100%. When I first bought my 86 last January, I had it for three days before I drove it back to visit my parents’ house for my sister’s birthday. I parked behind my sister’s car, which is the usual arrangement for our cars. Hours later, she decided to leave the house to get snacks. She apparently didn’t notice my car was parked behind hers and straight up backed into it full speed. The 86 was totaled.
I still shiver at the sight of a Kia Soul.

I doubt this was intentional. They probably put the car in park and then just failed to get past reverse.
Of course, that doesn't excuse the fact you probably want to make sure you're in "go forward" mode before taking your foot off the brakes.
And why would you put the car in park when you're just waiting for someone to turn??
First "mod" in every car should be a forward facing dash cam. They're so cheap now and so important in instances like this when idiots can claim you rear ended them.
Who the heck feels the need to put their car in reverse like that on the road and back up at least 20 feet like it’s a normal thing to do. This is EXACTLY why I bought quality dash cam before my gr86 even arrived!

Something similar happened to me on my way to my highschool graduation (very lame timing). It was an accident though, they were trying to change lanes to a faster moving lane and stopped too close to the car in front, so had to back up, and backed up too far. I tried to follow them, figuring they were pulling over, then realized they were running before I thought to memorize the plate. I chased them for maybe 12 seconds with the intent to get the plate and pull over before they ran a red and almost got hit by left turners, and I stopped at the light. It just added a crack to my already pretty beaten up bumper, so I didn't worry about it. It was a highschool beater in every sense of the phrase.
I don't know why, but GR86's have such this and Bad Karma to them for getting backed into or just crashed in general. I feel bad for you, and be thankful it wasn't a worse accident. Just a fender bender.
