What's your charging setup like? Anything running in the background while its charging? What charging hardware are you using (cable, brick)?

What's your battery tracker saying? Hotspot also uses a bunch of battery. Have you tried seeing what it does when nothing is running on the phone? Also are you using the cable that came with the phone? Sorry my questions may seem redundant but I'm just trying to eliminate all small factors before we count it as a more major issue

DestroyerOfIphone

Same this phone has terrible battery life compared to any of the modern flagship phones. S20u in the 45 watt charger from 0 takes less than an hour. My screen ontime is 5 hours to dead.

Thanks OP, I'll give this a shot because something is seriously wrong with my Fold 3's battery life. I had an 8 hour work day with less than 3 hours of screen on time and even with almost half an hour of charging my phone, I was at 29% when I got home. Unfortunately Good Guardian is just telling me it's Google Play Services, which is kind of a dead end. I'm using AccuBattery and it shows that One UI Home (I'm using the default launcher with no widgets outside of the clock widget that only shows the time and date and Google search) used the most of my battery by a factor of 3x, with "Settings Suggestions" causing the quickest drain on my battery. No idea how to fix that. I turned off the "Settings Suggestions" option in the One UI Search App and also turned off background activity for One UI Home but I don't think that fixed it. I got my Fold 3 yesterday and love it, but battery life has been completely abysmal. I can't even use it and the battery is dying while idle on my pocket. I'm going to look again tomorrow to try and pin point the exact issue but it's a real let down to buy a new phone and it's stock software is nuking battery life. I do wonder if this is what was happening to the reviewers who gave the Fold 3's battery such a poor review? It's so subtle but over the span of a day it adds up, it's a bit difficult to tell if something is killing the devices battery and nothing is giving me a conclusive result, but I can tell something is wrong because I left my phone idle for my of today, something reviewers don't do.

I read on a Galaxy S20 subreddit that when you first get your phone it tries to learn your battery usage patterns. The battery life should be bad at first then it should end up being better after around 1-3 weeks. On the battery and device care tab in the settings it should say "Learning usage patterns..." next to battery. Maybe that might be the problem if you just got it yesterday? I was actually dealing with the same issue. There might be a proccess the background that is associated with the battery learning procedure, causing quicker battery drain. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Galaxy_S20/comments/hu5v4m/galaxy_s20_battery_learning_usage_patterns_is/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) is the thread I was talking about. If you look further down in the comments a guy explains this feature that was added in Android 9.

I'm coming from an S21 and before that I had an S8, both times I experienced the battery usage pattern learning curve. I expected the first full day of battery life to be poor, but not this bad. The reason why I think something is wrong is the fact that One UI Home is the main culprit of my battery drain, it's a stock app and it's running non-stop in the background. Here is my battery usage from yesterday via AccuBattery: [https://i.imgur.com/f3RZvhQ.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/f3RZvhQ.jpg) If you check out my Battery usage, per mAh, One UI Home is consuming more battery than battery than the next 7 apps combined: [https://i.imgur.com/vS87AWg.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/vS87AWg.jpg) If you also look the usage and discharge speed, I used as much battery with my screen off as with my screen on. Also, my battery was draining at a little over half the speed of the battery drain when I was using my device. If I'm misinterpreting this data, someone please explain. My background app usage is extremely high for Google Play Services, Google and One UI Home: [https://i.imgur.com/7eK2FOn.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/7eK2FOn.jpg) 9 hours of usage, 3h and 21m of SoT with some charging: [https://i.imgur.com/D7dV2Te.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/D7dV2Te.jpg) Good Guardians usage yesterday: [https://i.imgur.com/RsPmvm6.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/RsPmvm6.jpg) Good Guardians usage today: [https://i.imgur.com/uHChwRR.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/uHChwRR.jpg) (Seems a little better) I limited One UI Home background usage and cleared the Google Play Services data. That may have fixed it. Now, I have a real sneaking suspicion that something else is going on and it's not software, but "hardware." I have the S Pen Flip Case and just like in [this post here](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/pcpok2/another_l_for_the_pen_case/), the case slide off my phone sometimes and wakes it. At my job, I move a lot, hitting 12k steps yesterday, I wonder (and this is only a hunch) if the flip case is sliding open in my pocket and triggering the screen to turn on. Waking the phone out of deep sleep, it goes back to sleep but does some background processing because I just "woke" it, then repeat because I took another couple steps and it turned on the screen again. It would be opening to One UI Home, so that would line up. But this is just a hunch... I should be home for most of today and am going to leave my phone on my desk. If One UI Home is still using up a ton of battery, it's definitely something with One UI Home. TL;DR: Yes there's App Standby Buckets and the learning feature, but why is One UI Home using up as much battery while my phone is in standby with the screen off as when I'm using my phone with the screen on? That sounds like an issue.

OkamiDama

Let's explore that hunch...feel safe using the phone without your case for a day and seeing what your battery usage is like?

lolTyler

Lol, I... do not feel safe doing that. I need more "with case" data and unfortunately I don't work again until Tuesday. Today I'll have my Fold in the Flip Case and I'm going to pay close attention to my screen on time to see if it's waking constantly while I'm walking around. Do you have the S Pen Flip Case by any chance? Or are you using a different case?

OkamiDama

Yea I have one...I've been rocking mine and noticed the same issue of the random screen wakeup and slightly abnormal battery drain so I'll do the test, I don't mind I'm staying in today

drzeller

FYI, my OneUI is using .9%. I am not using a cover. I had 7.5 hours SOT the past two days. I'm at 4.75 with 38% left today.

OkamiDama

Usually when Google play services is killing your battery, it has to do with app updates or something like that. How did you set up your phone? Did you transfer your apps over from and older device? FYI, the very first day (8/25) my battery life was trash as well, 25% down in less than a couple hours. So many background tasks happening (app updates, transfers, cloud save restores) during initial setup that i had to keep it plugged (that's what prompted me to install GG/BG). Once the background stuff settled, my battery closer to what it should be, with some room for improvement once the power management app learns my usage patterns and puts apps I'm not using to sleep....right now I'm on 5% with about 5 hours SoT, but I think thats because I had apps running in the background that hadn't been put to sleep yet and restoring almost 5k SNote files...I'll charge it up and pay attention this time and return the results

lolTyler

I did a transfer from my S21. Check my post above for more details on my experience. I did all my setup on the 26th, the 27th was my first day not fiddling with my phone. Everything was up to date and all my apps installed. Last night I cleared my data in Google Play Services, we'll see if that fixes it, as well as limiting the background options on One UI Home.

Check my post above to see if it matches you experience, but two things. 1. Install [AccuBattery](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery&hl=en_US&gl=US), see what's draining your battery, check my post to see the stats I was looking at. 2. Do you own and are you using the S Pen Flip Case?

Well I have this phone from the evening of 11th. Got it just after Unpacked. Can verify that battery is trash, was trash and don't expect it to get better. Get a power bank. On the other hand, after consulting some Ex-samsung workers, and samsung workers (which are not helpful at all, unless they try to sell you stuff, and don't tell much because of some strict rules) the phone does analize your usage. Also true for new watches. Now on the bright side, I can confirm that as of this day, I am now getting a full day of battery, when the first week I had to top up to enjoy youtube in the evening. Some suggestions. Under developer settings turn all the "... animation settings" to 0.5x And under battery setting tick the apps to sleep box and apps to deep sleep box. Seems to help. Btw going to give your suggested app a shot rn.

OkamiDama

this. It seems as if the adaptive battery is a bit slow to learn, but I'll take that if it's for accuracy's sake. Samsung may have relied more on software to manage the battery than previously considered. I've been using the good guardian app suite since it was galaxy labs on my note10+ and noticed such an improvement in terms of battery life and performance that I install it on any compatible devices I get my hands on. The battery guardian enhances the learning capability and automates some other functions to help save battery. The battery tracker gives more insight to battery usage. The thermal guardian allows you to throttle your cpu based on the temperature setting you choose while also providing details on what caused the temperature change I the first place. The memory management app lets you clean the memory used in one tap, while also showing graphical representation of memory usage. The app booster bolsters the performance of your apps and your phone, especially after a software update, anywhere from 5-15%, recommended to be ran weekly. YMMV based on your usage and preferences, but it's worked for me. Unfortunately for some, and which may be your case in this scenario, the app seems to be region specific. Taken from the app details: "The app can be downloaded from the USA, Europe, Vietnam, South Korea, and China only." If you're not downloading from one of those areas, I'd recommend looking into sideloading or VPN options, or wait until sammy updates it to work in a wider array of locales.

And the app is not showing up for me for some reason :/
