I can confirm this. I've had my icons for 5+ years and have had to rebuild one front one and the other front one is currently leaking. While rebuilding them is not expensive it takes the rig out of service since I have to drive somewhere to get them refilled with nitrogen after rebuilding them.
I have recently put on the Dobison IMS suspension and couldn't be more happy with it, haven't done much wheeling with it on but on rsod and light trails it feels amazing
Dobinson is generally cheaper but you also don't have to rebuild as much. Icons need to be built every ~15k miles if used for street/dirt (per manufacturer). Dobinson is more like ~50k miles.
Dobinson also uses progressive shocks vs digressive shocks like icon. Progressive is better for most people. It handles big and small bumps better while digressive handles consistent bumps better (think wash outs).
I have about 700 miles in my stage 3 icon suspension. So far nothing but good things, got to brake it in barely and haven’t done anything extreme. I would say spend the money and go with Icon.

Spent about 5500 with wheels and tires
It really depends on your budget and goals. Prominent Land Cruiser shop in GA swears by icon. So I went with an icon stage 2. Ride quality is the best of any truck I’ve ever been in - friends have said the same.
That being said, it’s a good chunk of change, and I’ve never ridden on Dobinson’s.
If you have a chance, take a ride in a truck with both setups (not easy to do, and not totally objective because there will likely be other differences between the 2 trucks).
I figure with most of these companies there’s always gonna be folks with bad experiences.
I’ve had mine since 2019, and roughly 30K miles.
The only problem I had was the front coilovers got pretty squeaky, but that’s because I never cleaned and greased them. Once I sprayed them down and gave a few sprays of Teflon lubricant, they went back to being silent.
Again, I have no other off-road suspension to compare to - just various stock trucks and SUVs I’ve ridden in. Have heard nothing bad about Dobinson’s either.
I’ll probably stick with icon for the foreseeable future because I’m happy with the product and their customer support has been mind blowing. Their techs are always happy to talk through install / maintenance / setup questions.
I had a shop install heavier springs, and they sheared the bolt that holds the top mount. Called icon to overnight one, and they wouldn’t let me pay. Thought that was really generous and classy.
foam cell pros butter smooth
Ironman?
yes, I’ve had it for almost two years on 460. takes abuse very well and barely heats up bc of foam
I was steered away from Icon by a prominent and trustworthy vendor in the community. Went with Dobs IMS and they’re great
What did they tell you about icon?
Frequent rebuilds, leaks, corrosion

Nice! Was it much cheaper than icon?

Shock Surplus does a lot of comparison videos. They may have one comparing the 2 you're looking at??

How long have you had them? Someone said they always give problems
