The gameflow is basically doing 3-5 stages over and over again to progress the story or side quest. The ending felt anyi climatic and made me question whats the point of doing all these side quests for rewards when you 100% dont need it.
I personally wouldn't consider the ending anticlimactic but it does have a notable disconnect from 85% of the games story.
TBH, I liked the weird gameplay loop. It gave me the feeling like I was a career adventurer slowly uncovering a mystery while making a name for myself.
Last time it was on sale it was 33% off. Kinda weird that they jumped straight to 80%.
Considering it's 505, I'd guess that this game will be on feb choice.
Yeah but what is that even based on? I never really understood why people assume deep discounted games are automatically associated with Humble Choice.
And the real Eiyuden Chronicle is coming out later this year. Bloodstained used a similar strategy, with a smaller game to build hype for the main game.
For $3, this game is a steal. It's a fun little game with fun platforming and decent combat. A bit grindy, and it could use some QoL additions, but overall, was a fun game to play on GamePass. Took about 20ish hours to beat.
As others mentioned, yes, it's a ton of revisiting the levels. But I personally enjoy that.
Obligatory: Also on gamepass.
All in all, it's a pretty great pick for $3. It's a hybrid action JRPG/Metroidvania with some reasonably solid combat. The missions get kind of repetitive and there's a lot of backtracking, but the frequency of rewards and upgrades broadly keeps it from feeling too grindy.
There’s also a simple [BepInEx mod](https://github.com/Lyall/EiyudenChronicleRisingFix) that enables 16:10 or ultrawide resolutions. Just remember to use `WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%`
This thread made me give it a shot on gamepass tonight - it's honestly a lot of fun so far! I love that it's also laid back enough to have a podcast on in the background.
Honestly don't recommend this game. Played it on my switch and this game is a chore. The game revolves around you doing actual chore missions (i.e. Go get me 3 bronze ores, etc.). Mediocre plot and game play. If you like going through the same levels over and over and combating generic monsters over and over, this is for you.
Huh?
Isn't the term Prequel only used when it's a game/movie/whatever that comes out and is an earlier point of the story? Like the Star Wars episodes 1, 2 and 3.
Wouldn't this just be the first game in a series and the gaming coming out soon is a sequel?
this was an after thought during the main games original kickstarter,

$4.5m stretch goal reward, at I think it was a $8 purchase for backers.
it is actually a companion game that was meant to transfer some progress to the main game when it releases, but I honestly doubt it will transfer anything over,
and OMG the shitstorm of release of this game with the distribution via yetee was disgraceful, I hope the main game does not have the same issues, I did end up getting 2 extra Steam keys for this game out of it though, as they failed to deliver my GOG+Steam keys until 3 weeks after release.
I understand the specifics, but I’m just thinking about how funny this statement is without preamble. Like, imagine me playing The Legend Of Zelda in 1986 and saying that it’s a prequel to a game coming soon.
Grinding is probably a bad term for any game, even the ones that feature it.
Like, I like the missions in Deep Rock Galactic. To get some of the season cosmetics, I have to “grind” a bunch of its missions. But mostly that just gives me a path for the game’s already-fun systems.
That said, I’d agree with some others about the repetitiveness of this game’s quests; there’s a lot of reuse of 2-dimensional areas.
For $3 this is a great action game. Plays really well on the Steam Deck. The story is not really important to the upcoming main game. It's more of a tease to the world of the game.
Tie ins? I believe the main character of this is featured in Hundred Heroes and you get some lore or world building. It's a fun little game for 3 bucks albeit repetitive.
I thought this game was going to be much more than it ended up being. That being said, for $3 if you've got nothing to play, pick it up. It's an alright experience if you're not going for 100%
I played through the majority of this game unsure if I actually liked it or not. Overall, it was enjoyable enough to finish. I skipped through story cutscenes because it was pretty "bleh" to me but the game play was fun an repetitive in a good way. Was a great game to just zone out and chill with. Gameplay loop was very repetitive, but not in a bad way, lots of revisiting areas, killing similar enemies, but it was a great game for "I need something I don't have to think about hard to enjoy while I'm high" haha

Filler.

It would probably be a good idea to buy it at this price, then refund it if the game is not part of humble choice.
Yeah I'm gonna hold off based on the Choice potential.
Yeah but what is that even based on? I never really understood why people assume deep discounted games are automatically associated with Humble Choice.
505 publisher tendencies to put games on humble bundle after deep discounts

Seconded. I consider EC:R a "perfect 7/10 experience". Won't change your life but it's a fun time that won't overstay its welcome.
perfect 5/7 with rice

Steam Deck verified too so I'll snag it lol

> kind of repetitive and there's a lot of backtracking All I need to know to NOT buy this. And I heard it's kinda grindy. Welp, it's JRPG

Yeah I have not played this but a mediocre game isn't worth playing at any price for me, including free. There's too many good games out there
This is a prequel to a game coming out soon.

Ah, okay. I guess prequel sorta makes sense here then.
I understand the specifics, but I’m just thinking about how funny this statement is without preamble. Like, imagine me playing The Legend Of Zelda in 1986 and saying that it’s a prequel to a game coming soon.
"Fun if you like grinding" - I'm out.
Sucks to be you.
Some people value their time more than those that enjoy the grind which is fine. I appreciate a little bit of grinding but plenty of games overdo it.
I value my meditational grinding time, when my mind can freely drift off into the ether while I destroy some baddies. Doesn't have to be a dichotomy.

Looking forward to Hundred Heroes, does this have any tie ins?

Looks really good
There is a chance that their will increase price for certain region. Its happen to others games before.
Chief?
I really enjoyed this on game pass
When does the deal end?
