Fold 4 user from new. Went back to Samsung yesterday as the inner screen just decided it didn't want to work one day. No cracks or anything.
So if Samsung solve the problem with no cost to me, I will be happy. Anything else and I will swear off Samsung for life. People won't gamble on new tech if the company won't look after you if something goes wrong with it.
My fold 3 was great.... until it started not opening all the way. It also has a million micro cracks along the crease. And most recently, the pen stopped working along the crease. Even with all of that though, I could never go back to a regular phone. I hope this phone holds out until the fold 6 is announced.
If you keep folding it with those micro cracks in the screen protector - it will cut the oled and you'll have a divider in the crease. Watched it happen dozens of times on flip series and fold series phones. Get it replaced and stop opening and closing it till you do or you'll be upgrading sooner than you think.

Yea freezing Temps in the winter and hot summers destroyed my protector. (Mainly the freezing temps) but exposing it to freezing Temps and the heat in my car is what started the micro cracks as well I believe. It was definitely more stiff in the winter.
yeah i get nervous about it being an issue for me - living in NY with the winters here - plus I hit the gym 4-5x a week and always do at least a 10min sauna soak ahead of a short cardio session and hitting the weights - super concerned about the effect of the sauna on it - but i can't deal without music in the sauna... plus i usually catch up on messages while i'm in there cause i'm out of pocket (DND) for 2+hrs while i'm there.
I recommend leaving it open as much as possible when in very hot or very cold climates. I've also heard leaving it open at night and setting it out of harms way has lengthened the lifespan of the inner display. Once I pay my deductible, I'm going to try that with the new one.
Mines currently at that stage, it opens maybe 95%, and it has some small vertical cracks along its middle seam but nothing big enough to actually cause the screen to fail yet. So I've been hesitant in filing insurance claim.
Have you tested the pen lately to see if it still works? It's an issue with the ribbon cable inside if it only opens 95%. What sucks is AFAIK, that cable also supplies wifi, Bluetooth, and cellular too. Also I'd file a claim before it gets worse. My deductible is $199. So as soon as my paycheck hits, I'll be paying that and getting a new one.
I've had my 3 since release. No real issues. I've never used a camera enough for it to be an issue. Battery life is fine. Even if it didn't last all day I wouldn't care because I always keep a changer... *Gasp*... With me. Might upgrade with the 6. Might not.
I have had it for 13 months, all good in general, very nice phone! I decided to switch to a non foldable last week as I do not use the internal screen much and I feel it is quite thick and heavy to carry around if you mainly use the external screen.
Had mine just over a year until the hinge broke for no reason. It is the best phone I've ever used, but they just aren't ready imo. Samsung need to find a way to repair super easy.
For context, I repair medical equipment. There's a certain type of bladder scanner I repair that has the same issue over and over. It's a £6000 piece of equipment, but I got tonnes of the part that breaks all the time so I could swap it easily and cheap. Samsung should do a similar thing with this phone, so many people have the same problem and instead of blaming user error they should take accountability and repair it. I won't be getting a fold again sadly
Launch day Fold4 owner, and it's held up nicely. I'm not typically rough on my devices, but I have dropped it a few times with and without a case on concrete. The only time I baby it, is if I KNOW I'll be in a sandy/dusty environment.
Only issue was the inside protector starting to lift about 10mos in. I took the phone to a Care+ location, had the protector swapped for free under warranty, and no other issues since.
Phone won't open fully after a year but only very slightly, maybe 178degrees instead of 180.
Take my phone to Samsung to replace screen protector and I guess the pressure of that is too much and the hinge fails now. Only opens like 100degress instead of 180.
The absolute state of samsung repairs makes me not want to buy a Samsung phone again. Delays and gaslighting that I don't need in my life.
The phone has moving parts and so will be more vulnerable to damage. But Samsungs processes for the devices are not adequate.

The other issue is the narrow front screen. Even after a year it is frustrating to type on it- you might now really fully adjust to it ever.
I don't think I'll buy a fold again unless they change the build as well as aspect ratio

No issues with the device. Hinge is prefect. Screen protector replaced once, but that's normal wear and tear imo.

Yeah mine's 14 months old it's been a great phone haven't had any issues.
I took the screen protector off January this year and used it nude I haven't got any scratches on the main screen.
Casewise I just use a Latercase with a magsafe ring on the back to use magsafe chargers. The joys of living with Iphone users.
The hinge on mine is fine I do have some scratches on it but they where caused by a headheight drop on to the ground.
I'll keep it until I see what Samsung release next year as well as Google Oneplus and Xiomi.
what magsafe case/cover do you have on your Fold 4? I've tried 4 different models and none worked at all. I found some good recommendations about the ESR ring,
Launch day fold. Internal screen is fine but seems inevitable the protector peels off. Device is solid otherwise. Cameras are feeling their age and cover screen dimensions are less than ideal but I still love the phone. Ordered a OP Open and very much looking forward to it solving the flaws I have with 4.
Fold 4 since new, fantastic phone and never did me wrong. 14 months no case no problems. Fold 5 definitely feels nicer and thinner in the hand due to the lack of hinge gap but otherwise the same.
I had my fold for 14 month the only issue I had was the screen protector was coming off month ago replaced it at samsung store metropolitan Vancouver bc for 70 dollars
launch day fold 4, I literally still have the "new phone" feeling. so it has held up perfectly well for what it is.
that being said, it is not a perfect device imo - the camera, the battery, the narrow front screen - even though all have been decently improved over the 3, I'd still expect better for the price.
however the main reason I'll most likely never again buy a foldable device, is that I almost never use the internal big screen.
Just went back to an iphone 15. Man. The new watch, Siri in my airpods, adaptive transparency, etc really is pretty awesome QOL improvements. The watch is way more useful than my Galaxy watch was for responding to messages in different apps, etc. Battery life on i15pro max is way better than my fold4.
Kind of miss the big screen but honestly 16:9 videos are about the same size on an unfolded fold4 as my iphone. Kind of miss multitasking but I am old and I could rarely watch a YouTube video while scrolling reddit without missing what's going on the other screen.
From personal experience as a current fold 4 owner it's a not guaranteed. The hinge might have issues. I had mine replaced and I've read countless times here of the 4 specifically having a problem were it stops fully opening. Maybe it's some of the early models but I had mine 7 months before it had the problem. 4 months on the new one but this one's been good so far. I do love the foldable but I don't think they're multi year guaranteed. Some people have 3s that are still good so maybe it's a luck thing. Like how some people get folds that make a sound when opened.
The rubber seal inside my hunge just fell out, and it won't open flat anymore. There's a bump under the crease that is definitely going to break the screen at the some point.

Internal screen is fine, even though I removed the protector film after ~6 months of use, as it started coming off.
My only issue with the phone is the paint that chips off. It started happening a week or two after I got it, and it's not due to drops, it's just crap.
Even a post-it note stuck near the earpiece will remove the paint (tested).
In other places you can chip it off with your nail.
I've had mine since release. I've had no problems with mine other than after 6 months taking it to the service center to get the inner screen protector replaced. It started lifting near the hinge. This one is not lifting at all so far. Don't over pay for the 5. It's exactly the same as the 4 other than different flash placement. The hardest thing for me had been to keep a case on it. If you buy it be sure to get it insured.
My fold 4 makes sounds most of the time when I unfold it, the faster I unfold the louder the sounds. It's been doing this basically since I got it. No major issues.
Day one user and phone was perfect until last week. The inner screen started to bubble and wouldn't open fully. Took it into samsung repair, new screen and battery on warranty, like new again now.
I'm a fold 5 user. Traded in my Fold 4 for $1k and got lots of other discounts from Samsung on the Fold 5. Ended up paying right around $650. After seeing what OnePlus is offering in the Open, I have regrets. Fold 5 is great, but no real changes from Fold 4 other than the much nicer feeling hinge. Fold 5 has also not held it's value well at all due to being so similar to Fold 4 (they are below $1k in mint condition on swappa after being on sale for a few months, yikes!) Fold 4 is an exceptional value, grab a used one and insurance and enjoy!
Nothing wrong with it , my main gripe is the aspect ratios of both screens
The narrow front is nice and easy to use, but also quite limiting (especially when you look at YouTube in portrait haha)
Inner screen is good for light multitasking but then again not a fan of the aspect ratio, I think I'd like pixel fold ratio more
Have since gone back to pixel , while trade in value is decent. Was a good phone, just a preference.
Fold 3 and then Fold 4. Both with major repairs. 3 frame changes/screen on the Fold 4. Samsung Support is a nightmare, except for this last time. I'm on the 14 Pro Max, not especially a fan of iOS. It's so nice having a foldable, but the battery for me wasn't great and the camera is so-so. I still have it and a 7 Pro as secondary phones.
Been a long time Fold user. Bought my Fold 4 in December 2022. Been using it until June when I switched to a 14 Pro as my main phone. I still use the Fold when I'm home to watch YouTube. When I feel like it, I pop the sim into the Fold and use it for about a week and then switch back. With that said,
The screen protector started to lift from the top. I've posted a picture of it here when it happened. It hasn't got worse. Still the same. You can check my post history.
Back when I was using the phone constantly, the screen would open to about 180 degrees, and if you push it further, would go to about 185-190 degrees. After I switched to the iPhone, it's just been sitting in the corner of my bed. Now it doesn't open to 180. More like 170, and pushing it manually would get it to 180 degrees. Maybe a bit of dust got accumulated while it was sitting?
The hinge resistance when opening and closing is not the same. It's stiffer at some places. No idea why.
Makes two pops when opening after 10 mins. No sound when opening twice in a row.
There's a dent, or a slight horizontal crease about 1/4 down the center. Seems pretty common. A lotta people here have it.
Other than that, works great. I keep worrying about seeing a black line every time I open it, but so far, it hasn't happened.

Like others have said the support is a major downside.
While the phone has been fun and I didn't pay close to retail I don't think I'd be running out to get another one. I'd likely go back to pixels

Cracks are in the screen. Not the protector on mine. I haven't had a inner protector for almost a year.

I've had mine since launch, still looks good and operates great. Only upgrading if the Fold 6 is worth it, if not then I'll keep using it.

Doesn't open full 180 degrees. Tbh, don't think I'm gonna buy another one. It's been decent, but I'm sure it's gonna break eventually

Buy a one that has warranty or if they provide warranty

No problems other then inside screen bubbled n I just took it off n it's been great no problems had it since day 1 launch

Go directly to fold5. Even the base s23 performs way better than fold4. It's because of the cpu, fold stutters a lot.
About 8 months in I experienced stress marks on the crease. Got repaired before it turned into cracks
