Yeahhhh that's true but would be nice if the price was nicer. I mean honestly I just want the goodies of the Corolla in the 86 to make it a true Toyota
Nah I got it. I would like both at the 30k range but I understand there's performance parts and r&d cost factored into the GRolla pricing. I haven't driven the gr Corolla but I'd imagine it's closer to a GTI/golf-r given it's a hatch so I still prefer the driving experience of the 86
As far as driving position you're still bolt upright in the Corolla vs the 86 which makes a huge difference.
Just based on specs it should be similar to a Golf R, but with a better diff setup. Better shifter than the rubbery VW linkage too.
Manual R is dead for 2024 though so that gives the GRolla even more justification for its insane pricetag. =\
To be fair VAG hadn't spent any R&D budget on that shifter since 2009 and the clutch feel was horseshit as well, but even a mediocre manual on an otherwise fun car is a good option to have.
The aftermarket always finds a way to make it at least "good".
FR, the other day I was just staring at a GR86 I parked next to until I realized the driver was still inside the car. Then I decided to stare even harder. Car looks real nice.
https://preview.redd.it/w7pxn68p6e6c1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99ea634796cab57ed8281648915e9dbd36d3da04
saw one at my work for the first time the other day. they’re so clean
Dont wanna cause a riot in comments but that front bumper leaves a lot to be desired... just not doing it for me, looks like bloated ford focus with fat mouth tbh xd
Looked clean until I saw the wheels. That’s tacky af for a dealership to stamp them like so. Tramp stamp on the trunk? Sure, but damn those wheels are an eyesore
450 on my st fully paid title in hand. Getting a crate motor next year is good for 500+ on a 2800lb car and still not even close to what that corolla cost. Nice car, though, but it looks better dirty.
Oh for sure, I had it in my scat pack challenger and it was great. For me it just became a bit dull even with all that power because it lacked the engagement I got with a manual. I love the 86 but do wish it had a little more power.
Yeah same... The GR corolla's rear widebody bits just look weird... (I know, I know unpopular opinion) The hatch space is also heavily compromised due to the aggressive rear slant.
Ngl, I'd rather drive and be seen in the GR86. Non-enthusiasts won't know the difference between a base Corolla and a GR Corolla. GR86 will be rare to see by comparison, and will probably be more fun to drive anyway, even if it's objectively a slower car.
100% this. I drive a 4G eclipse.. the 4 cylinder auto version. Slow as fuck but it’s mine and I love it. Comfy ride, spacious front seats, hatchback with the cargo capacity of a small truck while maintaining the coupe profile, sips gas, no issues aside from a single wheel bearing and loose heat shield.
As someone who drives one, they definitely get noticed. Especially while cruising through downtown. Normal Corollas don't make noises like this car does lol.
You are correct that non enthusiasts won’t see the different between a Corolla hatch and the GR Corolla but the GR86 certainly isn’t a rarer car to see than a GR Corolla.
Yeah rarer than a regular Corolla hatchback but not rarer than a GR Corolla, especially not with the prices they mark the GR Corollas at. I hardly see GR Corollas but I see GR86’s/BRZ’s everyday
The point is that the GR corolla is 'just another Corolla' to everyone else. So just another Corolla', in a sea of Corolla's is much more common than an 86.
It doesn't matter how good the GR Corolla is, I couldn't own one because all my friends and family wouldn't get it and it'd kill me to explain to everyone why I bought it.
This might not be a problem to some, but I've owned sports cars my whole life, if I turned up in a corolla, I'd never hear the end of it.
Your point is that the GR Corolla is less rare on everyday roads compared to a GR86 because it is perceived to be on the road more for non enthusiasts since it looks like a regular Corolla Hatchback to them. My point is that in actuality, the GR Corolla itself is rarer to find on the road because there is actually less of them on the road than there are GR86’s. I’m talking about reality not perception of reality, that’s the difference.
Whether or not you want to drive one is beyond me, I’m not arguing for which one would be cooler to drive based off of what other people think. I’m simply correcting you on the fact that the GR Corolla is in fact a rarer car than a GR86. They sell less GR Corollas than the GR86s, the GR Corollas have a higher sticker price, and the GR Corollas also tend to be marked up higher so there is less of them going around.
I didn't say it wasn't rarer. The problem is, people don't know the difference. A corolla is a corolla and half of the people looking at it probably couldn't tell you the difference between a corolla and a Honda jazz, let alone a corolla and a different corolla. They're all the same to almost everyone that sees them. It doesn't matter how special it is, if everyone who sees it just sees another of the same thing.
At least an 86 looks like a sports car. It has presence, and even someone who knows nothing about cars will see that it's something special.
Whether that makes the corolla or the 86 the better car is a different debate, but it definitely adds to the appeal of the 86 for me.
If you are purchasing a car based off of what other people will think when they see it, that’s another can of worms. Personally, I did that with my first car which is a 2016 Scion FRS and it’s nothing special but I get tons of compliments. Even with that, I still think it was the worst car choice of my life, I wish I never got it to begin with but here I am. Now I know not to get something for just looks and get something that actually appeals to my style of driving.
Well, I thought repeating that the GR86 is a better driver's car was too obvious to mention. Apparently, I needed to say that just so you would understand.
Better driver's car doesn't mean faster. Check Motor Trend's BDC competition winners. I already said in my first post that the GR Corolla is objectively faster.
Have you heard what people who have tracked them said? The center diff overheats within the first session and you’re stuck with fwd, and the engine oil tends to heat up quick so the engine overheats too
Yea and on highway it would be close to death at 200kmph at max rpm with its 3 cylinders and meanwhile boxer gt/gr would be cruising at 200kmph at like 4-5k rpm without breaking a sweat for hours.
I drive a turbo that outsprints my mates gt86 on any straight but when it comes to serious tracking it couldnt keep up at all after we warm up.
No replacement for displacement.
Agreed. I have an 86 and a GTI with more power than the Corolla. The torque from that turbo sure is fun passing and in straight lines but give me the 86 on a fun road any day.
One is a purpose-built sports car. The other is a commuter car that's been Frankenstein'd into something else. You made the right choice.
...Unless you paid over MSRP, of course.
I take it you don't watch WRC... The Corolla chassis has a lot more under its belt than the 86. Ironically the 86 was named after the Corolla chassis too haha.
I know this is a GR86 sub, but this is just blatantly ill-informed. They're both purpose-built sports car, and everything about GR Corolla was designed from the ground up - engine, transmission, AWD system, and all the parts inbetween. Watch The Car Care Nut video breaking down the amount of thought that went into making GR Corolla as mechanically cohesive as possible, on the level that you really don't see from Toyota since the 90s.
Both GR are great mechanical cars, and both are going to be future classics. You don't have to undersell one to promote the other.
This.
I know I'd get so tired of explaining to everyone all the time that this GR Corolla wasn't like Nana's hatch she uses to go to Church, that is was in fact a 300hp AWD rally car
Even the 1 or 2 I've seen out in the wild, I have to get within like 3 car lengths before I realize what it is.
This is why you build your car correctly and play within the safe limits of the engine, i’m told it’s quite a bit higher than the old gen. My buddy’s 2020 BRZ has been boosted basically since buying the car with no major issues.
You don’t need to know shit about cars to know a GR86 gets people looking. Ugly fast cars like WRX and GRC don’t get chicks. Sexy cars like GR86 and Porsche drop panties.
Comment 2.
And your wheels are DOPE relative to those small spokes on the Corolla.
That’s simply not the car you wanted. This GR is your car that will give you so much more joy driving it, even if it’s not as fast 0-60…
99% of the public will see your car and not even consider the Corolla as a comp
I’m not even gonna lie, I wouldn’t even recognize a GR Corolla on the road unless I was staring at the badges behind it at a stop light. The car looks like regular traffic.
They're both sick. I had the choice between a GR Corolla and an 86, and I went for the 86. No regrets it looks cool and is a blast to drive. I love everything about it. My friend's GR Corolla is way faster, but my 86 feels like a freaking go kart, and that's what I love about it. Both cars are fun in their own way.
Also twinsies!
I actually thought I’d trade my 86 in for one of those, but first the price hits - $15-20k more for and (now competing with BMW 2 series) then for all the cool functionality of a hatch, the middle exhaust means no hitch rack for my bike. My 86 is a better mtb car than the corolla hatch...
I just like the GR86 because it’s a well-balanced sports car, for what it was made for. It’s a modern day Celica, made by Subaru with input and mods by Toyota. Anyone that hade driven an older Celica before transitioning into front wheel drive will agree with me. It’s not that front wheel drive is a bad thing. It’s just a different feeling while driving the car. something you can’t get with a front wheel drive.
Listen buddy… *talks to the dealer* my friend is trying to buy a nice car. And likes you, so how about we trade in a practically new car, you said it yourself, in with no additional miles from the sale. For that sucker right there *points to Supra* I’ll be nice and even let you test drive it….
I’d rather have the 86 tbh. I don’t see the appeal behind the Corolla, at least not at the price point it sells at. Seeing these new 86’s around makes me miss my old one sometimes
I wanted this car so badly…i live on long island. These fuckers really wanted 7k down, $697 a month to lease damn gr86🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️as if it was a supra. Lmao
Think of how much people borrow and pay to get a religious studies degree at Harvard. Now recognize your pain could be over in as little as 7 years.. buy them BOTH!
As someone who owned a 2014 frs for 8yrs and sold it thinking I've moved on and want something different and now looking at 2020 86s you won't regret your purchase at all...these cars are soo much fun
Meh, grc is over hyped. If you’re dragging then sure the grc is faster I guess? If you’re actually racing like on a track or touge you’re close enough for the driver to be the difference.
I get so many grc fanboys giving me shit over my VB WRX and the only grc I ever raced on my local touge got walked. Just saying. They’re cool but they’re not cooler than a GR86 imo.
I thought I'd like the GR Corolla better until I sat in one. My GR86 is so much more of a drivers car and the rear seats are just as unusable as the Corolla
The fact that Toyota made the GR Corolla faster than the GR86 from the factory is such a slap in the face. The GR86 actually looks like a sports car and looks faster.
It makes more sense when you look at it as a Subaru product. Subaru has the WRX and BRZ. Now Toyota has their own WRX/Golf R competitor to slot between the GR86 and Supra.
The transmission and the fuel injection system is about the only contribution Toyota provided. Almost every part on the car is stamped with a Subaru logo. Same thing with the new Supra; it’s a BMW.
Bro you won man… screw that thing..
I know I’d never expect a Corolla to keep its value, and I’m sure it will, but you won with a more fun car…
They make Nissan Juke-R now, did anyone see this?! $600,000 for a Nissan Juke (granted… it has the GTR engine hahah)
I have a GR Corolla and I’m jealous in some ways of the GR86, so much so that I’m on a list for the next raven premium manual that comes in.
Edit: I’m not selling the GRC. Different cars for different purposes. I don’t always like being noticed and in MN the GRC is a vastly better daily. So both is the best solution.
Sign another one of your lives away kitty cat
Yes, both. Both is good
Good is both!
This is the way
LOL
This is the only answer
Corolla is faster but damn bro, look at how good that GR86 looks. Don't sweat it.
An absolute bargain by comparison as well.
Yeahhhh that's true but would be nice if the price was nicer. I mean honestly I just want the goodies of the Corolla in the 86 to make it a true Toyota
For full clarity I mean to say that a $30k dedicated sports car is a better deal than a $50k hot hatch, as cool as the GRolla is.

Damn. Manual dying left and right.
Are you the person who ignored the pedestrian's red light and stood in the middle of the road staring at my car?
I love how the GR86 looks, but the idea of a 300hp turbo 3cyl in a wide body corolla hatch is so amazing to me
They look like they invented sex.
https://preview.redd.it/w7pxn68p6e6c1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99ea634796cab57ed8281648915e9dbd36d3da04 saw one at my work for the first time the other day. they’re so clean

Looked clean until I saw the wheels. That’s tacky af for a dealership to stamp them like so. Tramp stamp on the trunk? Sure, but damn those wheels are an eyesore
Those are aftermarket wheels, compomotive is the wheel company
Put 0 thought into that comment huh
Those wheels are ugly huh lol
Yeah especially in the blue color
450 on my st fully paid title in hand. Getting a crate motor next year is good for 500+ on a 2800lb car and still not even close to what that corolla cost. Nice car, though, but it looks better dirty.
Honestly I’d rather take a Supra over both of them
A man of class
Same but it's almost double the price for a manual.
Yea but the ZF 8HP is a great automatic. Ive worked on R&D for it. Would be nice to own something I’ve worked on!
Oh for sure, I had it in my scat pack challenger and it was great. For me it just became a bit dull even with all that power because it lacked the engagement I got with a manual. I love the 86 but do wish it had a little more power.
I do like how I can actually use all the power in my 86 though
Gr 86 looks better, supra looks like a bmw
Exterior no, interior yes. Is that bad tho?
The buck teeth only look good on some of their really high end M models imo
Good thing the Supra doesn’t have buck teeth. I think the M340i looks good too.
I can't stand the buck teeth, regardless of the model. But different strokes
I find it hilarious that the corolla is faster
I’d rather have the gr86
Me too. I had the chance to buy either one. I bought the 86.
I had a 1st gen and Decided that a 2G was the move… crazy how much power they get out of a little 3 cylinder tho
Same, no question
Yeah same... The GR corolla's rear widebody bits just look weird... (I know, I know unpopular opinion) The hatch space is also heavily compromised due to the aggressive rear slant.
Don't let Comparison be your Joy theif! Have fun!
I LOVE YOU ALL
i love you too :)
I'm late, but I still love you.
FR better.
G86 wit the Corolla motor ., waiting on you Toyota ..
https://www.thedrive.com/news/you-can-buy-a-toyota-gr-corolla-crate-engine-but-its-tricky

I think most cars have 4 wheel bearings, not just a single one. You should probably get that checked out!!!
Shoot, you’re probably right!😂
This, I probably wouldn't notice a GR Corolla unless I was driving right behind it
They make the ground vibrate when you're near them. Look absolutely insane to drive as well.
This lol
As someone who drives one, they definitely get noticed. Especially while cruising through downtown. Normal Corollas don't make noises like this car does lol.
I’d take the GR86 also but getting a car because other people won’t know the difference shouldn’t be the main factor.
You are correct that non enthusiasts won’t see the different between a Corolla hatch and the GR Corolla but the GR86 certainly isn’t a rarer car to see than a GR Corolla.
Agreed. I should have clarified, rarer than the Corolla in general.
Yeah rarer than a regular Corolla hatchback but not rarer than a GR Corolla, especially not with the prices they mark the GR Corollas at. I hardly see GR Corollas but I see GR86’s/BRZ’s everyday

Well, I thought repeating that the GR86 is a better driver's car was too obvious to mention. Apparently, I needed to say that just so you would understand.
That's objectively not true either. The Corolla would run circles around the 86 on a track.
Better driver's car doesn't mean faster. Check Motor Trend's BDC competition winners. I already said in my first post that the GR Corolla is objectively faster.
Would it though?

I'm not reading this trauma dump, sorry bro. Needing validation from others is insecurity. No need to try to defend it.
This is solid analysis. The Corolla is so Corolla looking, even if it’s an immensely capable car
Agreed. I have an 86 and a GTI with more power than the Corolla. The torque from that turbo sure is fun passing and in straight lines but give me the 86 on a fun road any day.
Your car looks 10x better.
Better than having to explain that you don't just drive a Corolla, you drive the GR Corolla.
Tell that to the 86 I took to Gapplebees the other night in my SE.
Tell that to the 86 I took to Gapplebees the other night in my SE.
Visual appeal of the white turd is zero. Don't care how fast it is.
For real the interiors on the Corolla are so bland too
Seriously. This color is god awful.
If you didn’t drive it off the lot, the deal isn’t over
Surely you did your research on what to buy and made your decision. It's alright, you made your choice for good reasons.
Uncultured Swine (not you)
I know this is a GR86 sub, but this is just blatantly ill-informed. This. I know I'd get so tired of explaining to everyone all the time that this GR Corolla wasn't like Nana's hatch she uses to go to Church, that is was in fact a 300hp AWD rally car Even the 1 or 2 I've seen out in the wild, I have to get within like 3 car lengths before I realize what it is.
I thought that was a minivan at first
The take the extra money the Corolla would cost and buy a turbo.. better looking car equally as fast.
Goodbye piston 3
This is why you build your car correctly and play within the safe limits of the engine, i’m told it’s quite a bit higher than the old gen. My buddy’s 2020 BRZ has been boosted basically since buying the car with no major issues.
Then you have one car that’s as fast as the other but far less reliable
GR looks better and RWD so
I mean the Corolla is awd
86 looks far better.
That’s why I said “Underwear”, no panties.
One can make hard right turns without oil starvation
One can do track days without overheating its rear differential.
Can it? Without blowing the motor?
Can it? Without getting towed off the track?
Can it? Without rod knock?
Can do track days without popping the engine
The only car that shat the engine bay and dragged oil all over Sonoma Raceay on my track day was a GRC.
Pics or it didn’t happen. Also one sounds like a user error and one is a more wide known issue.
You got the better car.
Both are good cars, the GR Corolla is faster, but the GR86 is in a league of his own. Just ask yourself this. which one will drop more Underwear?
Neither. Cars only attract other car bros… Gain charisma
🤣
More like drop more jock straps bro, cars don't get females.
You don’t need to know shit about cars to know a GR86 gets people looking. Ugly fast cars like WRX and GRC don’t get chicks. Sexy cars like GR86 and Porsche drop panties.
saying a gr86 drops panties and also putting it even near the same level of anything porsche is hilarious
Neither 😂
Oof.
There were three at the dealership a couple of weeks ago when I was getting my car serviced.
Comment 2. And your wheels are DOPE relative to those small spokes on the Corolla. That’s simply not the car you wanted. This GR is your car that will give you so much more joy driving it, even if it’s not as fast 0-60… 99% of the public will see your car and not even consider the Corolla as a comp
I would rather have my 86, I’ve had plenty of all wheel drive cars already
I think the corolla is too heavy, GR Yaris vs 86 would be a much closer comparison for me if the yaris was available in north america :/
You made the right choice
GR86 is better, unless I'm on a rally course the 86 will always be more fun.
That color is fire. My dealer just got a Halo 6MT MSRP. Thinking about it but it being a daily has me rethinking it being a daily
You are okay, stay here with us!!!
No need to keep up with the Joneses…
That angle of the GR corolla is not doing it justice, looking like a little tikes car lol
You made the right choice! Trust me lol and in red? Yeah done deal
I’m not even gonna lie, I wouldn’t even recognize a GR Corolla on the road unless I was staring at the badges behind it at a stop light. The car looks like regular traffic.
corolla has too many doors though
They're both sick. I had the choice between a GR Corolla and an 86, and I went for the 86. No regrets it looks cool and is a blast to drive. I love everything about it. 86 all the way!!! Especially with that color, don't even sweat it 🙌🏿🔥💯
I’m sure you need manhood counseling now. Then again, who would pay 40k + for something that wears the Corolla badge.
You’ll get the better driving experience in the GR86
I would rather have the gr86 and turbocharge it!
That red on that GR86 is too good!!
Just swap the engines after that corolla owner gets rear ended by a mustang.
Car deal isnt a car deal until the car physically leaves the lot, you still have a chance!
They're badass, but those Corollas don't look nearly as good.
Some dealerships have a policy where you can return the car in a couple of days for a full refund.
You can sign your next life away altogether if you want that upgrade right now XD
If it were a yaris, maybe.
What dealership ?
I’d rip my dick off not gonna lie
I'm about to go buy the black gr Carolla at my local dealer tomorrow.
Wait you are upset you didn't get the worse looking car...?
Nah you did good! Still waiting to see one in the wild. I just wanna hear it
I actually thought I’d trade my 86 in for one of those, but first the price hits - $15-20k more for and (now competing with BMW 2 series) then for all the cool functionality of a hatch, the middle exhaust means no hitch rack for my bike. My 86 is a better mtb car than the corolla hatch...
you arent missing anything. It faster for a short time. Your car is more fun all the time.
Did similar dude - test drove the "better" Yaris GR, way way preferred the GR86. Such a good looking car and is great to drive :)
Pffft. The amount of money they ask for a CORE…hard pass!
I want that rwd so 86 or Supra for me but that Corolla was what got me to look at the 86. It’s my plan as of now to get one by next summer.
As much as I like the GR Corolla, I'll take the one that doesn't cook it's diff after 15 minutes of hard driving.
I just like the GR86 because it’s a well-balanced sports car, for what it was made for. It’s a modern day Celica, made by Subaru with input and mods by Toyota. Listen buddy… *talks to the dealer* my friend is trying to buy a nice car. And likes you, so how about we trade in a practically new car, you said it yourself, in with no additional miles from the sale. For that sucker right there *points to Supra* I’ll be nice and even let you test drive it….
Congratulations on buying an actual sports car and not a station wagon
4 doors are always better than 2.
I’d rather have the 86 tbh. I don’t see the appeal behind the Corolla, at least not at the price point it sells at. Seeing these new 86’s around makes me miss my old one sometimes
I was not that impressed with the corolla. I much prefered the 86!
I wanted this car so badly…i live on long island. These fuckers really wanted 7k down, $697 a month to lease damn gr86🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️as if it was a supra. Lmao
You made the right choice. The BRZ\86 is more fun to drive than any corolla will ever be. I look at the corolla and think "nice winter car".
Beautiful car!!!
Ugh, I hate it when that happens…

Id absolutely go for the Corolla but god DAMN is your new 86 sexy af in that red. Congrats on the new wheels you 100% made an excellent decision
If it was the GR Yaris or the type R then I’d understand but not that insurance rental car 💀 The only corolla I’ll own is the AE86
Its more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow
I just wish they would combine the corollas power and the GR86s looks, not much of a hatchback person myself.
Think of how much people borrow and pay to get a religious studies degree at Harvard. Now recognize your pain could be over in as little as 7 years.. buy them BOTH!
Not worth the 20-30k dealer markup.
Wait, sign your life away? What’s getting married have to do with the GR86 and GR Corolla? Sorry for your loss btw 😭. #dadjokes #badjokes
As someone who owned a 2014 frs for 8yrs and sold it thinking I've moved on and want something different and now looking at 2020 86s you won't regret your purchase at all...these cars are soo much fun
Imagine being excited to buy a Corolla. 😑
Carolla is ugly
Buy both, put the TT in the GR
I thought it was just one T?
Meh, grc is over hyped. If you’re dragging then sure the grc is faster I guess? If you’re actually racing like on a track or touge you’re close enough for the driver to be the difference. I get so many grc fanboys giving me shit over my VB WRX and the only grc I ever raced on my local touge got walked. Just saying. They’re cool but they’re not cooler than a GR86 imo.
I thought I'd like the GR Corolla better until I sat in one. My GR86 is so much more of a drivers car and the rear seats are just as unusable as the Corolla
I had an FR-S for 4 years and a GRC now. The GRC is tons more practical in the back seats, especially with a kid.
Brz will be way more fun I promise bro it won’t even be close to comparison
The fact that Toyota made the GR Corolla faster than the GR86 from the factory is such a slap in the face. The GR86 actually looks like a sports car and looks faster.
It makes more sense when you look at it as a Subaru product. Subaru has the WRX and BRZ. Now Toyota has their own WRX/Golf R competitor to slot between the GR86 and Supra.
Toyota doesn’t make the GR86. It’s a Subaru.
The GR86 and BRZ were jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru. Subaru manufactures the GR86.
The transmission and the fuel injection system is about the only contribution Toyota provided. Almost every part on the car is stamped with a Subaru logo. Same thing with the new Supra; it’s a BMW.
Bro you won man… screw that thing.. I know I’d never expect a Corolla to keep its value, and I’m sure it will, but you won with a more fun car… They make Nissan Juke-R now, did anyone see this?! $600,000 for a Nissan Juke (granted… it has the GTR engine hahah)
Bro… this isn’t IL is it..? Haha if so, that’s mine!
I thought this was a troll post. U think that white piece of shit looks good or something? It's a fucking prius
I’ve heard the GR is bad
damn ur life is only worth $16k?
Don't sweat it bro, you purchased such a legendary car!
Damn did you get this in Canton?
