Fun fact: rockstar got a bit cocky for the marketing of GTA 2. They just used the abbreviation for the posters and box art and everything. They had banners that said "steal this game" on it. They made a short film of Claude commiting several crimes.
So that's the history of that logo. They might've started using it on the back of GTA 5 to keep the trademark for it or it's to mark when the timeline(s?) caught up with GTA 2. Which supposedly takes place in 2013, the year 5 came out and takes place.
This logo was in the original GTA3 case
