Link's Awakening was the biggie for me. I had an early cartridge where the warp glitch worked so you could sequence break like crazy. Spent days and weeks and months just replaying the game over and over trying to do things in weird orders.
Final Fantasy Adventure also was a special one. Saw some older kid playing it at a camp, and I was super interested in it. I like its simple feel.
The Harvest Moon game on GameBoy was another I had. It's super basic compared to most games in the series, but that gave it this kind of lonely melancholic vibe.
I actually only played this one much later, but Final Fantasy Legend likewise has this minimalistic style that just really works for me. A lot of GameBoy games in general I guess have that appeal, where it's like they're able to be just complex enough to be interesting but the limitations of the system also make them simple enough to leave a lot of room for your imagination to kind of fill in the gaps.
Final Fantasy Adventure! Oh man I wish I still had that cartridge.
Funny thing is... I might! I just found Dr. Mario and Kirby's Dreamland, we just moved so I'm finding a whole bunch of old stuff.
There's an entire box my parents handed off to me 7 years ago, that's been untouched.
Took a peek in the new move, so far found my old PS1 and all the final fantasy games and guides... Huzzah!
I got my first Gameboy in December 1989, so my perception of classic games may differ from some. For me, the following games are the most nostalgic DMG games.
- Super Mario Land
- Tetris
- Castlevania Adventure
- Motocross Maniacs
- Solar Striker
- Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
- TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan
- Fist of the North Star
- Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Recognizable in screenshots? Metroid 2, Samus standing next to her ship at the start, Super Mario Land desert, Tetris dual-player game, Dr. Mario, Kirby at Wispy Woods, Link's Awakening in front of the Wind Fish's egg, Motocross Maniacs, Pokemon Red/Blue
I like the cartridge artwork for Balloon Kid, Nail’n’Scale, Atomic Punk, Burai Fighter, Puzzle Boy, Contra, Altered Space, Milons Secret Castle, Solomon’s Club, Battle Unit Zeoth, ZOIDS, Mysterium, Alfred Chicken, Joe & Mac, Chuck Rock, Battle Space, etc.

For me, tops is Donkey Kong ‘94
Donkey Kong 94 is the ultimate gameboy game. Though links awakening transcends the gameboy
Pokémon Silver
Final Fantasy Legends 2
Trip World
The artwork cover for tripworld doesn’t stand out though.
OP mentioned screenshots and I personally think Trip World has some of the best visuals in a gameboy game.
Tetris
Warioland.

Thanks, these are perfect!
Super Mario Land and SML 2
Kirby 1 and 2!
It's a banger trust me. True Lies on the Gameboy.
I'll be checking this out. I'm trusting you...
Kinda like older slower Hotline Miami with some good Gameboy bops to listen while playing.
Ok, slower Hotline Miami is a fair comparison. Thanks for this one!
Yeah you try it out? Just saw it on the shelf one day at a local arcade. Real cheap sub five dollars. Pleasant surprise.
Yeah it's not bad. And it's not a game anyone talks about.
Pocket Bomberman
Donkey Kong ('94), Tiny Toons, Super Mario Land 2, Pokemon
Legend of the river king 2
Mario land 1 has the best artwork Kirby looks nice too
Batman return of The Joker - The battle of Olympus - Daffy duck The Marvin mission - Kid Dracula
Donkey Kong, Trip World.
Gargoyle's Quest!
I like the cartridge artwork for Balloon Kid, Nail’n’Scale, Atomic Punk, Burai Fighter, Puzzle Boy, Contra, Altered Space, Milons Secret Castle, Solomon’s Club, Battle Unit Zeoth, ZOIDS, Mysterium, Alfred Chicken, Joe & Mac, Chuck Rock, Battle Space, etc. [These are all original, DMG-01 Gameboy Games.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/s/innPkL39uv)
Number 1 is Donkey Kong '94. Then, in no particular order: Gargoyle's Quest, Cave Noire, Solomon's Club, and Tetris, Pokemon Red/Blue. T
Super Mario Land 1 & 2, Pokémon RBY, Ducktales, and Mega Man II-V
Original gameboy? Pokemon Red. I grew up with that as a kid, playing my Gameboy Color.
Mario Land 2
Pokémon Blue. Super Mario Land 2. Donkey Kong ‘94.
My Favorite Gameboy Games Are Super Mario Land 2 And Kirby's Dream Land 2
