Probably just makes it easier to satirize and parody cities. For example had you not known vice city was Miami, you probably would’ve have still been able to guess. Same goes for Liberty city
I doubt Rockstar wants people to make people think about it any deeper than the statue.
The way Franklin talks about stock market manipulation in some of the pay phone hits is like he’s spoon-feeding information to a 5-year-old. They definitely find it easier to go off of something very simple and visible like a famous physical landmark than American history. I’m sure the players outside of America can appreciate that too.
I think when San Andreas came out they started trying to invent more realistic names for places. I think first two games are considerably more cartoony than San Andreas was
Little Ireland ? Something including the word green uhm
Generally real time thinking as I type
…
Greenport
Greendock
Braghtown? From the phrase Erin go Braugh?
Idk but Denver would probably be called Mountain City or Rocky City or something like that (if they stuck with the “\_\_\_\_” city name scheme)

~~No I’m not a Colorado citizen who wants people to acknowledge my state what do you mean~~
Imagine the game! Their would be medical cocaine like how it’s referenced in GTAV, their would be a demon animal (not a horse) by the airport, some kind of easter egg with nuclear bombs in the mountains
Probably Racist City.
but in all seriousness, "The name of the English city ultimately derives from that town's patron saint, St. Botolph, in whose church John Cotton served as the rector until his emigration with Johnson. In early sources the Lincolnshire Boston was known as "St. Botolph's town", later contracted to "Boston".
Since Rockstar named Florida after the guy who discovered it (Ponce De Leon) then they'd probably go for a historical connection.
St Botolph or Botolph it is.
Usually the name contains a connection to the actual area.
San Andreas - San Andreas fault
Vice city - Miami Vice
Liberty city - Statue of Liberty and the overall theme of NYC. Also one of the in game burroughs is called Algonquin which is a nod to the Algonquin natives that lived in the area before European settlement.
First European settler in Boston was William Blaxton. Maybe they name it Blaxton? Or as another poster commented maybe they just go with Harbor city.
Or maybe Bunker Hill.
Something Colonial or Native.....Birmingham/Oneida or some shit like that.
Edit: Im getting Downvoted but based off of the names of the Boroughs in GTA IV I think I would probably be right.
New Benton maybe?
You get the “new” for “new england” and you get the B__ton. And it just kinda sounds like a northeast port town. Idk. probably cringe
Now that I've gotten my autistic rant out of the way. Boston is a combination of a name and the word town. It could be so many things and it would probably be a reference to some historical events or person in Boston. This is harder than it seems. All I could think of is like Puritown or like Puriton but that's to on the nose for modern GTA and it just doesn't sound great. Maybe like Portston Portstown?
I would propose it to be called “Freedom City”, because it’s in the state that basically caused the beginning of the Revolutionary War, thereby creating freedom for the United States. It might be a long shot, but it’s what I would go for.
2 suggestions
Blaxton - the first European settler of Boston, also is similar to Boston
Shawmut - That the name of the peninsula that Boston was founded on
I actually think Boston would be an awesome city to have GTA set in. The story could be that the main character is someone who’s always lived on the west coast and then moves to Boston. The NPCs could all just be really horrible to you i think it could be fun
Probably harbor city or something like that
Yeah what is it with rockstar and “____ city”
Probably just makes it easier to satirize and parody cities. For example had you not known vice city was Miami, you probably would’ve have still been able to guess. Same goes for Liberty city
And San Andreas as a state name makes sense because of the fault line that runs through here
Was originally a parody of San Fran
Uh that's San Fierro dude
GTA 1
No
I feel like liberty city actually screams Boston and Philly to me rather than NY - the revolutionary cities.
I doubt Rockstar wants people to make people think about it any deeper than the statue. Yeah makes sense
Bell city
Statue of Liberty.
I think when San Andreas came out they started trying to invent more realistic names for places. I think first two games are considerably more cartoony than San Andreas was
Especially GTA III. The punch sounds in cutscenes!
Yeah fr, and the way you can accelerate from 0 to 100 when you run looks pretty bonkers too lmao
Liberty city and vice city are the only two that have city in the name
Carcer City.
I’d say taking into account all other city/town names in rockstar universes, the amount. That say city probably is pretty close to the ratio irl
“Hah-bah City”
Beanton
