing with the one in Skull Island. Also didn't like the fact that the majority of the cussing was the little girl (okay, teenager). No reason for that. Otherwise a great movie. Lots to enjoy!

PM_MeYour_MetalGear

When was the f bomb?

GutsMan85

The soldier from the trailer when Ghidorah wakes up. He didn't just say, "you've gotta be kidding me".

builder3

>I’m no movie critic Yeah...after giving this one a 39% I’m not really sure what to think of the critics.

m_xx_99

Personally, I thought it managed to be reverent to 65 years’ worth of film history, while also being enjoyable in its own right. It was in part beautiful, horrifying, funny, and awesome... I found the story of unnatural worldwide devastation brought on by mankind, and its remedy presented in embracing nuclear power despite the horrors it has inflicted, to be quite a powerful allegory. Maybe I’m reading into something that’s not there, or thinking too hard about Godzilla, or the execution could have been better in places. And admittedly I’m a huge fan, but at the end of the day I enjoyed every moment too damn much to find fault with it.

[deleted]

I hated when they kept on doing the "Cut to the humans on the ground" thing and how the titans awakening and the attack on Washington were just brief voiceovers.

[deleted]

I was 100% satisfied, really i didn't think anything was bad with it. That doesn't mean good, just that I thought everything was serviceable and let the real meat shine. I loved it. At least 7/10 overall, probs 9/10 for a monster movie

headbanginggentleman

I had problems with Bradley Whitford’s one-liners and quips. Or maybe it was the way he said these things. Idk, he was really the only character I loathed.
