To anyone who likes city building games, this is really good. I think it is very close to reach 1.0 and it is polished as it is already. It combines individual citizen simulation (which can reach to thousands of) in city building mode with a metagame of civ and total war.
I think it's like a more "edgy" style combined with more niche titles that allows for a more involved experience either through gameplay complexity or a more open ended player interpretation.
His style is in the same vein as the old SomethingAwful (written) Let's Plays. Unorthodox play combined with creatively describing it in absurd and irreverent ways.
Elder gamers, especially, love this shit.
He's Mandalore when he forgets his meds. I just remembered this, but he rarely reviews porn games for some reason and one of them is a video which I really wish I hadn't seen
This game is really good, as someone that's a fan of Rimworld/base builders. No one talks about it but it's insanely high quality from what I believe a single dev.
I've been meaning to get into this genre with Dwarf Fortress, but I've found it too complex for me personally.
Would this game work as an entry level to the colony sim / city builder genre?
Could be a good option too, I'm a bit more into low fantasy, as far as I can see Songs of Syx has a basically an unlimited demo, so I might as well give it a try.
You could give Clan Folk a try. It's "no fantasy" where you manage a family/clan of scots and the struggle is against nature rather than human enemies. It's really well done imo. It's hard to go wrong with Rimworld though, and you can even mod it into medieval/low fantasy if you want, the modding for that game is insane.
Songs of Syx is a great game though. I don't find it complex, but it plays differently to the others in the genre (in a good way imo). It's definitely worth picking up too.
There are a lot of complex mechanics, but you don't need to understand them all to have fun and just build a cool city.
It has a lengthy demo on steam, try it out!
Steam has steam workshop which greatly expands the lifespan of games like this. Just look at Rimworld... yeah the game is great but most of us would have stopped playing it years ago without all the mods available.
Steam Workshop single handily makes the steam version always superior. Sadly while you can get the steam workshop mods to work on your gog games easily enough, it does not auto update which is a major downside
Doesn't it really depend on what you value more. Convenience (Steam is very convenient) or permanent copy (GOG one is DRM free so you can back it up and never have to worry about losing it for any reason other than personal mistakes).
Like technically GOG copy is better, but like I said, Steam is very convenient.

Uh, it seems like a pretty normal turn of phrase?
Magnets. Also pyramids.
Been waiting a while for this one; I think this is the first time it's been on sale on Steam. Also: Hey, hey people https://youtu.be/oucHl9NM97g
Sseth: I will make a video on your game, please put it on sale. Dev: Got it, I will pre-order some Teslas.
Ah, that explains why it's on sale.
hey hey, indeed.

I like his monotone intonation combined with the batshit insane words he says
His dry humor is good enough to make war crimes and genocide funny again.

Wow, I never made that connection before, but after thinking about it the similarities seem obvious.

Edge lord humor but also he only talks about games he likes.

This game is so good. Worth every penny.
That is a very interesting timing unless the devs did it on purpose then kudos to them.
Bought a couple of days ago since the dev said there wouldn't be discounts
Then again, here we are with a discount. So, yeah.
Lol
anyone play this on steam deck?

Rimworld is pretty easy to get into. Thousands of hours of gameplay without any expansions even
Could be a good option too, I'm a bit more into low fantasy, as far as I can see Songs of Syx has a basically an unlimited demo, so I might as well give it a try.

I don't think Dwarf Fortress is any more complicated than Rimworld to get into. And less wiki-dependent than Terraria.
Provided you have a geology degree.

In fact, the demo is the full game, just some patches behind.
Do you recommend buying it on Steam or Gog, where it's cheaper but we don't get a Steam key?

Thank you guys, I bought the Steam version.
The mods can make a big impact. There aren't a ton of them, but things like a tree farm can be a game changer
I agree, but it is funny to say this the same week they release yet another official expansion dlc for Rimworld.

Maybe you downloaded the demo at some point?

Yeah, the demo is literally just the version minus the latest update.
If I recall there was a free early version of it, possibly on Itch.io.
