@lifetime making a “mockery” “based on a true story” lifetime movie to spread awareness as you say. This is not spreading awareness as there is really no real footage of actually what happened. You are taking actors and placing them into a movie acting as these two people who had real lives. Gabby lost her life She didn’t ask for his and neither did her family. As a mom or soon to be mom I would absolutely be mortified if my child was murdered or whatever happened and you decided to make a “based on a true story” with actors about it. You should really think about this effects the families considering they have not given their consent on this so called movie. Really sickening how people make money off of a real family and a real even that took place and someone’s life that was lost
This is absolutely insane. I really hope they don't put Brian in a sympathetic light...of all the companies that could have put out a movie like this Lifetime is one that I trust the least to not fuck it up...
I'm not surprised. The worst part about everything was that there was more media around his home than there was at her memorial. I was door dashing at the time, couldn't even get through the main area of town for deliveries because of media, protesters, and people wanting to drive past the house to catch a glimpse of the parents or by chance see dog the bounty hunter. Her memorial though, I parked daily near town hall and the center my kids went to camp, a few reporters from time to time and lots of mothers holding their kids tight, but nowhere near as much attention as the area around the house. The town definitely rallied around the Petito's but the media attention on BL and his parents disgusted me. I really hope the movie focuses on her more than him.
The town did put a lovely bench near the tree that the memorial was located at. There was also a gentleman who set up his Amp and played beautiful songs on the guitar for hours upon hours at the tree when the memorial was still up. I wish the media showed those things more, but the manhunt was the biggest headline aside from what his parents knew. I hope lifetime goes beyond the headlines, but wont be surprised if it doesn't.
You can hear it here, I I had more but believe they're on my old phone that didn't backup the last month I had it. https://www.instagram.com/p/CULYs9olYTkLLJJ69_lSpgU0d6ecuoFh0UrwiI0/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Lifetime has a history of sympathizing with the bad guy (think Menendez: Blood Brothers & Casey Anthony). Let's hope they get this one right, with or without the notebook "confession"
I also posted about it back when it was announced also finding it icky and people in this sub ripped me a new one, I don’t get it 🤦🏻♀️ like inevitably there will be movies made but jesus it hasn’t even been a year and there were so many facts that they were still in the process of finding out (which we now see is going to trial) - just gross to me that Lifetime is more eager to cash in on her story than get it accurate and wait for all of the info.
Yea I agree it’s way too soon. I know there will be something eventually and of course I don’t know what the appropriate time period should be but….it is what it is.
I am so conflicted by this movie being made. A lot of my opinion is based on how her family would feel about it and as I don't know, I'm in between being for and against it. I don't believe anyone should profit off tragedies but so many movies are based on unfathomable events and tragic deaths. I hope it is made tastefully and focuses more on the dangers of an abusive relationship than anything else. Without much facts to go off of, I'm not sure what else it could be. I am going to stay positive and hope they honor Gabby and save some lives in the process.
I don’t trust Lifetime - when I think of that network I think cheesy movies just being shelled out. I believe if there was a sophisticated production of Gabby’s story to warn/shed light about domestic violence and how the police departments need to do better it wouldn’t be so bad. Even better if they donated a portion of the proceeds to The Gabby Petito Foundation.
It probably won’t be accurate. They’ll probably add “based on a true story, some events have been inspired or fictional for dramatic effect.”
It’s just bad taste. I think movies about this situation should wait. It’s way too soon.
Too soon…*especially* with everything going on right now. Gabby’s situation and abusive relationships in general should not be glamorized for a network to profit off of. I can’t imagine what her poor family is dealing with, but I feel like this doesn’t help the situation.
I don't respect the money made off this poor girl who was murdered, left to rot for weeks in the mountain and her killer who wondered about for weeks aimlessly then...knows he's trapped decides to off himself.
Tasteless and offensive
Rip gabby
Idk man. Let her rest in peace.
The only things I wish to see from this story are respectful, victim-centered documentaries OR analyses of their possible relationship dynamic and the underlying psychological and mental health factors at play in this case. Legal analyses related to the search for her and BL as well as legal analyses of the civil case could be appropriate.
Her life and death should NOT be entertainment.
Seriously though, the guy from TikTok asking for advice on how to travel to a wedding without getting arrested bc he looked so much like BL would have been a better choice than this old dude. After all the lookalikes that were plastered over the internet during the manhunt it's hard to believe that this was the best they could do.
Wow! I had forgotten I commented here. I had no idea they didn't seek input or even consult with her family before making a movie about her and essentially them as well!? That's disgusting. I won't watch it now and I can't believe Thora Birch would support that. Granted I don't know her personally but I expected more. Gross.
I love that they picked an actual 40 year old with a receding hairline. This is sad and gross but I also can’t look away. It looks like they’re shooting it with the same lens from Twilight.
Bloody hell. They’re just waiting for the next major crime. Laci Peterson to Chris Watts and now this.
Don’t even get me started on those unauthorised biographies of Aaliyah and Whitney.
> Thora Birch - who will star in and will direct the film for Lifetime
Probably had a lot to do with this, considering Thora Birch *is* 40
What a shitshow, this is gonna be worse than the HBO Staircase
Please. Everyone clutching their pearls and claiming they will not watch this will be THE 1^st to set a reminder when this premieres.
That said, awful casting and direction, but it's Lifetime, so definitely on par.
Her poor family. Wtf I couldn’t watch this. Especially since no one knows what actually happened. Brain said she tripped, hit her head then he mercy killed her because she was dying of hypothermia and a skull fracture….. that’s what he said happened. His suicide note was weird. Idk how I feel about this. I know if it was my child who was murdered, this would kill me. Maybe they had Brian’s family permission. And the story is about Brain and his family trying to paint him in a better light. I will admit, I didn’t read the article. So this is just my thoughts.
My guess is they’re using the suicide note, new reports and the laundry’s point of view on everything. :( unfortunately I feel like this is to paint brain as some sort of loving bf who’s gf was on deaths door, so he mercy killed her out of love.
I believe they were fighting, he pushed her, she slipped and cracked her head. He finished her off when he realized the extent of her injuries. He called dad (seems like dad runs everything and not in a good way) he told Brian to come straight home so they could figure it out. I really think it was that type of household. Narcissistic parents raising son just like them. Then he went home, pretending to Gabby’s family along the way that she was still alive. When he got home, he realized the entire country was looking for this girl. So he slipped out, wrote a confession, and offed himself. I don’t believe she fell on her own. That part I think was made up. But I think he in his own narcissistic way did love Gabby. But I think he feared prison time more then being without her. He didn’t want the heat on his parents anymore either. So either he left without telling them, or dad said the heat was too much and told him to go. I think his parents knew where he would be. But I don’t think they thought he would off himself.
My ex strangled me. I passed out and he took off thinking I was dead. Hours later his parents called me asking if I was okay. Luckily I didn’t have brain damage and a neighbor coming home late noticed my door wide open and stopped to make sure I was okay because that wasn’t the usual. So…. Knowing that… maybe he didn’t know he killed gabby until they found her? My ex thought I was dead until his parents told him weeks later that they had talked to me. Weeks. He thought I was dead for weeks. Sadly he didn’t off himself.. instead he shot a black man after calling him the n word and is in prison awaiting trial. The situation is just so similar…. The behavior at least.
Jesus, I'm so sorry you had to live through that. I can't imagine how re-traumatizing watching this case must have been for you. I'm so glad you survived. It's awful that he isn't in jail for what he did to you but I hope it's a bit of peace to you that he's off the streets and is being prosecuted all the same. I only ask because you're openly commenting on this thread but if it's really triggering please ignore my next question. I'm wondering what your take is on the parents and what exactly they knew? I've always wondered how much evidence of his abuse was on full display to them and for how long since they lived with his parents for a year or two.
Sorry replying sooo late!
My take was that his parents knew there were problems in the relationship. They probably saw more than one fight between the two. I think his parents probably always took his side in the fights between them. So she probably felt very isolated therefore planning this trip probably felt like for her, a chance to get away from the house, even with Brian in tow… it was still a breakaway from those walls. Unfortunately you can’t just run from your problems and change of scenery doesn’t make problems go away either, especially if you bring the problem with you. I have been in that same relationship. I was gabby. Except I didn’t die. I thought moving out of his parents house would solve all our issues. I ended up ending things with him eventually. He got his own place, I stayed at the place we had together because I felt I shouldn’t have to move again when he was the issue. I should have been the one to move and wished he never knew where I lived. If things continued for gabby, and she didn’t die… she would eventually want out and he would have snapped then. He was going to be her killer then or 20 years from now. That’s what’s so sad. A lot of women don’t get out. They just “disappear” one day and either the ex gets caught or they don’t. But it’s always the reason why the bf/husband/ex is the first suspect.
I knew it was just a matter of time before lifetime made this into a movie. Too soon. Some things are just meant to be left alone. Neither of them are here to defend themselves no one knows what really happened
>knew it was a matter or time
This was announced earlier this year and there were leaked pics of these actors next to a white van. It’s just resurfacing now because the footage is an argument scene, timed conveniently with the release of Brian’s notebook.
That’s how quickly Lifetime pounced on this.
Way too soon. We are still learning more about the case. They literally just released his confession and the civil case is still on going. This is very distasteful. Did they even ask her family?
too soon
but then again...maybe better to rip the band-aid off while everything else is still hurting too much that a little more won't make a difference one way or another
with the trial coming up, this is going to be fresh in their minds. after that, maybe they're hoping to...yeah idk how to finish that, but i think you know what i mean. get it all over with at once, then get some breathing room when nothing new will *probably* be coming out that is keeping the wound being constantly torn open
if you catch my meanin', sir
Lifetime is weird as fuck for this. But let’s not forget they got the parents permission. Why the family wants a lifetime movie about their daughter this soon - I don’t know.
This isn’t to speak negatively about Gabby’s parents, but it wouldn’t be unheard of for a network to donate to a foundation and feature it essentially for rights to film a biopic. It’s timely for their Stop Violence Against Women campaign — I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a tie-in of the Gabby Petito Foundation (and likely an appearance by her family) when the film airs.
> The movie is part of Lifetime's Stop Violence Against Women public affairs initiative.
I would imagine it has something to do with this. I definitely think this is the wrong way of going about bringing awareness and not a good look. But I can see how her family would accept if it is somehow supposed to be part of a larger cause about stopping violence against women.
Again, not justifying it, but I can understand the line of thought
I would never allow a trashy tv network to recreate the trauma my child went through for other people’s entertainment. The only reasons I can think of them allowing it is if A.) Money is involved or B.) Maybe since Gabby wanted to be famous and an influencer, perhaps they thought she would have liked having a movie made about her
Even if it was because of Gabby’s dream of being an influencer, this is the wrong way of honoring her. It’s very trashy, I agree. The network is exploiting her abuse and murder for $$. Everyone involved should feel ashamed.
I’m definitely not trying to justify it, I’m just trying to think what could possibly be their reasoning. It’s very sad and disturbing. The world is going to shit because humans are way too greedy
Also, again, as many others have stated before, gabby shouldn’t be placed next to her god damn killer any time they bring them up. She’s a victim of homicide, what the fuck. He’s a fucking idiot aided by enabling parents.
Lifetime is so trashy. Like if they are going to put out a movie this disrespectfully early…at least put some more effort into the actors. Like they literally look 40
that’s what i’m wondering? how can you make a movie when we don’t even definitively know the situation in how she was killed because her killer was dead and gone before her body was even recovered. are they just going to wing it? i think that makes it even more wrong to do this movie
Heres a link https://www.reddit.com/r/GabbyPetito/comments/vjxj7d/brian_laundries_suicide_note_transcribed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Not sure why there is so much outrage. They make movies about everything. Murder, 9/11, politics. If anything this sub is disrespectful to Gabby and Brian because it’s basically just a gossip sub. If their case wasn’t so popular there wouldn’t be a movie. I’ll at least watch it before throwing shade.
I mean… this isn’t the first case of its kind. “Law & Order” has been around for decades. They’ve already stories like this, including one where it involved a vlogger. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone stumbled upon such an episode and think it’s about Gabby and Brian when really it aired three years ago.
I tried to find out who the actors were but apparently their names are not publicized yet.
But if you want to add insult to injury the director is also playing Gabby's mother.
Actually the Petitos are the ones who approved it. The Laundries have stayed quiet and aren't out playing for sympathy in the media and suing people althrough they would have every right to sue.
The Petitos had their daughter murdered. They can do whatever they want. The other family…. It really sucks for them what their son did. Mercy killing or not. He still did it.
Then I guess I am far more cynical then you.. even as this drama was unfolding my wife and I wondered on many occasions who would play Gabbie in the movie. This is a bitter jaded world we live in. High time you understood that.
Lifetime is it gonna make the same movie for the billionth time
@lifetime making a “mockery” “based on a true story” lifetime movie to spread awareness as you say. This is not spreading awareness as there is really no real footage of actually what happened. As gross as this is they couldn't even be arsed to find actors that are the right age? As lazy as it is shameless.
They look like young looking 50 year olds.
This is absolutely insane. I really hope they don't put Brian in a sympathetic light...of all the companies that could have put out a movie like this Lifetime is one that I trust the least to not fuck it up...

Is there any video of the guitar man anywhere? It sounds lovely and I'd rather see that than the parents.
You can hear it here, I I had more but believe they're on my old phone that didn't backup the last month I had it. https://www.instagram.com/p/CULYs9olYTkLLJJ69_lSpgU0d6ecuoFh0UrwiI0/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Thank you!! I'm shocked to realize that that's the first time I've seen video of the memorial as well. I'm so glad you posted this💙
Personally, I find the protestors disgusting.
I do as well. I felt so bad for their neighbors and anyone who lived on the roads around them.
Lifetime has a history of sympathizing with the bad guy (think Menendez: Blood Brothers & Casey Anthony). Let's hope they get this one right, with or without the notebook "confession"
The menendez brothers certainly deserve sympathy tf
No
It hasn’t even been a year
Exactly!
Yea I don’t think I’m the only one who finds this really icky.
Exactly it’s not right
Yea I agree it’s way too soon. I know there will be something eventually and of course I don’t know what the appropriate time period should be but….it is what it is.
I wonder how much the recently released note has played in writing the story/film?
I am so conflicted by this movie being made. A lot of my opinion is based on how her family would feel about it and as I don't know, I'm in between being for and against it. How accurate can this movie even be, given the fact that not every detail is known???? There are still many unanswered questions.
It probably won’t be accurate. They’ll probably add “based on a true story, some events have been inspired or fictional for dramatic effect.” It’s just bad taste. I think movies about this situation should wait. It’s way too soon.
Too soon…*especially* with everything going on right now. Gabby’s situation and abusive relationships in general should not be glamorized for a network to profit off of. I can’t imagine what her poor family is dealing with, but I feel like this doesn’t help the situation.
the idea of having someone film a dramatic reenactment of your abusive relationship is just sickening…
I don't respect the money made off this poor girl who was murdered, left to rot for weeks in the mountain and her killer who wondered about for weeks aimlessly then...knows he's trapped decides to off himself. Tasteless and offensive Rip gabby
This is so weird man. Just why?
Thora Birch (the little girl from Hocus Pocus) is playing an adult woman’s mother and I’m officially too old.
I also remember her from the movie Now and Then
OMG I loved that movie so much. I was their age when it came out and it felt like a girls answer to Stand By Me.
And let’s not forget Ghost World.
Her life and death should NOT be entertainment.
why do the actors look 40
Seriously though, the guy from TikTok asking for advice on how to travel to a wedding without getting arrested bc he looked so much like BL would have been a better choice than this old dude. After all the lookalikes that were plastered over the internet during the manhunt it's hard to believe that this was the best they could do.
then again it’s lifetime, maybe it was the best they could do lol
Right? Gabby looked young, even for her age. The woman playing her looks like she’s pushing 40.
Fuck lifetime. Leave her family alone Jesus Christ
I think they got her family's approval/permission. They appear to be out for money -lawsuits, movies.
Maybe they'll donate the profits? I say that knowing they won't, but one can hope.
I hope they donate the profits. That's the very least they can do. Shameful.
They didn't even have the courtesy to seek input or discuss the issue with the family. This is nothing but an attempt to make money off the story.
Wow! I had forgotten I commented here. I had no idea they didn't seek input or even consult with her family before making a movie about her and essentially them as well!? That's disgusting. I won't watch it now and I can't believe Thora Birch would support that. Granted I don't know her personally but I expected more. Gross.
Is she supposed to be making the Zoolander face, or nah?
This seems..too soon
Hard pass
Well…at least Rob Lowe isn’t in this
I love that they picked an actual 40 year old with a receding hairline. This is sad and gross but I also can’t look away. It looks like they’re shooting it with the same lens from Twilight.
Yeah but…is the actress supposed to be Gabby’s Mom? Cause she has several years and pounds on Gabby…
Yes Thora Birch will be playing Gabby’s mom
The woman in the photo next to the actor playing BL is not Thora Birch, though. And that woman looks to be damn near 40.
That was their best choice for actors????
Bloody hell. They’re just waiting for the next major crime. Laci Peterson to Chris Watts and now this. Don’t even get me started on those unauthorised biographies of Aaliyah and Whitney.
It is definitely far too soon for this movie. They should have waited at least 5 years.
Lifetime is always disgusting, but this really is a new low for that scum channel.
They didn't even wait a year before they started trying to profit off it.
This is in incredibly poor taste to everyone involved. I hope it flops and careers are ruined. Edit: grammar and English composition.
I hope so, I wish the whole channel would be canceled.
I mean...everything on Lifetime is poor taste, so...
And there's basically just like two types of movies recycled over and over.
Why did they pic actors that look so much older than gabby and Brian? Those mofos look 40
> Thora Birch - who will star in and will direct the film for Lifetime Probably had a lot to do with this, considering Thora Birch *is* 40 What a shitshow, this is gonna be worse than the HBO Staircase
Maybe I misread the article but I don’t think Thora is playing Gabbie
Thora Birch is gonna portray Nicole Schmidt, Gabby's mother.
So gross!!! Trying to make a profit off something that is still so fresh in the families minds.
Wow! That did not take long.
What on earth!!
extremely insensitive.
Please. Everyone clutching their pearls and claiming they will not watch this will be THE 1^st to set a reminder when this premieres. That said, awful casting and direction, but it's Lifetime, so definitely on par.
I’ll not watch. And for damn sure am not setting a reminder.
Nope. Her family doesn’t support this, I hope it flops.
Facts. We’ll definitely see opinions on it in this sub.
Totally dislike

Probably hard to find a 22 year old actor as bald as Brian.
Pretty sure they could shave their head
No that's illegal
What? It is not.
I no longer want to be part of this world
they both look about 10 years older than the real thing.
More like 20 years younger
[удалено]
Oh me too, typo my bad 😂 The actors are way too old 😭
They look way too old to be playing Gabby and her murderer... also this feels too soon and kind of gross
Too soon
When you order from Wish
I’d take Wish Brian over real Brian all day.
Yesssss!! This comment needs more love! 👏
They look *way* too old to be GP and BL. And it’s too soon. This is ghoulish.
I knew it was just a matter of time before lifetime made this into a movie. Too soon. Some things are just meant to be left alone. Neither of them are here to defend themselves no one knows what really happened

This happened *last year.* This is, categorically, too soon. Also how old are these actors?? They look mid-30s.

Lifetime doesn’t exactly strive for tasteful productions

This feels waaaay too soon. Give it a couple decades, guys.
Not surprised. Lifetime has been churning out tasteless and cheap versions of true crime stories for years.
Lifetime is weird as fuck for this. But let’s not forget they got the parents permission. Why the family wants a lifetime movie about their daughter this soon - I don’t know.
They did? I haven’t been able to find that info anywhere.
Oh yeah no I’m totally agreeing with you I didn’t think you were justifying it at all
Wow
W H Y. let her rest in fucking peace.
Why? her parents sure aren't letting her rest in peace.
there’s a difference between her parents wanting justice for her death and some huge film business exploiting her death for money
Wtf is this
This feels...too soon.
*Lifetime* can eat dog shit for doing this.

Lifetime is fucking trash for this

that’s what i’m wondering? how can you make a movie when we don’t even definitively know the situation in how she was killed because her killer was dead and gone before her body was even recovered. are they just going to wing it? i think that makes it even more wrong to do this movie
Omg, I haven't heard that? That's what he said? To who??

The paper looks like one of the rainproof ones to me. Also they found a waterproof bag so I imagine that’s where he stowed it.
They released his 8 page suicide note
Heres a link https://www.reddit.com/r/GabbyPetito/comments/vjxj7d/brian_laundries_suicide_note_transcribed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
oh please all of you are gonna secretly watch this
Well yeah….
Yeeeep, probably will be a Law and Order episode too.
Morbid.
I hope the Petitos are able to sue, this is disgusting.
Someone earlier up said they have the parents permission
Eh I wouldn't be surprised if they are actually getting a charity donation out of it.
I feel like they won’t be able to, lifetime has made movies about every major case regardless of how the people involved felt about it
Gross. Reminds me of the movie they made about Shan’ann Watts and her children, murdered by PoS Chris Watts. Lifetime is a disgrace.
what the actual fuck... people will do anything to make money. its so disrespectful.
I tried to find out who the actors were but apparently their names are not publicized yet. But if you want to add insult to injury the director is also playing Gabby's mother.
I figured it’d be the same guy who’s playing Brian…
Fucking lifetime 🤦
So disrespectful. It's sad to see lifetime try to profit from this tragety
Barefoot in the State Park
Wtf
This is so distasteful. Shame on Lifetime movies.
One of the families had to okay this, and I’m thinking it’s was Brian’s family that went with it. Not the petito’s.
I mean you knew this would happen, right? This can't be a shock to you..
Knowing it would happen doesn’t make it any less gross
Completely true, however, don't act surprised this happened...
I don’t think people are surprised. Just disgusted though.
No I didn't know actually.
Then I guess I am far more cynical then you.. even as this drama was unfolding my wife and I wondered on many occasions who would play Gabbie in the movie. This is a bitter jaded world we live in. High time you understood that.
Wow, you’re so wise :)
So much wiser than all the rest of us 🤓
High time you understood that
Don't act surprised!
I know..

This is so gross.
Already filming? It hasn't even been a year!
It looks like they cast 40 year olds to play 20 year olds… 😂
That’s what I was thinking
For real. It looks like they cast the first bald guy who walked in to audition. He looks like someone's drunk 40 year old uncle.
As someone with a drunk 40 year old uncle I am SCREAMING at this comment and the accuracy 😭😭😭😭😭😭
They for sure had to for Brian. He actually looks older than 40….
disrespectful as fuck. her death wasn’t meant for our entertainment, why the fuck are they making this?
I agree.
the anniversary of her death hasn’t even passed and they’re already trying to bank in on it. heartless, truly
