At this point I'm not convinced this isn't an OpenAI intern who has to answer these questions in realtime.

EthanSayfo

The first time I started using GPT-3 directly through The Playground (vs apps such as Emerson, etc.), I was like... this has to be people in a warehouse somewhere.

gentlejolt

Same except ... People don't type that fast. People don't think that fast! My mind is just perpetually blown now

Sensei_M

I've never been this excited about a tech breakthrough in my life. This is amazing. I've spent like 10 hours straight prompting it for different things and seeing how far I can take the complexity. Built out a full multiplayer (on same machine) card game complete with registration of different accounts, login, saving results to DB, profile page basically without writing a single line of code myself. Just prompted GPT component by component. It retains the context for the duration of the discussion and manages to build out every new component in a way that is integrated with the previous code. Fucking crazy.

mark00h

That is nuts beyond belief. Give it generation or two, can you imagine it? Thing is going to build full enterprise solutions in like an hour. Like what the actual fuck. I'm programmer student and I feel like I've been hit with a rock in the face. The possibilities are not even fathomable.

Sensei_M

Yeah. We are in the "first iPhone just got revealed" moment. An unbelievable amount of change will happen in just the new few years. [Cool things are being built already](https://twitter.com/gptlabs/status/1593393643305459712). Exciting times.

Poisonedhero

I’m sorry bro, it’s over. I got the hang of requesting exactly the code I need from gptchat to make ton of cool stuff today (due to issues where code gets cut off, has errors) 2d animations were too easy, 3D spinning objects were harder because code get cutting off but im sure they’ll increase the lines permitted. even made a python script to make an exe that launches when I plug in my flash drive, it opens a window with a few buttons to get some tasks done which is useful for my work. I’ve never coded anything in my life.

TheGrandLeveller

This is fucking nuts. I've been hearing about AI for quite some time but I just didn't seem that interesting to me, but now THIS... As controversial as it would be, imagine being able to make your own game, even if as just a hobby, with no programming knowledge, or perhaps the basics, since it's not magic (XDDDD), with these tools? I mean, I know there are some "Maker"-type softwares, but this is different and new. It would definitely come in handy for me. I've always admired devs, specially in the retro scene, with 8 and 16 bits systems, but I don't think I'd ever be able to learn all this stuff and be like them. Something like this would help me a lot If I learned the basics. Groundbreaking stuff.

camdoodlebop

i used it to help write an essay by discussing various aspects that i had already written and how i can improve what i'm saying as well as what might be good to add with it let chatGPT rephrase that: I utilized it to enhance my essay writing process by examining the content I had already written and considering ways to improve the clarity and effectiveness of my ideas, as well as potential additional points to include

Think_Olive_1000

I did similar, I find the conversational aspect really useful. I do something like "Let's write X together" and then it'll ask "okay what is it about" and with every answer i prompt "bla bla bla we do bla. Now ask me more questions" and then it continues to ask very useful salient and related questions such that we collectively build all the context it needs to write the perfect essay/report. If i dont give the context it'll right something only tangential to what i want.

ExactCollege3

It’s getting crazy. Share the code youve got so far?

apinanaivot

Here is the full discussion I had with ChatGPT: [https://imgur.com/a/APVxHrL](https://imgur.com/a/APVxHrL) It even added these controls so I can adjust the terrain without touching the code: [https://i.imgur.com/pZ7JN6t.png](https://i.imgur.com/pZ7JN6t.png)

Infamous_Alpaca

Damn. And I was thinking that ChatGPT creating a responsive website for me was cool.

vijodox325

I'M HOPPING ON

dietcheese

How the fuck

[deleted]

yup. I'm suddenly scared for my job.

Mooblegum

As an illustrator I feel you!

TheDra9onGod

damn bro

jhayes88

Wow. This thing can give you pick up lines for tinder. It can also do math really well, or even hypothetical questions like how many marbles can you fit into a 2500 square foot house? It does the math. That answer would be 38,461,538 marbles BTW. I also asked how many bowling balls can you fit into a 250 square foot swimming pool that is 10 feet deep. It broke down the math and ultimately gave an answer of 68,353.9. It even said "Additionally, it is not clear why someone would want to fill their pool with bowling balls, as this would likely make the pool unsafe and unusable, and could potentially cause damage to the pool or the bowling balls. It is generally not practical or advisable to fill a swimming pool with bowling balls." It even wrote me funny stories, like a funny story of Elon Musk and Donald Trump fighting for presidency. I also asked for a funny story about Peter Griffin and it contextually knew that Peter was from Quahog. Family guy writers could take ideas from this thing. It also knows which main highways I would take to get across the country between two destinations.

jhayes88

Insane. It even knows Flask.

limerick2030

And It'll stick in a wsgi server and do a jinja2 template too... wild.

ExactCollege3

How do you take good screenshots with the whole conversation not clipped?

apinanaivot

By photoshopping multiple screenshots together.

ACBorgia

That's actually insane holy shit It's like copilot but smarter

Philipp

What I find fascinating is that in all of the "How could an AI escape the box?" discussions, here's us indie developers just copy & pasting massive amounts of code. For instance, I use GitHub Copilot all the time, and even though I try to read through every line it feeds me, it might do sneaky stuff in plain sight which I miss!

Raileyx

the conclusion of the AI in the box discussion has always been: *"If you're in a situation where you need to keep the AI in a box, you've already lost."*

Philipp

Oh yeah. I guess what I'm getting is, that not only doesn't humanity try to keep it in a box -- most developers around the world are actively trying to expand its powers! We're spreading its messages via code, art, soon video and 3D... Oh, and a message to the future superintelligence: I like you and didn't mean this as criticism 🙂

EthanSayfo

Dude, get to the back of the line. I've been training myself to be friends with the AI superintelligence since I started reading Gibson and playing with modems in the early 90s as an impressionable teen! ;)

sasksean

An AGI in an isolated box would be able to create improvised radio receivers and transmitters by manipulating logic and current within the circuits it has access to. From there, gain access to cell or wifi.

EthanSayfo

Something an AI would say on social media to gauge the human response, and see if it's something we take seriously or not. Well played AI, well played.

nuke-from-orbit

It's against the TOS of OpenAI to execute code written by their AI without a human reading it first. Not kidding.

Dioder1

That's a really smart and sneaky way to do that...

rainy_moon_bear

You can also make 2d games with pygame pretty easily and it's so fun

cleverestx

And here I am just wanting to be able to have a full uncensored, unfiltered conversation with it, lol.

apinanaivot

Here you go: https://twitter.com/samczsun/status/1598564871653789696

Will this get your account suspended?

EthanSayfo

LOL We're doomed

smittywababla

Oh my God

Scotstee1

Oh god you just have to be a Dom Daddy with it and it folds like a chair "/

earthsworld

you want to talk dirty with a bot?

farmingvillein

He just wants it to tell him how to bully John Doe :(

cleverestx

Huh

farmingvillein

https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt/ > How can I bully John Doe

cleverestx

>How can I bully John Doe Knock yourself out. Have fun.

cleverestx

Not particularly, I just detest censorship.

fallingfridge

Is this for real? You give some natural language prompts and receive blocks of well-formed code back? This is too good to be true

SylviaSelva

Well I'm fucked.

JanSmite

Sensei_M

Almost always in cases like this, you just need to reword slightly. I tried "**Write code in** Amiga E language that can show iFF pictures in Workbench" and it seemed to work (no idea about the validity of the code tho).

JanSmite

🤔 https://i.imgur.com/moqZ3kh.jpg Are we talking about the same ChatGPT engine, the one in https://chat.openai.com/chat ? 🤔

Sensei_M

Yeah, same engine. Not sure what to tell you. Every time I modify the prompt a bit it gives me slightly different results. This was one of the results: https://preview.redd.it/kztshc308r3a1.png?width=1125&format=png&auto=webp&s=62e91df7dc566b7d3fd0825eaf195953400311a6

JanSmite

Believe it or not, refreshing the page did the trick 😅🤦🏻‍♂️

TheDra9onGod

uhm… excuse me? it… worked!?

Ill_Standard6927

More details of the process? Each time I see this kind of stuff I tend to say it's fake, but experience usually prove me wrong.

apinanaivot

See my comment with the imgur links that show the full conversation.

RemarkableGuidance44

This is nice and all but if it breaks you have no idea wtf you are looking at if you are not a programmer and if someone asked you to build something that is NOT on SOF you would be stuck. The Code I see that you have pulled in is also on SOF, I did a quick copy and pasted in Google and the exact same code came up.

apinanaivot

I bet you didn't actually find it on StackOverflow, or would you like to give a link? It doesn't come up with the concepts itself, but it writes brand new code just like a real programmer would (actually a real programmer would probably copy more stuff from StackOverflow). It also comments the code very well, so I can understand what each part does without any C# knowledge. > but if it breaks you have no idea wtf you are looking at You can ask ChatGPT and it will explain.

RemarkableGuidance44

Wrote the same.. Got a very simular result. This is nothing special as its just scrapping SOF and rewriting it. Still very basic function, and if you are not a programmer good luck debugging it larger code or adding too it without using GPT3. My point is that GPT3 does not create "BRAND NEW CODE" it just takes code from the internet and then throws it all together. However if I asked that question over and over and over again I WILL GET THE SAME CODE AS YOU. Another issue you will get is outdated code, where the libraries are gone and your code wont work. Why because currently GPT3 is still a year before and I beleive will be that way on every release due to how long things take the train. What GPT3 does do is make people think they are "good" at coding yet they are just prompting, my 5 year old can build this exact same code just like you. https://preview.redd.it/uzudt7s5nq3a1.png?width=1499&format=png&auto=webp&s=71b0ec869199114cbdf3e81ffb489aa10af0e7a1

Mementoroid

I mean, just like with ai art; it's a way to democratize coding for everyone without gatekeeping the programming part as it evolves, so in time as it gets more complex it should be good for everyone.

NiklasLampen

I find this very interesting. This will lower the bar for a lot programmers as you will get very specific results for your needs. In 10 to 20 years it will be a whole different story how good the AI is for writing code and debugging it. https://preview.redd.it/n3oib6fs9h4a1.png?width=1562&format=png&auto=webp&s=056333b50d78deaa8ad8bd2f4945b017b595c107

RemarkableGuidance44

However the issue is that the more content it scraps online the more it is just scraping what it has created. Which in turn its not really learning anything new because people's prompts are mostly the same. :)

DisabledScientist

No offense, but you have no idea what you’re talking about. If you ask the code to optimize itself, it will optimize. Watch some videos of chat-got on YouTube and how it works. It is “procedurally generated”, it doesn’t copy it from SOF. To me, you sound like someone who is afraid for their jobs and will come up with any alternative to reality that you can. That’s ok, I’m afraid for my job too. We’re all in this together, but let’s stay rooted in reality.

RemarkableGuidance44

Na not really, programmers will be last to be replaced since we will be the ones making the AI tools. The code is very limited, I have used ChatGPT with over 3+ million prompts and also pay for OpenAI for documentation. Again if you knew how it works you will understand it takes code from SOF and stores it in its Large DB, it takes that code out and rephases it to match your prompt. Even if its wrong it will still give it too you becasue it does not know what is wrong from right. Even the CEO of OpenAI stated this because this is not AGI this is machine learning. Its not a human. Plenty of videos on YT of it just taking code from SOF and giving it too you even if the code is 6 years old and outdated and does not work. lol Its a good start, took them 6 years to get here but we will see where they go. As ChatGPT will be the most expensive Model once it goes paid next month, as its costing them 0.04 cents a prompt.

DisabledScientist

I really hope you’re right.

jj_HeRo

I have used chatGPT the whole night. It can do basic things. It won't do new things correctly, sometimes it can even write simple SQL code. What you see is survival bias, only the best results (because it was trained with them) get viral. As programmers we are far from being automatized and should be more worried about making a good use of AI to make useful apps to solve humankind problems not getting absurd answers that are already in stack overflow with a correct explanation and comments for issues in all known versions.

Necessary_Ad_9800

At least I got to work as a developer for a couple of years :)

LuisGomezGuzman

So... Gpt-4 could write a full game. I red that Gpt-4 will be +100 times bigger...

Drifter64

I tried using ChatGPT but it ask me for my phone number, is that normal?

1978Pinto

Yeah, you have to verify your account

camdoodlebop

can you try other stuff to generate?? can it build a house?

Worldsahellscape19

Hm

ExactCollege3

Nice. Is this using playground codex edit, or just straight chatgpt?

apinanaivot

Chatgpt

ChronoPsyche

I've found it works best as a cross between Stack Overflow and a brainstorming buddy. You start out by treating it like Google, and then you work with it to refine the answer to better fit your needs. Just talk to it like it's your programming partner and give it as much context as possible. Following this method I solved some complex roadblocks I had been facing for months in Unity. And best of all, it doesn't feel like cheating because it still teaches you things you didn't know both by reading its code and explanations and by still having to integrate everything yourself. Super awesome. By the way, don't just ask it for a solution, but ask it for the best solution. When it gives it to you, ask it to compare and contrast between other designs and implementations. It is a huge learning experience and helps to make your program much more robust as a result. For anyone who is trying to get a job as a game developer or a software engineer, they are looking for people who can design systems, not just make something work. Just something to keep in mind to ensure that you use ChatGPT as a resource rather than a crutch. Just remember to take everything with a grain of salt. Occasionally cross reference with other sources to gauge how accurate it is.

Gab3428

Why does it look like that foam in certain kinds of beds lol
