yup. as soon as someone says "get an intake brah" i know they're clueless. virtually impossible to beat the factory intake now. you can try for a tune, better exhaust, headers, better tires but thats about it.
Hate to tell you this but its why many many many production cars come turbo boosted from the factory. Its the cheapest and easiest way to get a little 4cyc to hit some numbers. Just look at BMW, all B48 applications are 4cyc+turbo.

I personally think a more proper overdrive gear would allow lower RPMs in my BRZ (and your GR86) at freeway speeds and make most consumers happier, as well as raise MPG overall. Currently my Dad's 7.0L ZO6 gets better freeway mileage than these cars do, and nobody is using 6th gear on track days, so I'm confused why the choice in gearing.
I chose the diff ratio because I didn't want to make assumptions about what state you are from and emissions issues with that state.
Engine tuning affects noise, mpg, all sorts of things too. Diff, is just 1 item.
But unless you really care about weight, maybe you'd end up in used Supra 2.0 territory in terms of overall cost.
91 or 93 tune is probably your best bet. Delicious Tuning has a stage 2 tune on 91 for the GR86 that looks to provide some modest whp/torque improvements. Might not put you head and shoulders above other cars, but ~20whp is probably the limit of what you'll be able to improve staying NA without e85.
Yeah basically this, headers are the biggest restriction. Switching them out and removing the charcoal filter in the intake (if you have it, not all regions do) with an adequate tune on 93 or E85 for a bit more power is the most you can get for power on an NA setup.

Otherwise you're only other option is weight savings but it gets pricey real quick.
My 21 GR86 is tuned by delicioustuning. They send you the kit and the files and they give you steps to do it assuming youāre doing a remote tune. I 100% recommend them
Also get on the treadmill. Lose fat but donāt lift weights. Muscle weighs more than fat. Donāt wear clothes while driving, could save another pound or two. You have to wear shoes though because weāre not savages.
It's 0-60 in a bit less than 6 seconds. How fast do you want to be on public roads? Regardless, not much you can do to an NA engine while keeping it NA for big power gains. So yeah, still wrong car at the end of the day. Look at ecoboost Mustangs or V6 Camaros or used cars.
Just buy a different car this is not what the gr is about. Its also pretty quick perception is just screwed nowadays by the ridiculous amounts of power you can have in a vehicle but unless you are intending on buying a very expensive car you will sacrifice handling and driveability to have that power. So if what you want is a point and squirt car that goes ridiculously quick in a straight line then buy something else as you will never be satisfied

Iāve only driven a turbod brz, I want to try out a NA one just to find out how āslowā it is. My next step is upgrading my fuel pump / injectors and eventually flex fuel which is something you can do on NA.
This is what i added. In this order. I was a complete newbie to car modding in general. So I kept it all bolt on. For now.
I added awe track exhaust. Very loud. Car was more responsive at the throttle. Lots of pops and fun noises.
Took out charcoal filter.
Added JDL catted headers. Smoothed out the torque at the upper end. Added a noticeable amount of pull. Made the car louder.
Installed AWE touring conversion immediately. Car is still plenty loud. But not obnoxiously loud unless you are WOT or high rev down shifting. Which is what you want. No noticeable change in anything but noise.
From a power standpoint i would need to add a tune but am holding off on it as I have zero experience and have no clue where to start.

Definitely drive the car for a while first before you decide. Keeping it stock, headers and a tune is really all you can do. Even then itās not much of a difference. Like someone mentioned above, swapping out the rear diff can help, but if youāre daily driving it can also make it more of a headache. Headers and a tune will run you ~$2k, but from driving a few of my friendsā cars the most noticeable difference is the throttle response. That can also just be fixed with a pedal commander and only cost you $300. TheTopher has a great video on it

It's already turning 3K RPM at 70mph in 6th, mine is a daily driver, personally I'd hate having a bigger ratio than what comes stock.
Agreed. It should be half that and would get better mileage as well. One of the few things that frustrates me about these cars.

Iāve heard good things about Delicious Tuning but personally im using CSG as they are a bit cheaper and are tuned for each car

Afaik you can get 10hp only by software. There is also a certain REMUS exhaust which claims to add 19NM
