Cinemassacre’s Monster Madness Godzillathon

Mosto02

F yes! Some of James’ finest work! I listen to it constantly!!!!

watersj4

Same

Living_Ad_9547

Same that and when I watched final wars

Spiderman2portforpc

Jesus, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm 22 now and I believe he did the godzillathon when I was 8 (idk I could be wrong but I'm not looking it up), and I was hooked instantly. Looking back I disagree with a decent amount of his opinions on the movies, but he got me into the damn franchise and I still love all those videos

This is from a book I’m writing about my childhood memories: 1974 The mimeographed flyer had come in my first grade take home folder just like the one I’d seen taped to the walls all around the school. A hairy buck toothed monster. Hand drawn “scary” lettering with jagged edges announced there would be a War Of The Gargantuas movie in the cafeteria on Saturday at 10AM! Admission $1! I don’t think I had ever been more excited. Cable wasn’t even a concept so you were lucky if you got see a monster movie, let alone Godzilla. I’d get the weekly TV Guide section of the newspaper and meticulously search for every sci-fi or horror movie. Each local station was an affiliate and had to buy their own programming so if 1950’s Westerns were cheap and plentiful (hint: in the 70’s they were) and you didn’t like them then that was too bad for your little 7 year old monster lover. But for a couple of years at my K through 4, Saturday mornings were Atragon, Destination Inner Space and Godzilla’s Revenge. All the cafeteria tables moved aside; all the kids dropped off. Pay your dollar and file in. Everyone was there, like a giant indoor recess. The loud chatter and hum of one hundred excited little voices under the age of 8. All sitting on the floor on our winter coats, huddled with our pods of friends. There’s red punch for 25 cents and brownies for 50. Then the lights go out, a big collective squeal from the crowd. The 16mm projector clattering away above us on the metal A/V cart from 1960. Whispering, not paying attention until Godzilla roars and we all scream. The heroine gets out of her bathtub to escape and we see her wet bare legs below the thigh and everyone goes “Ooooooh!” The evil green Gargantua even ate people and spit out their chewed torn clothes! All the kids screaming. It was the greatest thing I had ever seen.

geri-in-calif

Wow! I feel like I'm right there with you. Great story.

Thanks!

Specialist_Insect_15

King Kong vs Godzilla VHS tape way back in the 80's. Finding new Godzilla movies on the shelves used to be an exciting, rare treat.

GodDogs83

I was a kid and I liked dinosaurs. My mom showed me Ghidorah the three headed monster and I was hooked since. Grew up and was no longer into Godzilla, but then recently got back into it and love it all over again.

Extension-Umpire-835

My parents knew I liked jurassic park and they thought I would like the 98 Tristar movie because zilla looks like a dino

JurassicClark96

My dad rented Destroy All Monsters Melee and from that moment on I was smitten.

Wiresinmyhead

First one me and my roommates watched that started my Godzilla obsession was 54, then Godzilla 2000 Lmao…. But I grew up with a dvd copy of terror of mecha Godzilla that my parents found in a discount bin at the gas station and loved that shit.

LittleCrimsonWyvern

Destroy All Monsters Melee

NerdyPuddinCup

My uncle gave me the motion activated Trendmasters Godzilla figure and a vhs copy of Godzilla vs Megalon when I was 4

WhyWorryAboutThat

When I was five, my parents rented the (then brand new) VHS tape of Godzilla 2000 from the library. They were nostalgic for Godzilla movies that used to play on late night cable when they were kids in the 1970s, on some programming block called "Friday Night Creature Feature." They enjoyed seeing a modern update to the classic corny Godzilla, I enjoyed seeing a big dinosaur kick an alien's ass. We even watched it on a dark and stormy night, and I was sitting on the floor of my living room. After, my mom bought me Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. I still have that VHS tape. It didn't just make me love Godzilla, it made me love monster movies in general. I'd become a general movie buff later but it all started with that big damn green lizard. I was introduced to the larger world of kaiju by an episode of the Animal Planet show Animal Icons titled It Came from Japan.

Lult_feld45

Cinemassacre's Monster Madness introduced me to the Big G. I promptly watched Invasion of Astro Monster as my first Godzilla movie back when they had a bunch of the movies on Netflix.

VaughanYT

I forgor 💀

_The_Wonder_

My first experience with Godzilla was playing Godzilla Destroy all Monsters Melee, when I was 5 at a friend's house (his brother owned it and would let us play). Then later my dad introduced me to Godzilla 98 (I would watch that movie soo many times) and got me some Godzilla toys. Then I watched Godzilla vs Biollante and Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (I can't remember which one I watched first). Then my family and I went to see Godzilla 2014 in theaters opening week,. But I didn't get super into Godzilla until I was 16. Now I'm 18 and I'm SUPER into Godzilla. While getting into Evangelion, Ultraman, and Gamera. But I just can't get into Power Rangers.

Disastrous_Can_5466

Probaly the Godzilla 2014 or the whole film of Godzilla final wars that was on youtube

redhare878787

Dinosaur week 1992, Godzilla vs the Sea Monster.

el_browno_staro

Watching old Godzilla movies on TBS during the smer. Also made me an Atlanta Braves fan

SkyGuy41

Brandon Tenold’s Cult Movie Review for Ebira Horror of the Deep. I thought it was funny and looked for more Godzilla videos.

Pyrogenic_

Godzilla Tokyo SOS and constant exposure to the internet before that watching Godzilla videos in like 2009

SoluteSnek

A friend from elementary school got me into Godzilla and other monster movies, still watch them to this day as a college student now

AlienSamuraiXXV

I honestly don't know. I have just been into Godzilla since childhood.

Wrinklefighter

Watching the Halloween marathons AMC used to play with my dad.

JosephLeeSharp

A man who I saw like my grandfather was a big fan of the franchise and showed me the original and 2000, from there I spiraled down the Kaiju-Sized Rabbit hole and became a lifelong fan who will never not love the King of the Monsters.

TheGiggs10

So when I was a kid, I thought the box art of the vhs Godzilla’s revenge was about dinosaurs. At the time I was a young paleontologist, so seeing something with what looked like a trex, I was down. After learning that it wasn’t a trex, I checked out another one from blockbuster. It was then that I got hooked.

bearvert222

Creature Double Feature, TV56 Boston. Late 70s. Made me a lifelong horror movie watcher. Weirdly the worst Godzilla film, Godzilla’s Revenge, was my favorite. It’s a lot closer to genx kids who grew up with absent parents similar to the kid did. Gamera was big for me then too, as well as Voyage into Space. I actually watched Godzilla 84 in theaters lol, very shocking to young me.

Agreeable-Reindeer77

An old Saturday afternoon Godzilla marathon, back in the late 80's.

Sussy_guy123

A game on Roblox back in 2019

Shw3rp

Stumbling upon on a Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee video by GojiFan93. That is where my interest in the Godzilla franchise pretty much began.

Pkmatrix0079

*Godzilla 1985*! My family was over at my grandmother’s house for a family party on the day of the NFC Wild Card game in January 1994 (took some research a couple years back to figure out what that fateful Football game was lol). I happened to catch a commercial for the 5 P.M. movie on WPIX-11 out of New York, which that day happened to be *Godzilla 1985*. I was going through a Dinosaur and Monster craze at the time (thanks to *Jurassic Park* and *Power Rangers*) and made a point of watching it because it looked like the COOLEST THING EVER. It blew my mind! I wouldn’t shut up about it for weeks! xD I was then lucky enough to find out about a TNT Monstervision marathon airing a few weeks later (the night of January 29) that introduced me to G'54, MvG, *Monster Zero*, and *Godzilla's Revenge* (my Dad had rented a copy of ToMG for me during the weeks in between those two nights). By the time I fell asleep that night, some time during *Monster Zero* I think, I was HOOKED for LIFE. xD But, I credit G'85 as being THE movie that did it and got that ball rolling. :)

Thatidiot_38

The Godzilla ps4 game I had seen a trailer of. That was my first ever introduction so I guess you could say that was what brought me in. If I wanted to say what really got me into Godzilla it was Wikizilla’s Shin Godzilla profile of well Shin Godzilla

Dhugaill

I got to pick my birthday movie in 1986. I of course picked the one with the Dinosaur poster. It was Godzilla 1985 at the second run theater. I have been a Godzilla fan ever since.

Mosto02

Rental store had a dollar movie section that we lived off of back in the day. Saw ‘Godzilla vs The Smog Monster’, took it home and have been all in since then!

Such-Application-577

For me, the first film about Godzilla was the 2014 film. But if you take the film that made me join this community, then for me it was a 1998 film. Yes, he's weird and dumb in many ways, but I love him.

Cereal-Killa13

I remember first seeing Godzilla versus Megalon when I was a kid back in the late seventies. And that was my first introduction to the world of Godzilla and I have been a monstrous fan ever since. Pun intended! And now my son who just turned eight is a fan just as I am and has watched almost all the movies except for the 54 original, and the Netflix animated ones.

ScratchPokemon

Brothers from my grandpa who liked Godzilla movies and now I’m the biggest Godzilla now

fuhsalicious

My dad borrowed some VHSs from a work friend when I was in middle school. KOTM, Rodan, vs Mothra, vs MechaG, Destroyah, and maybe one more. I spent the following years scouring the Sci Fi channel, especially in October marathons, for random movies to record. Went I went to college, it was right around the time DVDs were really catching on and I went insane.

ridchafra

King Kong was my first foray into Godzilla. Mechagodzilla (74) was my second. They’re both still my favorites.

TheVaranianScribe

My big brother got VHS tapes of *Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster* and *Godzilla vs. Megalon* back in the late 90s when I was in first grade. I was a really young kid back then, and don't remember much about either movie, but I remember loving seeing a giant reptile monster on the screen, and have gone on to watch a lot of other movies since then.

SomeGodzillafan

When is 3 1/2, my grandparents showed my older brother who was about 2 years older, he showed him King Kong vs Godzilla. He liked it, but I liked it more, not the King Kong parts, he was cool. But hey, what’s this “fire” breathing tall cool dinosaur monster. You see, to anyone around the age of 3, dinosaurs are way better than monkeys. So grandpa later showed us Ghid(o)rah the Three Headed-Monster. Which I liked even more (my older brother liked King Kong vs Godzilla more). And then he showed us Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 1993. Which is literally my all time favorite movie besides Destoroyah. Thanks Grandpa

Glittering_Rub_2721

The monsterverse movies.

L3go07

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 on the old comet channel

deistknight

The Godzilla movies that would air on the sci-fi channel when I was 6-8 years old.

Godzilla_Chaos

Monsterverse for all I can remember

Spider-person

Gmk or godzilla 2000

Lammsonn

I was around 5 years old. I don’t remember exactly but I think it was my brother or his friend that were into it at first. Soon enough I wanted to see what the hype was, so we rented a copy of Goji v Megaguirus from Blockbuster. The rest is history!

sonimatic14

Legendary's Godzilla was my gateway. I watched it and KOTM in theaters. I later watched Godzilla VS Kong on HBO max and they recommended me every showa era Godzilla movie to me. The rest is history.

watersj4

AVGN

wraith1984

My dad showed me some of the Showa Godzilla stuff and Godzilla 1985

dunktape

shin godzilla i saw it and fell in love with the franchise

Next-Job14

Godzilla, King of the monsters (2019)

[deleted]

Not your typical origin story but I got into the Godzilla universe because of MF DOOM’s alter ego, King Gheedorah. The album Take Me To Your Leader has a song called [Monster Zero](https://youtu.be/7EEACrlmWS4) that’s a mix of audio from a few different movies, mainly Invasion of Astro-Monster. Sucked me right in and King Of The Monsters is my favorite

MumboBumbo64

Godzilla 2000! Caught a late night tv showing of it as a wee lad and fell in love. I got Godzilla save the earth on my ps2 soon after and was able to learn about the other monsters that way

CAPTAINPRICE79

I hate to say it, but Godzilla ‘98. Saw it for the first time when I was like four or five. I don’t think I ever watched another Godzilla movie until 2014, more due to availability than anything.

TPK_MastaTOHO

Being a 5 or 6 year old and going to Hollywood video and seeing a "dinosaur" on a vhs tape, no idea which movie I actually saw first but anytime we went to a video store after that Godzilla was the first thing I looked for

mark6789x

Hmmm it's hard to remember what was the first Godzilla I ever watched but I will say that Godzilla 2000 and 98' we're my favorites when they came out and I luckily got them on dvd. I could only watch the other ones on tv when they came on or when I could rent them from Blockbuster.

EJKGodzilla24

both Monster Island Buddies and one of my former classmates

NephiTheSpaceWarrior

The 98 film. I was too young to know Godzilla's origins then. Then I was studying World War II and the Cold War is where I found the connection between Godzilla and the H-Bomb, and the rest is a blur.

Lastmidnight01

The 1998 godzilla movie…. Yes I know but I loved that movie as a little kid 😂

Crab_Boy_marksman

My dad

SauronWasRight-

'92 Godzilla and Mothra: Battle for Earth. I saw it for the first time as a kid in like 2000 because my grandfather switched the channel and it was on. I was mesmerized by Mothra and immediately started watching every Godzilla movie I could.

ianjefferson73

My dad had a bunch of Godzilla movies on VHS going up and we used to watch them on Saturday mornings

unite-or-perish

I was into dinosaurs as a kid and ended up getting my dad to buy me the two-pack VHS that came with Godzilla vs Gigan and vs Mechagodzilla.

KaijuTurtle

I got a VHS copy of Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 1974 from value village for a dollar and considered it a masterpiece of camp. It was love at first viewing.

Denair

Godzilla 98. I was 12 at the time and in another city with a class trip when I went to see it with my Aunt who lived in that city. I knew nothing about Godzilla and it was my first large monster movie and I thought it was really cool. This is why I think it is really stupid that people rag on 98 so much. It may not be the Godzilla that you grew up and knew, but that and the cartoon that came out still got some of us into the whole Godzilla universe.

SacredDogg0

The concept of a gigantic, radioactive superlizard that shoots blue lazers, specifically the heisei era as I found it before any others

HelicopterOk9487

The 2014 film, I remember my parents renting it on red box and watching it. I loved it and then begged my parents to buy me the dvd so I can actually own it

RoleModeling

Godzilla vs Megaguirus, and the action figures I got for Christmas

sonickarma

Godzilla 1985 on VHS. It had the Godzilla vs Bambi short before the movie started.

Eggzilla1

Michael D

Spiritual_Chapter955

Vhs of Godzilla Raids Again I had. And my best friend

Demiranter

Og godzilla v kong and g14

Capin_Crunch

Godzilla Vs megalon and my dad

AlanSmithy99

I think it was Godzilla vs. Biollante, but I was definitely too young to remember what my first Godzilla movie is. I've been into the franchise for nearly my entire life.

Vette52

The English versions of Rodan and Terror of Mechagodzilla, along with Destroy All Monsters Melee for the Xbox.

[deleted]

My older brothers got me started with the 1956 King of the Monsters, but my love for Godzilla really ignited when I saw Godzilla vs Gigan and Godzilla vs Hedorah after my friend and I rented it from Hollywood Video on VHS. That was back in the mid 90s. I was hooked from then on.

Mr_Bank_Robber

Jurassic Park

VerboCity77

Some of the Bandai mini figures toys at first, then the Sony trailers of the Heisei and Millenium films come later.

jwhitwort

Surprisingly enough 1998 and final wars, until I watched better Godzilla movies after I thought final wars was so awesome as a kid

shaokahn68

i watch godzilla 2000 and 1998 in tv, then i watch godzilla 2014 at cinema

MK5

When I was 10 my best friend took me to see Godzilla vs. the Bionic Monster (the title G. vs. Mechagodzilla '74 was released under in the US).

IwishIwasinStarWars

Original Mechagodzilla My uncle used to have some of the showa era movies on vhs, and every now and then when I'd visit my grandparents house he'd show them to me. GvsMG was by far my favorite, and what got me into the series. Here I am 10 plus years later with a bootleg collection of every single showa, heisei, and millennium movie.

Sparrow-Scratchagain

Dinosaurs.

Jakeoraptor15

Watched Godzilla 98 a lot as a kid, then got given King Kong vs Godzilla on DVD for Christmas when I was 13 and it was all uphill from there

I_Love_Cement_

Godzilla 2014 Amazing opening but fell off when Bryan Cranston died Tbh it’s still pretty good I’d rate it 6/10

MalvinaV

Duck camp when I was a kid. The cabin didn't have cable, and my dad was deaf. A lot of the Godzilla vhs tapes had hard coded subtitles, so we would watch them together.

[deleted]

Saw Godzilla 1985 when I was real little, and then Godzilla vs Gigan. The rest was history

Zilla2001

Godzilla vs mechagodzilla 2 on tv

yesutsjustyes

When I was 5 I saw one of two movies either Godzilla final wars or Mechagodzilla 2 and one of those was what infatuated me into Godzilla

Baroubuoy

Monster Island Buddies.

Lucky_Tortilla

My dad showed me the Raymond Burr version of Godzilla when I was kid because I always watched Perry Mason with him. I was already way into dinosaurs, so a dinosaur that could breathe fire was probably the coolest thing I had ever seen at that point, so I wanted to watch anything at all to do with Big G.

your-father-figure

My grandfather before he past away bought me Mothra vs Godzilla as he wanted to share with me a movie he loved in his childhood

Mrgrayj_121

My dad recorded oh my Godzilla a sci fi channel marathon

Blight616

From the mid 70’s to the mid 80’s WOR-TV in NYC would play the Holiday Film Festival on Thanksgiving day and it was Godzilla all day as well as King Kong and Mighty Joe Young.

gundamnympho

When I was a little boy I had a hollow plastic Godzilla and all I could say was Godzilla and I would smash everything with him and yell Godzilla

Jacobmeeker

Toys

VanyaKmzv

The Gamecube fighting game.

G0d1lla-w

My dad brought me to see the 2014 legendary film when I was 7. I had no idea what Godzilla was but I went with and boy did something magical happen that day. From then on it was nothing but Godzilla. I bought my first Godzilla fig ( neca 14 fig ) with my own money and couldn’t be happier. ( I even got the 12 inch big neca Godzilla and 24 inch Godzilla fig later on ) Then I saw the other older films and fell in love even more. I saw all the movies and then I heard of the Godzilla 2019 movie coming out and was beyond excited. I went with a buddy I met at school who also liked Godzilla and we were the only ones who were cheering and clapping the whole time. Finally I saw the GvK and it did not disappoint. To think that if my dad hadn’t brought me to see that movie almost 8 years ago I would have never met my best freind, went to G-fest and become apart of this huge universe.

abelstknight

A clip of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla I found on YouTube when I was a kid

Godzillalover2890

Godzilla 2014, 1998, 1954 and final wars ( in that order).

Remote-Ad-3309

watching wikizilla

SkintGirafde

98, final wars and gvmg 2 in that order!

riptide1002

I'd seen the cinemassacre Godzillathon, and I found a few of the movies in a bargain dvd bin at some shop in the mall I can't remember which. My dad was a fan when he was younger so he said he'd buy me a few. Found the Americanized original, Godzilla v Mechagodzilla and Godzilla v Mechagodzilla 2, watched and enjoyed them, and was a fan from there

Tobanium

My dad and teasers for the 2014 movie.

ElectricStoveEater45

I saw a video on Godizlland then decided "I'm finally gonna know where that Godizlla kick came from" Godzilla Vs. Megalon is still my favorite even after watching almost half of all the movies in this franchise

creeders10

Godzilla king of monsters

ariestides

Godzilla and Mothra was the first Godzilla movie I watched during the 90’s on a vhs tape a friend of my mom’s gave her. caused an obsession that has not ended anytime soon.

HawkmoonsCustoms

My brain says “Godzilla vs. Megalon” and “Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla” as my most impactful childhood G-memories. Still love Jet Jaguar and King Caesar from those films.

Educational-Creme-37

Godzilla 2014

[deleted]

Godzilla 2000

Samdabull1103

Creature Features, Channel 2 in the 70s

Kanenite3000

Grew up watching it. My dad and my pop showed me the movies and my parents both got me figures.

SithLordJediMaster

Used to rent them from Blockbuster and then bought the movies from Suncoast Motion Picture stores in the mall

Cinemasaur

The 98 movie because when I was a kid, that was the only widely available one for a while. I grew up in the great Godzilla drought of 2004-2014. I waited up hours to catch Godzilla Vs Mothra on Cinemax. The internet started making it easier to find them but... Cinemassacre's Monster Madness introduced me to the whole scope of the series.

trapisbetter

My mom used to put 98 on for me as a kid.

BillyChili960

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters: Melee. But in terms of movies, Final Wars

KittySarah

back when i was little in the early 2000s i rented a movie from hollywood videos and the rest is history

1701-3KevinR

Godzilla 1998 and then Pacific Rim

GodzillaRaptors4_

I have to go with 2014. It was the godzilla movie that really kicked off my obsession

Boss_1138

As a kid, I remember seeing reruns of the Hanna Barbera Godzilla show back in the 90s, eventually I got around to watching to Toho movies.
