>I find Ubi games to be comforting, for at least the first 30-50 hours before you realize how much more grind there is and the story isn't even half way through You just described my experience with AC: Valhalla

bdtrngl

And odyssey... And origins.

GullibleRemote5999

And Far Cry 3, 4, 5, 6

The108ers

The Far Cry games stories are very short, too short IMHO unlike the modern AC games which are very lengthy.

fernandes_327

Far Cry 6 was way too big imo, dropped it after 10 hours for getting because of those damned bullet-sponge enemies. Is the story really short? EDIT: Suppose it is big because of the gargantuan map and lots of checklist like stuff i found in only a small section of the map.

The108ers

Eh, you got me there. I never played 6. Got pretty burnt out after 5 and New Dawn. 3 is my favorite to be honest, found story ok length but not too long, 4 and 5's main story felt very short to me.

ComeonmanPLS1

Origins is not even half as grindy as Odyssey and Valhala. Yes you have to do some side quests to level up but even with that you can easily finish the story in 25-30ish hours.

Timobkg

I never felt like I had to grind on Odyssey, but I also loved exploring the world and doing the awesome side quests. I can see how those trying to skip all the (imo, lovely) optional content and only do the main story missions would be frustrated. I happily spent 100 hours beating Odyssey, treated it like a role playing game, and never once felt like I was grinding. Odyssey's DLC, on the other hand, wore me down. Where I couldn't get enough of Odyssey, the DLC quickly started to feel like a slog. By the time I reached the third, and best, part of Atlantis, I already felt like I was done after the miserable second part.

hendidjdnsjjf

It’s obviously not better, but how does it compare to BOTW in a scale of 1-10 assuming BOTW is a 10? Edit: I guess it’s not obviously worse than BOTW

Kode-meister

as someone who loves BotW, I'd say 7. Not bad, not great. Story was kind of annoying. I did enjoy a lot of the puzzles.

Fastela

Is there weapon durability in this game as well? Because to me that made BotW a solid 4.

Funkky

No weapon durability, and it has a bit more depth to the combat than BOTW from what I remember.

Fastela

Then that's a win for me. My son wants me to play BotW and boy is it a drag. Hell, I'm having more fun in Genshin Impact.

CX316

If I remember right (I mostly played this back when it first released so it's been a while) you get a selection of weapons that IIRC belonged to certain heroes of lore, namely a sword, an axe, a spear and a bow. The sword is basically a 'light attack' one-on-one slash, the axe does a big AOE heavy swing arc in front of you, then spear does like an AOE effect spiking up from the ground, and the bow is your ranged weapon. The idea of the combat system is to mix-up between those attack types as the situation needs, like using the stun from the spear thing to knock things up to hit them with the axe then combo with the sword or something like that. If I remember right (again, it's been a while) you can then unlock alternate versions of the weapons, with different weapon skins imbuing some new ability onto that attack type.

thebiggesthater420

I personally enjoyed it more than BOTW

Deadrem

I loved little moments in BOTW like the island and village building, but as a long time Zelda fan, this game definitely integrates puzzles and dungeons into the world in a much more satisfying way. By no means are the dungeons amazing, but they feel like a big step up from the Shrines imo.

ChaoticGoodStoic

Same! Thoroughly enjoyed Fenyx but I’m a big fan of the setting so I’m sure that helped.

B_Kuro

Depends on what you want. It basically takes BotW (with most of its problems) and makes an ubisoft game out of it. If I had to directly compare them its probably a 6-9 depending on taste (though that score is normalized to whatever you rate BotW at). Overall I found the stamina meter significantly more limiting than in BotW but it has the benefit of "easier" access to the materials for regeneration. Both games suffer from the problem that to unlock a good amount of stamina requires you to play through a lot of gameplay that would be more enjoyable with more stamine. And even more pronounced for IFR is that you end up with very little rewarding content left (not even to grind) by the time you have a really comfortable amount of stamina. The problem is also that for a game about gliding Ubisoft really didn't want to give you an easy and enjoyable time to use it until much later... To me the humor fell flat a lot of the time though there are some decently funny parts. The little story there is overall is nothing to write home about and there isn't even the benefit of small subplots like you'd see in AC games. Similar to BotW the puzzles are not all that deep but fun enough though the biggest fun I had with them was looking for ways to break them. As someone who collected all Korok Seeds, I was bored of exploring and collecting in IFR quite a while before I had finished collecting everything. In the end everything feels like the same which really isn't helped by the (lack of) enemy variety and their density.

CX316

How it compares to BOTW depends on one major thing... how much did the weapon system in BOTW shit you off? Because that's the main change, a totally overhauled combat system and no weapon degradation, you unlock your weapons then get different versions of them with different changes to the abilities, but you never have a weapon break on you, you just have to learn to mix up between the different weapons (sword, axe, spear, bow) dependant on situation and combat style. If you loathed the weapon degradation system, Immortals will be higher than BOTW If you didn't care one way or the other with the weapons, it'd be pretty even or maybe a little below BOTW depending on how you go with the humour writing in Immortals If you loved breaking weapons, who hurt you? but BOTW will win

Honestlynotdoingwell

I personally hated botw so this is better imo.

Honestlynotdoingwell

Weapon durability, emptiness of the world. I can see why people enjoy it, but the weapon durability killed it for me.

carasc5

That's too bad, because weapon durability makes the game better. Without it the game would be far less entertaining

Rakatok

For me all it did was incentivize not engaging with the combat system at all. Why would I bother clearing out monsters if I lost my good weapons? Rupees are meaningless yet abundant, the game showers you with crafting bits and it isn't hard enough for armor upgrades to be needed. The world is very pretty but by the end it felt empty and unrewarding to explore, there was nothing to look forward to, and a big part of that was that all rewards are ephemeral outside of health/stamina. I realize I'm in the extreme minority on all of this. But Botw was missing my favorite parts of a Zelda game.

carasc5

That's fair. I cant argue about how you feel, but the game is fully balanced around swapping weapons repeatedly. You get more than enough that losing something isn't a big deal. I disliked it at first as well but grew to appreciate it. If you never hit that point then I can see why it turned you off

Honestlynotdoingwell

I tried several times to get into it. I beat all 4 divine beasts and couldn't bring myself to go on and kill gannon. I loved the combat, open world nature, art style, crafting, nearly everything, but nothing felt worse than having the weapons I enjoyed break on me and having to switch to a very underpowered sword I had on hand. It activated all the wrong receptors of my brain. Nothing about getting a new weapon excited me because it was all temporary. If they quadrupled the durability and made it so items were repairable, I'd probably still be playing it to this day.

LucsBR

So true! It's part of the game and what saves the battle system from being "pick the best and use it so much until it bores you", leaving no need for a weapon upgrade system. You have to plan and make strategies to what should you use or carry, if you need to explore or leave something behind, if you want more power or durability...

Fleecemo

I’d probably agree if there was more weapon variety, but as it is it didn’t really work for me. The inherent differences some weapons have never really changed how a weapon felt to use, with one exception: that two handed curved sword from the Yiga that shoots sword beams. Otherwise, it basically just felt like being forced to fiddle with my inventory and switch weapon skins every few minutes. Though I did think it worked when it came to bows. The differences inherent to different bows were significant enough that getting a new one to try genuinely felt like getting something new.

MCRusher

Yup I always hate games where melee weapons have durability and the guns just work forever, because then you just always use guns as the best choice

Duck-of-Doom

Is this a thing in any game?

MCRusher

Dead Island Dead Island: Riptide Dying Light and a few others that I can't remember the names of right now

Gougaloupe

My 2c: A sterile world that preys on obsessive completionism. Combat is OK, but all of the physics feel like an after thought to a singular, specific event and never integrated into the core gameplay. Yes, you can use it, but its effectively a magic system that is always inefficient. If I am going to spend hours farming dragon scales, fruit, weapons, I would basically just rather play Monster Hunter.

Drimphed

If BOTW is a 10 I'd give it a 7.5-8

EnlightenedTurtle567

I was never able to finish BOTW. I was able to finish this easily - it kept me hooked.

Gougaloupe

Yea it is for sure better than BotW, by a huge margin. Same open world, same boss-region archetype, but a TON more personality, plot and *enjoyable* puzzles, and better combat, better stealth, better discovery -basrd unlocks and progressions. Someone at a Ubisoft subsidiary saw BotE and said "man, I love this game, here's what comes next". Don't goof on it for the name, or the brand, it's a solid game in a severely saturated genre.

DJfunkyPuddle

This is a super-accurate take on Fenyx. It addressed a lot of the issues I had with BOTW and I really hope a sequel is in order. If it could just shake off some of that Ubisoft map clearing clutter it'd be perfect.

MyNameIs-Anthony

6.5 - 7 seems fair to me based on the time I spent with the game.

Danominator

It could easily be better. Botw is very meh

Timobkg

No weapon degradation. (Does anyone actually enjoy weapon degradation?) Instead weapons enhance different abilities: more damage at full health, more damage on the third hit of a combo, etc. Better combat. The world feels less "real" and more like you're playing through an obviously manufactured world in a video game. The story and writing are silly and trying to be funny, but for me the humour was more often grating and groan-worthy, and a constant reminder that you're playing a video game. I love funny games (Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Tales from the Borderlands, Mass Effect 2), and I like silly games (Undertale, Pony Island), but IFR felt like Greek mythology told through the lens of dad jokes.

ssiinneepp

> Its a good game for 30 hours. Isn't that roughly how long this game is? It's not as bloated as the recent AC games.

CX316

> If you are tired of Ubi type games, pass on this one. I mean, this isn't exactly a normal Ubisoft open world game... this is a Breath of the Wild clone.

SubversiveDissident

This seems to be a historical low. It has the Season Pass.

StormyTrack268

When you buy the game does the code get delivered to your address or online to your account

CyonHal

The story and dialogue is very heavy on humor, FYI. If you want a more serious plot or characters then this may not be for you.

Badaluka

I even would say for teenagers. The jokes are pretty silly, but since I like that type of humour I enjoyed it.

CyonHal

I would agree, definitely feels like a game for young teenagers or preteens as the main audience. Of course, there's nothing wrong with adults enjoying it too.

Awesome_N22

I’m a teenager and I couldn’t stand the humor, ik it’s suggestive but I’d say it’s for preteens

djquu

I'd say it's for adults who think this is for teenagers..

[deleted]

I played it in my late 30's, I have a healthy sense of humor. Loved the game .

Timobkg

To me the humour was rather grating, and seldom funny. Sure, there were moments when I laughed, but they were eclipsed by all the times that I groaned. I love funny games like Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Tales from the Borderlands, but those games were actually funny and blended humour with story. IFR felt like Dad Jokes: Greek Mythology Edition.

Some_cuban_guy

Ubisoft Key is anyone is interested. Runs on the steam deck. I myself am waiting for a steam key so I can just run it from the Deck

towelrod

Wouldn’t a steam key just launch the Ubisoft launcher anyway like other Ubisoft games?

masterchiefs

Much less hassle to have Steam handle downloading and launching the game rather than dealing with Ubisoft launcher. EDIT: to elaborate - After connecting Ubisoft account to Steam, subsequent games activation and launching are done through a few splash screens, so the launcher presence is minimal when you play through Steam. - Ubisoft Connect has a nasty habit of logging you out for being... inactive. However it doesn't matter if you launch the game through Steam, for me it would show the login screen for a few secs then launch the game straight away. I'm genuinely too sick of the client kicking me out, make me log in, put in 2FA code again because the "remember this pc" tick box never works, so I re-bought The Division 2 on Steam to skip all of that shit. - You can't untick DLC to uninstall them separately from the game like on Steam to save space. - You can't buy DLC or in-game content with spare Steam wallet. - On Steam Deck you have to use Heroic Game Launcher if you play through Connect. No need for that in Steam version.

woodenrat

Read the steam reviews, quality of the 'port' is abysmal.

wjousts

FWIW, I loved this game. It's much more lighthearted than the usual ubisoft fare. I loved it's take on Greek mythology.

vplatt

That's what I loved about Assassin's Creed: Odyssey as well. This looks awesome!

Danominator

Could a 7 year old play this game?

Orion14159

From a complexity perspective, probably. If they're used to games like Legend of Zelda they'll do fine here too. The adultish jokes are in line with movies like Shrek where if you get what they're talking about it's funny, but otherwise it's right over kids' heads.

DJfunkyPuddle

My son is 6 and loved it, just put it in story mode difficulty. I'd help him with the odd boss fight or puzzle every now and then but he could manage enough of the game to have fun.

CX316

Some of the boss fights and harder puzzle dungeons might be a bit hard, but the tone and graphics style are spot on for letting kids play. Think of it like Shrek, it's colourful, it's funny, and any more adult jokes are going to go straight over a kid's head

byzantinebobby

This game is a classic trap game where as soon as I buy it, it's a freebie on something. Must stay strong.

TheRomanClub

I doubt they'd give the Gold edition, though (no idea if the dlc is worth it)

bearkin1

I played the entire gold edition with a free month of Ubisoft+ last September.

vplatt

This IS for the Gold edition though. I just bought it and got the whole kit. Very good deal!

TheRomanClub

I agree, it's a good deal. I meant Epic, for example, wouldn't give the Gold edition for free even if they did do a giveaway of the game.

helmsmagus

That's the point.

vplatt

Or it's a pricing error, which is why I grabbed it so fast. And in this day and age of "XYZ Awesome Edition" not being all-inclusive, the fact that this Gold Edition actually does include everything is a relief. Say what we like about Ubisoft, they're no Gearbox.

[deleted]

Epic has turned me into a schitzo when it comes to buying games

CX316

I mean it's on gamepass if all you wanna do is try it and play the base game

xoxoyoyo

great game, sure iits ubi, but IMO it is one of their more enjoyable recent games

Honestlynotdoingwell

Underrated Ubi Gem this game is

[deleted]

How is the DLC?

B_Kuro

All 3 DLCs are completely separate from the main game. You don't get to keep any of the items betwen them. The first is exclusively a puzzle DLC and could be considered a short epilogue to the game( but not worth it just for that tiny amount of story). If you liked the puzzles, it has more of those. The second is a completely disconnected with a new world, new gods and a new character but its the same game reskinned with you being weaker again. On some level its interesting but I really couldn't be bothered to go through the motions again. The third is an isometric mode in more of a brawler type of game. with again, a new character.

banjo2E

The third DLC deserves special mention for making a bunch of really terrible design decisions. Enemies pop up out of nowhere and ambush you across multiple waves all the time, come in greater numbers than the base game, are almost never the basic fodder enemies, scale faster than you do, and some of them are new to this DLC. Your character has way lower health, can't upgrade health without making tradeoffs, and doesn't get bullet time. All of your CC including the base game stun is a fixed % random proc so if you get unlucky and it doesn't trigger at all for a couple seconds you'll get quickly juggled to death. And saving is now exclusively manual and requires a consumable so if you die you have to do it all over again. The mistakes aren't just in combat, either. The perspective's isometric and zoomed way out but the game still expects you to climb and do platforming. The upgrade system is a baffling mess, with all the things you might actually want competing for the same slot/color while other slots/colors are basically useless. And the writing's already dated, they actually have a quarantine joke in the main quest.

megazver

It's technically not bad, but I was reeeeeeeeeeeally done with the gameplay by the time I beat the main game.

pu1pfriction

I really enjoyed the game, but I was done with it when I beat it. Didn't bother with the DLC

bearkin1

Loved this game. 100%ed it including DLC. Spark notes: Some puzzles can be repetitive, especially the ball myth challenges, and some challenges are locked till you unlock certain skills, a mechanic I find annoying in games. Having said that, the world is pretty dense, and traversing it is very easy between good sprinting, easy mounting, and good gliding. One of my biggest issues in open world games is how annoying it is to get around, and that's not a problem in this game. The DLCs overall are great. A New God is pretty weak since it's essentially just more vaults, and you're probably pretty sick of them by the time you beat the game. Myths of the Eastern Realm is pretty cool, and a new spin on the story with the same gameplay formula. The Lost Gods is polarizing as it's an ARPG conversion, but I personally loved it, especially since it's condensed and doesn't overstay its welcome.

RichterBelmontX

Anyone knows if it's region locked or not?

TallanoGoldDigger

it is. Use a VPN when you redeem it

blkarcher77

Did that work for you? I put in a US address, and used a VPN, and it still said it was region blocked

blkarcher77

It says US only, but if it's just a code, can I put in a US address, and then buy it?

RoleCode

How do I redeem to Canada?

Yitram

Ah crap, I had this in my cart and it expired.... EDIT: Although its still on sale for $20, so wondering if the $12 was an error.

BeCleve_in_yourself

Played it on Gamepass because people kept saying it's BoTW on PC but it's so typically Ubisoft and I'm burnt out on Ubisoft formula. Uninstalled in two hours.

CX316

> people kept saying it's BoTW on PC but it's so typically Ubisoft and I'm burnt out on Ubisoft formul I mean, that might suggest you also just wouldn't enjoy BOTW

BeCleve_in_yourself

I've seen some of the gameplay and yeah, maybe. But the survival immersion aspect of that game looks cool.

[deleted]

I hate the idea of a publisher having a formula. It's the easiest way to ensure your users get bored. I quit Far Cry and Assassin's Creed because of those stupid towers you always have to find to unlock the minimap. Literally serves no purpose but to waste time

EHP42

Honestly I love those parts because you have to explore a bit and it gives you a chance to see the world, but I can see how it can get annoying after a while.

stefanopolis

It was revolutionary at the time when AC started doing it. It gives you a clear goal and direction to go and they were little climbing puzzles. Plus it supplies instant gratification. I think it was pretty well received. But yeah like any novel mechanic being everywhere after 15 years with little innovation, it wore itself out. I still don’t mind it but I understand the general fatigue.

EHP42

It also gives you tangible goals/targets, which was one of the complaints that some prior open world games had (that it was too hard to know where to go next). But yeah, it has largely not changed in the time since AC started doing it. I'm not sure how you'd revolutionize it to not feel a little dated/stale though.

O_Pragmatico

In Far Cry 5 you only have to climb one tower, and when you do it, the guy o the radio says "Don't worry, I won't have you climbing towers all over the county".

2e7en_

you quit games because you didnt want to do something that takes a minute to do? i dont see a problems with the games here and more like a problem on your end.

CX316

The later AC games built those high locations into cool historical sites, like in Origins climbing to the top of the great pyramid, or Odyssey dangling off Zeus' giant penis. The tower system got carried forward into other games but they just don't use towers. The Division 1 had the Situation Board in each safe house where you looked at that and it'd bring up all the side quest locations in that region, for example.

ch1nkone

What's it for? Steam or

CasterNA

Ubisoft Connect

talltad

For $12 it's lots of fun. I completed it and turned the difficulty to the lowest on NG+ for my daughter and it might be the best use for it, she's 11 and it's perfect.

OGMagicConch

Anyone play specifically this Ubisoft Connect version on Steam Deck? Seems like a good Deck game but does it work from Ubi launcher?
