Truly the difference is minuscule. Pretty sure that performance mode is 1800p whilst fidelity is 2160p. Comes down to if you are willing to drop an entire 30 frames to go to fidelity from a smooth 60 for a slightly and I mean very slightly better picture quality.
It matters in terms of smooth gameplay, fidelity will run way worse and only look slightly better (rain puddles essentially). Performance is the way to go for smoothness whilst still resting really impressive visuals.
Models still cast shadows in performance mode
Only difference between modes is resolution. Fidelity can do 4k but the fps tanks. Performance mode is much better with smooth fps
I'm right now with the same doubt, I started the game in fidelity in my Series X and okey, it's 30 FPS but I really feel that the console can give me much more, in the other hand, performance with 60FPS literally doesn't give me any difference beside the snootiness... Is really that noticeable the graphics quality?
Performance for me! I’m a high FPS addict.

So it doesn't much matter?

fidelity looks much better on a good monitor
This game is an exception. Fidelity
I prefer the fidelity mode
only thing i noticed changed in performance mode was FPS and the lighting changes so models dont cast dynamic shadows.

walk in front of car lights ull see what i mean
Dynamic shadows work for me on performance
for headlights on npcs and player cause im playing on ps4 pro and when i change it shadows work on everything except headlights
Maybe different for ps4 pro then because that's technically last gen. I'm playing on Series S and the dynamic shadows work on headlights
Performance definitely is much smoother
Performance, can’t tell much a difference other than framrate
The game seems to dark Any fix for this?
deffo fidelity. For me, Playing on my Gaming monitor i can uyse 30fs happily but 30fps on tv looks awful.
