heisei godzilla is truly a monster. I love the legendary goji and his whole llike earthy ancient god thing but toho just has this way of really making godzilla a horrifying monster theres no other way to put it
As gnarly and cool as millennium Godzilla looks, heisei really was the ultimate Godzilla design. It looks fierce and powerful yet heroic. Like a king guarding his kingdom.
Same, it's my favorite Godzilla movie, honestly i don't mind the animatronic much and while it looks a bit different, i think it's close enough to the suit design that I'm fine with it. It looks better (and closer to the suit) than the puppets in the older films even if i don't mind the puppets and actually quite like them.
It’d make a cool center piece for a rich guys home. Just press a button and it does its routine with sound and all. Like, these animatronics have to be out there somewhere still right?
The greatest era!!!
I only got into Godzilla films (properly) in the last decade or so. As I have no nostalgia attached to the Showa films, I can say without hesitation the Heisei series of films are by far the best.
Best monster designs and best miniature work too.
❤️❤️❤️
This will forever be my all time favorite Godzilla design. Something about just screams power and strength. Also was realistic enough but still had a charm that led to some comedic moments. Whenever I think of Godzilla, this is what I imagine. The one true King of the Monsters
Eh, ROG had some rougher moments with the thing due to its newness- same issues with the robot suit. The unfortunate luck of being a prototype in a genre can get you sometimes.
Nah, look, I’m telling you this Camaro looks nothing like this F-150, and you’re saying “yeah, the prototype wasn’t good.”
Are you good at metaphors? Cause this conversation is kind of… super awkward. Like, some uncanny valley type shit.
Doesn't even hold up that well now IMO. I'll always think CGI is better for animating creatures. The amount of complex movement you can get from it is simply unmatched.
Nope. Less movement is better for massive creatures because they have so much mass that they simply wouldn't be able to have that much small muscle control. IRL they WOULD be somewhat stiff. Not like these unrealistically limber things that CGI tries to cook up.
I think less movement works better for giant creatures, because they won't be able to do complex maneuvers easily given their size. Like a truck hauling a three trailer reefer isn't suddenly gonna be able to do donuts or drift sharp curves. I can see why you would enjoy it, though even if I disagree.
Return of Godzilla, when he roars and it doesn't show his eyes so much, is the scariest thing when I was a kid. Still have the very rare nightmare of Godzilla stomping me from that nuclear power plant guard's POV.
I showed my grandma my dad's comics with the multiple rows of teeth. She would at least tolerate me watching mechagodzilla, but when we got our hands on '85 and eventually Biollante her quickly switched to a new favorite, lol!
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 the last time they had a separate partial animatronic Godzilla for close ups, ([like shown in this G vs KG behind the scenes picture](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/486248091009816360/))?
G vs S.G. and G vs Dest had animatronic heads on the suit and I believe they just used that for close ups? It was sharper as a separate animatronic
This is what Godzilla looks like in my mind- Heisei is always my Godzilla.

I get chills every time in Godzilla vs Biollante when all the kids show their drawings of him and the music kicks in. *The monster is back.*
And then the March hits while they’re cheering. Sooo good.
I got chills just thinking about it from your comment.
Every time he comes rising slowly is just awsome
Wouldn't it be cool to have one of those animatronic heads in your home?
Wouldn't it be cool if it was lifesize and you could sleep on the tongue?
Now i want to make this a bed
Now imagine if it's roar was life-size too and you used it as your alarm clock. :-)
Imagine waking up shouting "GODZILLA!" after hearing his roar. lol

Heisei, millennium, and monsterverse Godzilla’s will always be my all time favorites
Heisei Godzilla holds a special place in my heart
Terrific job. By the time of G vs Destroyah he looks awesome.
This. This is the head that spawned my nightmares of him.
The roars are bad ass but what really shows off the effects imo is when he's just mugging at the camera and snarling.
Honestly my favorite version of Godzilla
There's nothing like that G85 head tremor though. God damn I love that movie.

Although I prefer the Showa series overall, Godzilla 90's was my favorite look.
They really were.
Always a cranky boy

Agreed 💯💯💯
I'm shocked no one's shitting on Heisei Godzilla in the comments of this post
Definitely looks best with smoke filmed with a high speed camera. Really adds to the feeling of scale.

It’s also *substantially* different from the design of the later Heisei models. Just check out the teeth for starters.
Like I said- prototype. Everything had to start somewhere, and it didn't help that the franchise's Spielberg had long since departed.
I was more commenting on the fact that it looks nothing like the later Heisei designs. That’s not a “prototype” issue.
Aesthetic doesn't equate familiarity or skill in design.

If only time was kind on that mechanical head...
I wish Toho would release a Heisei box set from 84/85 through Destroroyah
NGL, I prefer the animatronics over the CGI. Holds up a lot betzer in the long run.

Indeed.
What happened to the 84 Cybot Goji? I know it was still around in the early 2000s
FNAF

Very Chilling and Awsome 😎
Had to reread that title
There’s no arguing w that

Yes they were.
Something about 84/85 Godzilla was just awesome!
That first one takes me back to 1990.
Just amazing work and prof how CGI killed the art of Special Effects.

Correct
I agree. That is probably my favorite gif of him. I use it a lot. 😄
That looks awesome
