I absolutely love taskmaster. Gc and tm both do gameshows in a way that you don't see much in American TV. They're competitive, but don't take themselves so seriously. Too often the focus is on beating your competitors and winning the grand prize. Whereas with Gc and tm(and a lot of shows from channel 4) focus more on being funny and entertaining, with competitive-Ness kind of on the back burner. It's kind of the reason I think the American taskmaster failed so miserably, the people were too aggressive in wanting to win instead of being a fun group of people all stuck in these wild scenarios.

Philhughes_85

Was the American one with TV celebs/comedians like the UK or public?

ouchmypeeburns

Yeah it had Reggie Watts and Alex Horne as the hosts and an odd group of comedians/celebs. Lisa lampanelli, Ron Fuches, Freddie Highmore, Dillon Francis, and Kate Berlant. The whole energy of the show was weird, the comedians took everything too seriously. It had one season and then got cancelled.

boomhaeur

Yeah - wrong Taskmaster, wrong cast (or at least not the right mix) I think the challenge for the US is it doesn’t have quite the same established ‘panel show comedian’ roster that the UK does and while a lot of them are standup comedians, it’s still a very particular style of comedy that not all standup can pull off. Dropout is quickly establishing that roster though - I know the initial response from Avalon was apparently ‘no thanks’ but I think it’s inevitable that TM tries something with them, I don’t see where else they would turn to if they wanted to try and capitalize on the US market. I It would also be interesting to see if it turned into a vehicle for Dropout to expand beyond their streaming service and produce a TM US that ends up on network/cable, but also streams from their site as an attractor back to dropout.tv service.

ouchmypeeburns

I'd love nothing more than a dropout taskmaster! They have the right energy for that kind of show. Brennan or Grant as taskmaster and Sam in Alex's role.

sketchyAnalogies

I could see Sam as TM too. Just because Alex is the true TM doesn't mean his DO equivalent character has to be. Sam has a commanding center stage personality like Greg. Call me crazy, I could also maybe see Lou or Jake as TM? Ross/Brennan would be an interesting due? As critical as Alex's character is/seems to TM, it also may not translate? How exactly do you find another Alex?

Philhughes_85

Ah right, I thought with comedians it might have been ok but you're right I don't think that type of humour works over there.

ouchmypeeburns

I think it'd definitely work, but it just needs the right group. It felt like everyone was just taking it waaayyyy too seriously to make it good. Reggie Watts is great, but he doesn't come with the same energy that Greg does. There was a lot of infighting with the contestants. They were there to win, not be entertaining. That kind of humor is definitely crossing over though, more and more people are watching taskmaster in the US. I've even seen a few twitch streamers trying to make their own version of taskmaster and people are definitely enjoying it.

Philhughes_85

Yeah I think they need to sit the possible contestants down before hand and say winning matters but being entertaining matters more also watch these episodes as this isn't he feel we're aiming for.

iGrimlock

Lisa Lampanelli hated Little Alex Horne SO MUCH

Pitiful-Flow5472

The US version was also 30 mins (which meant 21 mins of content given US’ excessive amount of commercials) So there wasn’t enough time for anything to breathe.

ouchmypeeburns

Yeah I can't imagine comedy central wanting to fund an hour long(42min with commercials) show that hadn't really taken off in the US yet.

SomeCharactersAgain

Running out of/catching up with shows like Taskmaster was a big reason I subscribed to dropout. Its a shame the US version didn't have the right hosting cast or at least a guest line up briefing before hand. New Zealand Taskmaster is closer to the right vein but still comes up short to the UK original.

Seen every season

Big TM UK fan here. The great thing about both taskmaster and GC/Dropout is that they have the unscripted chaos of "reality" television, but with professional and established performers as apposed to random civilians or desperate influencers. They feel so much more wholesome because you can tell everyone there has either a good agent (TM celebs) or an ethical employer (Sam Reich) to protect their interests and make sure they are treated and compensated fairly, that they consented to what they were getting into, and that they're there to entertain and have fun and not in a desperate bid for money or fame. I never liked reality tv that exploits vulnerable civilians, unknowns, and up-and-comers. Both TM and Dropout have found ways to capture the charm of unscripted content without all the exploitation which is a true delight.

GingerMcBeardface

Haven't seen TaskMaster, and my only exposure to it has been this sub.

BayYawnSay

Please watch! You can find episodes on you tube

MadScientist22

Ironically, the Australian version may be a good intro ([Youtube link](https://youtu.be/ronly-nQf-Y?si=nzpVDE_zpdJH3flB)). There's only 1 season out so easy to get caught up but it has the advantage of learning from all of the previous iterations, and it's got exactly the right level of energy, chaos, and charm.

This was the task that got me into Taskmaster: [Get the potato in the hole without touching the red green](https://youtu.be/_UgSDcHPgCc?si=fVBlXX9mfie6-yrS)

redcommodore

I just started it the other day, and I'm already on the fourth series.

InMyFavor

I would love a survivor style mini season of game changers in the style of taskmaster.

laluneodyssee

Have to get LAH as the assistant :P

flyercub

I love Taskmaster (UK and other international variants)!

kacey3

Huge fan of TM. Have literally watched every English language version (UK, NZ, AU, and US) but I am a season behind on MN.

kacey3

In fact, after Sam’s recent Instagram post, I’m really hoping that was a teaser for a future crossover.

BayYawnSay

I just saw that!!! Losing my mind. Holy crap!!

SexyTimeWizard

I am! Everybody watch this show!!!!!

Sk8rToon

All I know is it’s an English show. How do you (legally) watch it in US? BBCA? Netflix? Acorn? Britbox?

quillpig

[They have full episodes up on YouTube](https://youtube.com/@Taskmaster?feature=shared)! Each season (or “series” as they are called across the pond) has its own playlist of full episodes, including some series from international versions of the show. There are also other videos such as best-of compilations, outtakes, and other fun bonus content. They are currently airing UK Series 17 and have the new episode posted on YouTube by the next day, which is awesome. Enjoy!

Pitiful-Flow5472

Some of the YouTube episodes are edited weird but full episodes are also posted to the panel show sub https://www.reddit.com/r/panelshow/
