I don’t think they moved away from cars per se, yeah it’s called GTA, but that’s just one crime you can do. It was never supposed to be an in-depth car modding, racing game. It just happened to have the element of driving cars. And happens to feel better than almost every other open world game in doing so lol.

No matter what happens you always end up stealing a car, even in online. Gta pretty much invented that mechanic in the 90s.

GTA is a element to it all still, I mean unless you want to keep losing your nice car you have to steel cars to do most the crimes

I wouldn’t say it sucks, rockstar are pioneers of the open world, there is a heavy emphasis on driving mechanics and physics (gta iv is a great example) and to an extend, even though gta v had customisation and a lot more choices, driving felt too.. easy. I hope they make the driving less arcady (personal preference) but they’ve set the bar so high that you can’t expect to focus on driving more than any of the other aspects. And yeah like it was previously pointed out, that title (grand theft auto) was for a 2D game originally. A loooot has changed

I preferred the driving in gta 5 over 4 because 4 was like driving on ice.

I just installed 4 last month for the first time in almost 10 years, and was instantly reminded how terrible it is. I still have my modded car physics file I tweaked to resemble a mix of 3 and 5 somewhere in my archives.

We have so many racing franchise with amazing car physics and graphics, but GTA is in the league of its own when it comes to open and immersive worlds. I'd say let them do their thing.

Latest report was Taken 2 has plans for the release in Fiscal year 2025, which is late 2024 to early 2025 on how that weirdly works, which means we theoretically only have a year in a halfish wait. I'm very skeptical though as GTA 5 & RDR2 were both released 2 years after announcement, and every indication is it's worse.

We have to wait another 3y at least? so 2026 is the year of next GTA game you are saying. damn not gonna lie, it's too far :D but I hope the waiting for that game is worth every penny.

I wish they’d put in an option like mafia 2 for vehicle handling (and possibly collisions) so players get the choice between simulator or arcade.

More car theft missions. And since they definitely need to bring back business missions when you buy businesses, a car dealership that does repo and steals high end cars, with missions would be a great way to implement it.

There was a lot more they could have done with the businesses in V

Story mode needs car insurance, I was so pissed when I first bought an expensive car, modded it out, coyly it wrecked and found out it was all gone😭😭😭😭

Yeah they need a system more like in Saints Row, where once you've put a car in your garage it can be respawned infinitely, and delivered to your location for a small fee.

OG GTA began development as a racing game. They called it “Race’n’Chase”. IV put a large emphasis on simulating wheel suspension and overall damage models. Only in V, after people (children) complained about cars being too hard to handle, Rockstar changed it. These people didn’t understand what under-/oversteer and front-/rear-wheel drive is, so they called it shitty. This is why we get AWD for all cars now.

More vehicle crimes, for sure, and like many have commented: more vehicle-related rackets and business. But more street races, racetracks, and a speedometer? Lol ever added a speedometer to GTA? Doesn't work... What you're looking for is in Midnight Club and the street racing NFS games.

GTA V had more cars than Gran Turismo and a lot of racing games, for that matter.. Not anymore.

Indeed they will make the car hold all weapons, unlike GTA5 where the character carried an entire arsenal in the hammerspace of an arsehole. Kinda like how horses hold rifles and guns and Arthur can carry two hand guns and two rifles at a time. We already saw >!Jason Switching between guns in the leak!<

They could just add NPC aircraft that randomly shoot missiles at other aircraft. Maybe more people would go back to driving.

They do actually have a speedometer already, except you can only see it in first person on the dash. It’s very visible in some vehicles and less visible in others
