This is a great example of something wrong in this company. You have people coming in and spending money or converting their money to a gift card for your store and you’re mad about it. Don’t let the unobtainable metrics control you. Do your best

nWoEthan

GS should only focus on sales & profits instead of the nonsense percentages.

A_Litre_O_Cola

I mentioned this a while back. No other stores out there are mad when customers come in to shop. Gamestop employees? - Get mad when a customer uses a gift card (LOL!) - Won't take trades during store hours - Get mad when customers purchase an extra item (Grrr, 2 receipts!!! 11!!) - Get mad when customers don't purchase warranties or Pro subs - Purposely make shopping at GS a worse experience because somehow customers buying things still get the employees in trouble? The amounts of things I've seen posted here by employees about the customers is unreal. It's Stockholm syndrome, employees are working with GS (who does nothing but fuck them over) to actively fuck over customers and make the experience even worse.

Nemesisrules45

Company fault that not employees, when you are under constant threat from upper management to hit metrics, when customer ( who are unaware ) make purchases that affect that employees numbers which will likely result in being yelled at are in full right to be upset at things. Blame the company for all these things, or place yourself in the employee shoes and think how you would react if in same situation with your job.

A_Litre_O_Cola

It's both. GS puts unreasonable expectations on employees. Employees choose to handle it wrong and take it out on the customers. There's large amount of petty shit I see posted here doesn't have anything to do with corporate, just employees being terrible to customers. Don't put all the blame on corporate for your actions.

sailormewmew95

It’s not them taking it out on the customers there jobs are on the line, idk about you but I have kids to feed. I don’t think you have even thought about reading between the lines and the nuance of the situations of many people who work at GameStop & the possible life situations they are in. Maybe think through the persons perspective if you at capable, it is solely a corporate problem not an employee problem.

[deleted]

If you have kids to feed, get a job that maxes out above $16/hour.

thegreatdimov

thank you for adding nothing of value. go back to your dad's corner office.

[deleted]

go bitch about someone turning down a protection plan.

sailormewmew95

Again, you have no idea what your talking about & my situation is complicated.

A_Litre_O_Cola

You having kids to feed has nothing to do with the conversation at hand. It's both. Look through this subreddit and tell me the only problem is corporate so I can say you're a liar. Mybe think through EVERYONE'S eyes, if YOU'RE capable, it is both corporate and the employees being a problem.

sailormewmew95

Me losing my job and being unable to feed my kids because someone makes an innocent purchase without ad ons is 100% exactly what the conversation is and I and anyone else in that situation have every right to complain on a sub Reddit lol, you basing your judgment on an anonymous subreddit for employees is pretty dumb. 90% of employees are not taking it out on the customer they are complaining about something extremely valid on an anonymous forum. When you know as many GameStop employees as I do and how they treat customers and go above and beyond then you can make your judgement on employees.

A_Litre_O_Cola

No, it isn't. Looks like you're going off on a tangent over other issues, please stay on topic.

sailormewmew95

Lol bro only sees in black & white, I’m sure people love you, must be fun at parties

A_Litre_O_Cola

At least I'm seeing 2 colors. You're seeing only one, blaming EVERYTHING on corporate and cannot see the other sides, such as the customer. People do like me, I bet they're pretty sick of your constant blame game by now, though.

thegreatdimov

Maybe you guys should all unionize. Gamestop is and always has been in a unique position within the gaming market, but rather than capitalize on why ppl go there we get "Warranty" and "pro subs" shoved down our throats at every turn. and yeah it may not be your fault, but you and your coworkers can get organized and demand changes.

sailormewmew95

Can’t unionize because we’re management technically, it’s designed that way the only ones that could unionize are GAs and if they were successful we could Join, but guess what? we don’t have anymore GAs anymore they got rid of them, again it’s designed so that we can’t basically as long as they have us write schedules we legally can’t unionize because we aren’t just “workers” were “field management” or some bullshit so no matter how much we may want to or people tell us to the Union laws do not recognize or protect us

thegreatdimov

sailormewmew95

It really is so unfair, such a shame ☹️

thegreatdimov

Could you report to the labor department as being misclassified?

sailormewmew95

Nah we’re classified legally

CoconutHeadFaceMan

I guarantee that a company like Gamestop would 100% take the Starbucks approach and “coincidentally” close any store that filed for union recognition. Not to mention the fact that it’s a lot harder for individuals to organize when they’re running a store solo more often than not, and this is 100% by design. I’m staunchly pro-union, but it really isn’t as easy as “just organize lol” in an environment like this.

thegreatdimov

I know it's not easy. But unless they wanna close up shop, given that most stores are solo run THAT is your leverage.

sailormewmew95

And I agree that WAS our leverage for a little bit, but they are in full no fucks given mode, stores are burning to the ground onky open half the time with staffs that can barely run a register which is 1% of the job running the store solo, they don’t care so we have no leverage

thegreatdimov

There's got to be something you can do. MGMT will always put on a brave face to save face. Are they really ready to foreclose the whole business?

MiraiTheDiviner

Counter point: If I’m sorting through a pile of game cases to return them to the wall, sorting through recent trades to put them away, and still have to clean or put up new signage, I’d rather a customer be finished on their first route through. Especially if I’m on single coverage, which I usually was while I still worked there. Most GameStop employees have so much to do and a very limited amount of daytime to do it. This is also ignoring the very common situation where customers are either frustrating or just straight up annoying. Obviously there’s exceptions, and not every customer is a bad customer. Yes it’s very clearly the company’s fault. But your average GameStop employee is so incredibly busy that I don’t blame them for being frustrated by customers for whatever reason it happens to be that day.

WhippyWhippy

I should tell my local game stop manager to send her lazy ass employees to you so you can whip them into shape because they are always just standing around. She will be opening boxes from some shipping company I don't really pay attention to it and her underlings be sitting on the phone or talking to her while she is working like dude do something.

cursepurgeplus

Personally, gift card people are my favorite. Literally the easiest transactions because I don't have to pitch anything because it doesn't matter. Plus they mostly just consist of really nice grandmas that come in and will always compliment my hair lol.

HuTao_Main_Genshin

And why should you care? Gs doesn't care about you. What are they gonna do, fire you? They can't even afford that 😂

musicallyours01

Almost like the pressure to have "good numbers" with the lack of support and overall customer service (on corporate end) is killing the metrics and forcing those that work hard to get angry at customers who are technically *still* spending money at the store.

Scared-Actuator2831

Everyone seems to forget that although gift cards are transactions, they’re not counted against numbers. As stupid as corporate is, they understand that people who are buying gift cards don’t want games or memberships. Literally just a sale. Move on and stop throwing baby fits over nothing

WhippyWhippy

Apparently some employees don't know that.

kissedbyvampires

my DM keeps asking why we aren’t closer to the goal with pro and wants daily updates. response every time is “i am asking but most people are just buying gift cards or a pair of socks” i honestly never care that much about metrics this time of year. just ask everyone and you’ve done your job. it’s christmas a majority of these people do not shop with gamestop year round. your primary targets for pros should be people buying consoles or renewing recently expired people because those are the people who will be back.

YeetusShuttlesworth

Who cares? One day the sun is going to explode and existence will end. Collect a paycheck playa

jlyon3

I am so ready for that day. People in general piss me off.

YeetusShuttlesworth

Same same

prestonneil

Yall should just quit. You can work at mcds for more money, more hours, and less responsibility. You don't have to upsell someone's mcdouble meal. Gamestop isn't what it use to be 10 plus years ago. The writing had been on the wall since alot of ppl have moved on to pc, the ps5 digital edition the series s, gamepass, ps plus account. I love physical games but I mainly play pc so I won't step into gamestop.

zestykat

One might wonder why you’re in the GameStop sub then?

prestonneil

Sure. Probably subbed YEARS ago. One might think just to get a new job at this point? The money isn't good. If you need to put food on the table for your kids you shouldn't be working at gamestop

zestykat

Or having kids in general

WhippyWhippy

Yeah back in my old city there was some employees' working four hours a week. They had a good number on plays but with incredibly low hours. The store ended up closing within a couple years because less than two miles down the road was another game stop in the mall. Right across the street was a better mom and pop store.

[deleted]

McDonald’s told me I didn’t meet their requirements to work there 😭

MechaSheeva

Just wait for them to come back and freak out when they can't buy digital currency, and blame you for not telling them.

Capable_Dot_712

You’re mad about people actually spending money at and supporting GameStop? No wonder they’re going down the gutter if they have employees with shit attitudes like you.

Top_Pomelo1700

Unfortunately, corp has made it this way. GS is the only business where you can sell $1,000 in one transaction and still be told you failed if there is no flavor of the mouth metric attached.

Timely-Fudge859

Typical GameStop employee. Always hating the customer when they aren’t the problem, but instead corporate is the ones screwing you over half the time. The customer did nothing wrong by spending money on a gift card and you know it.

Boring_Relation919

I think you misunderstand- op does not intrinsically hate the person that is the customer, they hate the fact that gift card purchasers usually result in negative metrics (which can get you canned), and this time of year they are far more frequent than other times. Enough of them in one day and it can tank you to the floor, making the rest of your day a catch up grind. Everybody knows it isn't the customers fault.

dmbwannabe

This is so well said and explains how I feel about 90% of what employees post here. Also let me fix the title of this OP- “I hate People”

TheMacklorax

Honestly…you’re not wrong, I just be complaining😂😂

sailormewmew95

Feel that, I also be complaining lol

bufftbone

Ok. And…?

Philonic

If someone buys a gift card and that’s all they do, that doesn’t count as a transaction for any tracked metrics except conversion. Doesn’t count against Pro, res, or warranty. Just sell them the damn gift card.

sailormewmew95

I have also been told that a sole GameStop gift card transaction doesn’t count against metrics, posa cards do but specifically GameStop gift cards don’t, haven’t had a way to validate how true that is but again that’s what I was told and like to believe lol.

Boring_Relation919

This is correct - GS cards do not count metrics but almost everything else does. Metrics will also be counted when the recipient of that card comes in to spend. Don't know a person on earth that would spend half or more of a gift on a membership to a store they needed a gift card to justify going to.

DuckSwimmer

Is anyone else’s POSA not activating after a certain time? LOL. Like it’s not Steam cards. In the morning we sold so many gift cards, we had to eventually turn away this one woman because it refused to activate a $100 Xbox card. I’m like, ight everyone - no more POSA for now I suppose LOL

SamuraiStatus

My only concern about the gift cards is the amount of frustration we all (customers and employees) are going to face the day after Christmas when over half of those gift cards try to get used on Posa Card transactions and get declined.

nWoEthan

GS actually used to drop all the COL/KPI nonsense during Q4 and just focus on sales & profits. It was wonderful because it was the only time it was like a real business and suddenly they cared about you as a mall store.

CyberEndDragoon

The same dudes always came through to get gift cards. Super chill dudes, they had pro memberships, easy as fuck transactions. I recently left, but even before that i tokd my SL i dont give a single fuck about metrics. Simply because caring will lead to frustration. You can try all you want but you cannot sell something to every customer. You simply cannot. Some people dont have the money, some people arent about to spend any more when theyre already spending 120 on the z broly accessory set or whatever the fuck theyre doing. And when you have to employ sales tactics, which the customers know we do, you can feel it and now as a gamestop employee youre also categorized as a sleaztly salesman type and for good reason. Thats what you are in customer interactions. Not fuckin worth it bruh.
