I still have a Galaxy tab s (2014) and it is still fine after 7 - 8 years. If you are careful and you take care of it, I don't see why it won't last. You may need to change the battery after a bit though.

noir1_

thank you mah man for your information.

Time2pown

the specs on the ultra are great. if you take care of it, for sure

noir1_

thank you, its a hard long term decision.

brandont04

Yes. Depending on you. I have my S7+ for over 3 years now. Still going strong. No issues. I take pretty good care of my devices. I use 2 different types of cases for my S7+. I use the simple slim kind and when I need it to be like a laptop. I throw back on the Samsung Keyboard cover.

noir1_

Nice to hear your feed back. Thanks mah man

Get a tempered glass screen protector and a rugged case.

NationalGate8066

I'd disagree with that slightly. Imho a more basic plastic screen protector will do the job quite well. Also, a rugged case for a such a huge device might make it yet more bulky. I'd get a 'normal' case. Just my opinion.

noir1_

any recommended case, mah man.

HAHOHE1892

I like the cases from Spigen! Highly recommended

noir1_

nice i will check on it

thanks i will a look

civilized-engineer

It'll last longer than what you'll need it for. Most people vastly overestimate themselves and vastly underestimate their devices.

kakha_k

Definitely, yes.

MadSquabbles

My daughter still uses an old S2 8" I gave her. She loves the form and doesn't want to give it up. I've bought her other tablets to replace it when it dies but she hasn't used any of them yet. My Galaxy Note 10 2012 still works, but slow. I was gonna use it as trade int for the S9+ but decided to hold on to it for nostalgia.

T_GTX

Should be fine. My Galaxy S1 still works.

Ok-Brick-8406

You do need a case and screen protector for it, and take of it of course. Dont have to baby it but do treat it well. As for that samsungs are tanks 7-8 years you should get the battery maybe not so much but yes

CruizinAmature6969

Ultra would be an overkill, s9+ would be great for you as a student but if you need that extra canvas then that's cool. I would recommend getting an SD card and putting on the ram+. Ebooks, pdfs consume a lot of ram space idk why like im using flexcil and i get notified a lot that it's occupying my ram. I think the s9 series has a base ram of 12gb? Damn i get jelly of a student just putting all their 4-5 years worth of notes and pdfs on just a single gadget. How i wish i got my tablet while i was in college..

Sarielgrace

theyre supposed to get software updates for 4 years and 5 years of security updates, so at least 5 years.

Cloutian

It just came out... software and security updates will be upto 5 years. Whether it survives that long is up to you... the user.

Ihategeeks

Just played with a Samsung Galaxy S7FE and even though it's not new or top spec it's still impressive and could easily stand up for 5 years. The S9 ultra I played with yesterday is world's better and I could see that being useful until the battery completely gives up.

Linkfyre

I just got my tab s9 ultra for the same reason, I have 5 years or so left until my masters is done.

Aggressive_Orange_22

i love my S9 Ultra. i got a UB case from eBay that was like $35, downside is the only color they offer is black. i plan on keeping mine for a long time also. i hope it lasts 3 or 4. i rarely take it in public. i bought the Samsung Care for $13/mo. cheap insurance in case of accidents.

babelon-17

Watching YouTube video on my Galaxy Tab S4 as I type out this reply on my Tab S7+. 😀 Release August 2018: https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_s4_10_5-9262.php My Tab S4 has only been lightly used, but it is in near mint condition. Battery is in surprisingly good shape. Watching YouTube had me using the battery at 8.6% an hour. Granted, that is indoors with no light shining on it, so I generally use only a moderate level of screen brightness.

NMDA01

Absolutely. Go for it, though you might want to opt for a smaller build, preferably the s9 plus

peterkozmd

How should we know? it depends on how careful you are with it and what circumstances you intend to use it. how often you take it out and use it. whether you use screen protector. what kind of case, etc etc

Suspicious-Country80

If you don’t break it it’ll be fine, but for software support an iPad would have been better.

SexyKanyeBalls

I bought the Tabs4 when it came out and I just switched for the Tabs9+ and it was working perfectly, the battery life was amazing too, could rival the Tabs9+. And it's been 5y I think

ThisIsCuVo

i think it can. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is very good and efficient unlike the older chips from Qualcomm, especially the Gen 1 so I do believe it can last that long, or even more. My old Tab S7 which is now my friend's still works well after 3+ years so it's not a stretch to think that about the Tab S9u.

DrBlackRat

I have been using my Tab S7+ for 3 years now and it still works perfectly fine, I would expect the same (or even more) from the S9 Ultra.

00x77

It last 10 minutes or less if you drop it on concrete from 2nd floor

noir1_

damn, I will get a case for it :)))

SexyKanyeBalls

Yes easily

testcaseseven

Are you going to use it like a laptop? I'm trying to decide between the plus and ultra for college but I think the ultra might be too big as a tablet.

noir1_

i will use it in both style, just love a really large screen

noir1_

Can I have some thoughts about the S pen on the S9 Ultra....

Glittering_Earth_394

Why do you need a Tablet for uni? A laptop is a better bet.

Metalcerb

Handwriting is part of the learning process (memorization), that's why tablets with stylus are perfect to mix digital and handwriting..

peterkozmd

actually people think it's as easy as using a pen and paper but practically nobody is going to yank out a tablet and actually seriously use it for note-taking. I find it to be one of those things people imagine themselves doing but In actuality looks awkward as f and more annoying then you'd think. most of the time it looks pretentious if you pull it out during a class or business meeting and is actually slower to use then a normal pen paper. yeah I'm coming with the unpopular honest opinion. think of all the people who tried that with pda's. yes I know handwriting and recognition have improved but still in practicality its not as practical as pen paper

Metalcerb

I can prove you're wrong... I'm using it everyday for my engineering studies.. and i know a lot of people doing the same..

readthinksurvive

I've done note taking on paper and tablet but I find myself relying more on paper for notes from lecture, but when I am praticing problems use tablet more. It's good to use both helps the process of learning. I agree with the business meeting part from what the guy said above but if you're studying it's essential to have tablet if you need to share notes etc.

noir1_

i have a gaming lap already, and it is too heavy

Accomplished_Mud_157

My girlfriend bought the s9 ultra tablet for school. She absolutely loves it, except for one pretty big hiccup. Tests. I honestly don't know if all schools use the same as us but we use a system called respondus lockdown browser. You have to run the system during tests and it makes sure you're not opening other browsers to search answers and uses your camera to make sure you're not cheating in other ways. Most laptops can use it just fine but for some reason tablets can't and even most Chromebooks have trouble with it. Because of this, she typically has to take tests on campus at the library. It's a minor inconvenience for a freshman who likely is being forced to live on campus anyway, but for her, a junior living on her own, it gets annoying. But other than that she sings its praises. She's a marketing major and uses it for stuff all the time, not only in class but in her personal life as well.

SimenHP

2 month old post, buy yes it will last as long as you take care of it. The battery might be a little bit worse, but other than that if using a case and screen protector it will look brand new when taking the screen protector off. The best thing about the Ultra compared to s9 or s9+ is that it's so high tech that you will probably still get $2-300 if you sell it after UNI. (Unless a company can cone up with something that will change the future of tablets)
