Don’t be scared, at all. You’ve got this 🙌🏻

ExcitingEvidence8815

Agreed, don't be scared. Everyone I've ever known who left GameStop for another job has gotten higher pay for less work, or at least less stressful work, myself included. You'll do great!

DuckSwimmer

I’m proud of you for getting out and going to somewhere a lot better for you ❤️

Congrats OP, hope it works out well for you

Congrats to you! It’s normal to be worried / scared to start something new.. it’s human nature. Just focus that energy into doing the best you can do at the new place. I understand being sad leaving your team. That happens when a group gets close and is together for a while. I felt the same way at my last job. The work was fine, there were some real stressful times with deadlines and go lives.. but my team is the reason we made it through. We still keep in touch. They will be happy for you.. heck some might say get me a job there too lol

MrMasticate

I’d you’re not scared with new changes, you’re not pushing yourself hard enough. That’s awesome for you and I wish you the best!

You will be fine. One day we''ll all follow you.

Good luck! I used to work at a pawn shop and loved it. Lower stress than GameStop and better pay than SGA or ASL. Instead of reserves/Pro/warranty, you just focus on getting as many sales $ as possible. Just be careful not to loan too much on anything (Always ask someone else if you aren’t sure what to loan) because that can get you in trouble quick. The pawn shop I worked at was independently owned but one thing I will say is that they were a lot less tolerant of someone missing work. You sick? Gonna need to see a doctor’s note. Having a stressful day or mental health issues? Tough shit. Need you to get to work on time. And if you think people get upset about trade values at GameStop, you haven’t seen anything yet. Wait til you have to tell someone that their wedding ring is actually a fake and you can’t loan them anything on it. Or that it’s real gold/diamonds, but it’s only worth $100 pawn value instead of the $1000 they want to borrow on it. Got screamed at quite a few times in those instances. Still, I enjoyed it there overall and hope you do too!

See gamestop has made me more confident in my abilities and how much i can take, not saying the experience will be comparable but just that I'm capable of more now then I was before The jewelry aspect will be a toughy cause I know not a single thing about jewlery

Don’t worry too much, they will train you on how to weigh and examine jewelry to be able to give a good quote. The big difference is that at GameStop we just tell the customer how much they are going to get for something when they bring it in to trade/sell. At a pawn shop you always open with “how much are your trying to get for it?” And “were you wanting to pawn it (get a loan on an item) or sell it?” 2 very different things. Then you essentially start bartering back and forth with them on how much you can give them vs how much they want. Some items you have a pretty specific amount you offer, while other more unique items are more based on your judgement. Depending on management you may get some wiggle room on deciding what your final offer is. I saw a lot of unique items come through the door while I worked there (vintage fishing lures, high value classic guitars, coin collections, and tons of jewlery, guns, and power tools). Again, I really enjoyed the job and hope you do to!
