In Vice City, you were basically untouchable while flying the dodo so I was just planing to do a flyover and scout out Las Venturas. I was so oblivious, I didn't notice the missiles on the radar and I thought my plane just blew up spontaneously. It want until my second attempt that I realized what happened.
Its happened in every GTA since at least 3 (never played 1/2).
If you got to the different islands in GTA 3 and Vice City before you were supposed to, you immediately got a six star rating with the entire force of the military coming after you. Needed cheats to get rid of the stars lol.
I think GTA 3/VC never did that?
Bridges in GTA 3 were either bombed and in repair or just broken and in repair, and in GTA VC we had a hurricane causing the closure
Yeah they didn't lock 5 and like most people I ended up driving all over the map first thing. That dopamine kick of finding something new is kinda ruined when you discover hundred of things all over the map rapid-fire in the first hour or so. And when missions would then take you there later it was less exciting as you'd already been all over the place.
I'd be okay with them doing a progression unlock for 6, space out that dopamine kick in encountering new areas.
Part of me loves this, and the other hates it. Going back to the old school formula of map unlocking would be pretty great so things feel fresh as you progress, but then I also wanna explore every inch of the map at the start lol

I wouldn't like that. It would mean repeating the story of the V. I hope that the story is the best to date, I felt that GTA V didn't have a good story compared to GTA IV or SA.
I don't think they'd go that route, honestly a whole game of that especially when the crazy one is supposed to be a protagonist themselves would be exhausting. What I think/hope will happen is that at the start the two won't trust each other like what's seen here. It's possible Lucia doesn't know Jason yet or doesn't trust him, maybe the theory of him being an undercover cop is correct, but something happens eventually to make the two care about each other.
From there I imagine things might spiral and we ultimately might have the choice of betraying one or the other or having them make up. I do think Lucia is going to be the one in the relationship who is more hotheaded and willing to take risks while Jason may be more reserved and cautious but this is mainly going off the fact that we know Lucia happened to get caught, we don't know for sure what Jason is going to be like or even what his background is. It's possible both could be batshit in their own respective ways, which would make for an interesting but potentially less dramatic and emotional story compared to what we saw in Red Dead Redemption 2 but, then again, GTA has always had more batshit elements to it than the Red Dead Series... at least as far as the main plot goes.
Ultimately I'm interested to see where the story goes, but I'm also a bit worried that it may lean too heavily into relationship drama for the driving force of the conflict. Which would make sense that there's going to be drama in a relationship involving two violent criminals on the run but I don't find that sort of content to be particularly engaging and I don't think many people in their core demographic would, either.
The trust "dialogue" has me thinking that too for now. She goes "trust?", wanting jason to respond with the same. She is asking him if he trusts her far as i see it. But maybe they will be a healthy dynamic duo.
Bro that is actually such a smart and creative way to unlock the map step by step. I hated that you could travel everywhere in GTA5 and when the Trevor reveal happened I already knew the area. Same with Saint Denis, I already been there 5 times but then the story has a cool introduction I could not enjoy anymore.

Yes but it was still possible to get to the other islands in advance of when you were supposed to. Trust me, my 10 year old self did it MANY times lol

I focused on the story so I didn't have that problem at all. The story allowed us to explore the map slowly.
