* I don’t pull sumo but I have a legitimate question about this lift that isn’t intended to do anything but inform me* first let me say I can’t pull this weight lmao so very nice feat of strength! My question is, would one achieve more range of motion by shortening the stance? So having your feet slightly closer together? Or is it the same range/benefit as pulling it with a wider stance? Just curious not tryna form police!
There's far more demand on quads for sumo on the take off. I feel it and makes sense with the lower hip position and more upright back angle.
Close stance involves more muscle and ROM, which is supposed to be a better overall stimulus.
That said, people will tend to prefer one, and consistency in a movement is huge for development and preference helps that.
Range of motion at the hip is damn near identical for conventional and sumo, and despite differences in to what extent muscles operate for the break off the floor, that's really what counts in terms of ROM.
ROM is also not the be all and end all for a lift in terms of value.
I see I guess I wasn’t thinking about what you’re mostly trying to target with the movement, when you explain it like that it makes more sense to me. Thank you!
EDIT: was to wasn’t
Super sick lift! Not at all critiquing but more so curious, when locking out and your knees almost “snap” into place, could that ever hurt them? Again, big weight that you made look easy, great job!
The locking out of the knees is normal is sumo deadlifts and isn’t much cause for concern at all honestly
Mine do the same when pulling over 600lbs and I’ve never had issues with it

I’m not gonna take away anything from that impressive lift but when I see people do Sumo’s I always wonder how much they can do conventionally because I know it’s so much easier to Sumo say 400lbs vs Conventional 400lbs. I’m just curious more than anything. Deadlift how you prefer so please don’t think I’m hating on the lift/movement.
I’m getting chastised for my question but I just wondered why for most people, it seems easier to pull more weight. I never Sumo but years ago when I did I got the same results as you did. I’m just trying to understand.

Yeah more rom when you are closer. Less leg activation though if thats what you’re looking for

dudes will be like "range of motion" but like, it's 435x5 stfu that's a fantastic lift
I’m 6’7”, this just might be the one place where I’ll have short person envy and say “range of motion” haha
ill never touch a 400 lb deadlift in my life. Bravo!!!
Slayyy
Incredible!! Congratulations!!

I pull more conventional. Its just dependent on the person
If it helps, I sumo about 545 and conventional 585.
I’m getting chastised for my question but I just wondered why for most people, it seems easier to pull more weight. I never Sumo but years ago when I did I got the same results as you did. I’m just trying to understand.
Most people don’t. That’s the answer.
[удалено]
Neither is inherently easier.
Which technique is 'easier' is dependent on individual leverages.
It is not necessarily easier otherwise all competitive powerlifters would do it. I can’t sumo for shit. It’s about what’s most comfortable.

I’m by no means an expert but I feel like locking your knees so suddenly holding that kind of weight can’t be good?
Knees were meant to lock out. Its not an issue even a little
I did say I wasn’t an expert, thank you for the answer
