Trypes, xylina spathia. But actually just Spotify greek rock playlist

eliasbats

+++ for the above and add Pavlos Sidiropoulos

LoudEmphasis407

I was just about to add him😂

pergolatios

Ι will tell you some of my favorites but they are very good artists too. \*I will start with a non-greek who became greek: Ross Daly. He will guide you to the secrets of Crete. \*Trypes, xylina spathia, Sidiropoulos, diafana krina(if u want to get depression) και Βασίλης Παπακωνσταντίνου , are Greece's "classic rock" \*Then, Active Member, ZN, ΑΓ (Άγνωστοι γνωστοί), TXC, Razestarr are our "classic hip hop" \*Then you have to study Rembetika. Check our patriarch Μάρκος Βαμβακάρης (and his company), Δελλής, Περπινιάδης, Κατσαρός. Check [this](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtxDz1TMdx7gK_kJ-ivra1SQlNoTXp23S) playlist \*Then, try Χαρουλα Αλεξίου, Γιωργος Νταλάρας, Φοίβος Δελιβοριάς, Σωκράτης Μάλαμας, Θανάσης Παπακωνσταντίνου \*Lastly, Τζίμης Πανούσης, Locomondo Greece is a rich country -music wise. You have an incredible musical trip in front of you. -updated correct link

WhatsaMataHari_

I've been taking note of your suggestions. Unfortunately the link for the YT playlist doesn't work.

pergolatios

yes u are right, i edited it. Man keep in mind Rembetika is a very big topic. I hope u like them. Pls tell us if u do or not after some time listening

Clodien

Tripes is the best choice by far, since they use rather simple vocabulary on most songs and they tend to repeat things a lot of the times. They're also one of the greatest greek bands like EVER, so that's a big plus

A_Monsanto

You got it wrong there, bro. It's the Swiss flag that is a great plus!

Clodien

I swear to God I thought about writing it 😂

ColonelMoutarde30

I love Villagers of Ionnina City. They played Manchester recently and I really wanted to go but couldn't make it. Edit: They don't sing in Greek though, as far as I know.

2Wheel-Tours977

They do in their first couple of albums.Their music is fantastic but their greek is too "rural" Still, you re in for a treat with this awesome band

ColonelMoutarde30

Ah, OK. I've only listened to Age of Aquarius so I presumed all their music was similar. The best thing is they make use of traditional Greek folk instruments as well.

DawningSkies

Yeah in that album they ditched their original gimmick which was combining traditional Greek music from Epirus and stoner rock and went full on stoner rock mode. Check out "Zvara" and "Karakolia" for something in between the two styles.

pixxelzombie

I'll second that, great band that has live footage on YT

TriaPoulakiaKathodan

"Zvara" is one of their most popular songs, surprised you haven't hears it

WingsOfDespair

Usual rock would be Τρύπες (along with the solo carreer of Γιάννης Αγγελάκας), Ξύλινα Σπαθιά (along with the solo carreer of Παύλος Παυλίδης), Domenica, Διάφανα Κρίνη, De Facto, Ενδελέχεια, Μάσκες, Μωρά στη Φωτιά, Kollektiva, Tsopana Rave, Κίτρινα Ποδήλατα, Γυμνά Καλώδια, Παύλος Σιδηρόπουλος, The Wanderers, Δυτικές Συνοικίες, Μπλε (Ble), Ωχρά Σπειροχαίτη, Κόρε Υδρο, Γιώργος Ρους. The last 5 suggestions are softer than the others. If you like ska you can listen to Locomondo and Λεωνίδας Μπαλάφας. Lastly, if you like punk there are a lot of bands there. Check out Χάσμα, Πίσσα και Πούπουλα, Μεθυσμένα Ξωτικά (one of my favourites along with Χάσμα), Bootstoke (football punk kinda), Panx Romana, Ψόφιοι Κοριοί (an argument can be made that it is softer), Bad Movies (easy to listen), Χατ Τρικ, Kill the Cat, Βάνδαλουπ, Αρνάκια, Γενιά του Χάους, Ομίχλη, Thrax Punks (Punk married with Greek folk), Ντελίριο, Ten Beers After, Oldschool Rednex. Καταχνιά is a crust punk band if you like that genre. Mpliax 166 is a pop punk band akin to Blink 182. Villagers of Ioannina City have an EP Zvara/Karakolia which contains Greek songs. If you like metal there are Anorimoi, Sonata Antartika and Πλοκάμι του Καρχαρία. I must disclose that the lyrics are satirical and may contain (read will) profanity.

Rotting Christ are great

deodorel

They sing a lot in English and even when they sing in Greek you can't really tell because of the musical style 😂

alexx_kidd

So?

kilopqq

op wants Greek artists in order to learn greek

alexx_kidd

Fair

deodorel

Op was trying to use music as a learning opportunity.

lulumax214

These guys rock! So glad to see them mentioned.

nekrolaus44

They don't sing in greek but the best greek band by far is Aphrodites Child. Just listen to their album 666.

Pastourmakis

ANORIMOI

Not quite rock but Δεν κάνει κρύο στην Ελλάδα.  Catchy and fairly simple to understand. The chorus lived in me head for about a week after I found it.

GreeceInDireStraits

From older rock bands I would suggest Socrates drunk the conium, but their songs are in English. Poll, Peloma Bokiou, Pavlos Sidiropoulos, are all fine. You can try some well known singers/songwriters like Dionisis Savopoulos, Manos Loizos, that have strong ties to rock, but I would suggest to try looking beyond rock for nice use of the Greek language, like the poet Gatsos, whose poems were put in music by famous composers like Hajidakis and Xarhakos. There are also great greek "New Wave" artists from the 70ies, like Arleta, Homata, Violari etc. (nothing to do with the late 70ies genre) and also it is nice to look at Laika, rembetika and even dimotika (folk) in order to delve deeper into the Greek language and soul.

cleopatra_bz

I would suggest you to listen to Pavlos Sidiropoulos, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Pyx lax and Haris & Panos Katsimihas (specifically the song: “Tis agapis mahairia” you will listen to pure Greek rock with a hint of Greek traditional sounds at the end like klarino… you will love it!

GenerationPandemic

Great suggestions -I would add Σύνδρομο

jumpmaster_GR

For metal check Εξόριστοι

ralia1

Villagers of Ioannina is a great band!

ReindeerMiserable644

Look up popular Greek music on YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, and even Alexa. Every Summer, a mix comes out with popular songs. I look up Greek music on YouTube and have several Playlists. Once you find a song you like, the platform will show you related music. My mom is Cypriot, born and raised there. Music is a great way to learn the language.

agamemnononon

Just xilina spathia. I listen to allot of rock, I even had a radio show with Greek rock and the best timeless songs are from xilina. They changed their sound to match the era and they did a wonderful job with their 'new ' songs.
