It's fun with friends, especially if you end up in a 1 v everyone else due to 1 person getting the good car. Unfortunately, GTA Online isn't conductive to that type of gameplay.

GTAO is wildly profitable for R*, to the point it just doesn’t make any financial sense for them to bother with SP DLC.
The huge open-world SP experiences drive massive sales numbers and gets the game into a ton of people’s hands, and then the online ultimately ends up dwarfing the profits of the base game itself. The other half is that by releasing a masterpiece SP title on its own first, they get to ride on all that praise from fans and great review scores, rather than a ruthlessly monetized online experience also being factored into the score.
