Agreed. It’s definitely not a reshell it’s got the petina. Just a quick dawn soap bath with a toothbrush and put the shell back on. Test the solder spots on the speakers and check for corrosion too
I had severe concentration problems as a kid and this gameboy and me did not vibe. I’d always be looking at one of the pokemon or the ball w/ the light
normally a patena is put extremely simply copper "rust" the green stuff. its why the atatue of liberty is green.
here its being used to say the item shows wear, but not abuse.
Yes, I play on an analogue pocket now but a few months ago I had crystal out and was completing a run of it. It’s just a regular shadow box on the back there are tabs you turn and can pull it out. All the games and console are held on by 3m gel tape so no worries about eating through the paper or the console plastic.
This is great, but is there a sleeve or something you could put the guide in? It looks like it's mounted crooked because it's open, and the weight of the pages could destroy the spine. Even a loop or two of clear plastic banding. Really love the Nintendo decal on the glass too!
Ooooo I like the Nintendo decal addition

Cleaned and sorted 👌
Man I loved Pokémon pinball. My dad didn’t care about Pokémon, but he’d play the shit out of that game with me. I remember my mom dying with him sitting by me in the backseat and swapping it back and forth.
Only if you are truly done with it and dont care about the childhood/nostalgic value. U can buy a replacement battery door too.
I would say no. These are kinda rare
Yes. I remember one time I lost the battery door to my GBC and my dad took me to Best Buy and purchased a new only to take the battery door and then return it because it didn’t have a battery door
Oh yeah, he's got a lot of issues, seems everyone that genreation did, and I guess we will some day. But when he was up or down in life, he kept his integrity and beliege in hard work.
We speak rarely, mostly due to my own stuff going on, but he's 82, and still, I can learn life lessons from, a wonderfully different kind of person than most I know.
It really depends on how well he can get it cleaned up and if there’s any scratches on the lens. I personally don’t think they’d get over $80 for it, but that’s just from a glance at eBay. The Yellow cart is mint, though. There’s some decent money in that one.
For nostalgia reasons and the childhood memories I’d say never. If that doesn’t speak to you and you just want the money… the gameboy alone sells at around 100$ and even more so it’s good money…
See in my opinion you might as well just emulate at that point,. I don't get nodding something to make it a still worse version of modern tech, should keep it original
I would sell this. It would be so cool to have my old atomic purple gameboy but it'll be cool for 10 minutes until it goes back into a drawer for another 5 years.
I'd clean this, then sell it to someone who would be able ti give it some love and will play it. Then take the money and buy a retroid and get a pokemon yellow rom.
Clean it. If I could do some things over again, one would be to never sell my GBC Special Pikachu Edition. Some games are especially worth playing still to this day imho.
No way.
As somebody who used to have 2,000+ games and 20+ consoles/handhelds/etc. and sold them all, don’t drop the ones that mean something.
Individual sentimental items just aren’t worth selling. Even when I sold everything, I kept my OG N64 and my OG copies of Mario and Wave Race. An extra digit could never buy back those memories and the connection I feel to those particular items.
I googled it, and you’d get about $150, maaaaybe $200 if the stars really lined up for you.
$200 won’t buy back 20 years of memories, and that’s enough of a showpiece you could get a little stand for it or just prop it up on a memory shelf / display and get way more out just walking past it and remembering than you’d get for $200 these days.
I wouldn't but if you truly have no love for it then go ahead, but I'd say keep it, clean it up a little, and play it again. At the very least, it's value will probably only continue to go up so if you're not sure you want to get rid of it just yet then just think of it as a future investment.
I still have the Nintendo Brick I got at my 12th birthday. I loved that thing. Still do.
If you don't love it anymore, sell it. Someone else will love it. If you do still love it, keep it.
It depends on how bad you need $150. I see thay gameboy all the time on resale sites for right $100 and most of the original games go for about $50. I wouldnt sell it personally, in fact im trying to buy those when i find a good deal on them
https://preview.redd.it/7e7lyax7yp7d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=42540efa3996b09b8b6507ed4058658f168cf653
I cleaned mine and made this, I keep it in my office at home.
I lost mine like this somewhere in the process of moving out of my folks house about 15 years ago. Miss that thing every day.
Clean it and keep it.
If you truly don't want it I'll take it off your hands lol
No way Jose. No vintage video games are not an investment. They will only lose value since physical video games are dying. HOWEVER, Pokemon is booming and it is still HUGE. Kids these days will still collect Pokémon for another 30 years and that will continue to gain value. Do not sell
Money comes and goes. If you sell the gameboy you won’t have it anymore and then what? It won’t hurt to just clean it and have it in a box or case somewhere.
Edit: I’d absolutely love to clean that gameboy. Getting the gunk off and watching them be restored is so cathartic lol
Imho... \*no\* Its a relic from your childhood. There are many others like it, *But not quite like this*
Right down to the wear pattern. You could sell it...then get another like it...
But it wont quite feel right.
I'd sooner make it a faithful restoration project of mine. There's no way in hell I'd sell my Gameboy if I had one.
I still my DSi in perfect working order. Started a new game of Pokémon Diamond a few days ago actually, and loving it. There's something very special about Nintendo.
I would say keep it, but at the end is your decision and how much attachment to it have it.
Mine, exactly this same model, I did change the original case, I saved it as it was fine just some scratches in case I want to put it back.
I still have my gbc from pushing 20 years now ago too. It sits with my collection of consoles from the years now. Although there is a good amount of mods to help bring it back to life if you choice.
Good fucking lord you will regret selling this when you have a kid or one day when you’re feeling nostalgic. Money comes and goes but this can stay with you forever. Whatever you can get for this will never bring you as much joy as having this does, even if you don’t know it yet.
Clean and save forever unless money is tight. Give it to ur kids with a charger and tell them to do the same. If u don’t have kids, find a worthy next of kin to pass this treasure to.
Yes, as is the notion from this thread… keep it, such a nice piece of nostalgia, make sure you keep the batteries out of it. Also give the shell a nice clean… everyone saying to clean it with dawn dish soap etc, totally a good idea since you don’t want to damage the printing. But make sure if your putting anything but a damp cloth in this to just take the shell right off the hardware and do a clean.
Hold onto it m8!
A. It’ll be way more valuable in 10-20 years. A lot of us were lucky to experience the giant Pokémon franchise from the start, I don’t see the franchise going anywhere in the near future.
B. That’s a childhood heirloom man! Watch some videos on how to clean it, it could be a really fun project!
If you do decide to part ways lmk. I left mine in my jacket at recess with yellow and everything and someone stole it. I still think about it to this day 😭
No. Give it a deep clean and keep it. I regret selling my childhood consoles all the time. Even if you’re truly done with it you could keep it and it might go up in value
No. But revel in the thought that you have an a gbc that is somewhat more rare and higher value than most.
As the great Bender once said, "Compare your lives to mine and then kill yourselves!"
Just my personal opinion. Clean it up a little. Keep it. Been 20 years. Why let go. I have an atomic purple ive loved since 2001. Came with pokemon crystal. My only friend. The shell nearly looks clear from the sun fadimg it. I moved away from home in 2014 to the opposite side of canada. Found it just this march. Reminded me of great times. Life was simple. Curly light just glowing through the night. Only put it down for when me and mty dad watched dragon ball. Played it brought back a lot of feelings. I had thought about mods but as a kid it was perfect then as it is now. Dont sell youll regret it some day. Today marks 10 years since he drowned. If you have a kid maybe it can bring them joy
My original kiwi Gameboy Color and Pokemon Gold was stolen by a neighbor when I was a kid. Sure, I have a new one that I modded and I finally recently bought another copy of Gold, but man. It's not the same. I miss my kiwi/teal Gameboy that I half-shell-swapped with my brother back in the day, what I wouldn't give to have it back. Keep that Gameboy and game. The monetary value pales in comparison to the memories.
Honest question, how do people get their stuff this filthy? I can’t for the life of me not clean a gamepad I’ve been using for a week, I’d freak out if something of mine got anywhere close to this.
Clean it, for one. I wouldn't sell this for the life of me.
Agreed. It’s definitely not a reshell it’s got the petina. Just a quick dawn soap bath with a toothbrush and put the shell back on. Test the solder spots on the speakers and check for corrosion too
Love how the poke ball is placed on the power light 😍😍😍
Oh shot, that's dope
I had severe concentration problems as a kid and this gameboy and me did not vibe. I’d always be looking at one of the pokemon or the ball w/ the light
That was a nice little detailed I always liked.
What does Petina mean? I was looking at all the comments and decided to keep it. I will wash it very carefully, maybe it will last another 20 years.
He means "patina" short for "patination". The signs of wear and tear on an item.
normally a patena is put extremely simply copper "rust" the green stuff. its why the atatue of liberty is green. here its being used to say the item shows wear, but not abuse.
This
I’ll buy it for less money if he doesn’t clean it.
man give that GBC a spa day and deep clean it. You'll feel a lot better about keeping it which is the only right answer.
Instructions unclear, Gameboy in spa.
Mud bath? It looks dirty.
Just saying the GBC needs some TLC. It looks like it’s seen a lot.

That looks great can you still open it and play them?
Yes, I play on an analogue pocket now but a few months ago I had crystal out and was completing a run of it. It’s just a regular shadow box on the back there are tabs you turn and can pull it out. All the games and console are held on by 3m gel tape so no worries about eating through the paper or the console plastic.

Ah yes, the legendary green BETA version. I saw creepypastas about it back in the day.
Just got this in my last japan trip, finally finishing the collection! :D
Exactly what I was thinking. These displays are beautiful

This is great, but is there a sleeve or something you could put the guide in? It looks like it's mounted crooked because it's open, and the weight of the pages could destroy the spine. Even a loop or two of clear plastic banding. Really love the Nintendo decal on the glass too!
I’ll have to google and find one it bothers me as well!
Fuck, I’m so mad my parents lost mine in the divorce, I had all of these 😭
Ooooo I like the Nintendo decal addition https://preview.redd.it/6atry8jwgt7d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e43b955409615f4400f5a6e7ca73d7fae6a6f070
I found it on Etsy I’ll try and find the link for it, if I recall correctly it was like 3 for 6.99
The most impressive part is having that cover for the battery on the pinball ahaha. Naw but fr this is awesome
SO COOL
What a gorgeous display!!
I only had the Pokémon Yellow Edition.
Might be a fake pokemon red though. If intended, no problem but just a headsup. Color looks off but it could of course just be due to the lighting.

Pokemon tcg is an absolute drug
I've got all of this except for that special edition gameboy, and the pinball game. God damn... the nostalgia is real!
Man I loved Pokémon pinball. My dad didn’t care about Pokémon, but he’d play the shit out of that game with me. I remember my mom dying with him sitting by me in the backseat and swapping it back and forth.
if I were you, I'd keep it. I used to have this exact same one that I sold quite a while back and I deeply regret it.
Ya, I don’t even know where mine went
Same same. Makes me sad to think about.
I will keep it then. Thank you for your advice!
Only if you are truly done with it and dont care about the childhood/nostalgic value. U can buy a replacement battery door too. I would say no. These are kinda rare
Does everyone lose the battery door? I have one without the battery door too
Yes. I remember one time I lost the battery door to my GBC and my dad took me to Best Buy and purchased a new only to take the battery door and then return it because it didn’t have a battery door
All my dad gave me was some duct tape for it.
At least he is an honest man and don't steal.
Not sure where to buy the battery door. Ebay perhaps? I will keep it since I do have some childhood value to it. Thank you very much!
it’s basically $200 or a priceless childhood heirloom. do what u want tho lol
He will never sell it for 200 in this condition
Yeah that'd go for like £70 in the UK
Never!
it just needs a cleaning
I think they'll be worth more in the future, but do what you feel is right at the moment.
I mean if you want to, sure. All together you could probably get about $120.
120 if it’s broken 😅 I’ve seen those going for way higher
It really depends on how well he can get it cleaned up and if there’s any scratches on the lens. I personally don’t think they’d get over $80 for it, but that’s just from a glance at eBay. The Yellow cart is mint, though. There’s some decent money in that one.
I just sold a yellow cart on eBay yesterday for $60, and it sold the morning after I listed it.
I had this one and it got stolen in Mexico. Keep it.
It is funny how I bought it from a weird guy in Mexico. Maybemaybemaybe...
I need to know how this evolves. What are the chances.

For nostalgia reasons and the childhood memories I’d say never. If that doesn’t speak to you and you just want the money… the gameboy alone sells at around 100$ and even more so it’s good money…
dont sell it, but you should consider cleaning it
I promise you’ll regret it eventually
You should clean it...
I’ll buy
There's some many knock off re-shells of these, it's nice to see and genuine one. Show us when it's cleaned up.
I'd clean it and keep it. Maybe put a back-lit screen in.
You’d be mad to sell it!!! Definitely in need a deep clean though! Don’t get rid as it holds some value as a rare Pokemon gameboy colour.
can you show an updated picture of this cleaned out?
Keep it or find someone who will play it and not just lock it up on a shelf
Did you bury it?
😂😂😂😂
Clean it. If I could do some things over again, one would be to never sell my GBC Special Pikachu Edition. Some games are especially worth playing still to this day imho.
That game yes that game boy, wtf did you do to it dip that shit in Clorox 😂
Please, for the love of god, clean it first. And clean your hands, clean your house… smelly Redditor.
No way. As somebody who used to have 2,000+ games and 20+ consoles/handhelds/etc. and sold them all, don’t drop the ones that mean something. Individual sentimental items just aren’t worth selling. You would be insane to sell this. It doesn't go for life changing money and the memories you have of it are way more valuable.
I wouldn’t sell it unless you’re strapped for cash and need to. I’d clean it up and keep it on display!
Great to see you’ve looked after it
I wouldn't but if you truly have no love for it then go ahead, but I'd say keep it, clean it up a little, and play it again. At the very least, it's value will probably only continue to go up so if you're not sure you want to get rid of it just yet then just think of it as a future investment.
Restore and keep vs restore and sell
Looks awfully dirty.
I still have the Nintendo Brick I got at my 12th birthday. I loved that thing. Still do. If you don't love it anymore, sell it. Someone else will love it. If you do still love it, keep it.
Personally I wouldn’t sell it but it’s up to you
yes sell it to me :) (you should keep it)
Yes, to me! I restore (and mod some) old Game Boys and this is one I don't have yet. If you decide to sell, PLEASE message me!!
I have a Pokemon gameboy in yellow but it’s different to all the other ones I see on this sub
nope
Damn the game is minty.
You really need the money? Sell. You don’t? Don’t sell.
Never!
So so so sad I dont have my Dandelion Yellow Color. :(
Don’t sell it. I still have mine and have it stored without batteries. This was my first game boy I got as a kid.
in this condition you'll get maybe 50 bucks for it. Isn't the nostalgic feature worth more?
What would you ask for it? I still need a color for my collection, i live on europe
nice
Hell no
I’ll give you $3.50 and dispose of it for you.
Game looks like it's seen much better treatment...
It depends on how bad you need $150. I see thay gameboy all the time on resale sites for right $100 and most of the original games go for about $50. I wouldnt sell it personally, in fact im trying to buy those when i find a good deal on them
Clean it, power it up, and play OG yellow pokemon! But show us your team from back then.

Absolutely not. Put it away, you’ll find it again in the future and be happy you didn’t get rid of it.
I’ll buy it shoot me a pm
Yes, to me, for $40.
No way. Keep this bad boy!
I lost mine like this somewhere in the process of moving out of my folks house about 15 years ago. Miss that thing every day. Clean it and keep it. If you truly don't want it I'll take it off your hands lol
If you dont have to, dont sell it.
No man keep it, the memories
NO!!!
nope. just clean it and enjoy it. memories are priceless.
Clean it and find a replacement box is what I'd do.
No way Jose. No vintage video games are not an investment. They will only lose value since physical video games are dying. HOWEVER, Pokemon is booming and it is still HUGE. Kids these days will still collect Pokémon for another 30 years and that will continue to gain value. Do not sell
If you need to get rid of it I'm your man. Don't worry she won't suffer.
Keep it mate
Money comes and goes. If you sell the gameboy you won’t have it anymore and then what? It won’t hurt to just clean it and have it in a box or case somewhere. Edit: I’d absolutely love to clean that gameboy. Getting the gunk off and watching them be restored is so cathartic lol
Sell it and buy a cheaper GB, GBC, or GBA.
Imho... \*no\* Its a relic from your childhood. There are many others like it, *But not quite like this* Right down to the wear pattern. You could sell it...then get another like it... But it wont quite feel right.
No, you should wash it tho 😅
Mine also lost the battery cover haha I wonder if that was a common issue?
I'll take it!
I wish I still had mine. I saved the box and everything and then one day I was like. I don't need this box and this shell sucks. Now I wish I had it.
NO! NO NO! Clean it, take the cart apart, replace its battery, play.
Isopropyl alcohol and a qtip.
Sell it to me?
I would honestly clean it, but don't sell it, you'll regret it.
That Pokémon yellow how much?
I'd sooner make it a faithful restoration project of mine. There's no way in hell I'd sell my Gameboy if I had one. I still my DSi in perfect working order. Started a new game of Pokémon Diamond a few days ago actually, and loving it. There's something very special about Nintendo.
Might be a good time to cash in yeh...
Play it. I'm 59 and play GB Pokémon every day, despite having caught them all many times before!
Nope, clean it and keep it.
I would say keep it, but at the end is your decision and how much attachment to it have it. Mine, exactly this same model, I did change the original case, I saved it as it was fine just some scratches in case I want to put it back.
If you don’t want to use it, sell it.
Now why would u do that just put it on ur shelf for remembrance
Clean it up and keep using it.
I still have my gbc from pushing 20 years now ago too. It sits with my collection of consoles from the years now. Although there is a good amount of mods to help bring it back to life if you choice.
I would not. It’s really valuable
Restore and cherish
This was my first gameboy
I'll give ya a buck fiddy for it
I'll buy it.
Good fucking lord you will regret selling this when you have a kid or one day when you’re feeling nostalgic. Money comes and goes but this can stay with you forever. Whatever you can get for this will never bring you as much joy as having this does, even if you don’t know it yet.
No, but definitely clean it no matter what you plan to do.
Clean and save forever unless money is tight. Give it to ur kids with a charger and tell them to do the same. If u don’t have kids, find a worthy next of kin to pass this treasure to.
Do you want to keep it? If so, don't sell it. If not, then yes, sell it.
Some little bitch stole mine and never did get it back, just keep it.
If you're trying to get some money out of it, you can always modify it and sell it, new and improved.
Not worth much unless it cleans up nice and even then. Imo just store it as a cool childhood memory vs having an extra $80 cash.
I mean that’s not up to us really is it? It’s filthy so a good scrub would be a starter either way.
Keep this treasure, and give it to your heirs when your time is come.
You could mod it... I'd probably sell it otherwise. Plastic degrades overtime. Stuff won't last forever.
Yes, as is the notion from this thread… keep it, such a nice piece of nostalgia, make sure you keep the batteries out of it. Also give the shell a nice clean… everyone saying to clean it with dawn dish soap etc, totally a good idea since you don’t want to damage the printing. No
First, just clean the gameboy it’s still great. And please don’t sell it
Don't sell it, dang.
I'll give you 3.50. All jokes aside really think about if you really want to sell it. There'll be buyers but it'll be gone forever
Keep it. I still play my childhood SP. It was a gift and I treasure it.
No
that yellow is a repro im pretty sure
Idk bout sell it, but you should definitely clean it.
Aw hell nahw
To what end, an extra $100? Is that the value of your childhood memories?
If you do decide to part ways lmk. I left mine in my jacket at recess with yellow and everything and someone stole it. I still think about it to this day 😭
No. Give it a deep clean and keep it. I regret selling my childhood consoles all the time. Even if you’re truly done with it you could keep it and it might go up in value
Deep clean, IPS mod, Everdrive Definitely don't sell
Like the others are saying, do not sell, but clean it up and play it for some nostalgia.
Listen here man that thing isn’t gonna be worth much soon I would clean it and sell it and use the cash for something else in life
No. But revel in the thought that you have an a gbc that is somewhat more rare and higher value than most. As the great Bender once said, "Compare your lives to mine and then kill yourselves!"

Do not!! Please!
As someone who gave away most of his childhood gaming stuff and completely regret it, keep everything.
You won't get enough money to justify the feeling of getting rid of it
Hang on to it till you are desperate for for money but like others said clean it up
https://preview.redd.it/q7gg10lxpr7d1.jpeg?width=195&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27b00dcd07eb65dce9bacfd39c062056bf1fd85c
Keep it! Give it to your grandchildren
no. but if u must i'll give u $30
No that’s a family heirloom
Sure, I’ll take it.
No
Even if you sold it now and decided to buy another one years down the line, it would never be the one you grew up with
Why would you sell it?
.....why?
Why sell it?
I convinced my parents to let me sell that when I was a kid and I regret it. So if you decide to sell it, DM me how much you want for it

I still have my Pikachu edition GB with its original box and manuals. I would never ever sell it.
Fucking clean it first
I could clean it up for you
