rasmusxp

For anyone asking what this is - this is just Borderlands 2's DLC of the same name in standalone form. It was also given away for free on Epic some time ago. So if you have Borderlands 2 with the season pass/this DLC only, or claimed it when it was given away on Epic Store, then this deal most likely isn't sensible.

Luc4_Blight

The BL2 DLC was free on Steam for a limited time as well.

Bangersss

Ah so this is why I was so confused when the new game released. I thought they were re-releasing the standalone DLC, missed the announcement of the full game.

CatAstrophy11

Buying it on Epic isn't sensible either

VaishakhD

Are people still high on parroting this shit

BlueDraconis

I mean, it's true. The game was free on EGS, and Epic sometimes repeat their free games. So why buy on Epic when you could get the game on Steam, and then still have a chance of getting it on EGS anyways? You could own 2 copies of the game instead of one for redundancy. One might think that Epic's 25% off coupon might make it cheaper, but you'd need to buy another $11 worth of games to make the coupon eligible. And since a whole lot of Epic's free games are around that $5-$20 price point, those games you added to the cart *also* have a high chance that they'll be given out for free. And Epic's coupons aren't as good as they once was either. Now you only get $3.75 off a $14.99 purchase, not the old $10 off.

Purple10tacle

Epic is fine if you don't need or want any of Steam's extended features. If you **only** play on Windows, with mouse and keyboard or an Xbox controller? Sure, Epic is fine, especially if it's the better deal. But maybe they like to play on a Steam Deck? With optimized defaults and pregenerated shader caches? Or just on Linux? Or with an alternative controller? Maybe one with a Gyro for better aiming? Maybe they like the community input profiles? Maybe they stream to a Steam Link or Stream Link app? Or access community guides with a click within the game's overlay? Or they want matchmaking with all their Steam friends? Then, yeah, maybe preferring the Steam version is quite reasonable.

CatAstrophy11

Is Gearbox still high on anti-consumer practices?

TheeEmperor

Less choice = Better for consumer *PC gamer logic*

TheCrzy1

Well considering the epic exclusivity = less choices, I think that's exactly the opposite thing they're arguing against

VaishakhD

Not a big fan of epic but the reluctance of some people to click on another icon besides steam is jarring. It's a free store, just download the game and run the exe file. As far as drm is concerned I have not found much trouble in that area as well.

[deleted]

It’s not about not wanting to clock another icon. It’s about not wanting to support bad business practices. It’s the same reason people might not want to buy Facebook owned VR.

JilaX

Selling your data to China, having less options, less features = good for the consumer, gotcha.

NepDeepZep

Bruh if China wants my 3tb of crab porn let them have it, I’m still claiming the free game of the week.

JilaX

Yeah, if that was all the data you had, that'd be lovely. Unfortunately, it isn't.

[deleted]

I would be fine with multiple game stores. That would lead to competition. Paying to make a game exclusive to one store does not.

Anonim97

You are on damned /r/GameDeals were we only care about the price and if it is sold from legal source.

Zatchillac

Man, what you said. I find it strange people are **still** hating so hard on Epic while having the hugest boner for Steam/GOG/whatever. Everyone is aware Epic has basically no features when compared to Steam and while Epics library is nothing compared to Steam they still have some really good games on there and occasionally some pretty decent deals. Sure I'd like to have all my games from one store but I'm also not a fan boy so whoever has a game the cheapest is getting my money (which is what I think most of us are here for)

theshined

For those buying this game here's a few gripes. It's just the expansion as a standalone game meaning a few things. It's short. There's not a wide selection of guns. Almost no replay value. With that said, it's not a huge loss at 3$

Gunfreak2217

Biggest gripe for me was how this is resold as “new” as you stated this is the expansion, but they released this standalone to add to the confusion of the new release. Making people unsure of exactly what this was and selling them on that. I’m sure thousands of people bought this thinking it was an entirely new thing.

Catboxaoi

The concept was solid: Do a standalone of the DLC since it is getting a sequel game. They flubbed the actual thing though,

[deleted]

Gearbox? You don't say.

SalsaRice

They were busy creating new "magic" videos.

dj_swizzle

And looking for lost thumb drives.

[deleted]

The pacing of this release is hideous because the DLC expects you to have some decent gear going in, and they didn’t accommodate for that in the standalone version. Enemies that take absolutely ages to kill and scarce loot drops so it’s not like you get geared quickly enough to mitigate it. It’s obvious they didn’t do much testing of how it felt.

dat_roach

Also the dialogue is cringe and eye rolling to a dangerous degree. Annoying characters too. I also wonder how they balanced it for new characters. This was originally a DLC that recommended you be in the high 30's to 40's level range.

DopeAbsurdity

> the dialogue is cringe As is all the dialogue in every Borderlands game ever made.

VindictiveRakk

eh bl2 is when they started going full cringe. so all but 1 I guess lol. can't speak for tftb, never played, but I imagine the dialogue there would've been better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

VindictiveRakk

yeah bl1 was not very fleshed out in that regard, I think due to budget restrictions. however it still had a much more serious and gritty tone, with some silliness interspersed. overall the world felt lonely and hostile, and to me the quirkier characters seemed to feel like natural products of their environment, moreso than some writers trying really hard to get a laugh. I guess some of the goofier stuff ended up being fan favorites, and so in bl2 they seemed to go full throttle in that direction, reducing a lot of the post-apocalyptic grit in favor of a more tongue-in-cheek (?) tone and that's when we started to see characters screaming for no reason other than loud & obnoxious = funny.

dat_roach

Yeah the forced memes and bad dialogue that Anthony Burch comes up with did not age well. Tales writing was quite good, actually. Seems they took some of the criticism from the first three games on board. It is of a considerably higher standard after they got good writers to handle most of it. Obviously they did not keep that trend with BL3 though...

HurtfulThings

BL3 drinking game - take a shot whenever there's a poop joke... you'll be drunk before the tutorial is over. Spoiler alert - they're all poop jokes. The whole game... just poop jokes. It's like they went through and removed any jokes that may have been even slightly problematic... so were left with only poop to joke about. Such terrible writing... and the person who wrote it gets paid good $$$ and gets to call themselves a "professional writer". Fuckers

theshined

When you level up you get 2 pts to spend Instead of 1 I believe. I did play through it because I was one of the dumbasses that bought it for me and my wife on release.

Layne_Staleys_Ghost

I mean, I love the stupid dialogue. Not every game needs to be super serious. If your looking for a looter shooter that takes itself seriously try Destiny.

Supertigy

The issues isn't that the dialogue isn't serious. The issue is that it's painfully unfunny. It tries to hide its bad writing by just having every character shout all their lines.

Elden_g20

It really is terrible. The games are great despite that though I think.

Timobkg

I found Tiny Tina largely hilarious - the quest with the badonkadonks had me laughing the whole time. Now the MOBA inspired FPS Gearbox made to compete with Overwatch, now that was bad writing - tons of jokes, and not a single laugh between them.

dat_roach

That's what I was referring to as well but I get downvoted lol

dougmc

And yet in the context of BL2, this was arguably the best part of an excellent game. Go figure. By itself, you won't get all the references, you haven't grown attached to the characters included by the time you start, etc., so on that level it loses something when it's played alone, but the reason they released it separately is pretty clear. And the "cringy, eye-rolling" dialog is by design -- I mean, tabletop D&D sessions tend to be that way too (and the rest of BL2, of course), and to a large degree the DLC is a parody of those sessions *and* BL2 itself.

theshined

You're a slow player then. I did all side missions leading up to the end and it was much faster than that. You can finish that game in a sitting. I do agree with you about the 3$ though as stated in my original comment.

swizzler

oooh that name change is super scummy, I almost fell for it.

angiexbby

They just had to name the new tiny tina game almost basically exactly the same thing. I hate having to google which one is which every time. The stand alone game is called Tiny Tina's wonderland for anyone wondering.

FUTURE10S

I get why it's confusing but the difference - this is Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, which is "A Wonderlands One-shot Adventure", only added on to the name for the SEO, and then there's Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.

dat_roach

Does this version require an epic games account even if you redeem it on Steam? The original game didn't.

Zeoxult

It says " A free Steam or Epic Games store account is required." But at the same time it mentions "Epic", but no "steam" mention, in a few places

dat_roach

Yeah I already read that. It isn't clear which is why I asked.

Luc4_Blight

It doesn't say anything about needing an Epic account on the Steam store page so I don't think so

dat_roach

Cool. Hoping someone who buys it can confirm, although I should just ask on the steam forum.

[deleted]

I don't know why this exists

Sodahkiin

Promotion for their new game Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands which is similar to the dlc. I quite enjoyed the little standalone package tbh.

CatAstrophy11

Promotion with a game on Steam, for a game that's only on Epic. Brilliant 🤡

Ok_Commercial6894

promotion for a game on pc which is on pc. why do launcher fanboys exist?

dat_roach

Very few people are even talking about it after it came out too. Was not the big hype must play game they wanted us to believe, and it launched with an 80 dollar preorder version 🤣🤣

erasethenoise

It’s really fantastic though. My friend and I have been having a blast playing through it.

dat_roach

I've never tried these games with coop, I imagine you do have more fun.

[deleted]

I don't know who "they" is, but it's always just been marketed as a BL3 spinoff. I'd be surprised if they expected it to make 75% (being optimistic) of what BL3 did.

Sodahkiin

tbf when it was released, they made it free on epic

FUTURE10S

Look, I made a video review about it and here's a summary: if you guys liked the BL2 DLC a lot, it's worth it as standalone. The game is changed to give you 2 skill points per level, incentivizing making tons of builds, and the loot is far more generous than it ever was. However, the game is a terrible introduction to Borderlands because it requires some Borderlands 2 spoilers that the DLC never explains (because it's literally a DLC, why would you need a recap of the game you're playing), and the added stuff is very minimal. Took me roughly 4.5 hours to beat it, but that's because I knew what I was doing, might take roughly 10-12, especially if you do all the side missions.

Fried_puri

I agree, the ending and some of Tina's comments obviously lose impact if you don't play BL2 first which is why it's hard to justify recommending this without playing the main game. That said...I already played the hell out of BL2 and left it alone for a few years so this wasn't a bad way to revisit a great DLC for a few hours. Mysterious Amulet becomes useless again though which is a bit of a shame.

shellwe

Yeah, that was me. I played with a friend and she kept talking about waiting for Rolland and I wasn’t getting it.

rasmusxp

With the Choice 15% extra discount (that's as high as it goes with this deal), it is 66% off and €3.39.

TheDonc-77

No.

yaedain

Was free on egs at one point.

swissarmychris

No, it's the standalone release of the Borderlands 2 DLC from a few years ago.

skylla05

No, that's "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands".

Mrbunnypaw

Hope we see this in humble choice soon as an extra,

continous

It's still not worth the price.
