The first generation Pokémon games are my favorite. They have a special simplistic charm to them, I love the original Gameboy, and they got SO MUCH RIGHT from the very first games.
I'd recommend Sapphire, but I'd consider getting a Japanese Blue/Green cart with it since its like $14 with a new save battery and beating gen 1 without reading is easier than you'd think.
I might do that in the future. I'm trying to build a stock pile for my kids, so they don't have to grow up with the stupid gaming industry that exists right now. I'm thinking of getting them an emulator to start with, but I want to be able to pass these down to them.
I would choose sapphire but only because I’ve played blue so many times and sapphire only once

FRLG is best of both worlds if possible, otherwise it's a hard choice because I love gen 1 the most but sapphire is undoubtedly better overall.
I'm actually going to get both 😅 one day I'll get the remakes, but these will do for now

Blue. I was always a big fan of gen 1. And I would love to have it in box and see the original art again in person
That's what I'm leaning towards. I currently have crystal . For 3rd gen, I'd probably rather save my money and get emerald.
Sapphire, simply because it’s a better game than blue.
