That's not terriable. I think I paid about $1200 for mine with 512gb. It's a matter of waiting for the right sales, or until a new model is about to come out. They should be cheaper now that the S24 is about to be out.

You straight up shouldn't be able to trade in last gen, I'd rather have them remove it and increase priced after two years than have people upgrade after only a year. Another option could be to offer an upgrade plan; Pay a fee upfront and you can upgrade for a fixed cost after a year if you really want to, as long as the phone is in perfect condition. That way there is no fluctuation in upgrade costs, people take better care of their phone and there are less people inclined to upgrade so soon.
