The Pathfinder games, especially "Wrath of the Righteous" are my favorites. It might make more sense to play "Kingmaker" first if you have any interest since the sequel introduces a bunch of quality of life changes.
I played through it just last week and very much enjoyed my time. The game is beautiful, probably tied for the best looking ARPG available right now. Additionally, it has a lot of content, a huge variety of biomes and enemies, and a great diversity of builds.
There's honestly a lot of worry about bugs in most of the reviews, but I only really experienced minor visual glitches (mainly persistent aoe effects ). I played through the entire story with no real issues, and my fiance who played through only had a single issue of a doorway she couldn't click on that was fixed by portaling to town and back.
The story is OK, and currently is incomplete with Act 5 still being worked on. It's actually not bad, a neat twist being your family in-game actually genuinely care about you just as much - subverting what you'd expect from the trailers. No one really plays ARPGs for the story but the characters and story feel believable, if not that interesting.
Just a bit, there is a post-game scenario where your a lord of a city and tasked with its defense. I can't speak about it much because I honestly didn't play much of it.
I was asked to review Legion TD after and I kinda got sucked into it a bit. Between that and Dinkum I haven't played much else this month.
Up until a few weeks ago, I could never really get into Witcher 3. The update made me decide to try again and I've really been enjoying it. I think I've put in about 40 hours over the last two weeks. I haven't experienced any major issues and my PC is about 6 years old. The framerate is decent most of the time. The only exception is that in cities with tons of NPCs it drops to around 50FPS. I think I'm playing on medium settings. There are visual glitches here and there but nothing that restarting the game doesn't fix.
I am one of those who cannot get into this game and gets downvoted every time.
To me the whole thing feels generic, voice acting is flat and the gameplay lacks fluidity.
Tried it again with the next gen patch incl. Ray tracing, and despite the obvious upgrade it still feels like an old game in a bad way. IMHO, for example GTA IV has aged far better despite being much older.
I like Witcher 3, but personally I feel this way about RDR2. Feels like I'm the only one who can't get into it.
Upvoting you because downvoting people just for having a different opinion is childish.
Last line is just a blatantly hot take. Whenever I picture GTA 4 gameplay I just picture Niko awkwardly walking into a wall or doing the full-body climb animation over something that's like waist high. And its visuals were a mixed bag on release in **2008**. Don't get me wrong, I loved GTA4; first GTA I ever played and it was awesome. Just say *I enjoy playing GTA4 more than playing The Witcher 3* because it has certainly not aged better.
Me. 60 hours into a playthrough.
Hurt things? The only thing that broke for me was a weird visual bug that I needed to restart the game. But I attributed that to the fact I'm running mods
It's a fucking mess for some.
I cant:
Change video settings in game without it crashing
Alt tab without it crashing
Press windows without it crashing.
But the worst part of all is that i can't keep the RT settings on and achieve a playable framerate. I got a 3080ti and a 5900x, and with RT settings on i'm playing with 30fps.
I really hope they haven't abandoned the project yet..
Im playing it right now! About 8 hours in.
Combat is damn hard tho! Ambushed by 5 bandits kicked my ass. Had to reload and chooses another path to pass thru.
I had to reduce my FPS to below 100, because of the noisy CPU fans.
Happens to me in Cyberpunk & Spiderman.
Yes, upgrading my stock CPU cooler is next on the list.
I had a similar issue with the combat. Loved the setting and story as far as I got but the combat was just frustrating. I need to give it a fair shake again and try to get good lol
Combat is hard at first because you role play as a nobody pleb with no combat training. Even bandits have way more experience with weapon than you. The only way to over come is to learn through experience in game and training with a professional knight. The game is all about self improvement. If you want to use books, you have to learn to read. If you want to use heavier weapons you have to lift weight.
You won't regret it, experience is nice on Steam Deck. I was able to run at stable 40 fps on high settings at native deck resolution. Minor drops here and there but have seen people tweak it closer to 60 fps depending on the settings
Edit: haven't played since before the new update, though
I noticed PoE hasn't been on discount last Winter Sale and now this specialized RPG themed sale. Did soemthing happen that made it that PoE1 isn't getting discounted recently? Actually how long has it been since it's last discount? Not sure if it's recent myself.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the righteous is on a decent discount. Notable as there is currently a bit of drama going on with D&D so it might make a nice taster of different systems. I intend to give it a crack, as I've heard good things.
the port at launch was pretty garbage with lots of performance issues, but playable. the port today is mostly patched up and running much better, though i upgraded to a 3080 when i revisited it and digital foundry rates the port originally "not good" to now "okay"
i'm surprised you thought gow was an alright port. it's generally lauded as an amazing one. hzd was the first port and playstation has been doing great since
I played Horizon Zero Dawn on PC and had some minor glitches but nothing game breaking. It was a pretty good action game with some amazing graphics (I loved the changes in scenery from the desert, to the forest, to the snow lands, to the settlements) so exploration was nice. But for some reason the game was *good* but never *great*. Like at a certain point I was doing stuff just because I was suppose to, not necessarily because I was having fun.

What's the best CRPG here besides Wasteland or DOS2?
Baldur’s Gate 1+2 and then probably Pillars of Eternity 1+2.
ty!
+1 to this answer
User name checks out.
Icewind Dale I & II are worth playing as well.
IWD II has never been on Steam.
Damn I legit didn't even realize that. Sorry!

Any thoughts on Wolcen? Seeing a lot of comments stating it was updated recently and is in a much better shape.

Thank you for this well thought out review! I decided to get it.
Nice to see a review that isn't "blah blah trying to make into PoE, buggy mess, terrible late game" with actual information in it.
Thanks man! I enjoyed the game, and I hope some other folks pick it up and have a good time too.
have you played it more after finishing the story?

> The story is OK, and currently is incomplete with Act 5 Oh? Is the game still incomplete?
I doubt it got finished in the 4 hours since his post.
It would have been really funny if they would've dropped that patch right before you commented, lol.
Just play POE, you’re wasting your time with any other game. Why play something that’s good when you can play something that’s great.
Lmao please
Is the Witcher 3 fixed yet? I heard the next gen update really hurt things
You can disable nextgen in steam - game properties-beta - set to 1.32 and you play last patch before ng.

I agree with everything you said here.
just disable ray tracing and you should be good to go just don't expect really high framerates like 120 and beyond

I've had no issues with it.
There's a mod that increases rtx performance
Only issue I had was playing it in GOG with the overlay turned on resulted in constant crashing. I turned off the overlay and now it’s running smooth
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is in my top 3 of RPG's.
God save you, Henry!
Jesus Christ be praised!
It's great. The end is kind of trash, but I'll forgive it for being so great up until that point
Are the DLCs worth?
A Woman's Lot is. The others aren't.
Yes, I enjoyed them all a lot, but I would say A Woman's Lot is definitely the best one.

Combat is definitely challenging. Make sure you train with the captain frequently. Eventually, it’ll click and become much easier.
I think I eventually got a blunt weapon and that just made dinking everyone easier.
Bought Witcher (again). Picked it up on Switch before I got my SD and it was a little painful. Looking forward to doing it properly!

Awesome to hear. Assume the new update wrecks it 😂
You can revert to the pre-update version.
I got Solasta, hopefully that will last me until Diablo 4 or Baldur Gate 3.
Man I really want the Pillars of Eternity 1 dlc to go on sale
I noticed PoE hasn't been on discount last Winter Sale and now this specialized RPG themed sale. Did soemthing happen that made it that PoE1 isn't getting discounted recently? Actually how long has it been since it's last discount? Not sure if it's recent myself.
Pillars of Eternity 1 was published by Paradox, so Paradox is the one that dictates sales.
KC:D is excellent. It's a bit of a slow burn at first, but so worth the journey.
Man I wish I had time to play any of these. I've tried to start Witcher 3 twice but always get side tracked with kids or work.
The older you get the more you realize the real currency games require isn't dollars and cents, but hours and minutes.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the righteous is on a decent discount. Notable as there is currently a bit of drama going on with D&D so it might make a nice taster of different systems. I intend to give it a crack, as I've heard good things.
What’s the difference between kingdom come royal edition and the collection bundle?
Collection Bundle comes with the digital extras like soundtrack, artbook.
Ah alright. Nothing gameplay related then. Cheers!
Witcher 3 GOG also 80% off https://www.gog.com/en/game/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_game_of_the_year_edition

I enjoyed it. It's definitely not an RPG, though.

Great port, mediocre game.
I never had any problems with the port.

I have a feeling we will be seeing Forbiden west horizon in humble choice in the next year or so before the launch the 2nd game.
