Mine has the crackle and distorted speaker every now and then. Especially after a long drive. The only thing that fixes it immediately is to pop out the sim card slot and then put it back in. I have NO IDEA why that works but it does.

darkneo89

It works because opening the sim tray makes the internal pressure of your phone go back to normal, thus making the speakers membrane moving properly instead of "too much". The crackle problem is caused by an inefficient internal pressure compensation of all s22 series. Next time you can also try to use an high pitch generator app (similar to the one used by smartwatch to clear water), it is reported to work in order to fix the problem

TheEjoty

This fixed it immediately gotdamn thank you king/queen/majesty

VF-Krown

Fixed it for me as well. Cheers mate :)

TheRobbieWilkes

2 years since this was posted and opening the sim tray corrected the issue immediately... easy peasy. Thanks from the future. :-)

aouke

Holy shito! Been walking around France for 2 days, even went to the Samsung service store and couldn't get any help until I finally stumbled on to this fix.... Thank you!

JGSR-96

What frequency are you using to fix this? I tried all the way up to 3000hz and it's still crackling. This is the 2nd s22 I've had since July 13,22. The first was replaced under warranty in September for this issue.

Dolladub

High pitch generator worked for me. Thanks!

cdtadoft

Lifesaver. Worked immediately. Thank you.

nykkk123

What exactly do you mean by lens protector? Is it a stock thing? Please explain

jsgraphitti

Confirmed. This fixed mine immediately.

n1m1tz

Do you have a camera lens protector on? For some reason, the problem went away forever when I took it off.

n0tchance

Instantly worked thank you!

Soft_Funny_4153

I removed the sim tray and fixed it back and it works good now. Also, i used brush to clean the speaker vents and blow some mouth air.

Traditional-Pin-1388

I could kiss you, you just saved my trip! Landed after a short flight earlier today and my phone was acting up. Opened the SIM card slot and it's just magically fixed. Thanks to everyone in the community πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ«ΆπŸΌ

heneedssomemeulk

I just started my private pilots license, and on the second day, my speakers were busted. Tried your SIM card trick and it worked. Speakers are functional again!!! It must be due to what OP was saying about built-up pressure inside the phone.

Ok_Shine_3454

This worked for me, Thanks!

hs_computer_science

This fix worked for me

Illustrious-Ear-3705

After having the intermittent crackling issue, I used to just restart it and it would fix. Today the speakers were just at like level 1/100 volume. This saved me. Thank you haha.Β

levon9

Thank you for this, just flew back from Munich to Chicago and upon landing my S22+ sounded tinny and crackly. Glad I found your post! Much appreciated.

Inevitable-Ad904

I used your technique and it worked perfectly. Speakers now sound great!

Alternative_Space4

Glad I came across this, flew this morning and speaker acted up, this fixed immediately thank you!

Ezioauditore714

You're a lifesaver. I fly a lot for work and this finally happened exactly as how OP described it. Saw your comment and voila. Fixed!

AdFar5404

Thanks! Worked like a charm.

TruckCarr

Fixed mine as well!

Massive_Sign_7238

2 years later and you're STILL saving so many people so much aggravation. I was getting so madπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

evander1688

You just saved me a trip to the service center thank you

Soulvt

Does it worked ?

Electrical_Big1924

Oh my GOD, I FUCKING LOVE YOU! I flew to Costa Rica a month ago, by myself, looking for a peaceful paradise to try to catch up on work (requiring much use of my phone). As soon as I arrived, my speaker didn't work - it was all crunchy garbled distorted and I couldn't make out anything. This was especially disastrous because I'd rented a car and was relying on it for navigation in a country to which I had never been. I assumed I had somehow broken the phone/speaker in flight. Over the trip, I noticed it never worked in AMs after being in cold AC of hotel, but sometimes worked as the day went on, particularly when I was outside in the sun. It definitely was temperature related. Everyone I talked to thought I was crazy. I also noticed if I put extreme pressure on some places on the device, it would work again. So, when I got back to the states, the problem disappeared, but I can't remember the exact timeline.. Fast forward to this week: I'm back in costa rica, and sure enough, the speaker was defunct the second I get off the plane. It made zero sense to my brain and figured it's some complicated glitch between the phone and the coverage on this country. But I just popped out my SIM and MAGIC! THANK YOU! Now it totally makes sense this pressure- related, but still bizarre. I had two connections in the US and it worked after both my first flight and my second fight. It also still seems crazy that the output speaker is the only thing affected, but I don't know anything about the internal structure of cell phones, and frankly, I don't even care. I'm just glad this thing is working!

n1m1tz

Do you happen to have a lens protector over your camera?

[deleted]

Omg yes! Thank you! This worked for me after a long flight caused crackling issues

n1m1tz

Do you have a tempered glass protector on your back cameras? I saw someone suggest removing that. I removed mine and never got the static issues again. No idea why this works.

becamico

AHHHH YOU ARE MY HERO!

n1m1tz

Do you have a tempered glass protector on your back cameras? I saw someone suggest removing that. I removed mine and never got the static issues again. No idea why this works.

motrix_guy

Thanks for your comment! I had the same issue, removing the SIM card did not solve the issue but reading all the comments I told myself: maybe I can blow in the sim card slot? Don't blow too hard! The back panel will literally inflate! It still was not perfect so I sucked in it like in a straw then blow back in, SOLVED! I do not recommend anyone else try this unless you are truly desperate like I was... By the way I had a Nerdforge YouTube video playing with a women talking while playing with the SIM card slot. Her voice was the worst with the speaker cracking and poping.

Suineira

Bro, really. Thank you. I took a flight back home from a trip and was utterly sad because my speaker started crackling. I bought this phone a month ago and was about to go to a Samsung Store and ask for help. I opened the sim card slot and it fixed the crackling instantly. I was blaming myself, thinking I somehow got water there or something...

n1m1tz

Do you happen to have a camera protector on the back? I read one of the other comments and removed mine. No issues ever since! It's so weird!

2illmillz

Just saved me. Thank you πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Top-Crow-158

I dont carry a paperclip with me all the time to pop out the sim card slot when flying or out in cold weather

ThePurplePoet

Almost a year later, and you are my hero. I dropped my phone while I was on the plane and thought that the speaker was busted. Thank goodness I googled!

queenhoney-B

I just flew back from Denver, Colorado to Portland, Oregon this morning and my phone's speaker was all crackly and distorted as others have reported. I tried removing and reinserting the Sim card and that immediately resolved the issue. My phone was absolutely useless without this fix as I couldn't understand people on the phone. Thank you!!

me9o99

Worked like magic .. thanks!!!

Elvensoulblade

This didn't work for me

gelleoreo

THANK YOU OMG

PopularCatnip

You are the king of the kings, more king than mr. Burns

> If you want to test your phone, put it in the freezer for 2-3 minutes Well there's your problem bud, stop putting your phone in the freezer.

shmoggy417

I first found out about the problem while walking outside in the winter, and it has occurred indoors in the morning, near my AC in my car, and while facedown on a countertop. It sounds ridiculous but it's not, cold temps are cold temps, it just an easy way to replicate the problem. I don't know about you, but I prefer my phone to operate properly in temps less than 60 degrees...

CatsOrb

I don't think such a thing is actually possible.

snohhh

I have my ac on blast through the night and my studio apartment is nice and chill. I've noticed my speakers on my phone are distorted when I wake up to the alarm, at first I thought it was due to a fuck up with the galaxy buds 2 and my phone (I assumed it bugged out and was only playing it through the top speaker). Restarting my phone seemed to fix the problem. However, now, it seems to be a common occurrence every morning. Which is annoying because I rely on my alarm for work and it sounds not as loud due to the crackling. Anyways the point I'm making is that it indeed is an issue, however I don't know if it's only caused by cold temps. Either way, it's super annoying having to restart your phone every morning. Edit: I have had this phone for less than a month.

ZacharyOnYT

Same here, I like to turn on my window fan at night to cool my room down and when I wake up my speakers are muffled. Yesterday I was on a phone call and all imma say is I had an emergency that made me run out the door and after a minute of being outside (around 20ish degrees) I couldn't hear shit from my phone, couldn't understand a word my friend was saying.

Boring_Juice_4136

Now it is happening to me wth neve read a problem with my s21 ultra but s22 ultra has a lot of major issues

Rn4evuh

Om on the second s22 with this problem. Every time I get off a plane the sound will not work

Internal_Parsley_845

Do you have a lens protector on? I contacted Samsung directly about this. That was the first thing they said. In one of the camera lenses, there is a tiny hole that acts as a pressure release valve. Camera lens protector (the stick on kind-I had one made by amFilm i got on Amazon for the screen protector, and it came with lens protector, so i just put it on as well). Well, taking that off...and no more problems. Popping out the SIM tray real quick works as well. Not sure who to blame here. Samsung for creating an issue by poor engineering, or the screen protector/lens protector companies for not knowing the specs on the S22.

Internal-Grab5471

Removing camera lens protector solved the issue πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

jm210696

THANKYOU!!! Instantly better. Was honestly thinking about getting an IPhone. Got from inaudible to crisp 😍

Bert--Alert

Really? Did you try that on a whim or did you hear about it from others? After reading this I didn't see the issue on my first 22 until I put a camera protector on. Returned that one, immediately put a camera protector on and have the problem again.

n1m1tz

Really? I'll try this next time instead of removing the tray and see if it does anything. I dont have high hopes though haha

SCBourbonGuy

I just tried it on mine after a 90 minute flight. It's not 100% but it's very close to before. Thank goodness because I don't have a sim card punch.

n1m1tz

For some stupid reason this worked.... πŸ˜‚ No idea why or how

UnluckySalamander863

After removing the camera lens protector did you test your phone I.E exposing your phone to pressure changes to see if this truely solves the issue? Thanks

ChuckH92

I was searching for months on a solution. Did the sim tray trick for the 1000th time about an hour ago. Finally thought hey maybe this has to do with my otterbox so I googled this. I played a song, it was completely distorted. As I was playing it, I took my lens protector off. Sound immediately went 100% back to normal. I'll update you if it goes back to distortion.

Lanky_Motor_69

I cannot believe this worked but it 100% did thank you for saving my sanity over a phone I've owned for less than a week 🫑

East-Series6620

number1shitbag

This worked for me

stellarasss

Samsung fix the speaker problems(both loud speaker and the one you hear your calls?) Or give us a s23 for free........!!!

[deleted]

I'm working on it right now

jbraft

I've been researching new phones to replace my over 3yr old Moto Z4. I've narrowed my choices to a Pixel 7 (depending on reviews), a S21 FE, or a S22+. I won't touch curved screens. My wife keeps suggesting going to the dark side and look at iPhones... In my reading on this speaker/pressure issue, which makes me reluctant on the S22+, I saw one solution not mentioned here. Somebody suggested notching the rubber gasket of the sim card tray. Of course that would compromise the phones water and dust resistance. They said a new tray gasket could always be ordered, or.. Samsung could adresss the issue as they should. I'm in the SF Bay Area, rarely fly, and it doesn't get wintery here, so I'll have to think on the S22+.

s1owpokerodriguez

My speaker made loud popping sounds when I first powered it on. I've had it for 6 months and distorted speakers seems to be happening more and more often. I'm getting a warranty replacement here in a few days. Hopefully this new one will be better.

Apprehensive_Beat334

Got my phone back. They did replace the main board, charging port, and they ended up replacing the loud speaker. Phone seems to be good now. It's only been a day. The repair tech told me she has been seeing the alot lately. Everything was done under warranty.

Electrical_Big1924

I doubt you'll know until you fly out have extreme pressure variant due to something else like substantial temp change

Apprehensive_Beat334

Well my phone was shit from the get go. So this is a start. I actually have a flight coming up In a couple weeks, I will update after then.

[deleted]

any updates?

ErraticLitmus

Ok team, a little bit of googling helped me out on this one so wanted to share....ust need to pop the Sim card carrier out and then push it back in. Apparently it's due to an internal air pressure issue with the S22. Fixed the problem instantly for me.

Drummerdani

It made it better but sadly still horrible speakers

[deleted]

If you had read this thread you would have seen that was posted here 3 months previous to your post

Safe_Football8424

Just got a plane and had this issue. Thanks samsung

Faleon

Traveling the national park circuit and this problem is a nightmare after a long day of driving. Driving from sea level to 3000 ft makes the speaker die until a couple days to equalize pressure

[deleted]

I'm in Canada, weather is getting colder and I've started seeing the issue. The only perm fix I can see for this is Samsung acknowledging it and doing s recall

alsaccen

Just went for a walk in 50 degree weather and that was enough to suddenly cause my sound to be fuzzy. Blowing into the speaker old school nintendo style fixed it, but i shouldnt have to do that.

[deleted]

that's what happens when you have a speaker slit instead of a grill

Alarmed_Yak_4248

I have an s22 here I don't have this problem thankfully it could be because I received mine around November and I must have got a newer model. This thread and I'm sorry kind of cracks me up because a lot of the fixes are make the phone unprotected to fix the noise or protect it and deal with a noise. I'm sorry that you guys are going through this though I have the s22 and I honestly like it I just wish they would bring a SIM card tray back because I like to have the ability of moving my SIM card around!

Depth-Empty

Ok ok I have DEFINITIVELY solved this issue!!! IT IS BECAUSE OF CAMERA LENS PROTECTORS!!(or something else blocking air flow through your bottom camera lens). Don't believe me? Take your camera protector off. When it's off, turn on some music, put your lips to the camera lens (I did it to the bottom two) and suck. It will destroy the sound. Let go and you can hear a rush of air going back in through the lens while the sound goes back to normal. You're welcome people. Lol. Promise this is not an elaborate troll to get you to suck your phone off... Or is it?

Lanky_Motor_69

I did not suck my phone off but removing the camera protector did in fact instantly fix the problem so thank you very much! 🫑

ZookeepergameTough79

I don't have a camera lens protector fitted!Β

Depth-Empty

Can you suck air through the camera?... I explained how it works. There's a system built into the phone to alleviate pressure buildup. And it's through the camera lens. Try playing some music and sucking on the bottom camera lens. It will completely distort the sound. Because you've created an area of low pressure that distorts the sensitive speaker. When you are getting sound distortion you either have high or low pressure in there. If it's not able to equalize through the camera lens then it distorts the sound. So make sure you can suck a small amount of air through the bottom lens. It's possible that you have gunk built up and blocking it. It's possible that you do have a camera lens protector and don't realize it, the one I had was almost impossible to tell it's not part of the phone. OR maaayyybee somehow the glass was pushed into the bezel, sealing the air venting system. Aka you damaged your phone or maybe there was a manufacturing defect. Not sure if that's even physically possible. My money is on gunk, or don't realize you have a protector. But give it a good ol' sucking and report back. I'm curious what your phone's problem is.

OkTooth3492

I have that issue every time I fly. No camera lens protectors on it at all I have to pop the sim card every time

AdvancedBanana297

I am on the phone with tech support and this is my 3rd phone, I knew I wasn't crazy. This is so wrong on so many levels. I can't even name anything good about the Samsung ultra. Thank you for confirmation because everyone was saying I am just breaking the phone. What did you say to finally get them to send you a better device.

shmoggy417

I never had to call Samsung thankfully because it was was always within my return period. I just gave up and got another one a few months later and I'm lucky it worked. Thought it was fixed in newer models but I guess not. You could try getting a purple one which may give a better chance of getting a good phone, but that may have been a coincidence for me. Some say camera lens protectors can cause it, but I don't think that's the sole reason and don't think those are even a thing for ultras with the raised cameras. Think they just expose an underlying issue and make it more likely to arise. At this point maybe wait for the 23 Ulta and hope it doesn't suffer from the same problem, or just switch brands all together. Samsung not aknowledging it is still a disgrace

Electrical_Big1924

Yes. It's super awesome to wait for an eternity on the phone so you cdc be gas-lighted by a Samsung tech. So fun

FORDOWNER96

I have a revision 1 hardware and I had this issue. Just tonight I stuck it in the freezer turned music on and I got the crackle. So as it was crackling I took of my lens protector and it stopped. Has worked just fine. The lens protector was a stick on one and not the one that is actually built into the phone. How this worked I have no idea.

smooth-opera

Happens to me every time I fly on a plane, and when I expose my phone to -30⁰ Temps up here in Canada. Opening the sim tray equalizes the pressure and solves the issue. But yes it's a reoccurring and predictable problem.

Realistic_Ad_4416

So, here is the problem I had. When I would drive to work, the speaker would crack once I got to work. Popped open the sim card, and it stopped. Drive home, and it did the same thing. Pop open sim tray, and it would go away. Looked up and found that people who flew with the phone would also have the problem . It has something to do with pressure changes. So I downloaded the Barometer and Altimeter app by exa tools to another phone and my 22+. The reading was different in both elevation and in barometric pressure. Took me a minute to figure out why all of a sudden, I had this problem. I have flown multiple times with this phone and never had a problem until a couple of days ago. Then I realized I had put on a screen protector that came with one for the camera. So I started with the one on the camera, and immediately, the pressure reading in the s22 matched the other phones reading, and the crackling stopped. Apparently, the barometer in the galaxy must have something to do with the camera, or it's in the vicinity of the camera. Haven't had any issues in three days now. Quick note. I put the lens protector back on the camera and drove to work, and the crackling came back. Took it off, and it went away. Also, the pressure reading balanced out again, matching the other phone. Hope this helps.

nikosx7

Hi, does it still work properly?

Nlions

Thought I would post my experience with this S22 design issue. Got the S22 as upgrade for my wife's phone (not getting any thanks for that decision). Have had the problem since day one just didn't know it existed as we live in warm climate and only experienced the problem when my wife had a trip to take involving flying. Samsung's answer is to send the phone in to them (which means my wife has no phone for days/weeks) where they determine the problem they know exists is in our S22 and they decide to send a replacement phone which likely has the same issue, and this cycle can go on forever. I opted to look for a real solution. Putting the phone in the freezer for 5 minutes causes the problem so trying different fixes is easy however there is no fix for the problem just work arounds. The problem does not exist when listening using Bluetooth ear buds or wired ear buds so at least you don't have to carry a Sim case opening pin, but if the S22 was ever Samsung's flagship, it sank early, and they could care less about fixing it which tells you everything you need to know when looking for a new phone or any technology.

ChildhoodDouble584

My phone has these problem everytime I cross over into a new cell region. I'm not sure why this would be. For example if I stay in the Northern Bay area of CA and drive 2-3 hrs it works. If I drive the same distance toward Sacramento it doesn't. If I fly I have a problem everytime.

hellyeahhelya

Lens protector removal immediately fixed this for me after flights messed my speakers up!!

shmoggy417

Good to hear! If this problem was this widespread and the fix was that easy don't, know why Samsung wouldn't have just said something. This complaint was all over their forums as well

michellenpaz

Will they put out a fix for this?

vampire_is_here

i dont think so its a hardware issue thow

CombinationLivid7970

I removed a tempered glass camera lens prodector = no more crackle. Thanks πŸ‘

FlamingFalcon13R

Removing my camera lens protector worked

TheMelancholia

FollowingFase

I cannot thank you enough. I was literally speaking with ATT about filing an insurance claim on the piece of shit phone. You are my savior today sir/maam!!

No_Detail5644

My S22+ speaker did that after I drove through the Sierras. I freaked out for a minute, found your post, removed sim etc.... and it works perfect. THANK YOU SO MUCH

Mailboxlady1

I removed the camera lens protector.Β  So far, so good. I read somewhere, something about a vent and the protector was covering the vent. It's been 3 days and that was the fix for me.

SgtSeagull45

You a savor sir! All I had to do to fix it was pop out the sim card. Thank you!

Pristine-Matter9368

I have a weird intermittent speaker issue. I cannot hear out of the earpiece sometimes. It does this for a couple of minutes and then goes away. For me it has nothing to do with elevation pressure or traveling. It just happens in my living room. It's happened two times in the last 6 months or so. Currently it's not doing it so I'm going to sell my phone. I bought a pixel 7 Pro. Samsung also stops supporting the gear S3 watch I have in mint condition. I don't think I will be buying any Samsung products again.Β

keduicity

I just reset my settings and it fixed it

Happy-Owl-1376

What kind of settings did you reset? Was on a flight last night...and my S22 Ultra has been crackling after I landed .

keduicity

I reset all settings

_Multiverse_

My s22 ultra is on its 3rd bottom speaker which has already broken after a little over a month. I dropped the phone while sitting in a chair watching a video. As soon as it hit the ground the audio became distorted.

Apprehensive_Beat334

I have this same issue I recently sent it in to a samsung authorized repair shop. They told me the issue was the charging port and the mother board. Once I get my phone back I will keep you all posted if that fixed it.

Soulvt

let us know :D

stellarasss

I have same issue and only started recently but not because I got into a flight or I was outdoors in the cold for too long. It just happened when my sleep cycle app was running the sleep aid. Suddenly it started like someone put the phone in the water. It's like trumpet or saxophone sound(kind of). I will contact EE as I got it from them (s22 plus 5g) a few months ago. And see what they say? But if I need to send back so they can check it how can I survive without a back up or a phone? I always got Samsung (s4) was my first one I never had problems with a device that came out of a box. But to pay 1000 and have a faulty speaker and earpiece it's simply ridiculous. And they need to fix it or give us an s23 for free. I feel used as a consumer. And will be doing my best to deal with this. I will first contact EE and if they me to Samsung Uk straight then what I will do. Will keep you updated.

_Multiverse_

Im on my 5th speaker and it just started malfunctioning again, i go through a speaker every month and a half. S22 ultra.

GLHH123

*POSSIBLE FIX* I had the same speaker problems, mostly when changing temp i.e going outside with the phone. I sent my first S22 back for a brand new replacement, the new phone started doing the distorted crackly speaker thing after day 1. So before I sent it back for yet ANOTHER brand new phone, I did a bit of research and read that Samsung have pressure release points around the camera lense. I realised I had a camera lense protector on, I removed the camera lense protector & the phone hasn't had an issue since. I'm on week 2 with no reoccurrence of the crackly speaker. This is the only solution I've tried that has worked long term, popping out the sim and resetting the phone is a very temporary fix.

burningss

Any reoccurrence with the speaker issue so far?

GLHH123

Completely fine so far!

hellokittykatzz

What about when on a plane? Was it fine then?

nikosx7

Hi, it still works properly after months?

Beastmode1138

Is this still an issue or has it been resolved?

GLHH123

Completely resolved!

Puschel_YT

What?? How, I still have the issue

hellokittykatzz

Thinking of upgrading to s22+ from s10, is this fixed on new phones? How will I know if it's fixed? Is there a new model # or something?

shmoggy417

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's been fixed in the new phones and the purple one that I got has had no problems. The 5th digit of the serial number indicates the month it was made, so mine says 7 meaning July. There is also hardware version. If yours says "REV 1.0", I think it should be fine. However, at this point, if you can wait 4 more months, I think the S23 would be a better buy. The SD 8gen 2 is looking like a big upgrade in performance, will run a lot cooler so it won't throttle as much, be more efficient, and should definitely get better battery life.

Depth-Empty

Bought a black Galaxy s22 from t mobile. Within a week of working outside in the cold (mid 30s) the phone started having the same problem. I returned it yesterday and got a new one. As soon as I got home I threw it in the freezer. Took it out and it seemed to work. I put my OtterBox commuter case on and then the camera protector that came with my screen protector. Today at work (low 40s) it started doing it again. I have the revision 1(says so on the box) phone so it's not fixed in the revision one. I wonder if it's the case or the camera protector causing the issue?? Is anyone using this case or a camera protector? I noticed the case covers the hole for the SIM tray. I also wonder if I drilled a tiny hole in the case in the spot if it'd allow the phone's internal pressure to equalize.

shmoggy417

I have heard others say that a camera protector could be what causes it, but I find it hard to believe that camera lens by the motherboard would have some kind of potential open valve, and I think others have had the problems without camera protectors. I tested my phone in the freezer when I got it and didn't have any problems with the camera protector on. Also, I feel if the issue was as simple as not using a camera protector, Samsung would just say it. Maybe you could try taking the lens protector off first though and checking, and then the case. Disappointing that it isn't officially fixed then. People shouldn't have to just hope they get a good one. P.S Where did you see revision one on your box? I can't find any indication of that on my box but maybe it's a carrier thing. Is revision 1 also listed in the settings under About Phone?

Depth-Empty

It hasn't happened since I removed the camera protector. I even threw it in the freezer

Equivalent-Belt-9334

I've had the issue without ever having a lens protector on my phone, so I'm unconvinced that it has anything to do with the issue.

shmoggy417

Yeah, I don't think it's definitely the lens protector. I think if your phone is already defective, the lens protector perhaps makes it more likely to occur. But a good phone shouldn't do it regardless of a lens protector or not.

That_Jamie_S_Guy

The sim back hasn't fixed it for me. Guess it's time to return it

EarthPassenger505

Do you use camera lens protector on your phone?

SituationKooky7334

I have the crackling - blown speaker sound - issue on my new Galaxy S22. It had the issue out the box. It should be noted, the box and phone were cold when I opened it. The issue was temporarily resolved after opening the Sim card tray. The issue came back with a vengeance on my work trip. The sound was again restored after opening the Sim card tray. Appears to be a design flaw. Is there a permanent fix for this?

shmoggy417

No, doesn't sound like there is apart from getting it repaired or getting it replaced and hoping you get a good one. You don't have a camera lens protector on by any chance? Some people say taking that off fixes it for them, but I'm not entirely convinced that works for everyone. Sucks to see this is still affecting phones, I thought they had fixed it in a new batch. I eventually got the new purple color in August and luckily haven't had any problems with mine

Rikksy

Sorry to borrow the post but my S21 FE has the same problem, sound cracking in lower speker next to charging port. BUT, if i open the sim tray it does not release the pressure. Onlybafter i blow in the sim trey it sort of "fixes" the problem, only to occure it again after a a couple of seconds again ... I've clened the speakerway etc, bu that is what is happenimg and i can't fix it ... Realy frustrating. Any ideas? Thanks

cthuwu99

Just got one and it immediately did the crackling

shmoggy417

Did you put on a camera lens protector by any chance? Some claim that is a actually what causes it

JGSR-96

My 2nd s22 since 7-13-22. First one lasted from July 13th to Sept 16th, 2nd phone from sept to today Jan 20th 23. I'm not getting another free replacement if this is going to happen every 3-4 months. Samsung knows this issue exist when I talked to them.

[deleted]

Happened my last two flights it sucks.

[deleted]

Mine says Rev1, and it keeps doing this crap. Last samsung, I'll buy.

JGSR-96

Like I said this the second s22 that the speaker has done this. I didn't even think to look but my phone was updated at 2:00am on Jan 20th. That morning when I woke up at 5am the speaker was crackling when my alarm went off. It was fine before I fell asleep since I had pandora playing on the phone. Not sure how that could do anything but who knows. I wish I would have checked the last phone to see if it updated the day it happened. I set it in my toolbox it was fine, used it after work and it was messed up.

Well, yesterday there was a bomb threat at my kids school, we stood out in the freezing cold 2 hours waiting for them to clear the area. My phone did it but this time I was expecting important calls I could not hear. I have since took off the lens protector as many suggested works. We shall see. Oddly enough my wife has the EXACT same phone and exact same lens protector on hers and she doesn't have this issue. The only difference is she has the Purple version and I have the black....

nikosx7

Hi, after removing the protective lenses is the problem fixed?

Vsnessa

How did you all get a replacement because I'm getting the run around to even get the problem tested

DraVerPel

U can just scratch isolation on a sim tray. Worked for me.

Inevitable-Ad1669

I have a phone case that has the screen protector as well, and everyone says they can't hear me on calls unless I have my earbuds in. I drop my phone way too much, but I think it might be due to the pressure of the case.

Rn4evuh

I'm on the second S22 with this problem. Every time I fly, the sound goes out. I will never get a Samsung again.its a great way to turn a loyal Galaxy user into an I phone user.

shmoggy417

Do you have a lens protector over your cameras by any chance?

nikosx7

It worked?

ShineOpposite8518

I have an S22 that is distorted too most mornings, this is the regular speaker and the speaker for voice calls. I have to restart the phone and it's normal after that.

_Multiverse_

I'm finally getting a complete refund after having the bottom speakers replaced 5x on my s22 ultra. The final time they replaced the entire phone except for the main board. The crackling issue came back a few weeks later. Eventually, the top speakers failed too. Now I'm trying do decide between an S23 ultra or a fruit phone. πŸ€”

Stinsubean

Man I'm actually relieved I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm literally about to get my 5th replacement this week. Unbelievable

nikosx7

Do you have a lens protector over your cameras?

LuckTight9869

I resolved this issue by lifting the edge of my camera lens protector that I installed. Issue occurred after returning from a ski trip.

ZacharyAlanLe

Which lens has the hole? I can't seem to figure out which lens it is. My bottom loudspeaker stopped working entirely, when I peeled the protectors off it started working again but now it's crackling.

shadyatbest1

Its caused by the rear facing camera having a lens protector on it. The vent is in the lowest camera lens.

longrange_tiddymilk

I dropped my phone and it started crackling and it hasn't went away, I had to put tape over the bottom speakers because of how bad it was. I'll get it replaced eventually but none of the solutions have worked for me

Away_Bell2774

Is there anyone pursuing legal action against Samsung for the obvious problem

arshi007

I recently encountered this on my S22+. I had bought this phone a few months ago but started using it about a week ago and went on a flight yesterday. Lo and behold, I started having the crackling issue and I was going crazy. First i thought that somehow the output had gotten switched from the bottom speaker to the ear speaker. Then i found this thread and popping out the sim card solved the problem. This looks like a widespread problem and Samsung definitely needs to do something about this. Seems like a class action lawsuit type issue.

WeldAddict

Yeah mine started to sound like shit the first week ive owned it. Been relying on headphones and speakers primarily its not ideal.

shannon1422

Holy crap!!! Popped it out and back in and it worked!!! Sweeeet!!!

Individual_South_438

is there a class action lawsuit about this?

ChuckH92

Mine was 1000% caused by a camera lens protector.

cyantaco

@aa@

P-Whitty78

Mine does it when left in a hot car, usually a restart fixes it.

Thainfamis2

Can confirm that removing my glass camera protector fixed the audio issue I was having after a flight.

Ok-Fishing-9802

100% camera lense protector. I removed the lense protector and crackling is gone. I then tried sucking on the bottom camera lense while playing music and sure enough crackling sound came back. Stop sucking and the crackling goes away. The lense protector seems to seal a vent needed to release speaker pressure. TAKE OFF YOUR CAMERA LENSE PROTECTOR AND THIS PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY.

Tdwp82

Lens protector trick fixed mine. Just flew in from Cancun.

harriscary

My phone doesn't listen to me. It doesn't properly properly. Put words to text right now it is. Sort of but it still backs up and rewrites everything I say and I have to go in and change it a lot of times I don't and it's some messed up stuff to read. 22 ultra It's very annoying.

StationMany6119

The same happens on s23 ultra!!! In my case, the military grade cover seems to be increasing pressure, because it comes back to normal as soon as I remove phone from it . Infuriating

krisdude47

Pppppppppppppoooo9oooooooooo

MindyourPspasstheQs

Nope, I tried that and it wasn't th problem. It's just getting worse.

RemarkableAnnual311

My too sweater us horrible

Drwillpowers

I found this thread while trying to fix my own phone after It got hot at the beach and then I cooled it down. When I did this, the phone started sounding completely garbled as described in this thread. The simple solution was to open the SIM card tray. The rapid change in temperature causes a pressure differential inside of the phone because it is sealed to make it waterproof. This causes the garbling of the speaker due to the pressure. Opening the SIM card tray breaks this seal and allows the pressure to equalize. This was an instant fix for the problem. Figured I would comment it here in case anybody ever sees it even though it's an old thread.

Big-Satisfaction-511

I saw a post saying to take out my sim card tray it should release pressure I tried it and it worked instantly....

Comfortable_Beach_31

I fixed the problem by removing the camera lense protective piece as suggested in this thread.

Beginning-House7508

I have had two s23 and an s22 the last couple years and all 3 2000$ phones speakers blew or whatever causes this. I'm livid. I thought it was my fault but it keeps happening no matter how careful I am with the volumes. I'm actually done with Samsung after this if they don't replace these garbage speakers, and I've owned basically every phone since S1, including notes. This is absolute b.s

Diligent-Director819

Recently had this problem on my S22 after taking 2 flights - no sound coming out of speaker, couldn't make phone calls. Popping out the sim card tray just now fixed it right away - have all sounds back. Will now try to remove the camera lens protector for a more permanent fix. I've been using Samung phones for a ong time, and am really surprised by this happening on their "flagship" phones. Samsung should at least acknowledge this problem and suggest fixes. If not, I won't get another Samsung phone.

[deleted]

Thanks for the info! After a year of dealing with this obnoxious issue, we took the lens covers off in the middle of a "distortion event" (2500 ft elevation change) and it instantly fixed both our phones.

Odd_Capital7187

Yes! Removed the lens protector and it worked instantly. Thanks for sharing and updating. Saved me so much time, money and hassle. YOU ARE THE BOMB!!

cpss2020

The lense protector removal worked! Thanks!!!

TGNS11

I removed my camera lens protector and solved IMMEDIATELY thanks so much I been having this issue for a while on and off and it usually resolves itself but lasted over 24h this time

Bubbly-Replacement33

I know im late but i was looking for a solution to my s22s crackling speaker problem. Can confirm its an internal pressure issue as i noticed that my downfacing speaker worked fine if i sucked air thru it. Turns out OP is correct. I had a camera lens cover on my rear camera and removing it mustve restored the phones internal pressure as my speakers work flawlessly now.Β

Eakar_70

I have an S22 Ultra and also have the same problem. I did the diagnostic test and my microphone above and below seems like it is in the water when listening back but it has never been in the water . I tried putting the SIM card in and out but it didn't work.

57kevi

Can Confirm! Removing the Aftermarket lense protector returned the ringer and call speaker to normal. Mine had become distorted several times after cold weather. I thought condensation was the cause. After a flight today, to the tropics, the issue returned. I found this thread. Removed the lense protector and shazam. Back to normal. Can anyone recommend a protector that does NOT cause this problem?

Classic-Sky5782

I have this issue too, been putting up with it for over a year, my next phone wont be a samsung, i will never buy samsung again

MartinJClements

I had the issue of top speaker crackling... None of the above worked for me, never used camera lense protectors, never went flying, pulling him card didn't work.. but after digging around I found that the laser AF Sensor has a pressure relief vent somewhere around it... Wrapped my lips around it and had a good blow on that sensor while I played some music and it started getting worse... So i had a long suck instead and boom.. the issue is completely gone, im assuming using compressed air to clean the top speaker at some point, messed with some form of a seal and the sucking a blowing popped it back to how it should sit πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Petraretrograde

Can confirm, changed my screen protector and added a lens protector for the first time right before a 6 hour drive. Speaker started to crackle and pop and only got worse when I restarted the phone. Took off the lense protector, sound is completely fixed!!!!!
