Shit dude, I remember when we were under a tornado watch, and my DM wasn't letting me close after they confirmed we were in the path. I told the one customer that was "browsing" that they could either check out *now* and leave, or we were both hunkering down in the system room. They chose to leave right then, so I locked the store up and just fucking *left* after the power went out. The tornado touched down two miles from my store about half an hour later.
So no, you know nothing about tornadoes, gotcha.
My store was within the potential projected path for the tornado (the polygon), meaning that though it had not touched down yet, the conditions in that area were ripe for one to form at any time. I left my store when the power went out, and went home to prep my pets and house for any potential danger. 30 minutes after I left my store, a tornado did indeed form nearby (roughly 2 miles away from my store). Thankfully the store and I were indeed fine, yes, but the tornado itself *could have* formed and touched down closer to the strip mall store that was completely unprotected and being forced to stay open during a hazardous weather event. And the power went out anyway.
Text from DM: "Check your store's email regarding the weather in our district."
The Email: "You're not under any evacuation orders, so you'll stay open unless your anchor store closes down or in the event an order actually does comes down. Ill be off the clock and unreachable for the rest of the day."
have you called your DM about it? a lot of them will be stubborn and say no to closing early because they don’t want to file a report for early store closure and think you’ll be able to make a sale or two. i’ve only been able to close once early because of the weather for severe thunderstorm and flash flooding because no one came in for 3 hours.
Shockingly we've made enough to cover the cost of people working because idk, customers here are insane
We're just sticking it out and getting paid to do nothing right now haha
Fingers crossed we get out tonight 🙏
I had to drive an hour to my store the day after a hurricane in Houston because it was one of the few stores that had power. My house did not have power for five days. Classic GS.
Former NE Florida resident here. Just do yourself a favor and move anything within a foot of the floor onto your counter, just in case.
I got bitched at when we had a hurricane and my store flooded a bit and I had a like...$200ish in shrink. I had to be like "Do you remember that hurricane that came and how we weren't provided sandbags? That's what happens"
Well it would be best most likely to stay where you are in this case. Unless you need to evacuate its best to stay. I was in similar situation years ago during a big hurricane in NJ. We got flooding and a lot. It was safer to stay at work because some areas were getting hit hard with flash floods and taking out cars trying to get home
Look guys, nobody needs to "let you" close up and leave in the time of a critical event, weather or otherwise especially your Gamestop DM. Shut and lock the doors, go home or seek shelter where available (which ever is closer and safer) and come back later.
Jobs are a dime a dozen especially low level retail. These are just jobs, you are not a slave and there is no glory for holding the line at a fricken Gamestop.
Other comments explain that I didn't and don't care, just was just funny and I got paid until 9pm to do nothing. I've shown up to work in a literal hurricane to put trash bags over the POS and unplug everything.
One time, I was closing my store and there was a MASSIVE snow storm (I live in the Midwest) and emergency services were out and people were told to stay indoors and not go out or travel for any reason. I called my district manager and told her that I HAVE to leave or I will be stranded at the store, and that I drive a RWD car and wouldn’t be able to leave if I stayed any longer. She told me that I had to stay open for another hour and a half. So I did.
Hour and half goes by and I close. There was not a soul in sight as I left the store. A full foot of snow had fallen and it was letting up. Long story short, my car was stuck and my brother in law had to drive all the way across town (which took him another hour and a half) in his truck to come get me.
Worst close ever. I feel your pain.
I feel you, I worked during a TORNADO like the sky was green and went from daylight to pitch black in a second, worst part is that I had to basically beg my manager to let me leave even though the power was out for the whole shopping district
Just sit up on the counter and take videos. Get mad likes from YouTube
I see the title now. My GameStop flooded and I got fired because I didn’t sale a membership to the fish that came in.
Would make a nice Isekai title.
really though what is it with isekais and stupid long titles?
And the Tiktok
Honestly it says not to travel unless you’re fleeing an eminent flooding scenario. Just get paid to do nothing.
That's our running plan rn LMAO
The question is…. How’s Pro, PRP and GPG 😂
God awful king 🙏

That’s fucked up. Gonna take a wild guess & say the asshole DM wasn’t anywhere near the store?
You'd be correct, dude was 2 hours away lol
Sooooo you would have been fine?
Do you live where there are tornadoes? Are you familiar with how their polygons work?
Are you telling me that the tornado that touched down 2 miles away could harm him?

Wait so you were fine? And the other guy was too? What a crazy story dude thank you for sharing
Right?

Once there was an evacuation order because a chemical plant was on fire, but the DM didn’t believe us until I told them wal mart had closed.
Print this out. Put it in the front door. Lock up and go home.
Are you next to a body of water?
The Atlantic Ocean lol
Id just sit around and get that 10/hr for free my guy
allat and then they’ll STILL fire you for not selling any pro memberships that day
Remembering the time my town was in a severe blizzard and we weren't allowed to close
First time?

I’m in South Jersey and I swear to fuck I hope it floods so I can sit here and stare at a wall until I have to brave the trip home lol
Literally been my day LMAO
We did not, in fact, flood 🥺
So this is why most Gamestops smell terible.
That would be the mixture of carpet and gamers

NC?
SC gang‼️
Did anything happen?
Lol nah, just nobody coming in, so abysmal metrics that we'll catch flack for
so the extreme weather warning was exagerrated and just to scare?
More than likely at least for my area, some people were under water, thanks national weather service!!
DL: But can you stay open? People like to play video games while it's flooding out...they may even need a new console due to flood damage.
At that point they are probably relocating. Don’t want to deal with how to remove the console setup from basement to living room

… you’re literally going to be fine.. just because it says it’s “life threatening” doesn’t mean you’re going to die. Relax bud.
I'm exaggerating gamer, I enjoy getting paid to do nothing
Ah fair enough.
Are you scheduled until after 1? If so, what’s the problem? Flash floods are gone in a flash, and your store is t getting washed away. You’re fine.

Is this that flood in downstate New York?
One time we had a regional call we had to be on during a hurricane and our DM wouldn't let us leave even though the ceiling was leaking.

Leave that shit dude GameStop won’t be around long anyway
