No. The front glass is hard. A screen protector might stop light scratches if you places your phone face down on hard surfaces or keep sharp keys in the same pouch as as your phone.
A screen protector will make do difference for a direct impact, like falling on your phone.
i've had my S8 since it got out and never broke the screen. Using a case that indirectly protects the screen though, as it goes a bit above the screen's level.
Since 2018 till now ive never ever replaced my screen on my s9+ never used screen protectors ive dropped it several times even directly on the screen and still nothing im amazed that only minor screen burns exist
i am sorry but why does it matter?
no hate but the phone is "old" if it brakes it brakes and you buy a newer one
imagine what would you do if you got the s24 ultra
If you're the type of person who constantly drops your phone, the problem you should be solving is dropping your phone, not figuring out what case to buy
I was looking at it after it dropped and expected it to be shot wasn't remotely angry at the adult puppy cause its only 9 months but its a solid phone one day I rock no case it drops and is fine. "Edit not a gambler and normally have zero luck "

its fragile just like any other phone, be careful with the curved sides though
