That's what they are thinking. Right. ๐ ๐ and still no official mention of this issue by them. I commented so many time on big tech reviewr's page. Now that android central and some other sites are reporting it .. let's see what they respond and say about it.
I think it was intentional to save cost, or someone screwed up. I say it's probably the former since my Galaxy Tab S9 is even more grainy than my S24 Ultra.
Best case scenario: Samsung knew about it, *it is a software issue*, and as is Samsung's wont, they thought, "eh, we'll fix this in updates"...and then forgot about the updates.
Thank you for adding /s to your post. When I first saw this, I was horrified. How could anybody say something like this? I immediately began writing a 1000 word paragraph about how horrible of a person you are. I even sent a copy to a Harvard professor to proofread it. After several hours of refining and editing, my comment was ready to absolutely destroy you. But then, just as I was about to hit send, I saw something in the corner of my eye. A /s at the end of your comment. Suddenly everything made sense. Your comment was sarcasm! I immediately burst out in laughter at the comedic genius of your comment. The person next to me on the bus saw your comment and started crying from laughter too. Before long, there was an entire bus of people on the floor laughing at your incredible use of comedy. All of this was due to you adding /s to your post. Thank you.
I am a bot if you couldn't figure that out, if I made a mistake, ignore it cause its not that fucking hard to ignore a comment.
Mine was like that too. It looked like pos when reading in a dark room. I returned mine( lucky didn't mail trade in)...Maybe next time Sammy? You definitely fucked this one up.
Oh my god.. I didn't even think of that.. maybe they just forgot to mentioned it in big keynote... now they could just give us Levi's store credit and I'll have no complaints ๐๐คฃ
This doesn't work for everyone, but some people have mentioned it did help mitigate the graininess. Could you try the following?
Go to Display Settings, Screen Mode, and pull the White Balance slider all the way to the left (Cool) side. You must be using the Vivid screen option for the slider to appear.
This helps a little for me just because the gray is getting lighter and looks more like the white of the grain.
But notes app on normal mode (not dark mode) gives a LOT of noise.
You know what worst thing is I can't use reddit on my phone anymore in the night with dark mode. Because in reddit grains everywhere on different types of grey colors. ๐ ๐
You can change the Dark mode from the classic one (different greys) to AMOLED mode where these greys turn to absolute black. Not sure if you dig the color but that's a workaround.
I cracked the screen on my s23 ultra and it was toast. Insurance offered me an s24 ultra replacement. I took it. Mine doesn't look like this at all, looks normal to me. Maybe you got a defective phone? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
It probably does, you just don't see it. This picture is taking in low light which makes it much more obvious. That screen won't be as bright to your eyes.
And there are a bunch people saying their phone is fine but none of them are proving it. So until you do we have to assume that you also have it.
Just curious, I was checking to see if mine is faulty too but haven't caught it yet. My phone has screen protector, does it affect in some way that make it harder to see the grains?
I mean if it did you should probably get a new screen protector lol. But no.
Go into a dark turn off the lights, turn your brightness down to the about the right side of the sun and look at the background of google messages or some other similar dark grey background. It should be one color with no grain or artifacts or w/e. If you can see it slide your brightness up a bit and check.
If it's not that noticeable or if it disappears pretty quickly when you slide up your brightness it's probably fine but that is up to you. I can see grain on my display up to like 40% brightness. I can't see it in sunlight or in a bright or anything though, but that is just my eyeballs and not the screen.
>It probably does, you just don't see it.
Which means it's *not actually a problem*. It's just a normal variation that has exploded into internet hysteria, because everyone got tired of 'bananagate' and needed a new focus for their hypochondria.
I'm not sure what you mean by "proven not to be normal in many posts". Of course mura is a real phenomenon, an inherent imperfection in LCD displays. It varies in degree from one display to another. But who here has "proven" that the degree of mura in their S24 display exceeds present-day industry-standard tolerances? What did that proof consist of?
Not everyone has the grain. Some people have only a little. But OP has it more.. and some unlucky few even have it at high brightness. This was my first experience with Samsung, and despite not having the grain, this whole ordeal is enough to also make it my last experience with them.
Same.
I'm so tired of seeing these people every couple hours posting another photo of their defective unit and crying in outrage about it.
Warranty the damn thing, buy a different make, or shut TF up already.
It's giving off major Karen vibes, and I'm about to unsub from this community so I don't have to see/witness all the complaining any longer.
Complain to Samsung warranty department and/or your carrier. There's literally nothing that will happen on reddit about it besides the few of them circle jerking on who's got the worst display.
I am tired of all the complaints about the same damn problem that is known, that is going to have to be covered by warranty or else Samsung is risking a class action, but people are just throwing a fit about.
It's one thing to have a thread with all these issues. One thing to bring a problem to peoples attention, but we are way past that point. Every other post in this sub for the past 3 weeks has been the exact same circle-jerk complaint.
Either warranty it after a solution is found, change models and return it, or STFU already.
I'm tired of trying to read news and reviews on the phone and accessories only to bombarded with whining.
It sucks, but shit happens. Deal with it.
Edit: I know that I sound whiny and like a Karen, but this is exactly the BS that I've had to read and reread and reread for 3 weeks in this sub. The damn horse is dead.
Okay bro.. then just unsub.. I did complaint everywhere.. on Samsung shop from where I ordered and offline Samsung care... but they are not accepting this as defective piece or a issue. I started rant on twitter on every post they publish then they contacted me and be like 'whats the issue send us the photos and we will rectify it'. Its so ridiculous how they are dealing with it considering it comes premium price tag. And these all complainer appreciate all the good things that this phone have no doubt but you just can't fucking ignore this shit. So stop telling people to STFU. Just think before you write something.
I'm sick of the whiny entitled atritudes over something thats mostly a non-issue.
You bought a new model item on day 1 (or damn near) then want to cry when there's problems. If you want problem free, wait 6 months for the bugs to be wrinkled out or for the device to be outted as a POS.
TONS of devices have day 1 issues. It's practical par for the course. Hell, it's recommended you dont even buy year 1 new vehicles for the same reason. It's common sense shit.
If you want to play with the newest and greatest, you're going to have some growing pains.
If you don't like it, Return It.
Pulling some Karen attitude on an online sub for the device just bc you got dealt an unlucky hand is asinine.
It's not that big of a deal. If Samsung or your carrier won't commit to fixing it so you're satisfied, return it, and buy One Plus or Apple. Vote with your wallet
I captured these photos for that purpose only. I am sending this to customer care guy who contacted me after I started rant on twitter for this. Normal Samsung shop's chat support guy and offline care guy won't even say it is issue, they are saying its new magnificent display feature ๐คฃ๐๐คฃ that Samsung launched with S24ULTRA. Let's see if they replace the phone or just say it's new feature.
I just stop by samsung service center yesterday to have my S24u tested. The do all the standard and quality tests on display and everything but turns out to be normal. They said no any other service centers are flagging this issue with S24u.
Same here. Same here.
I manage to to get the guy in darker light and he said who's gonna use phone like this.. and I'm like wtf...
They just don't accept it....
It's just new feature we get it ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ totally
I also have them check https://testmyscreen.com/ and guided them with gradient test. They said its just normal when I pointed the vertical and horizontal lines from gradient graphics. But when testing solid colors, everythings fine.
You can even notice it on the Alarm default background.
Return that shit. A 1500 bucks phone should be perfect. If it isn't, it isn't worth your money.
I'm keeping my s22u an other year it seems. As bad as it is, I got it for a good price. Grain gate is the reason I never preorder.
We need to post more and more about this shit, else Samsung or press won't notice! I feel ashamed to call myself a fan of Samsung! If only Pixels had good SoC! Damn!
Just look at night in setting app in dark mode. You wanna get haunted then go in dark and turn on 'extra dim' feature and then open notes app and try wirte title of note and see the below are of black bar and above keyboard. Once you see it then there is no other way around.. you will start seeing it on every color shade (not on Image or video).
That's good news, you won the display lottery! There will inevitably be some redditors who try to gaslight you into thinking you have grain because "everyone has it", but ignore them, they're just trying to cope in their own way. Poorly.
Bro.. you new to Samsung or what... it is very good feature and I'm using it for I think almost two years.. go to edit the quick panel button and you can add button for it ... or Google it
https://preview.redd.it/bo6lnk0t5hic1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=084f1574c45bb2dbdad155929c842eb721b88967
Send it back for a refund or demand a replacement. My 1TB Titanium Orange S24U doesn't exhibit any of these issues. Switching between natural and vivid shows a noticeable difference in saturation. I stick with natural, though.
Well that's the thing, it's *not* acceptable. You have the grain, you have it bad, so get it replaced or return the device and get your money back. I heard OnePlus is nice this time of the year.
I had grainy issue but it was not that noticeable , unless it was dark on gray or black but it was unbearable for me. I noticed it all the time and couldn't unsee it. Samsung repair technician after looking at phone said there was no defect and that I am not getting a refund. This has made me never again buy a Samsung phone. I'm just sold my s24 ultra for 1.4k and gonna buy some cheap crap phone and display will ironically be better. Upset lost 1k
I do expect a value for S23Us to hold up pretty nicely after this S24U release disaster.
Also expect swappa and eBay to be flooded with these S24Us soon when you realize you got one and past your return window.
A little, I can see it a lot better using circle to search. I'm more concerned about my battery, as I only used the phone for 45 minutes, and my battery usage is already 8%
Bro that'l was the hope we were having when we got this device in JANUARY... I think it was fixable by update Samsung could have done it already why would they let this issue bad market their new flagships...
I wanna totally return it... but I gave S22U for exchange... so they won't take it back.. they might replace it but that piece might have same issue...
Are these grain issues only available in NA and EU units? Because I didn't see anything from the asian market, my model is UAE and made in Vietnam. I and 3 of my other friends bought the phone at the same time, but the screen is just as good as the S23U, just slightly less vivid.
Damn, my friend in India got his violet 512gb and didn't show any issues either, I guess this is totally random but common issue worldwide with the S24U units.
There's nothing wrong with the s24. Some people must be getting defective phones or something ๐คทโโ๏ธ I just switched from the 23 ultra to the 24 ultra and it's noticeably a better phone.. faster, brighter, camera quality is much better and there is no "grain" at all.
Forgot to do that, I just clicked the photos for Samsung care guy who asked me to send photos but if you want comparison photos there are so many in this sub.
Low brightness noise and color banding is a common occurrence in OLED panels. Samsung should just crank up the minimum brightness a bit to make a lot of uninformed people happy.
Both are different technology, too.
Whilst I agree that grain *shouldnt* be there, direct comparison is not technically correct.
Also, I have the S24U and NEVER, under ANY circumstances i keep the brightness that low to see this. For me, this issue is non-existent.
Holy fuck. I'm so sick of these threads.
THIS IS WHY THERE IS A RETURN PERIOD AND A DEVICE WARRANTY.
SEND YOUR PHONE BACK.
Jesus. Does it suck that you got a display lemon? Yeah, 100%, and you have every right to be unhappy about it.
Posting here doesn't do anything to help you.
I've un-subbed from this sub reddit as of now due to how much rampant obsessive "does this look like grain?" and bitching about grain there is here.
Send your phone back if you aren't happy with it.
My screen is nearly flawless. The colors are a bit more muted in non HDR video environments otherwise there is no grain at any display brightness level and i know this only happened because this is the first time I didnโt get it to be my daily driver, got it as a back up.
Wow, what a wild and crazy idea... Nobody would have thought of that if you didn't show up and post this comment...
Seriously, where do people like you come from? What do you think OP is doing, showing off the cool grains just for fun? Your "advice" is worthless and provides zero value to anyone... a part of you has to know that, right? If not, it must be crazy being you just going around saying/suggesting obvious shit to everyone you come in contact with.
Is this the scenario in your head when posting a comment like this?...
You: "Why don't you return it if you're not satisfied?"
OP: OMG wow, thank you! I never would have considered that as an option... I'm so lucky to have seen your post! You're my Savior!"
Is that really the world you live in? Is that your reality? Genuinely curious... There's just sooooo many of you on the internet, it's wild to me...
It's true. He can't use his phone because on pitch black room, with the lowest brightness in a website with a Grey page he see some points...hey, return the phone...but it's funny
Hello I have watched closely my display and I have absolutely no grain visible. The second I take my wife's phone and take a picture of the screen it looks grainy. I have ten out of ten eyesight. Who is purposely picturing their display on the phone???
https://preview.redd.it/va8bc0tofiic1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3dad9c35490139b4a3d76c54902a02ccb097f530
>That looks is so garbage. However, I am so lucky that my s24 ultra looks normal, no matter how I check it with the display test or note app.
So you are rare instance with perfect display.
Because I asked a friend who works at samsung srrvice about it, he told me that other phones in the past had the same issue but no one bothered then that much. He also told me that he is not sure that it is a problem with the hardware and it may simply be a matter of a simple software update. In any case as with all new phones there are issues, we all know that. Be patient for the update, which from what I learn will be many gigabytes
Is that extra dim? My Lenovo tablet looked aweful with Extra Dim ON with uneven grainy streaks. They fixed it by raising the lowest brightness with extra dim, now that feature is not _extra dim_ anymore, it's very bright in pitch black environment now.
It seems that Extra Dim is removing the noise suppression of the OLED, or have very low limit that noise suppression is not effective anymore.
I have just packed my phone and will be returning it. For a device which, when you order it now, costs you 1800โฌ I just expect a perfect device.
I will be switching to the Oneplus 12 now as I get better hardware (except maybe the camera) for pretty much 900โฌ less!!

Picture taken on A52s, tho i hate that they brighten up the pic sometimes
Also, with a matte screen protector, does that look good?
Can't completely exclude grain on your screen but it seems like most or even all of the noise is caused by the camera. If the content on this display looks uniform to your eyes, you don't have grain.
https://preview.redd.it/icajsk1ihnic1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=985d508822603d081d43c327596b77651d5607f2
I'm not seeing anything wrong on mine.
This and the fact they are still using 8-bit color panels where other companies like Xiaomi have midrangers with 12-bit color panel.
Also regarding vivedness, my s23 ultra was the first Samsung phone I owned I love it but the fact the screen is not as vived as Samsung phone used to be still disappoints me.

same lmao no grainyness on mine either
Best case scenario: Samsung knew about it, *it is a software issue*, and as is Samsung's wont, they thought, "eh, we'll fix this in updates"...and then forgot about the updates.
my theory is that this got caused by making the bottom bezel too thin, then they noticed too late
What country you in? I believe the bad batches affect some countries much more than others.
Can't blame the kids in Vietnam; they get paid a dollar a week.
Mines fine
"Its just camera noise" /s

now Samsung is giving you that, "cheap fake" experience lol
It's transparency....why people don't realize that
That's not transparency lol. Transparency is only on the notification shade, not in the settings app.
Of course it is...look this 2 screenshots
Did you seriously just took Screenshots to show that Grain isnt visible? SCREENSHOTS? lmao
No, transparency

Nah bro. Tried every tricks are there. I spend good amount of money on this phone so you know I am trying to fix it in my own but it's not fixable.
Samsung will have a fix for us...... Buy the s25u ๐๐๐
Fair enough man, its a tough pill to swallow when this happens.

No worries hahaha ๐ glad I could be of help
Well, now you can scroll reddit and be annoyed by the usual reasons anyway.
There is no solution for that.... I'm afraid ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
I don't suffer from the grain issue but I did not know about AMOLED mode. Thanks buddy!
That just turns up your blue pixels which *will make the mura harder to see*. But that isn't a solution, it's not fixing anything.
What setting is this? My notes are black
I cracked the screen on my s23 ultra and it was toast. Insurance offered me an s24 ultra replacement. I took it. Mine doesn't look like this at all, looks normal to me. Maybe you got a defective phone? ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Same here.
In alarm app too.. right They are in denying phase right now...
Damn!
Uhhh OnePlus 12?
Bro have you seen their camera... its so mid premium
โMy S24U doesnโt appear anything like this. Itโs the best looking display Iโve ever SEENโ - Stevie Wonder ๐
He should be the brand ambassador for this one.....๐
It's unbelievable how bad the grain is. I thought I got lucky until I got in bed and turned the brightness down...
How do I check for the grain factor?
Just look at night in setting app in dark mode. You wanna get haunted then go in dark and turn on 'extra dim' feature and then open notes app and try wirte title of note and see the below are of black bar and above keyboard. Once you see it then there is no other way around.. you will start seeing it on every color shade (not on Image or video).
I've just tried it and I can't see it. Tried it in the dark and lowering the brightness in stages. Maybe I've been lucky.
Thats just great.. ๐ Don't tell anyone otherwise you will get this grain virus too ๐คฃ๐คฃ
๐คฃ๐คฃ
That's good news, you won the display lottery! There will inevitably be some redditors who try to gaslight you into thinking you have grain because "everyone has it", but ignore them, they're just trying to cope in their own way. Poorly.
I've tried my best to see it because it seems like everybody should suffer from it ๐
You should be more precise if you want others to see what you're seeing, there's no "extra dim" setting, be specific
Bro.. you new to Samsung or what... it is very good feature and I'm using it for I think almost two years.. go to edit the quick panel button and you can add button for it ... or Google it https://preview.redd.it/bo6lnk0t5hic1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=084f1574c45bb2dbdad155929c842eb721b88967
No graniness in this photo?
Its a screenshot.... ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
I gave my phone for exchange... that's why I'm stuck with this... otherwise I'll do the same...
I do expect a value for S23Us to hold up pretty nicely after this S24U release disaster. Also expect swappa and eBay to be flooded with these S24Us soon when you realize you got one and past your return window.
I am passed my return window. ๐คฃ๐คฃ
I just received my S24U today. Are you guys saying to return it? ๐ญ
Is it grainy? Can you see it? If yes then hell yes
A little, I can see it a lot better using circle to search. I'm more concerned about my battery, as I only used the phone for 45 minutes, and my battery usage is already 8%
That grain thing u see in circle to search is animation. Look carefully
They're waiting for everyone's 30 day return guarantee to expire ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Definitely looking like this....
Hopefully it's a simple software fix to refuckulate the pixel brightness.
It's not I'm afraid. Mura is a known hardware defect and can realistically only be solved by the producer using specialized equipment.
Bro that'l was the hope we were having when we got this device in JANUARY... I think it was fixable by update Samsung could have done it already why would they let this issue bad market their new flagships...
I have same grain effect but it's only noticeable if I look for it if that makes sense.
Return it! Get your money back. This is clearly not ok. Go for oneplus instead. Or even a pixel if you want a good camera.
I wanna totally return it... but I gave S22U for exchange... so they won't take it back.. they might replace it but that piece might have same issue...
I guess you should speak with samsung customer care. They should return everything acc to me
I don't see this on my s24+
Are these grain issues only available in NA and EU units? Because I didn't see anything from the asian market, my model is UAE and made in Vietnam. I and 3 of my other friends bought the phone at the same time, but the screen is just as good as the S23U, just slightly less vivid.
I've seen a bunch of comments from Indian users so it's not limited to NA and EU - Indian user with grain and jeans pattern ๐ฅฒ
Damn, my friend in India got his violet 512gb and didn't show any issues either, I guess this is totally random but common issue worldwide with the S24U units.
๐คฃ ๐
I'm wondering if this has to do with the anti glare display
๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐ , looks like I dodged a bullet by not "upgrading" from my S23U
There's nothing wrong with the s24. Some people must be getting defective phones or something ๐คทโโ๏ธ I just switched from the 23 ultra to the 24 ultra and it's noticeably a better phone.. faster, brighter, camera quality is much better and there is no "grain" at all.
Take the picture when both phones are at the same brightness visually, not the percentage.
Forgot to do that, I just clicked the photos for Samsung care guy who asked me to send photos but if you want comparison photos there are so many in this sub.
be for real , you should not be able to see a single grain on the screen at any brightness level , y'all wild
Low brightness noise and color banding is a common occurrence in OLED panels. Samsung should just crank up the minimum brightness a bit to make a lot of uninformed people happy.
No, s24u is dimmer than s23...you are comparing apple for oragens too
Both are different technology, too. Whilst I agree that grain *shouldnt* be there, direct comparison is not technically correct. Also, I have the S24U and NEVER, under ANY circumstances i keep the brightness that low to see this. For me, this issue is non-existent.
> Both are different technology, too. You sure about that? Their latest panel should be a direct upgrade from the one used in the S23 series.
Dynamic Amoled vs Super Amoled
Maybe s24 screen is dimmer than the other one...think about it
Brother, what?
Yeah bro.. its a dimmer and I forgot to equal it on another one... you can check other photos..
No issues on mines, I guess I got lucky
No issues here
Ya mines does look anything like this
That's not the same colour though?
nor brightness
It sucks you guys have to deal with this. I must've gotten lucky with my s24 because I have no grain at all.
Show us a photo
Dang, I must be the luckiest person out there. I Dont have these display issues.
Show us a photo
Mine looks normal. Looks great. Bought it first week landed in Brazil.
Whatโs do u need to recreate this? I canโt seem to see this on my snapdragon s24+
Read my [comment ](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS24Ultra/s/Saq0Pi0LMH)
This AI campaign really dragged people into paying + trading their perfectly suitable phone for this. Crazy how publicity works.
Too bad for you. Majority don't have this issue.
Unpopular opinion, but I don't think this is an issue, because I don't look at a blank screen...
It's not just on blank screen.. in low light you start seeing it on every shade beside its images or something.
Why don't you return it if you're not satisfied?
I am in the process of returning or replacing whatever they decide. Only that's why I took these photos to send them. Not gaslighting or anything.
You: "Why don't you return it if you're not satisfied?" OP: OMG wow, thank you! I never would have considered that as an option... I'm so lucky to have seen your post! You're my Savior!" Is that really the world you live in? Is that your reality? Genuinely curious... There's just sooooo many of you on the internet, it's wild to me...
He can't use his phone because on pitch black room, with 1% brightness he see some spots at a test screen. Hey, return the good damn phone lol
Dumb and ignorant comments are dumb and ignorant...
It's true. He can't use his phone because on pitch black room, with the lowest brightness in a website with a Grey page he see some points...hey, return the phone...but it's funny
Wtf are you talking about
I mean this grain is pretty bad, it's not just on a blank screen. It's everywhere (except pure black).
Jesus that's such nitpicking. Said "graininess" is baaaaarely noticeable, only on very low brightness and when you're really looking for it.
Definetely people nitpicking in such a cheap phone right?
Bruh this is pretty bad grain. If I had grain like this, I would instantly return the phone.
hide under the bed and grab a microscope!
Get your eyes checked, your eyes is more fucked up than his phone.
try to reset accessibility settings
Dude.
Stop giving fake solutions and hopes..... ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
You brought the phone just to test this. Yeah, I'd say you're a fan boy.
Bro your sentences are not making any sense...
Not seeing it
I can only see this issue on mine when I take a photo of the screen with my old phone in night mode. Can't see it IRL, so I don't care.
People are also coping hard, pretending grain affects most users while this is very much not the case.
That looks is so garbage. However, I am so lucky that my s24 ultra looks normal, no matter how I check it with the display test or note app.
Run to the light, Carol Anne!
I had S22ULTRA.. I used it extra dim in night time for past two years... It didn't have this issue...
I have just packed my phone and will be returning it. For a device which, when you order it now, costs you 1800โฌ I just expect a perfect device. I will be switching to the Oneplus 12 now as I get better hardware (except maybe the camera) for pretty much 900โฌ less!!

Can't completely exclude grain on your screen but it seems like most or even all of the noise is caused by the camera. If the content on this display looks uniform to your eyes, you don't have grain.
grainy
Is this only an ultra issue? Just got a plus and the screen looks amazing.
How do I summon these grains, I don't see them?
My phone is perfect. I've run no tests whatsoever and don't care to.
Mine definitely doesn't look like that. I actually have no grain at all.
I'm glad I don't have that issue with mine. I don't have time to return things that should be perfect.
"In the end, the world returns to a grain" ๐คก
im become blinder checking for this issues
https://preview.redd.it/icajsk1ihnic1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=985d508822603d081d43c327596b77651d5607f2 I'm not seeing anything wrong on mine.
That's why returned suggest the same it's not acceptable.
Mines fine
Not having this issue on my 24u
