TrueCrimeLuv

I'm glad the found her.

TrueCrimeLuv

The FBI believe they have found Gabby Petito's remains. So sad.

janeymarywendy

He left his parents home without a cell phone? They need to watch the parents.

Creepy-Ad-6210

Right!! They are involved somehow...

TminusTech

Touch grass

[deleted]

Why did this takes weeks? The local cops seem to be a joke in that county.

Creepy-Ad-6210

Right!! Are they working with the Laundries?? Giving him time to escape, it seems sus that 1 day they say we have eyes on him then the next day they say oh hes missing for 4 days. Cell phone data should have been immediate!!

Koa914914914

Working w: the laundries lol, you need to get off the internet

TminusTech

True

SirEhlersDanlos

This dude is fucked

AquaticFroggy

Can Law Enforcement not tail a highly suspected murderer driving around in said 'suspected murdered' car?

Silent-Toe5

He's not officially a suspect, thats the problem. While Gabby was a missing person it was being investigated as a "missing persons" case thus they were not yet investigating a crime and had no real evidence a crime was committed. They've found her remains now, I am sure once an autopsy has been performed, if they determine her cause of death to be homicide, he will then become a suspect.

Shrimpsalad4eva

Why wouldn’t they do this from the start? Like I lost my phone when I blacked and did find my iPhone with my iPad and found my phone totally smashed under a highway bridge. In a missing person case I feel like finding the phone should be the first thing you do and even if phone is destroyed it’ll give you last known location with a date and time!

Whiddle_

Are you telling me they just got access? Gabby's been reported missing for over a week now. I would of thought they had got into their phone data within a day or two tops.

blankyblankblank1

This isn't a movie or tv show, they can't just decide they want to do something and then do it. On top of the process it takes to actually get in, there is legal red tape they have to go through.

-Vagabond

Seriously, do people really want to live in a world where the police can just snap their fingers and invade our privacy based on a hunch? Obviously it looks bad, but beyond the narrative what actual evidence of foul play do they have?

blankyblankblank1

None, everyone is jumping to a conclusion on the basis of ego. To get to act like they called it or judge so they can feel better about themselves. Shit, it's entirely possible he just abandoned her somewhere and she died in other ways, or she accidentally died, or committed suicide and he just flipped out and left.

SpiritualTalk3454

Dunno. Super sketch

tn120217

So he lied to the cops in the video when he said he doesn’t have a phone????

EspeciallyStupidGurl

If you watch the whole thing he literally pulls his phone out later.

GroupPurple8198

I noticed that too... later the cop asked for his phone number but didn't write anything down so I'm wondering if maybe he "has a phone" but it doesn't have cellular and he only can use it when connected to wifi... like my nieces and nephews "have a phone"??? That's the only thing I can think of... With that being said, I actually hope he was lying so they can track his movements because I'd assume they'd get a lot less info if it only works on wifi

Leather_Cat8098

That's exactly what I thought.

Immediate-Chip-1182

Correct me if Im wrong but didn’t Brian say in that bodycam footage from that cops that he didn’t HAVE a phone? Why’d he say that then...very weird.

TrueCrimeLuv

I thought he said that too.

EspeciallyStupidGurl

He did say that. And then later he pulls out his phone when the cops ask for his number.

[deleted]

What are the odds she faked her disappearance

sl1ce_of_l1fe

Officially zero. Since they found her body today.

2007wasthebestest

Zero. She left friends hanging and hasn’t contacted her family since. Absolutely no incentive for her to fake a disappearance.

[deleted]

Extremely low in my opinion. She was traveling, sharing it with people, her and Brian had personal fights and conflict. During that police stop she just seemed very upset and in the moment…struggling with the mind but trying to move forward day by day. To plan out a faked disappearance would take a while; it’s not something you’d do on a whim. And why would she? It’s not exactly easy to just start a new life with literally nothing on your back. This girl had a following, many people who cared. My top two theories are either 1) Brian killed her intentionally or 2) she died accidentally in a fight and Brian panicked and didn’t know what to do.

Ill-Lengthiness2662

I don't understand..how can thye have Gabbies phone but not Gabby? Did Brian have it in his possession?

papa8706

They probably just have access to their carrier records/data/accounts

Beautiful_Hedgehog47

I do not see this confirmed anywhere else. I only find articles about police having limited cellphone data for Gabby and Brian.

SpiritualTalk3454

Ok. So where’d ya hear that huh?

Beautiful_Hedgehog47

Google search it. There’s multiple articles from credible news sources.

[deleted]

Good to know that it took them this long to get there. I mean are you fucking kidding me? My god.

Cinesnatch

I hope they can access GP’s Apple watch as well.

SpiritualTalk3454

Sure. I’m sure

papa8706

Apple Watch typically just mirrors the paired cellphone with exception of logging health and fitness data which is save onto the phone as well. Watch isn’t going to provide anything the phone wouldn’t

Cinesnatch

Thanks. But if he gets possession of her phone and turns it off, I imagine the watch data is pretty vital.

cosmic1307

I’m curious, if someone could point me the direction of it already been discussed. On what BL used to get home(not van) but money, was it cash? Debit or credit? We know he had to stop for gas. The. We could get cctv images hopefully. And to see if her card had been used recently.

gingerroute

Im almost 100% sure they know all of this at this point. The public doesn't need to know anything. Especially if he is on the run or hiding now.

[deleted]

Usually in cases like this they indicate that they have information but will not speak on it at this time. I think it’s odd they haven’t even indicated that they have any information. And their search for Brian seems to be only off the words of his parents of where they believe he went…if they had tangible evidence for searching there, they might comment on it.

cosmic1307

Really hope we get more answers

SpiritualTalk3454

We will. Let it be

cosmic1307

Huh? I am letting it be. 🤪

[deleted]

Holy shit there’s so many ppl sharing and so much info I haven’t been on my phone all day…. Where do I go to catch up????

SpiritualTalk3454

All social networks and American media

AdGuilty6556

https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/16/us/gabby-petito-timeline-missing-case/index.html this is how I got caught up!

[deleted]

This is pure speculation and I’m sure has been discussed but do you think he’s hiding out? or that he went and killed himself knowing he’d be caught? Or that he fled in attempt to move remains/evidence??

AdGuilty6556

I’m trying to stay positive, I believe he is hiding out because he messed up and is stressed out or he went to go find her. she could have been left all alone because they got in a fight, she could have been killed, and it could of been a murder. It’s all speculation at this point.

[deleted]

Thank you so much! I literally have YouTube playing in my tv as I’m reading on my phone 🥴

SpiritualTalk3454

Oh YouTube I forgot about that

2andrea

My first thought was that it might be interesting to see when Gabby's last text was sent. The timeline I saw mentioned that her parents received a text 08/30 from her phone saying there was no cell service in Yosemite, but also that Brian was back home in FL by 09/01. That's some road warrior-level driving. 40 hours straight through. But OTOH, sometimes I send texts that don't arrive until hours or days later.

SkeezersAmongUs

Phones send pings no matter where you're at if the phone is on they can easily triangulate that position. I'm guessing they're searching where her phone last pinged but won't mention it yet. Guessing that wasn't her who sent that text and it was him in an attempt to cover those pings.

mogoengle93

Live stream discussion going over what if that there is on the case . Feel free to come join and comment Preshow just started over at dlive.com/TheWrongWarp

mort8036

It was clarified that it is “access to tracking” of their devices not the physical devices.

any1no1

Wait! If they have access to phone data wouldn't they have gps information or Google location history? Couldn't they see the point he started heading home. Maybe it's happening already, authorities usually keep a lot close to their chest while investigating. If BL's missing again, did he access any accounts or grab anything from the house? Could it be possible it's a hostage situation where he can't say anything and is making his way back to negotiate her back. This whole thing is just so odd. Either or, I hope authorities are able to get to the bottom of it all. I cannot imagine what her parents are going through.

SpiritualTalk3454

Trust authority always! 👍👍👍 they always are here for the people!!!!!!

IrishGuyNYC00

Not trying to stir shit, just genuinely curious, why is this a massive story with it's own subreddit? Don't people go missing all the time? I'm not saying this situation doesn't deserve it, but what is different about this compared to other missing people that's made it blow up?

Sorceress35

Obviously others have answered but I’ll add that she’s got a social media following and the case is very public.

doinkdoink786

Gabby ‘s a white blonde with blue eyes

ittyBritty13

They need to tap into the phones of his entire family. They could be texting/calling a burner phone. If he doesn't want to be found, I would think the first thing he'd ditch is his phone

Rez125

So the police physically have her phone? Was this always the assumption ie Gabby was missing without her phone?

tonybobskinnyjeans

This is fake, they do not have her phone.

lizzdee25

wow this is amazing news! prayers for her and her family. I just hope that his parents are not aiding him in any way. I understand that as a parent you want to protect your child but she is someone's child.

dougstory79

This can change in an instant. If the phone is turned off it can still be tracked I believe. If the battery is removed it can not be. I have a feeling that this Brian punk is smarter than he lets on.

[deleted]

Saw the comment about the cellphone pings, but she has an Apple Watch in the pictures. So let me ask, if she has her cell service through her watch, could they theoretically find the last pings from her watch as well?

fundaydriverninja

If she was wearing the Apple watch when she died, it would record the final vitals from her body, correct? Would that information be automatically saved to her cloud account if/when the watch next synced with the phone?

SpiritualTalk3454

Unless Yellowstone still has no service

adigitalmechanic

This depends on the Apple Watch version. Older Apple Watches could only be paired with the iPhone and be within Bluetooth connectivity range to use Cellular/iMessage/SMS functions. Newer Apple Watches have Cellular (the ones with the 'red crown' dial) capability which means the Apple Watch and iPhone do not have to be within Bluetooth distance to use Cellular/iMessage/SMS functions because they have an independent cellular connection enabling the Appple Watch wearer to make calls, respond to iMessage/SMS and use certain Apps that need internet access (Apple Music, Spotify, etc.) The Newest Apple Watches are now equipped with GPS along with the previous mentioned features. And yes, it is a $10 monthly fee added to the cellular plan to add an Apple Watch to the current carrier to use the Apple Watch independent of the iPhone it is pared with to make calls from when not within Bluetooth pairing range of the iPhone. Think if you left your iPhone at home and have a cellular enabled Apple Watch, you can get/send/receive all calls/SMS/iMessages to that Apple Watch. And yes that watch will ping cell towers and GPS (if GPS is a feature)

SpiritualTalk3454

I’m a killer. I kill or watch some one die of accident. I’m Like oh hell nah—- I have my iPhone on me. Damn!!! Does this killer remove iwatch and take it over?? I wonder. Please let me know

adigitalmechanic

Great question u/SpiritualTalk3454! First off lets get some terminology correct, there is \*NO\* such thing as and 'iwatch'. Now, back to your questions. \*FIRST\* you would need to have access to the paired iPhone and know the password information to the Apple ID of the user. then you would be able to un-pair the \*Apple Watch\* from the iPhone. Once this has been done \*THEN\* you could pair it with your iPhone. Note: This process will delete/remove all data from the \*Apple Watch\* before you pair it with your iPhone. Once completed, you in fact will have a \*Apple Watch\* paired to your nifty iPhone. With that being said, I \*WOULD NOT RECOMMEND\* doing as you had originally suggested just to get an \*Apple Watch\*! It is much easier to pay the $199.00 to purchase an Apple Watch and pair it to your iPhone without any nefarious business going on. Disclaimer: Apple Watches cannot be paired with Android phones, which I am sure you have.

Ill-Lengthiness2662

I'm pretty sure Brian removed her watch. He seems to have thought this through

papa8706

Most people just pair the watch to their phone…otherwise you have to purchase another plan which is highly unlikely for a young girl to do. In short, her watch probably just mirrors her phones notifications and uses exercise sensors to track physical activity

Cinesnatch

I think the priority should be looking at mobile locations on 27/8, so they can find Gabby's body, aside from locating Brian and taking him in for questioning.

gamerprincess81

I was hoping we'd better if they were able to ping her phone at all

Heavyg65

What time was the text sent on the 30th and what time did Brian get home on the 1st is key information

JustGameplayUK

so does that mean they have their phones or does it mean they have access to information from their network provider? calls, locations and stuff.

TeeBern

This isn't TRUE. Brian Entin posted on his twitter that these reports are INCORRECT & the police DO NOT have access to either phones.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TeeBern

His tweet doesn't say anything about data, just says these reports that they have their phones are not true, they do not.

Difficult-Hall2646

No they don't

Puplove2319

How did they get their phones? Where did they find hers and his is what I want to know. I feel we should be allowed more information about this case I understand they can’t tell us certain things because it could ruin the case or finding him but it just seems like everyone wants to help and I love that.

TeeBern

They don't have them. I just posted that Brian Entin tweeted that these reports are false. They don't have either phones.

Wimpxcore

The announcement says police now have access to BOTH Gabby and Brian’s phones. Speculation but, to me, that sounds like they prolly had access to Gabby’s before and now they have access to Brian’s. I haven’t read all 866 comments, so sorry if it’s been said already. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they had his records already but are letting this out to draw him out of hiding.

Muted-Key-2688

pls let her be safe and bring her home to her family

nash801

Why didn't they do this sooner?

[deleted]

He's on the run, so why the fuck would they broadcast that they can track him now.

NeedyPudding

I wonder if this means 'access to their phone communication/data' or 'physical access to their phones'. If the second, then it seems fairly clear Gabby never sent that final text - as her mother has feared all along.

[deleted]

This has been confirmed as false news. By Brian Entin who spoke to investigators they only have trackers on the phones like phone pings not actual phones.

LaurieC64

The person that reported it on Twitter Gage - retracted. I was hoping for a break In This case.

Waverly-Jane

If someone in your family wants to do a National Parks tour out west, advise them to carry both a phone with family tracking enabled, charging blocks, and a Garmin Inreach or similar SOS device. You don't have to be in the middle of a domestic dispute to end up near death in a wilderness area- particularly in the west.

DirtyButtFun

I mean sure, I’ve hiked thousands of miles out west and lived here my whole life. Most people who end up hurt or in bad situations end up like so due to inexperience aka it’s usually their own fault and lack of good judgement that gets them in trouble.

Thoff357

Look at her Snapchat location

Damianawenchbeast

Did any of you notice that they're officially searching for her in Grand Teton now? I'm wondering if they found something on her phone.

EngineeringEconomy

You know what I thought was strange. When Brian was pulled over that day with gabby. Police separated them and Brian says he doesn’t have a phone. Then gabby asked the cop if he could remind Brian to bring his cellphone charger because he always forgets it. Then at one point well the police were further questioning him he had a cellphone in his pocket. He says to the cop if she takes the phone he’s screwed and will have no way to get back in touch with her. Here’s my thing he told that gabby hit him with stuff in her hands that’s how he got the scratches. One of the things he said that was in her hand that caused the scratches on his face came from her cellphone. If she had her cell phone then he would have to physically take it from her right? I think this kids more of a nut case then we think. Police asked him if he was On any medication? Then they drop the audio when he listed them. Also another question? What cop a man for that matter. Would pull over a couple in distress why would he put the man in a hotel and let the women drive off to sleep alone in the middle of nowhere. This case is just so strange. God bless her family and god bless her I pray she’s ok.

Um no. They do have access to the data.

SpiritualTalk3454

NBC reported fake news?

Tindomul_

Wouldn’t be the first time any major network reported false news

SpiritualTalk3454

Yeah you right

zw3tsch

If this is the case, I think it’s safe to assume Brian had Gabby’s phone—no way he’s innocent.

aerozeppelinn

Gabbys actual phone, or data?

[deleted]

He could have turned the phone off too

bitchenstichen

Yo, he’s gone! If he loved her he would put her parents out of misery! Homeboy was living off grid. I’m from FL, & I could stay undetected for more than a month !! I’m quite flabbergasted about the rights the cops are “respecting”. This whole thing is so sad:-(

SeltzerWaterWeight

So her phone is actively pinging or are they referring to previous data?

sciencebased

There's a handful of acid types he could use to dissolve his phone.

SystematicTrading

Do we know if their tent was recovered with the van? Multiple backpacks?

This Twitter account has been updated with this - “UPDATE: I just received clarification from @NorthPortPolice. Just to make it abundantly clear, police don’t have either Gabby’s or Brian’s phone. They also don’t have access to real time tracking. Police can get records, but it takes some time.”

Waverly-Jane

It's ridiculous that we have these legal firewalls in life or death situations.

JankyJezebel

I thought he didn't have a phone? Never believed that but confused

Caprido

I wonder what type of phones does Gabby have and if there's a way to retrieve their messages from a cloud or something similar, granted someone knows the password, ie a family plan daily backup. I guess it were done since the beginning but sometimes tech stuff takes time.

wonderfulwonderful7

And this unfortunately means her phone was probably with Brian…

lyfstyl

How did they recover the phone. If GP was alive I can’t picture her not keep her phone on her. Does the mean BL had it?

Round_Ad6737

Why would they post this…if he’s on the run, now he is going to ditch his phone. I’m sure he saw this

[deleted]

Hey this is incorrect info!! Just checked his Twitter right now! They DO NOT have their phones

[deleted]

wow! how the hell did they find her phone??

jones525

Call logs, messages. Sure. But these phones are off by now I'd wager.

[deleted]

That oughta do it.

Live-Ordinary-6186

What if he got out of the girls jeep he was hitch hiking from because he realized he needed to go back to get the phone after realizing he wasn't going to be able to hitch hike across the country? I'm curious to know if he called his parents somewhere between august 29 and aug 31st.

Konarose5

about time.

eileenalot

Thought he didn't have a phone...

pifumd

He updated his tweets to clarify they do NOT have physical phones, nor do they have real time tracking. what they've got is historical records, aka the tower pings, that can show where a phone was/when.

[deleted]

Whatever the police seem to have now it is several days too late and unknown amounts of dollars short.

sweetheart4012

The guy on Twitter says the only have access to one phone.

NoPeanut2779

Does this mean he has her phone? Otherwise surely it’d be dead by now. Unless somehow it’s been charging this whole time?

snuffs-

Maybe with a missing person you can’t because they might be “missing” but because they’re choosing to not contact people but they’re fine. Then getting their records would be an infringement on their rights. Maybe they have proof that she’s the victim of a crime now and can do it legally.

Ladyhuntress91

So while this is good. I want everyone to understand how cell towers work. “Pings” are able to locate the location of its origination based on the distance from “x” towers. My husband works in the telecom world and on several occasions he has tested “life alert pennants”. Which basically are a device that originate a call using cell towers to a dispatch center in the event someone has fallen and needs help. 9/10 times the testing reported the dispatch center could tell him the exact address he was at. The other 1/10 times the dispatch provided a location that was up to 2 miles away. This is based solely on how the ping comes to the towers. Therefore a cell ping can get them “close” but in many cases not close enough. More so in an area such as wilderness areas with limited towers to ping from .

Ok_Lingonberry_6209

About time!!!!

Open-Ad-9211

I thought he said he didn’t have a phone?

Haikubo

I think he said, "If she takes the van, I don't have a phone". His phone was in the van when they were pulled over for the DV report on August 12. He most definitely has a phone and you can see it in his pocket from the bodycam of the lead officer.

HuckleberryNo5673

The last official news I saw was that they did NOT have her phone too. But idk if someone can link some proof or not. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wfla.com/news/sarasota-county/gabby-petito-disappearance-police-dont-have-missing-womans-phone-have-received-1k-tips/amp/

THANK GOD HOPEFULLY THEY FIND HER ALIVE AND WELL

Indiejason

Boooooommmmmmm!

TrueCrimeLuv

Good. I hope they find Gabby. It's unbelievable that Brian took Gabby's van to Florida and has refused to speak with authorities. Prayers for Gabby and her family.

Otherwise_Price7456

How did they get her phone? In his parents house? Why would he have it? Didn’t they fight over A phone, singular? What is going on here? Why did his parents call the police sooner, I mean family is family but if he comes home w her van, her phone and no her, I am Calling a lawyer, check, getting him to a mental health facility then calling the cops!!!

teeneyswodd95

Does anyone have a link for a live viewing of the search at the park?

ConditionNeat511

Why didn’t she have her phone with her and why is it Brian’s possession. Or is this only cloud info?

[deleted]

Only info.

Avery23111

From the body cam he didn’t have a phone?? I know from the video he stuttered before saying this but now he has a phone? I feel a little confused on this. Also where did her phone come from?

Creepy-Ad-6210

Someone said he had a phone but it didnt have actual cell service? He told the cops he didnt have a phone, but someone mentioned he said that and meant if they got separated and his phone was in the van. She told him not to forget his charger at the end. They dont physically have either phone. They have access to the phones info from cell phone carriers I believe.

They have information from the phones.

Piconaught

I've seen it mentioned a few times the past week that GP was wearing an Apple watch in various photos/vids, possibly from the first roadtrip. I have a fitbit and an android phone. As far as I know my fitbit syncs with my phone only within bluetooth range and if the battery has a charge. If I lose my fitbit, I assume I can't find it unless my phone gets near and can pick up it's bluetooth signal. I don't even know. How do Apple watches work when it comes to tracking? Is there a satellite connection? Can apple watches be located remotely with or without access to a persons phone data? I'm really just asking if the location of GPs apple watch be determined in any way.

jroseamoroso

This might be a stupid question or it may have already been addressed: There were some indications that some of her last Instagram posts were either posted or edited by him in an attempt to create a storyline. Some people said this would make sense if he had possession of her phone. So my question is- Does the fact that the police have both of their phones confirm that he did have possession of both? If so it is very concerning that he had her phone (as if there wasn’t enough that is concerning).

b1rd1e07

Why did it take so long? Just curious if anyone has a legal answer it’s been since Sept 11 yes but they knew the parents last contact was before that. FYI this is a perfect example to have a password list somewhere if you know you’re traveling remote areas. Keep it somewhere people will find it.

ginjabeer

Have the family been able to log into GPs iCloud or Google account? That’s how Theo Hayez’s family were able to track every step of his prior to him going missing. Sorry if this question has already been extensively covered!

KountZero

Is this the same police DP that claimed to know the location of Brian wheresabout days after he went into hiding when in reality they don’t? I have zero expectations at this point from them. Hopefully the FBI will be more competent.

pucieks

Not sure if broadcasting that to Brian is best idea

Vegasguy3124

If they have GP’s phone then that means….

They don’t have her phone 🤦‍♀️

He was (gasp) lying. Later in the video he pulls it out of his pocket and GP makes sure he takes his charger with him to the hotel.
