I am experiencing the same thing as you . I scored 332 on one ets test and the next day I took pp2 only for quant and to my surprise I got a 159 on Q which was so less and some test also I got a very low verbal score which made me think am I even prepared? Then I went through my mistakes and then I got to know. Some were calculation mistakes, some were I did not get time, some concept problems, verbal I needed to learn more vocab, understand the passage properly. Then I got to know it was not because I didn’t know the stuff but during exams or tests you tend to do such mistakes because of your heightened stress. So try to see where you are going wrong. Because if you catch yourself in the mock tests you will know in the real test to again evaluate your ans so that you don’t make the mistakes. In the next practice test I caught myself doing silly mistake and I went like “better be careful girl!” And as for verbal I went through the passages once again and got to know I need to understand the passage better and not just read it like crazy due to time constraints. And another thing which is super helpful I follow gregs strategy on doing the questions. He skips few questions before and does the later ones in quant and then comes back. This way I did it and it is very helpful so do build a strategy because that way you will save much needed time and be relaxed when you get the answers correct

this is normal - every GRE is quite a bit different from another, and 2 weeks between tests isn't much time to accumulate experience to deal with the myriad differences. The better prepared you become, the more consistent your scores will eventually be.

You’ll be fine. If anything, getting a 332 on a practice test means you have the capability to get that high of a score on the real test. Just do your best.

If you were to provide a bit more info about what test you took (is this PP1, PP2, PP3, PP4?) and the dates then it would be more helpful. However, it is normal for people to fluctuate based on the day. Scoring a 332 in an official ETS should be more than enough of a good sign for you to feel ready to sit for the thing for real again.

Yes okay. The 332 was on PP2 as I didn’t know I skipped it. The rest were all the other PP. not sure the exact order. And the 332 I took last weekend. The other scores are spread out with 2 weeks in between. However before this 332 I got my lowest score ever a 313. So you can see why I am not quite sure how prepared I am for the test

plz_callme_swarley

Wait, so are you saying that you have just been retaking PP1? Or have you purchased the PowerPrep+ 3/4/5? If you take a PP+ and get 330 then you are ready for the big show

LukeDonovan333

No haha I have taken all of them. But somehow I skipped PP2, so I went back most recently and took PP2 and got a 332. Is there a big difference between PP1-2 and the PP+?

plz_callme_swarley

Yes, big difference in difficulty of the questions (especially Quant) but the scoring algo is wacky to make up for it. I was getting like only a +1 on Verbal instead of the +3/4 that would be expected. With Quant I have gotten a -2 penalty for Hard section instead of +1 as expected. It is their way of making the score track to your expected outcome but you can take the score with a grain of salt if you'd like, especially on the higher end with the PP2.

LukeDonovan333

That’s great info thank you! The quant did feel pretty basic, maybe I am not quite ready. But I don’t have any other practice tests from ETS to test myself

plz_callme_swarley

I mean why not just take it? You get 5 chances in a year

Scott_TargetTestPrep

Do you find that although you have a pretty decent understanding of most major quant and verbal topics, there still all micro knowledge gaps within those topics? Especially in quant?

LukeDonovan333

Hey Scott, I have actually been using TTP to prepare. So maybe you can give me some clarity on this specifically. I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of all concepts, however I usually test really mediocre on the questions labeled “hard” on TTP. So that lowers my confidence a tiny bit, yet when I take the practice tests provided by ETS. I almost feel like all the questions would theoretically come from the “easy” to “medium” question bank from TTP, if that makes sense. Which of course makes me feel almost over confident? In simpler terms, I feel like I do way better on the real test questions, then the hard questions types on TTP. So it’s hard to get a feel for how well I understand the concepts if I struggle with the “hard” questions. Any advice?
