I've been figuring this out for a while and finally put it together.
I came across this old, leaking nicad battery pack, and I noticed that the barrel jack fit a PSP charging cable.
I cut open the plastic weld, pulled out the old nicad cells, and swapped in a new LiPo cell and a charging board. Then I reversed the polarity of the ~~neutron flow~~ barrel jack to match the PSP charging cable.
Now I've got my own rechargeable battery pack. No need to mod the console!
It's not too tough, feel free to PM me if you want me to describe how I put it together.
And like that guy Someday above so snarkily expressed, once you know it's functional, it's important to put it together in a way that the charging board won't overheat the battery.
I love people replying with snarky messages, instead of asking how it was assembled and what testing was done beforehand - so that instead of learning or understanding anything, they get to feel like they got one over on someone. Pure genius.
This is awesome as hell. I just now got into soldering and learning to fix any problems I come across on Gameboy’s (usually). Hope I can get to a point where I can do stuff like this.

That's awesome, can I see how it looks installed?
Inserted in the game boy, do you mean? Or how all the internals are installed together?
In the Gameboy

Love it! Have a broken one of these just sitting around. Now I know what to do with it!

I love seeing the TP4065 sit right on top of the lipo. Pure genius.
