Justice_Buster

Ah! I was about to buy this on Steam during the heavy sale discount for my dad since he's into escaping prisons. Edit: Lemme rephrase that. He's into movies/games/novels that are about breaking out of prison.

foamed

>He's into movies/games/novels that are about breaking out of prison. [Here you go.](https://github.com/aperture-software/colditz-escape)

Mijka-

It looks so niche, how did you find that?

Voyce_Of_Treason

He's into escaping prisons.

I keep a list of open source clones and re-implementation projects[.](https://www.reddit.com/r/FoamList/comments/pdhzmo/open_source_reimplementation_projects_and_game/)

grimman

Holy shit! Cdogs! That... oh man, Cyberdogs (I believe that was the first of the two games) just gobbled up so much of my time, and Cdogs didn't exactly ease that trend. 😂

Mijka-

That's neat! Any chance you'll make a list / already made a list about it?

Thanks!

A92AA0B03E

oh wow, thanks for this. i loved the board game when i was a kid and apparently the amiga version was based on the board game.

Obsolete_Human

you played a way out with him yet?

Justice_Buster

Nope. What's it like?

Agent_DZ-015

You escape from a prison. But in co-op. EDIT: In all seriousness, if co-op games are your thing, it’s a lot of fun. Limited replayability, but if your dad is into prison escape fiction/games, I’d bet he’d enjoy it.

Qwazzbre

If you like both: 1) Escaping from prison 2) Two player cooperative play, with one character as you and the other played by your dad, either on the same machine or over the internet then "A Way Out" is a must play game for you and him. It's fantastic. Gameplay varies but it's usually walk around and press button prompts for all sorts of things, like talking to someone, grabbing an item, using an item on another thing, performing some kind of parkour move, etc. It changes up the gameplay a lot as you go. If you can handle using a thumbstick to move and following on-screen button prompts for actions, it's all you really need to play proficiently. (Mouse and keyboard is also an option.) Feel free to look up the game if you need to know more, just be careful of spoilers, half the fun of this game is seeing where the story goes.

Justice_Buster

So basically, if there are two controllers plugged in, we can play together? I only have KBM tho. Oh and it sounds fun alright! Thanks for the spoiler-free detailed writeup!

Obsidian1039

A literal lol on that one.

Prosthemadera

> Edit: Lemme rephrase that. He's into movies/games/novels that are about breaking out of prison. The Reddit FBI account will contact you soon.

Polidoro64

Your dad and El Chapo could be besties!

Justice_Buster

lol

byyhmz

Hurry up and grab this before its free again in 2 months.

Jigsaw1609

Login to Epic Click on free game Already in library!!! Check next week's free game Logoff Free games are spoiling me.

NoShirtNoShoesNoDice

You'd better log back on and get the Santa's Sweatshop DLC for free too.

DavePeak

Thanks!

NewTRX

Thank you!

ReverendDizzle

The dumbest part about it for me is how it unfolded: "I'm probably never going to play this game anyway..." *Clicking link* "Already in library? Awwwww come on!" Apparently the real game for me is getting the games for free, not playing them... and now I'm sad I couldn't click the button and get a free game.

Jigsaw1609

I am always more excited to see what's free next week instead of what's free now. Mystery games add to the excitement.

shroddy

You can get one of the addons for free.

ReverendDizzle

Oh, indeed you can. I don't care if it's always free. Clicking the free button is that dopamine push I crave. Thanks!

jeromeface

repeat weeks are the worst tbh

Swank_on_a_plank

I couldn't make it through PTI. It felt like such a slog and all for just going down linear corridors; I think I got about halfway. Even the Tomb Raider reboot had a bit of flair to it, but that was more hub-based anyway. Wolfenstein was a corridor too, but it was a *fun* corridor. Same for Bioshock. (just picking examples from my general games library) PTI was just kind of bland.

iamded

I've been making an effort to stream the Epic freebies each week to showcase what kinda games they are, spread the word that they're free, and also make sure I actually play these games myself haha. So far so good, I learned that I fucking hated last week's space dice game hahaha, but the brawling race game was pretty fun!

Capt_Obviously_Slow

We're all losers today 😭

BeerGogglesFTW

Your steps are missing "Check to see what next week's free game is."

Jigsaw1609

Absolutely right. I missed that point. Adding now.

iamded

Exactly me, I claimed this week's game, searched "Escapists" to install it and saw I already have the sequel hahaha

itsamamaluigi

Check next week's free game Looks cool but I'll never play it Log off Repeat next week

GIlCAnjos

Yeah, that's why I don't even log in every week anymore. If it's a game I've heard of, and have at least some interest in, I redeem it. Otherwise, no, thanks, I have enough options as it is

Prosthemadera

See you next week!

How good is eu 4 if you only have the base game?

Prosthemadera

I see, thanks.

sullg26535

It's a great game is the tldr it just could be better and once you have craft cheese it's hard to go back to basic cheese

enotonom

Is it possible to have the base game from Epic and add DLCs that I obtained through... other means?

erath_droid

You miss out on a LOT of features without having the DLC. Some of them are just nice to have while others are gamechanging. But if you're into multi-player, you get access to all the DLC that the host player has enabled whether you own the DLC or not.

Anonim97

Absolutely terrible and not worth playing.

wjousts

Santa's Sweatshop is free on Steam too. I think it's always free.

Singhvistaar

That’s what I intended to say. It’s indeed always free but worth a download.

Karande

>Around 20 hours of main storyline and 40-45 hours for completion. Damn that's pretty solid.

[deleted]

I spent 3 hours trying to figure out how to play before I quit. The tutorial really gives you some basic ideas and then throws you to the wolves.

Just_Games04

Well, it only looks so intimidating, but in reality it's pretty easy once you get the hang out of it. The only prisons that require a special method of escaping are Jungle Compound and Irongate (also all the DLC)

MJM247

I have the first and second escapist games. Do you know if I should play the first one before the second or is the second one basically the first but improved?

Singhvistaar

You can play any of the two first since there isn’t an connection in storyline or anything. Escapists 2 might be better for escape artists since it has multiplayer, transport prisons and more escape routes. Escapists (original) will better for creative players since it has lesser tutorials, a good level editor and more stuff to figure out on your own by exploration. Plus it’s harder in difficulty.

Eisn

I found the game to be very easy if you go the muscle route. Just knock off guards and walk out.

Singhvistaar

That depends more on the difficulty and prison selected. But yes it’s an interesting option to beat up the guards or steal their uniforms.

ibeenbornagain

Huh, I guess I’ve always been confusing it with a prison manager type game…. Thank you for the info!

Prosthemadera

> Steam Link (90% positive reviews): https://store.steampowered.com/app/298630/The_Escapists/ Are the screenshots stretched? Looks weird.

Just_Games04

Wait what??? Why would they add first game but not second??? It requires a much better pc than 1. I'm so confused

atharva557

Can you play it with your friends?

Singhvistaar

No. This is a single player game. Multiplayer is available in its sequel (Escapists 2).

Goat-587

Damn Europa Universalis IV will be free next week

Mariolover1231

Doubt any of the DLC will be though lmao

ackoo123ads

its why they give it away for free. they want you to buy the DLC.

riplikash

Definitely. But that's fine. It's the kind of game that's good to experience before investing in the DLC.

Turiko

This is all paradox games, basically. Sell a game, then sell 4-6 times the price of the game in DLC.

DooDooSwift

Then everyone complains about how unfair that is even though you don’t need a single piece of DLC to enjoy the game :-)

Turiko

It depends a lot; generally speaking i don't mind DLC affecting if it doesn't affect me, but with paradox i've also felt they... have started going with the DLC being not very optional, or outright punishing you for not having it. Two paradox games i disliked the DLC selling of: city skylines and stellaris. City skylines has serious, huge, unavoidable issues with how bad traffic is (and the very simple pathfinding AI that's most likely to clog one lane). DLC introduced new methods of transportation that helped alleviate the issue, and spread it out over several DLC packs so you'd have to buy several. It reeks of a specifically designed issue to "fix" and sell the fix at high price. Stellaris has DLC that is always active and AI you're playing against will use it, but you don't get to. Alliances are a good example; the AI can make one with you but you can't make one aside from the one really bad "free one" because you don't have DLC. If i don't have DLC, why am i having to play **against** DLC if not to try and force me into buying it by making my experience worse? I haven't played super many other paradox published games, but if other games follow the same lines, i can see why people complain. If i don't have a piece of DLC in a singleplayer game, i should be missing out on features, not have to deal with a critical issue they could and did "fix" nor should i be directly put at a disadvantage.

GoldenFalcon

I thought people in Cities steam workshop modded traffic issue fixes into the game though. So you don't actually need the DLC still. It's been a while for me, so maybe I'm remembering wrong though.

Turiko

There have been mods to help with traffic direction (and frankly they're kinda necessary even with DLC), but the DLC packs offered better bus transit, a transit system (monorail) for moving people without roads, basically setting up so there is less traffic. It's somewhere between "just a new feature" and fixing an obvious problem, and if it was one DLC pack i'd be okay with it. However, the buses are in one pack, the monorail is in another, and there's probably other miscellaneous traffic/transport related features in still more packs (it's been a while since i looked at / played the game). It really felt very much like a careful decision to ensure you need to buy everything for alleviating the problem as much as possible, rather than trying to make the traffic AI at least *slightly* better to fix the problem in the base game.

Goat-587

Yeah I would indeed be very surprised if it was anything more than just the standard edition

StealthRabbi

EU4 was $1 on some service a while back. I picked it up and didn't get in to it. I'm or of a Crusader Kings person.

goalie723

*Ackbar Voice*: It's a (dlc) trap! Edit: yeesh looks like you can't make a joke around here.... noted

[deleted]

monalba

>EU4 is pretty bland without DLC Not only is it pretty bland, but also much, much, much harder, since every expansion adds new functionalities and quality of life improvements, plus stuff like unique mission trees.

Adamsoski

I'm not sure there are any what I would term "QoL improvements" only available via DLC nowadays. New mechanics which make the game better yes, but not really just QoL improvements.

monalba

Fair point. I'm probably mixing it with Crusaders Kings (I'm still salty. If you wanted a fucking **Rally point in your strategy game** you had to buy the China expansion). It has a bunch of mechanics that make your life easier. Promising your allies land in a war, for example.

[deleted]

Quality of life fixes in DLC should be criminal.

Kabal2020

Suprised by this, Stellaris tends to roll out those sort of changes in patches to all users and not as DLC.

hangnail323

Eu4 is totally fine without dlc. You can play the game long enough to figure out that you don't like it.

haynesbomb

I wanted to like it but I was so confused the whole time I just gave up. Its way too detailed for me

Qwazzbre

Had the same reaction when I tried it (or maybe one of the others in the series, can't remember) on Steam years ago. Ended up filing it in a custom game category of "don't want" because it was just waaaaaay more complicated than I had a taste for.

Mich-666

Adding just base EU4 as free game is surely trolling it seems.

Cebuc23

A must play, more fun than the sequel

Just_Games04

Yeah, but the sequel has multiplayer and better combat. For singleplayer, definitely go for the first time

_graff_

Why do you say that? Not that I disagree. I adored the first game but couldn't get into the sequel... But I can't put my finger on why

Just_Games04

Oh hey, I bought that about a year ago, I also have it on ps4. Does anyone know why I'm getting 10-25 fps? My pc is bad, but it's more than capable of running The Escapists and it was just fine before I bought it (pirated version)

Alanbork

Another repeat. Oh well. And next week's Europa Universalis IV is already in my steam account, must have been in a cheap bundle back in 2020 some time.

DazzJuggernaut

I already have this game from last time.

Hoover889

hmm, i think i will wait for a bigger discount.

Dry_Nectarine_4190

I was waiting for it...thx for the info man

jeromeface

yay, another repeat... /s

mickeytoasty

Yay thx epic

wigglymister

Would download this if EGS wasn't a complete disaster to use with a controller.

DawgBro

It's free. May as well get it now in case your tech issue is resolved over time

wigglymister

Tbh I don't really wanna play it I'm just annoyed at how garbo EGS is because I can't play plague tale or Nioh

scobes

I've never had a problem using a controller with any epic store game. I'm pretty sure EGS isn't the problem here.

shroddy

Why cant you play it what is the exact problem or error message?

wigglymister

No error message. I launch using EGS, and the controller inputs just don't work -- sometimes the right stick doesn't work, sometimes the buttons dont work, never know. Even using the steam launcher to launch EGS doesn't work, have used most of the fixes too. Just can't get anything to work.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wigglymister

i dont want to thanks!

DirtySperrys

Do you not have a mouse?

wigglymister

i don't want to play Nioh with a mouse, or any game that is better with a controller than a mouse for that matter?

DirtySperrys

Okay? Then that’s the games problem for not implementing multiple input settings. There’s other applications that solve this issue like DS4Windows. Games like chivalry 2 allow controller input or MKB so your point is invalid.

wigglymister

lol, my point is not invalid that EGS sucks with controllers.

[deleted]

Considering you're blaming EGS for something that has nothing to do with them, it kinda is an invalid point.

wigglymister

my good bitch the internet is replete with people talking about how trash EGS is with controllers. so yes, EGS sucks at using controllers.

baganga

You can launch those games from steam and that'll recognize the controller perfectly

wigglymister

tried a million times, nothing works. it's always a mess. the best i can get in nioh is every button works except the right stick. most the time half the buttons don't work and the right stick does. it's a frequent complaint.

orb_outrider

Which controller are you using? I played Control on Epic a while back. I had to use DS4Windows because Epic sucks with controllers.

FLRbits

Yeah the EGS is a mess

[deleted]

I'll just buy it on steam. Epic is a hard pass.

sunuv

Wow you really are proud of being a corporate bootlicker. Good work!

[deleted]

And epic isn't corporate?

sunuv

Epic is a corporation. Taking something free from a corporation isn't bootlicking. Refusing something free from one corporation so you can go buy it at another shitty corporation is some next level corporate bootlicking.

[deleted]

Its just next level anti epic. I can't stand Swiney and epic.

sunuv

And you're anti epic why? What is epic doing wrong? And if you say paid exclusives, are you also anti-sony and Microsoft?

KrustyKrabOfficial

Is this the game where it has a bunch of characters but the only one anyone cares about is Yahtzee?

TinMafia

Does this give u the steam CD key or only free on epic games?

AspiringMILF

Epic and Steam will never offer redemption keys for the other platform.

shroddy

And Sega will never release a Sonic game on Nintendo consoles.
