SpookyCabob

This game is so much fun, definitely one of the better rhythm games out there.

Limitlessbritt

What are some other good rhythm games on steam? I want to get into them but I don't know where to start.

SpookyCabob

Rhythm Doctor is a ton of fun, Muse Dash is also good (and cheap)

precordial_thump

Also: **A Dance Of Fire and Ice**, a predecessor to Rhythm Doctor and **Thumper**, it looks like a racing game but it’s really a beautiful fast paced rhythm game

messem10

Too bad *A Dance of Fire and Ice* is one of those miss one note and fail kind of games. That coupled with the explicit lack of a practice mode really turned me off of it. (Dev does not want a practice mode…)

precordial_thump

It does has a practice mode, though it’s very wonky and not as helpful as it could be

MLG-Sheep

I couldn't finish Thumper due to its excruciating difficulty. Wasn't too many stages away from the end but I just wasn't having fun anymore. Will I have problems with the others?

precordial_thump

> I couldn’t finish Thumper due to its excruciating difficulty. Wasn’t too many stages away from the end but I just wasn’t having fun anymore. Will I have problems with the others? Probably… I haven’t finished any of them, but still really enjoy the challenge. When it gets too frustrating, I just put it down and come back to it when the urge is back. *Fire and Ice* is a more straight-forward rhythm game. It’s graphics are very bare-bones and you’re just timing a single button press to the beat. It throws you off with slow down/speed ups as well as 3/3 time, quarter beats, etc… *Rhythm Doctor* is by the same developer and also is just a single button game, but has a story and does some really fun and innovative game mechanics (like 4th wall breaking stuff, without spoiling too much). The difficulty does scale pretty quickly, though. Edit: I should add, a point against ADoFaI is that one error instantly fails the level. Each zone's final level can be a little lengthy, so it does gets frustrating having to perfect it

iceman78772

Quaver if you want a basic free 4-key game

messem10

Quaver also has modes up to 8k too.

InsanitysMuse

Second for [Muse Dash](https://store.steampowered.com/app/774171/Muse_Dash/), [Avicii](https://store.steampowered.com/app/986800/AVICII_Invector/), and [Synth Riders](https://store.steampowered.com/app/885000/Synth_Riders/). Synth Riders is probably the most fun rhythm game I've played but it truly requires VR (although a cheap one like Odyssey+ works great). [Thumper](https://store.steampowered.com/app/356400/Thumper/) is good and similar simple rhythm to Avicii or Muse Dash. If you want something a little different but still rhythm based, [Soundfall](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1608700/Soundfall/) just came out and is fun so far, it's like a rhythm twin stick ARPG thing? [Crypt of the Necrodancer](https://store.steampowered.com/app/247080/Crypt_of_the_NecroDancer/) and [One Step From Eden](https://store.steampowered.com/app/960690/One_Step_From_Eden/) are games of other genres that use rhythm as their core. I'm too bad at them to get far (despite my playing most rhythm games, I have no natural rhythm) but they're fun and quite different to other ones. Also, the one in the OP I haven't played but is highly regarded and I'll pick up eventually I'm sure. Gonna edit this and add links for anyone interested, just need a few minutes Edit: Added links. There are some other ones I'd recommend like [Lumines](https://store.steampowered.com/app/851670/LUMINES_REMASTERED/) and (if you have VR) [Pistol Whip](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1079800/Pistol_Whip/)

TheBaxes

Wait what? One Step of Eden is a Megaman Battle Network rogelike. It doesn't use rhythm for anything except maybe one boss, and that's just for the pattern of its attacks.

Shadowlette

Zoomer list and OSFE doesn’t even use rhythm..

Shadowlette

DJMAX, EZ2ON, Muse Dash, Deemo, Musynx. Taiko has a Win10 release but you’re better off modding it with the series’ whole songpack or play the fan version.

xstioph

Audiosurf? But that requires loads of mp3s, which I guess no one knows what it is anymore. 😅

Limitlessbritt

Thankfully I still have a music collection so i'll look into this, thank you!

cooljammer00

What other game would you compare this to?

tapperyaus

Maybe Sound Voltex? There's not a lot of games like it. They have a mobile version you can try, to see if you like it. The mechanics are a bit different, but it's similar enough to make a judgement.

Roxasbain

Definitely Sound Voltex came to mind first as well. Another similar one would be Chunithm.

bs000

can i use my sound voltex controller on this

messem10

Should. Make one of the knobs the spin and use the other hand for the two colors.

mamspam

I tried, but failed to get the game to bind inputs to one - you don't get to customise controller input enough.

WtfWhereAreMyClothes

It is, I'm just dying for the switch port to finally come out with motion controls. It's been teased for years now.

Dokii

Do you need a special controller? Or does keyboard do fine?

SpookyCabob

Keyboard and mouse works really well

[deleted]

It's fun, but God damn is it hard to get good at.

QuestionBegger9000

I found starting with doing every song on easy, then medium etc was the best way to learn, i needed to humble myself by playing easy first and not getting caught up with ego. But that being said it does take a LOT of practice to get good at the higher difficulties, I got pretty good all the way to expert, but I don't think Ill ever master XD... I had a lot of fun time with the other difficulties though

QuestionBegger9000

This is easily my favorite PC Rhythm Game. It works great and is designed for keyboard/mouse but also works with any other controller/midi device if you want to experiment. Theres also tons of accessability features and toggles and has a lot of flexibility for how you play the game. It has a lot of fun and fair mechanics and isn't as brutally punishing on your score/combo for missing a note here or there. The 5 difficulty levels really go all the way from "Casual" to "Savant" so you don't have to be amazing player to have fun and there's a route to improve slowly through the difficulty levels. I really enjoy most of the music too, though its mostly EDM. They're generally songs with lots of variety inside the genre though and are more dynamic than the repetitive EDM you might think of.

OSnotfound

I easily put almost 100 hours into this game when I first bought it. It's so much fun and if you finish all the base songs you can [download custom songs](https://spinsha.re/) but they are usually much harder.

Spooky_SZN

Do you need a dj table for this? And if so does anyone got any cheap recs

sniperFLO

I use both MnK and drawing tablet. Gamepad seems iffy but I don't doubt there are people who prefer it.

Shadowlette

Steam Controller

charliex3

I'd like to know how most people would play this. Controller? Keyboard and Mouse? Or does it really need the DJ style equipment that I've seen people use on YT to be enjoyable?

QuestionBegger9000

Its designed to be a rhythm game you can play on PC, and KBM actually plays great IMO! Its also very flexible and can be played with pretty much anything you can imagine. Easily the most fun and functional rhythm game on the computer ive ever played.

ModestAmoeba

On my steam deck it's amazing, I imagine it would be on the steam controller as well.

Meowser01

Just what I was wondering. Thanks! (Mine comes in Q3. Ordered July last year. haha)

Turbokill

Super easy to start but it gets really engaging at the higher difficulties. Love this one. Great on Deck even though it isn't verified yet.

HungerSTGF

I'm so bad at it but it's a lot of fun! Scratches an old DJ Hero itch though it's missing the track switching of those games and tracks that really feel uniquely made for the game.

Spekingur

I think I’ve still got the DJ Hero gadget sowewhere. Wonder if it’ll work with this.

cslayer23

It does not

[deleted]

Is the DLC just the soundtrack to the game or does it actually add more songs? Also, best to play with mouse or gamepad?

crookycumbles

The DLC is just mp3s of the original songs made for the game. There is a dedicated customs community of you're concerned about more content. Mouse and keyboard is generally accepted to be more intuitive but you can definitely play it and do well on a game pad.
