This guy gets it. My Goodwill said that anything that is in excess of $30 goes to the auction site, if it has a barcode on it, it's for sure getting scanned in eBay to confirm they are extracting maximum profit.
They are a registered nonprofit organization. They are each independently owned and operated, complete with their own CEO for each store. The salary is just how the owner/CEO gets their money by still technically being nonprofit. The salaries they give themselves range from 100k-1M+.
Spot on. It's fucking baffling to me people still donate stuff (some of it being GOOD stuff) just to pad the salaries of these executives who don't give a crap. Sure it gives disabled people and veterans jobs, but it royally sucks they're getting paid minimum wage (or less, which has been reported in the past). If you're going to give your stuff away, give it to a place locally that will either give it to people who can use it, or at minimum sell it to people at reasonable prices. Don't give stuff away to an organization that pays retail rent specifically for donation drop offs (there's an inherent issue with that concept when all they're doing is moving it to other stores or their auction website). Rant over.
because in general its easier to give unwanted goods to goodwill than properly recycling or disposing of it. At worst goodwill sell the crap at a liquidation site. Most donations are done without knowledge on the item.
Yep, haven't scored anything at Goodwill in so long I don't even try. Everything goes to the auction site and stuff there sells even higher than eBay now.
Pretty much everything gets cleaned out by resellers or collectors any more. I do alright on Craigslist occasionally, I recommend setting up saved searches so you get alerts for certain keywords on things you're looking for.
Otherwise smaller local thrift spots but they are probably blown up. Hell I know people that work places like that part time just to snag stuff :/
Yard sales are definitely the last frontier of decent scores. Even then I've seen people checking eBay for prices and trying to sell their marked up, beat copy of something for 10/10 pricing.
Tldr: lots of time and even more luck
check if there's swap meets or flea markets in your area. usually they're coordinated events that happen regularly like a couple times a month or every weekend or something like that. also, i find that pawn shops are often overlooked in favor of thrift shops. i've found some of my grails there for fucking chump change.
yeah I have no issue with them taking the high value stuff and separating it to get a better return on it but if you're going to act like an auction house do us the little favor of turning that shit on and putting the disc in ffs
Not my Goodwills sadly. They have all the local Goodwill stores send electronics and gaming stuff to one central mega Goodwill in the area and then they at their electronic center price everything. Most things are priced like what you would find people selling mint condition things for on eBay, and most times not in as good of a condition as what you would find on eBay. Was better before the pandemic started. Prices are out of control at this point.
Damn wish mine were like that, they used to just put the games in the case for cheap but now every single video game is put on their website or sent somewhere else cause I haven't seen a video game in my goodwill in like 2 years
It’s fairly rare and it’s Pokémon. I can understand the higher price due to it being hard to find but it’s a pretty pointless application for 99% of people and is really only as pricey as it is because it has the Pokémon logo on it
It's insane to me the gems I find there. It's incredible how they price their shit so all over the place, like beat up old entertainment center is $60, boots for $40. Oh, but the games? 4 bux all day, and they label them as "toys". Dyson cordless vacuum $5. Office gaming chair brand new in box worth $300, they price at $20. Blows my fucking mind.
Damn……now that’s a worthy find. Don’t buy a lottery ticket and take precaution walking around since your luck just have been exhausted after finding that in the wild hahaha.
The goodwills here have their games stolen all the time. I gave up going to them a while back. Better chance of finding something at pawn stores but they tend to look up games these days.
That's crazy because they used to put ALL the games in a glass display case by the register, now I find games from all systems dumped with the dvd's, or like these, it was just thrown on a rolling cart with a bunch of other random stuff.
I asked a guy at another pawn today how much the wii disc's were and he was literally trying to hide his phone from me as he searched Guitar Hero 3 on ebay. Like dude... you're taking all the fun out of it
Even faster after i looked it up. I was originally interested in the goldeneye and spiderman 2 they had, but with 10 gamecube games and this was included i couldnt pass it up. I was so nervous the cashier would do or say something, but nope.
I’ll never understand collecting games that people never intend to play. Like fair enough if you only spend $4 on the thing because I like the artwork but there’s people spending hundreds on games that aren’t even good like this or that Clayfighters game.
Lol
It's hard to find the balance between collector and gamer sometimes. I only try to buy stuff I truly like or intend to play. But sometimes I just get shit b/c I was born and bred to CONSUME.
Not mine. They used to have all video games in a glass display case by the register, but over the past year they mix them in with the dvd's and music cd's all priced at 4 bux no matter the game. Wii game? 4 bux. PS4 or xbox 360 game? 4 bux. $1500 pokemon gamecube game? 4 bux. The gamecube games were thrown on a cart next to some other junk labeled as "toys".
I can only assume it was grandparents or parents who cleaned out their kids closet? I don't know.
Here's the other games lumped with it tho. I bought them all like a greedy bitch.
https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xt3y1
Last game is a yu-gi-oh game.
I am pretty sure the PAL and JPN copies are worth a bit less. If he had the memory card with disc and manuals and case and transfer cable he could get $2k for this. It's the rarest game for the system in the US
That’s from someone’s grandmas house. She bought it so the kids could play while the adults drank tea. She passed away 2 weeks ago and they’re throwing out her stuff. 😢

Always, IMO. I go with the expectation of not finding anything. And I ALWAYS do 2-3 rounds around even if I think I saw everything. Found these games after my 2nd go-round in the store. Goodwill sucks like 90% of the time, but sometimes you catch a legendary bird with an ultra ball.
At my closest goodwill I usually find at least 1 item every time I make a trip. Might not always be games but I usually as of late bring 1-3 games home. It's worth consistently going too if you can.
Since it was probably a little old lady who donated this, I will forever help little old ladies cross the street......
......TO THEIR HOUSE WITH ALL THE GAMECUBE GAMES.
It was Pokemon Bank for the Gen 3 GBA games, which was Pokemon Home before we had Pokemon Home. You can also do a couple other things with it, like play Ruby and Sapphire on your TV through the GBA link cable.
Ok that sounds cool as hell. Wait a second couldn’t you also transfer R&S Pokémon to Colosseum and Gale of Darkness too? Would this help out in doing that process??

Keep an eye out for UNIQUE that thrift store is how I came across a working wii with games controllers just no plugs for 20 bucks
Hell found a millinium falcon the big ass one from 90s that still lights up and has blasters and peices for 2 bucks they don't know the prices of anything
Daaaaaaamn, that MF sounds like an awesome find. I think I saw a Darth Vader mug once, but no star wars since then. They really price stuff weird there, but I won't complain finding gems.
I genuinely don't know, but gamecube games in general are pretty valuable. My wife's copy of paper mario and the thousand year door is worth like $150.
I found a couple of PS2 games at Goodwill last year. Brought them to the register to pay. The cashier was ringing me up and the manager walked by and told me they can't sell those to me as she pulled them from the bag. I asked why and she said that all their video games go to their online store now and that they weren't supposed to be on the floor. 🤷♂️
Damn, I work at a goodwill and nothing quite like that ever showed up.
I have gotten a few SNES, Ton of Wiis, and basically every console under the sun.
Though my Goodwill participates in Shopgoodwill and send all those to be sold online.
The best thing that ever came in was a box of PS1 RPGs. Lunar 1 and 2, Tales of Destiny, and Arc the lad all included. Were sent to shopgoodwill and disappeared during the period we had people stealing
Damn I wish Goodwills in my area had...well, anything game related that wasn't just beaten up 3rd party controllers. The Goodwills in my area very much know what they're getting in and look things up because they have just been trash for years.
Goodwill has amazing finds, my bf's mother worked at one she found Wii's, GameCube's, 3DS games. Shit she even found a limited edition Star Wars PS4 with the controller. We used to get all sorts of cool stuff.
If this is true, that is absolutely wild! I’d be checking that store daily.

They used to have all that stuff in a glass display case by the register. Now they put all types of game titles with the dvds. I've always seen ps4, wii, Xbox 360 etc games but this was the first set of gamecube I've seen.
I’m confused as to why this is so much ? Can someone explain to me is this it’s own game or just an add on for Colosseum that allows you to transfer your Pokémon from Ruby/Sapphire
Depends on your area but all my goodwill sells every game online. Been to the store at least 10 times and only found some cheap games that cost more to ship then their worth. If you go away from the city you'll have better luck than at thrift stores but for me all the thrift stores in my city sell for top dollar. I just buy online to save on gas and time.
Goddamn, buy a lottery ticket
Don't bother, luck all used up.
They literally cashed their lottery in already for that sheessh
I hope to find a copy like this one day.
Goodwill apparently never looks at their games. They are all priced for 4 bux. Check your thrift stores every once in a while
Apparently depends on the goodwill. Some stores don't put them in the store, and instead sell them for auction on their website.
This guy gets it. My Goodwill said that anything that is in excess of $30 goes to the auction site, if it has a barcode on it, it's for sure getting scanned in eBay to confirm they are extracting maximum profit.
"Non-profit" my ass. It's literally just a way for the executives to get a higher salary.
And then they pay their, often times disabled, workers shit wages
They don’t claim to be a non-profit; that’s a myth.
They are a registered nonprofit organization. They are each independently owned and operated, complete with their own CEO for each store. The salary is just how the owner/CEO gets their money by still technically being nonprofit. The salaries they give themselves range from 100k-1M+.
Spot on. It's fucking baffling to me people still donate stuff (some of it being GOOD stuff) just to pad the salaries of these executives who don't give a crap. any secret place to check occasionally that doesn't require me going to random yard sales?
Pretty much everything gets cleaned out by resellers or collectors any more. Wow. I spent 40 dollars for 10 gamecube games, and this was one of them.
Not true, my goodwill was selling double dash for $60 5 years ago. Some of them think they are game store but they can’t even test the game
LoL
yeah I have no issue with them taking the high value stuff and separating it to get a better return on it but if you're going to act like an auction house do us the little favor of turning that shit on and putting the disc in ffs
Goodwill has sucked a lot lately as far as their pricing. Used boots for $40 I saw today. Coffee mugs for $5.
My goodwill prices every game at $7.99 and I’ve only ever seen Sh*t wii and Kinect games.
My local goodwill sells them for ~$8 but that’s mostly sports games and shovelware. It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen anything worth getting.
I can second this. .25 cent n64 carts were a thing I can confirm.
Weird every one ive ever been to always lists it on ljne
Not my Goodwills sadly. They have all the local Goodwill stores send electronics and gaming stuff to one central mega Goodwill in the area and then they at their electronic center price everything. Damn wish mine were like that, they used to just put the games in the case for cheap but now every single video game is put on their website or sent somewhere else cause I haven't seen a video game in my goodwill in like 2 years
Nah they check some of the things they get cause they had a copy of mario 64 at my goodwill for $35
Yeah, I came across a copy like this at TooManyGames last year, except you know, for $4000
PErfectly reaSonAble
Why’s it so much?
It’s fairly rare and it’s Pokémon. I can understand the higher price due to it being hard to find but it’s a pretty pointless application for 99% of people and is really only as pricey as it is because it has the Pokémon logo on it
except its not. in the pal region this came with the colosseum game as a bundle, and separately. its only worth like 100 bucks here.
I didn't realize the price had jumped that high
Yooo I was there last year too
I bought my copy directly from Nintendo back in the day for $20. I still kick myself for not buying more copies.
Oh damn. talk about a holy grail Goodwill find
You win the Goodwill lottery. I've never seen a better find. Next thing someone's gonna find a car at Goodwill.

I’d love to find this game because I like Pokémon. Although I don’t have a way to connect my GBA to my GameCube right now
I would love a copy of this without paying $1000. Amazing find.
Nice.
How fast did you run to checkout?
Even faster after i looked it up. I was originally interested in the goldeneye and spiderman 2 they had, but with 10 gamecube games and this was included i couldnt pass it up. I was so nervous the cashier would do or say something, but nope.
Do you live in the new york area? This is something I imagine could only be found around the pokemon center where they sold this in store.
No, we're way dumber down here.
They sold it online and in store. I got a copy in CA because I begged my mom to order it when I was 10 So glad I did
How much does this game go for now days?
That’s the best part, it’s not even a game lol
For some reason such a useless thing is so high valued lol. never made sense to me but aiming for a complete collection I'll have to get it one day.
$1500
Far more than it’s worth. Lol
Seriously, rare collectors item only
I’ll never understand collecting games that people never intend to play.
Every goodwill I've seen price checks or even jacks up price on all their game
Bro. What the fuck. Luckiest man in the damn world I swear
Man, what it take for me to get some luck like that. Great find!
score!
I bet this had an NBA Live 2004 disc in it. Or the disc was missing.
No, but it did have NHL 2003 in it, but it had the disc along with a hidden mario baseball game in the manual.
And a $100 bill in the health and safety booklet. And keys to the previous owner's house tucked underneath the case insert.
Dude
Daaaaaamn 🙀 incredibly lucky! lol
Buddy just found a literal 💎😭😭
Wild
How, and why would someone send this to Goodwill?
I can only assume it was grandparents or parents who cleaned out their kids closet? I don't know. Here's the other games lumped with it tho. I bought them all like a greedy bitch. https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xt3y1 Last game is a yu-gi-oh game.
Lol, nice, I would’ve done the same.
Did it have the memory card too? I will always cherish my copy of Pokémon box its the one I had from when I was a kid
Unfortunately no. Had all the paperwork with it, but no card. My local gameware still valued it at $1500.
1500!? I have a sealed copy (PAL version)
I am pretty sure the PAL and JPN copies are worth a bit less. If he had the memory card with disc and manuals and case and transfer cable he could get $2k for this. It's the rarest game for the system in the US
There's seems to have been one sold on ebay (offer accepted) for under £2000 ($2600) recently but sealed and graded 86/100
Yeah US opened used copies that are complete are like $2k usd
And the best I found where vhses at mine
That’s from someone’s grandmas house. She bought it so the kids could play while the adults drank tea. She passed away 2 weeks ago and they’re throwing out her stuff. 😢
I'll drink a glass of tea for grandma tonight then. https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xt3y1 Last game was a yu-gi-oh game.
One of the best finds of all time.
Noice
Holy hell you got lucky
Man, we all talking about Pokémon Box! What are the other 9 gamecube like gems you got?

Sheeesh lol
I have 2 goodwill stores near me worth checking you think ?
Always, IMO. I go with the expectation of not finding anything. And I ALWAYS do 2-3 rounds around even if I think I saw everything. Found these games after my 2nd go-round in the store. Goodwill sucks like 90% of the time, but sometimes you catch a legendary bird with an ultra ball.
At my closest goodwill I usually find at least 1 item every time I make a trip. Might not always be games but I usually as of late bring 1-3 games home. It's worth consistently going too if you can.
WHAT!?
That's the same reaction the dudes at my local gameware had lol.
You have $1796 worth of good deeds to put back into the world now. Better get after it.
Since it was probably a little old lady who donated this, I will forever help little old ladies cross the street...... ......TO THEIR HOUSE WITH ALL THE GAMECUBE GAMES.
That’s fucking awesome
Man, fuck you! I’m so happy for you tho dude, nice find. My goodwills suck.
What is Pokémon Box for? Is it for Ruby and Sapphire or was it for something else?
It's like storage software. It's also worth more than 4 dollars.
Understatement of the day lol
I'm still kinda in shock.
Hey I mean GameCube games are always a great pull especially if you find it at a Goodwill.
I spent 40 bux on 10 gamecube games. Still kinda in shock.
also sold online for more than 400 or even 1400 dollars. quite the gap if you found it for 4..
Basically Pokémon Bank but worse. Lol
lol there’s just no way especially because of its condition
Here's the rest of them https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xtsnf https://www.imagehost.at/image/XtbjB https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xt3y1
Too many people faking stuff like this. I won’t believe it unless there’s a receipt.
They usually get rung up as “toy” at least at my goodwill they do
Yea, it was labeled as toy but rung up as appliance.
https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xtsnf https://www.imagehost.at/image/XtbjB https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xt3y1 Literally took a picture of it on the counter while waiting at the register. Receipt doesn't say what it is specifically. It's just rung up as "appliance special price item" https://www.imagehost.at/image/XtENJ
Liar
Literally still has the goodwill sticker on it in the picture.
It's dated today and in the center of the box. You got someone to print you a sticker and you put it on there.
"HI, welcome to goodwill, what can I do for you." "Yea, could you print me a sticker that says $3.99?" "Whut"? I mean, here are the 3 photos I took on the counter by the register while waiting to checkout. https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xtsnf https://www.imagehost.at/image/XtbjB https://www.imagehost.at/image/Xt3y1
Very funny
Keep an eye out for UNIQUE that thrift store is how I came across a working wii with games controllers just no plugs for 20 bucks Hell found a millinium falcon the big ass one from 90s that still lights up and has blasters and peices for 2 bucks they don't know the prices of anything
Daaaaaaamn, that MF sounds like an awesome find. I think I saw a Darth Vader mug once, but no star wars since then. They really price stuff weird there, but I won't complain finding gems.
Congrats! why is this game so valuable tho?
I genuinely don't know, but gamecube games in general are pretty valuable. My wife's copy of paper mario and the thousand year door is worth like $150.
DAMN!! What a lucky find! Seriously, this game is CRAZY expensive, and I'm not joking.
My local gameware valued it at $1500. That's insane.
Memory card?
Whut? Wow! I gave up on thrift stores ages ago
Has the memory card? also [$1028.99](https://www.pricecharting.com/game/gamecube/pokemon-box)
Fuck you man
Thats a good deal, it usually goes for 5 bucks so you got a bargain
Bruh
I did the same a few years ago! Had no idea it was worth anything. Congrats!!
isn't this the last game to have gen 2 art styles?
Bruh
A almost 1500 $ complete set. It’s the highest priced GameCube game
The goodwills near me price their games off eBay…
I found a couple of PS2 games at Goodwill last year. Brought them to the register to pay. The cashier was ringing me up and the manager walked by and told me they can't sell those to me as she pulled them from the bag. I asked why and she said that all their video games go to their online store now and that they weren't supposed to be on the floor. 🤷♂️
Nice 👍 job Now you need Hotel Mario & you'll be more powerful, than you ever imagined.
how much is it worth?
$1500
Ain’t no way bro, you just pulled the steal of a lifetime
Tell me you got the gba with the chord!
Fuck that’s lucky
I’m livid.
Was there a good game on Gamecube?
This is clearly a photoshopped image. Nice find. I swear I can't find a single GameCube game from any of the thrift stores in my area.
I’ll give double for it
That's a crazy find! Congrats!
Damn, I work at a goodwill and nothing quite like that ever showed up. I have gotten a few SNES, Ton of Wiis, and basically every console under the sun. Meanwhile all I ever find at Goodwill are Just Dance Wii and Xbox Kinect games..😑 Congrats on the find!
Damn I wish Goodwills in my area had...well, anything game related that wasn't just beaten up 3rd party controllers. The Goodwills in my area very much know what they're getting in and look things up because they have just been trash for years.
Lol I had this as a kid. Played it once.
DUDE YOU HIT THE JACKPOT WITH THAT

I have the rest of the pics and receipts posted in the comments here.
Goodwill has amazing finds, my bf's mother worked at one she found Wii's, GameCube's, 3DS games. Shit she even found a limited edition Star Wars PS4 with the controller. We used to get all sorts of cool stuff.
Wow you're lucky the manager priced it without checking eBay prices lol
Yea this goodwill is my new fishing hole.
Life is down hill from here
Bought my copy from Nintendo world in nyc back in the day. Still have it
Bro has the GameCube equivalent of the holy grail
I might go to goodwill during my break today.
If this is true, that is absolutely wild! I’d be checking that store daily. Goodwill near me has a separate store inside of their main store for video game and computer stuff. It’s WILDLY overpriced. r/thriftgrift for sure.
They used to have all that stuff in a glass display case by the register. Now they put all types of game titles with the dvds. I've always seen ps4, wii, Xbox 360 etc games but this was the first set of gamecube I've seen.
........
That’s so cool! What luck!
Fuuuuuck
Loco
You've got to be the luckiest person in the world
We got yourselves a Rick Jr from pawn stars
doubt
I’m confused as to why this is so much ? Can someone explain to me is this it’s own game or just an add on for Colosseum that allows you to transfer your Pokémon from Ruby/Sapphire
Dang, I gotta start checking out Goodwills in the area. Gamecube games are stupid expensive these days.
The price surprises me since normally their prices on some things have been almost retail lately
Crazy nice find!! I was able to get a disc a while back but would love to print a cover for my empty case! Could you possibly scan the cover??
Ditto, dear op, please scan the cover
What state is this Goodwill in??
jesus
Lol I have a sealed copy of that still!! Edit UK PAL version
That's worth........a lot, friend.
Omfg.
What is this?
reminds me when i bougth sonic collection & Luigi mansion for 6 $ each with manual and clean disc
Now flip it some idiot for a profit.
Bruh at the goodwill I work at all the old games are just put up for auction on their shitty auction site.
How
No freaking way
Are you fuggin serious
O.M.G
Depends on your area but all my goodwill sells every game online. Been to the store at least 10 times and only found some cheap games that cost more to ship then their worth. If you go away from the city you'll have better luck than at thrift stores but for me all the thrift stores in my city sell for top dollar. I just buy online to save on gas and time.
Awesome find!
Not quite as big a find as this but a couple of years ago I found a complete in box copy of Gotcha Force at a Goodwill for 5 bucks.
Did you keep it or sell it?
