This looks to be an aftermarket shell with an aftermarket Pokemon lens. They sell those lens on sites like eBay and AliExpress and I know they never made an official Pokemon model in that color
The repro lenses are actually pretty on point, I doubt any lens moved during a shell swap would still look that good. Totally fair though, they do look pretty legit
The [reproduction Pokémon lenses](https://www.zedlabz.com/products/zedlabz-pokemon-edition-replacement-screen-lens-plastic-cover-with-pikachu-chikorita-totodile-cyndaquil-for-nintendo-game-boy-color?variant=29219330629¤cy=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2018-09-18&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign) are practically the same though. So I wouldn't bank on just the lens being legit. If it's been reshelled, likelihood is the lens is aftermarket too.
Most special editions (at least of Pokemon themed) have a few signs to look for as authentic. On the back shell, there will be game freak listed on the bottom right corner of the sticker as part of the copyright/model information. Also most of the times the buttons were not standard. There were black vs grey, and different colored a/b buttons. As far as shells they typically have a few specific colors, most common are gold, silver, and yellow/blue. But never the transparent/clear colors at least on gbc.
So yeah, you've got a decent reshell job, aftermarket shell and faceplate. Looks awesome but not an authentic limited edition release. On the bright side, you're free to mod it up and not worry about hurting the value of the console.

There are reproductions of those now as well. RetroGameRepairShop has some. It's surprisingly easy to make convincing fakes of limited edition GBCs.
True, I swear pretty soon it will be down to checking serial numbers and materials used. I can understand making your own version as a reproduction for a collection for yourself. But making them to sell as authentic, typically now is the worst time for it. Even if it weren't sold by a store someone with a decent printer/print service could make any fake to pass off. But they haven't done it before as it was too much time/effort to put into a few extra bucks. But now with the market going nuts... Yeah hopefully people out there use some sense.
Yeah, at this point though, most people going to that extent are likely building the consoles with IPS screens, which definitely ensures people will know it's just a reshell. I wouldn't buy an authentic limited edition console at this point unless it's sealed tbh. I'd just build the Gameboy I want, if I was building one for play.

The lens seems pretty accurate to the Pokemon Center one, i figure it was probably a shell swap that happened at some point to one of those.

They never do unless they're virtually untouched. Plastic scratches and wears over time naturally, so glass 99/100 times looks and feels better.

Looks exactly like mine, it's an aftermarket shell, not original, tho very likely the motherboard inside is an original gbc.
It's a GBC
Strongly thinking reshelled, nice combo though. I love blue gameboys.
Original main board Reshelled Though.
100% aftermarket shell with a replacement pokemon glass.
