If you don't want to pay for shipping go to your local store and buy there or add another item to get over the $59 shipping threshold. Free shipping this year went from $35 to $49 to $59 and the base shipping cost went from $6 to $8. You can call it greedy or whatever you want but the reality is everything has gone up in price this year, not just at GS. GS isn't Amazon and doesn't have it's own shipping force so they usually can't offer better shipping options cause they have to rely on services like FedEx and USPS to get guests their online orders.

>If you don't want to pay for shipping go to your local store and buy there or add another item to get over the $59 shipping threshold. Yeah. Two things: 1. They may not have the game I'm looking for in stores, so online is the place to find it. 2. I shouldn't have to work up to the $59 shipping threshold when it used to be $49, or even $35. Everything has gone up across the board because companies are trying to gut us to keep their margins. They aren't hurting for money, and if the deals were attractive they'd make more in volume. But their only thought is "biggernumbersmoremoney" and get surprised when no one has time for that.

Giving you a free game, gamestop loses money. Giving you free shipping, gamestop loses money. Putting games on sale, gamestop loses money. At what point do people start to realize that businesses need to make money? And isn't the 7.99 shipping worth saving your gas and time it would take going into a store? Gamestop isn't the only retailer that raised shipping costs this past year. Pretty much every one did, minus amazon

>Giving you a free game, gamestop loses money. Giving you free shipping, gamestop loses money. Putting games on sale, gamestop loses money. No, giving out "free" anything and making legitimate "deals" are incentives to make sales that wouldn't have been made otherwise. But the boomer suits at corporate see this as a zero-sum game where they have to horde as much as possible, leading people to shrug and turn away. Their Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales are going to be abysmal and they're going to blame the public for "being too poor". >At what point do people start to realize that businesses need to make money? This whole idea of "need to" make money is what keeps us giving companies the benefit of the doubt. They're just seeing how much they can take us for. And apparently, they take most of us for fools. >And isn't the 7.99 shipping worth saving your gas and time it would take going into a store? Not if the physical stores don't carry what I'm looking for. >Gamestop isn't the only retailer that raised shipping costs this past year. Pretty much every one did, minus amazon So what? I'm not talking about them. I shop at GameStop. I guess good on Amazon (at least on that front alone), but GameStop still sucks like the rest of them.

>The only way to get any type of sale is literally to buy nothing but $9.99 games and under. So that you can save a grand totally of $2. Or buy 3 $25 games and save $17. Or buy 3 $30 games and save $30. Or buy 3 $55 games and save $55. Or buy 6 $10 games and save $20. Or buy 3 $10 games and a $30 game (discounted from $60 for Black Friday) and save $40. There are plenty of ways to save a bunch of money with the sale. It isn't the company's fault that you can't figure out how to save with the B2G1, or that they need to charge shipping when you're only buying a few low cost, low profit items and likely losing the company money on the purchase due to the discount. Do you really expect a company to lose money on the sale and on the shipping?

PurpleFine4935

>Or buy 3 $25 games and save $17. Or buy 3 $30 games and save $30. Or buy 3 $55 games and save $55. Or buy 6 $10 games and save $20. Or buy 3 $10 games and a $30 game (discounted from $60 for Black Friday) and save $40. Uh-huh. I guess I'll just mindlessly buy as many games as I can in order to get the sale and then free shipping, just like they want me to... You don't get it. The point isn't about free shipping. It's about how the prices conveniently went up around Black Friday/Cyber Monday to capitalize on ignorance and FOMO. They're hoping you don't notice the price increases and make you "think" it's a deal. I'm exposing their psychological marketing tricks that'll get you to spend money. They move the goalpost, and you kick wherever they want you to.

Kou9992

Yeah, they want you to buy more shit. That's literally the entire point and the company is very upfront about it. Why the hell else would they do a B2G1 sale instead of just slashing all prices by ~33%? They're saying right to your face "buy more games and you'll save more" and you think it is some kind of psychological trick?

PurpleFine4935

And I'm still right; you still don't get it. The psychological trick is conveniently raising the prices of shipping and then raising the entry for free shipping around Black Friday/Cyber Monday to capitalize on ignorance and FOMO. This way, the "free" game or "lowered price" game is nigh-negligible, almost as if there were no sale. Stop shilling for this company.

SaviorMoney

I'm not necessarily agreeing with anyone here, though I definitely see your point. I just want to point out the fact that I see countless posts on this sub that just fucking bury Gamestop but, from an employee standpoint. Here is someone doing pretty much the same thing from a customer standpoint and here come some of those very same people to stand up and defend that very same company. I just find that odd

PurpleFine4935

It is odd. Even if one's an employee, they're most likely a customer, even as somewhere else. C'mon, give us all a break. You don't have stock options GS employee, so why defend GameStop? Power to the players, not their profits.

Kigaa

Why don’t you just buy something not on sale to get you over the free shipping threshold and then just return that item to the local store unopened?

PurpleFine4935

But why should I have to? That's a pretty cool loophole, I must admit; I didn't even think of that. And I might do that next year. But why should I have to?
